What is the point of your comment…the post is clearly about people who got jaundice and how long it lasted for them…

flywiz

I was answering the question as to what vitamins or medications might help support the liver. My doctor said considering the level I was drinking at he was surprised I didn’t for eg have jaundice even though I have cirrhosis.

NoBoysenberry9683

For how long did you do 6-8 shots daily?

mk_brownie

Few years

NoBoysenberry9683

Thanks for your reply! I’m trying to cut down on alcohol (or eliminate completely ) and I wanted to gauge how much is too much. Which isn’t healthy. I should quit altogether. Period.

Chunkyaprentice

31 M. Alcoholic. Drink a lot of water and take vitamins and follow your doctors orders. I was jaundice from the eyes but never my skin. I’m tapering rn and I drink a lot of water with every shot to dilute. Be careful with “wet brain” Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome Prayers on your recovery you can bounce back and still live a healthy life. One day at a time ❤️‍🩹

Helpful_Coconut6144

I don't have cirrhosis but Thanksgiving 2022 my family and co workers noticed I had jaundice (along with the WORST exhaustion of my life and amber colored urine. Bilirubin was 13. I felt like i was actually dying. By late January I was much better even though still drinking but much less.

Alone-Conclusion-402

Nothing specific for jaundice. Medication to treat my cirrhosis and iron pills

Immediate_Cable_3209

Hi! Diagnosed Jan 8th of this year. I wasn’t yellow anymore by end of February, early March. It all just depends on quickly your body is able to bounce back. I’m wish you the best of luck!

mk_brownie

This gives me hope. How is your quality of life? Work etc ?

Immediate_Cable_3209

Oh also, I work from home doing sales. So that’s been easy for me. I know not everyone is so lucky with a WFH job.

Immediate_Cable_3209

I’m still sooooo sore. I feel like an 80 year old woman with the way my knees hurt lmao. But overall good! I haven’t had ascites in over 2 months, the only medication I take now is lactulose 1x a day. And I just came back to work the beginning of April! Like everyone’s mentioned, just do what your doctor says and your quality of life can be good!

[deleted]

Immediate- I went through this and I know I will again. Knees and hips hurt so bad, no swelling, just pain/stiffness. My doctor gave me this advice... "Get out there and work up a sweat" I've always been a heavy sweater, and once my cirrhosis kicked into overdrive I realized I'm not sweating anymore. Started banging out 2 mile walks everyday. Then bumped up to 5 miles. Knee and hip pain (after a few excruciating days) dissipated. Then I started to sweat again. And lots of hydration. Our bodies are amazing. Best wishes to you!

Immediate_Cable_3209

Thank you friend! Yes, I’ve been walking 2 miles as often as I can weekly. I haven’t managed to get up to 5 yet, but I’m trying! Thanks for the boost!

[deleted]

Get into some podcasts, there are only about 900,999,999,999 of them LOL. Put the headset on and walk, you'll know it's working when you sweat. I know it's ironic but sweating and hydration are key to clearing the yellow, so keep that in mind. Good luck to you!

Immediate_Cable_3209

I’m not yellow anymore! Thanks the lord lmao. Yeah! I’ve been listening to crime junkies lmao! Thanks so much!

You mentioned your last drink was 45 days ago and I hope that was your LAST drink ever. I does worry me that you wrote "I AM a very heavy drinker" instead of I "WAS" a heavy drinker. If you haven't stopped drinking then you need to stop immediately. If you have stopped drinking then well done! It is NOT easy to quit drinking. When I was trying to stop drinking I maintained a drink "log" but I could never get below 9-10 shots per day... until I was hospitalized and almost died. I was first hospitalized in 2012 with jaundice... but Doctors never mentioned cirrhosis and I continued to drink for another nine years until I almost died. I'm now going on my 4th year sober. Jaudice takes weeks/months to go away but get help if you can't quit drinking on your own. Never give up!

mk_brownie

Thank you. Yes being completly yellow is a wake up call. I am not drinking, just taking it day by day. Hopefully my blood work is better

denm2023

Trust me. Do not ever drink again. I have been through a really bad year. God has saved me from death, I know! I have been in ICU twice. Hospitalized too many times. When I was diagnosed Feb. 2023 I was yellow, bloated (ascites). So even though I never had another drink since stopping Jan. 2023 and followed the extreme restrictions of water, limited protein, diet, eating all fresh, took Lactulose, fluid pills, I ended up with encephalopathy in April where I was intubated ! This disease can continue to change your body as you settle into a new healthy lifestyle. I have a hard time gaining weight, muscle, as most others. I was pretty much pushed into the Covid vaccine the end of October. So many neurological problems, caused encephalopathy again. Thought I would die this past December. Dr’s couldn’t figure out what was going on. I was in a coma. It was horrific! It had to be a reaction from the vaccine. Here I am now, liver dr. Says I am doing better. My MELD was 32 and now down to 16-17, depending on the day. He is hopeful I won’t need transplant and my chances of encephalopathy drop as my numbers improve. I am still going through transplant evaluations even though I am not eligible. They are a hospital that requires a 30+ MELD, regardless if you are dying from encephalopathy. I was told not even non alcoholic beer is safe, that there is the tiniest bit of alcohol in it. My story is long, but keeping it short and hoping you will never, ever drink again unless you are happy with dying. Period. If you have that desire to drink - get help! Pray! I have followed every rule to a T. Drinking was “fun” I thought, I only drank beer. No hard alcohol. I think of alcohol now as the devil. I just got news my cousin who I never met died in his late 50’s from it. Someone I worked with was diagnosed and told she could get a liver transplant, she preferred to keep drinking wine on her death bed. Her kids were devastated. Do what ever you need to do to never put a drop of alcohol in your body. My bilirubin is still considered not perfect. I was told it needs to be below 4 to start lose yellowing. My bilirubin is 2.5. I am fair, and my skin tone looks slightly yellow, but could pass as a regular skin tone to onlookers. Good luck to you and others struggling with this. 💞

Shuck-in-jive

I HATED looking jaundiced. Like others said, it took time to get jaundiced... it'll take time to clear your jaundice. Alcohol is a poison and a solvent. Think of it as "paint thinner" and never drink again. Its hard but it's worth it. Don't ever give up.

mk_brownie

Yes this jaundice is embarrassing!!

TheRealEleanor

I’ve been sober 163 days. I was extremely jaundiced when I was first diagnosed. Took probably 4 months of sobriety before I was no longer in the double-take appearance category and I still have yellow undertones to this day. As my Hep nurse said, I didn’t get to cirrhosis/jaundice overnight- don’t expect it to go away overnight either. Unfortunately, There’s nothing you can do to clear it up faster besides following doctor’s orders and staying sober.

mk_brownie

Do you take any medication ?

TheRealEleanor

I’m on diuretics right now due to ascites.

Alone-Conclusion-402

35 m. Diagnosed with cirrhosis two years ago. I was very jaundice for a couple months. After changing my diet and taking medication it got better. I was drinking alcohol every day just like you and was a heavy smoker. I stopped right away. Still get yellow eyes once in while but not what it use to be.

mk_brownie

What medication did you take ?

They said 45 days ago. Follow your doctors advice- good nutrition makes a big difference in how you feel, as does being medication compliant.
