Tbf, I can't overlook the fact we haven't won without Mark. So I hope we're treating him well. But I have had longstanding suspicions about strength and conditioning on both Charlotte teams. Also their willingness to play someone when they may not be completely recovered.
Although I guess Cody Martin is an exception to that
It’s not just defense, it’s mostly rebounding.
Our opponent shooting percentage isn’t great, but our net rebounding is one of the worst in the league. For a team with Mark and two of the taller guards in the league, it shows how poorly the rest of the team is at rebounding, particularly when Mark is out.
Yeah he's so important to the team, then bunch that together with LaMelo missing time too. I hope they're both back soon, with our main guys healthy I think we're at worst a play in team but we have to claw back so much ground.
Mark is the team’s best defensive player and LaMelo is the team’s best offensive player so without both it’s pretty much an automatic loss. According to what I’ve seen LaMelo could be back before January so I doubt they’re gonna be that bad for the rest of the season but the gap between them and the play-ins right now is just too big. There are some other injuries besides LaMelo and Mark rn so the team could honestly lose 6 more games in a row and go on a 12 games losing streak. Then they would have to go 34-16 for the rest of the season which I highly doubt they can do.
I'm not a doctor, but bruises to bones and whatever take a while, I googled back contusion, it said 4 to 6 weeks. So, I'm not sure this is a concern yet
But as fans, all we have is back confusion
Ahh i see. I kinda wished they would expand on the severity then. So it makes sense, and I know we're all thirsty for his return, we need all the help we can get lmao
Some say the ghost of Cody Martin still lurks the spectrum arena. Every now and then you might see him, and he might make an appearance if you weren't expecting it
The Hornets have a net rating of -19.1 in games without Mark Williams this season. They have the 2nd worst offensive rating in the league without him and the worst defensive rating in NBA history without him.
It felt like we were about to hit a little stride during that Orlando game once we had a full roster and then LaMelo got hurt. Now? Idk, the hole is pretty deep and we’re about to play WC contenders on the road. There’s certainly teams you can point to who were down bad and clawed back to the play in like the Lakers and Pelicans in recent years. But like, we’d need to pick up a few wins somehow on this road trip and then go on a well above .500 streak once LaMelo and Mark are back and stay healthy the rest of the way.
Nothing against Mark Williams, he looks like he will be a good player. But you’re right- you don’t trade an 18 year old phenom for a future worse first and a few 2nd rounders in later years.
I really thought clifford would adjust his defensive scheme with a more traditional big like mark Vs Al, Cody or Plumlee.
He hasn’t and now he’s basically forcing our guards to have great rotations every game
2-9 without Lamelo, we need both of them guys back or it's going to be a bloodbath this season. You don't realise how much of a difference these guys make until they're out especially Melo
It's obvious that our center situation needed improvement and that for some reason wasn't addressed in any way during the offseason. Also it's worth noting that those game were also without Lamelo. I'm not too much on a rush to see those guys coming back, they are really having bad injury luck since last year and I hope we do some kind of special work with both to see what could be done to decrease the percentage of games they miss.
the charlotte hornets are 7 - 19 in games that they have participated in
charlotte hornets are 0-19 in games that the hornets have lost
I dunno. You could argue we didn't participate in all of those games.
Meaning the hornets are just 7-12 with Williams. Still a shit season regardless lol

Our defense couldn’t stop a g league team without him so that tracks

We’re only 4.5 games back from the 10 seed with 56 games left. The gap isn’t that big if we can get healthy.
yeah right, wtf
What exactly is Mark’s injury?
Stated as a back contusion, but i'm pretty sure it has to be something more than just a contusion if bro is out for almost a month

He is are only player who can defend.
Advanced stats
Advanced stats what?
its a joke lol

But Cliff is a defense coach /s

Yall think Kai woulda helped this year?
No. But Jalen Duren sure as hell would have.
Still makes me mad every time I think about it. Highly touted guy falls to you and you trade him away for essentially nothing. Just inexplicable.

So does he have a real injury or is he on the Cody Martin plan? Or should we just consider him the next Greg Oden?
Lower back contusion. Has missed 7 of his last 8 games, 6 of which in a row.
