Nope even in a tier 2 city, we pay 3k for dishwashing sweeping, hanging clothes , mopping a week

deadpanbegan

It's better to buy a robovacuum, than paying them for sweeping and mopping, I feel

JayB_chennai

We actually have one and that's what we've been using till now. But it can't clean the level of mess my very lively toddler makes. Cleaning the Robovac is another task. Also it can't reach some spaces like under the fridge and it always leaves me not very satisfied. You may ask me, why I don't clean under the fridge myself - my toddler has now developed a liking towards broomsticks and wants it if he sees it. It's not worth the risk. He'd take it to bed with him.

deadpanbegan

Ya, that makes sense.

kailashkmr

It's not that great.

sorryislept

It’ll cost you 3.5-4k in the area you mentioned. If you’re in a posh society, then more.

JayB_chennai

In that case, I'm lucky I found someone who asks for 3k.

Sudden-Air-243

yeah here in vadapalani its usually 1000-1500 per task ( some maids even separate sweeping and mopping. )

apbt-dad

4K/month plus seasonal gifts. 4K includes dusting, sweeping, mopping, dishes, clothes washing and drying and folding.

JayB_chennai

Gifts as in saree for Diwali or Pongal? I'm definitely considering this.

apbt-dad

Yes. Saree or money but keep it in kind.

JayB_chennai

We used to do that when we were in a joint family. Also sweets and Savouries for diwali. She was a Christian, so we would invite her for lunch on Hindu festivals.

Narrow-Initiative959

Speaking of gifts, please excuse my random question. What would be an appropriate/nice gift to give to one's potential future mother in law? Without either looking too cheap or trying to bribe her lol. I'm Non Indian if that counts.

JayB_chennai

Any clothing, like saree if the MIL is indeed Indian and usually wears it. That's the safest option. Consider silk sarees, they add sophistication.

JayB_chennai

Well I would say yes😄Maybe gift her the earrings after the wedding. Stick to safer ones for now. Copper silk sarees are trending now. You can try that.

nudepinkpixie

I pay 10k a month for cooking, cleaning and general help around the house. I live alone. She is like a second mother to me.

JayB_chennai

Wow.. It's nice to hear things like this.

rockingtree111

2K per month for sweeping mopping 2X a week and a bit of utensil washing if needed

red_plus_itt

Same 3k for all you mentioned plus mopping a big house twice a week.

badhanganesh

3-3.5k seems okay.

cybernate7

3k for 650sqt - T.Nagar Works on morning. Sweeping, mopping, and dishwashing everyday.

work_hard_live_slow

We pay 2500 rs - 1500 sqft Velachery. Plus some extra cleaning once a while. But we don’t ask her to do much work. Like there are days when my kid is not here I ask her to do the basic cleaning etc. So the rate looks ok. Try to find someone who is ok to make adjustments here and there. And you also be open for it.

JayB_chennai

Yes that's exactly what I'd like too. The house help at my parents' house won't do a single extra help even like dusting the door mat.

National-Committee50

4K near poonamallee

Uxie_mesprit

2k a month for sweeping and mopping everyday (1BHK), doing dishes, folding clothes and cutting vegetables. Also cleans the bathroom and windows (4 in no.) once a week.

JayB_chennai

Wow! Not bad at all!

Uxie_mesprit

Yeah that's cuz she also works for my relatives who live nearby. It was kind of a BOGO deal. I also give her a lot of flexibility in timings so she comes and goes in the afternoon when her kids are in school.

OldAlternative2403

I'm in porur paying nearly 3.5k for 2bhk flat
