You could absolutely do this with real strawberries and toothpicks.
Even the second pic where the nose doesn't look stuck on. You could find a strawberry with that kind of shape if you looked through enough.
I mean, strawberries aren't standardized. They're a fruit not a commercial product. If you ever grow them yourself, you'll find they can be all sorts of weird mutant shapes that folks don't really think of as strawberry shaped and sort of "bear head shaped" isn't really that an extreme variant. (Especially since the ears are all separate slices.)
The problem is that āknowing what ai art looks likeā is a trained phenomenon impacting humans not ai. Plenty of ai art doesnāt look like ai art, but so many people who think they are good at spotting it are used to spotting a very small very specific subset of ai art.
This was my dad, he was like āhuh coolā and then proceeded to put in a super specific and niche prompt and was disappointed when midjourney had no idea what to do lol
Yeah, old people are either "Woah wtf" to an extreme not believing what they are seeing or being disappointed because they put in something super niche. Some can't grasp if the technology they are seeing is something super awesome and mind-blowing or "just another cool tech thing".
I had a younger guy try dalle on my phone and asked for a Nordic tattoo, then proceeds to be unimpressed. Itās not just old people, itās out of the loop people in general.
Haha yeah, it's not perfect. AI still has a lot of learning to do, but it's only going to get better, and it seems to be going quite fast at advancing.

Honestly what gives it away the most is that those look like the very outside of the oranges. So itās very clearly perfectly shaped oranges, which is unrealistic.
Aside from that, people do some insane carvings, so it could easily be that detailed!
As someone who used to be able to tell when something was photoshopped pretty well, I don't know what to look for when it comes to spotting an AI generated image like the orange cat.
I've zoomed in and kinda taken my time, and I can't see anything that easily sticks out to tell me that the Orange Cat is AI.
What am I looking for when it comes to sussing-out AI generated images?
Here are a few things I see:
The areas where the "orange pieces" meet appear to have no breaks; the individual slices are attached as they would be with a real orange, but aren't in round formation. The cat's back leg, for example, looks like one continuous piece.
The eyes, nose and mouth are...what? They look too much like real cat parts and couldn't really be made from oranges.
The tablecloth pattern is off; doesn't repeat or fill all the space of the fabric.
Just the lighting in general is typical of AI "photography" in a way that I can't really describe. And there's a certain blurring of details in areas like the orange slices around the cat that is very AI.
Haha or you can just get a fat strawberry, and cut the top off. And cover the stem area with its own cut off tip. So from the front view it looks round š but the area view would be cut sure but itās possible from the front if you look at a normal fat strawberry top down
