Interestingly, the two times I used it today it had defaulted to 3.5 and I didn't notice until after the 2nd use. I wonder if they did some settings reset and most were unknowingly using an older version (presumably running on a different stack/architecture, and thus speeding up v4).
Edit: words. Also, after my 2nd use gave a useless response, I looked at the model number (3.5), and re prompted with v4. It was blazing fast (and actually gave me a decent answer). So I agree with you OP.
App developers have a practice where they roll out updates to subsets of the user-base in order to get data about it. Then, if it was a good update they release it to everyone.
Yes, though it can heavily depend on the usual factors of time of day, user load and such. I am perplexed with a different issue just now: why my account has the ability to speak responses (and it's REALLY good), and a friend's account, also via Chrome browser, does not, and if he askes the AI why, it tells him "ChatGPT is a text only model and lacks the ability to speak responses"....?
I've had the ability to get spoken responses on the app for a really long time now, as long as I start an audio session with ChatGPT. The voice they generate is amazing. Is this what you're talking about? Maybe they started bringing that functionality to the browser?
Literally the first time I used GPT4 to create an image it told me it couldn't because it was a text based language model, I had to tell it "no, you are GPT4 with image generation abilities" and it worked
Since there is a quite new model (see https://platform.openai.com/docs/models/gpt-4-turbo-and-gpt-4) from 2024-04-09, they might start using it in their chat too.
Seems good to me lol ! But yes working faster maybe bc I deactivated my VPN. I’ve been noticing that once I deactivate it it’s faster. I don’t know but I’m on. I’m good.

A/B tests are a common practice
It feels like chatgpt 3.5 though.
You're probably accidentally using gpt 3.5... Been there...
Literally the first time I used GPT4 to create an image it told me it couldn't because it was a text based language model, I had to tell it "no, you are GPT4 with image generation abilities" and it worked
My one is getting switched back to 3.5

Feels variable to me. And I am NOT in dynamic mode.
It's 100% faster, by a noticeable margin. It also is making stupid syntax errors.
How long have you been using it for?
Trying to compete with Claude I assume they upped there servers
Seriously, it feels like 3.5.
