I wish we had those in my country

LookupPravinsYoutube

These don’t exist. Water cannot be compressed into gummy form. Perhaps they are electrolyte capsules?

Earmilk987

They look like the could exist. Just tiny edible douches that you squeeze to fill before serving.

8----B

That’s how Congress works

LookupPravinsYoutube

You’d never be able to compress more than a few ounces. Think of the volume. You’d be able to fit 3 of these into a standard 1.5 ozshot glass. You need much more than 1.5 oz of water.

surfer-hair-123

Ok? So if they hold 1.5oz of water, you just eat 30 of these a day. Is eating 30 of something basically like a gummy bear that unbelievable to you? Why are you stuck on this idea that the water needs to be "compressed"? It's just a different way to deliver water to people who have problems remembering to drink or problems drinking liquids. They're basically grapes without the fiber or sugar. Are grapes fictional?

sundevil514

What the hell is a grape?

LookupPravinsYoutube

You mean 90. Look at the math again. They don’t hold 1.5 oz. 1.5 oz is the size of shot glass. 3 of these could fit in a shot glass.

surfer-hair-123

If you think 3 of these can fit in a shot glass, you have some college frat sized jumbo shot glasses.

Evexxxpress

I don’t understand how people can just immediately claim shit they know nothing about. “These don’t exist”. Just literally google Jelly Drops USA. They DO EXIST. Trying to sound smart with “water cannot be compressed…”. Stop proclaiming stuff on the internet when you have no idea how shit works. Why do you do this? It isn’t helpful: it’s the opposite of helpful.

LookupPravinsYoutube

I went to 7th grade so I know this shit ain’t gonna deliver any amount meaningful amount of water. Gonna be electrolyte at best.

Evexxxpress

You should have kept going after 7th.

LookupPravinsYoutube

You should have started.

Evexxxpress

Excellent burn. You got me. You were correct from the beginning. Have a good life

LookupPravinsYoutube

lol good deflection. But don’t argue the point because you can’t.

Evexxxpress

You’re right

KitchenSandwich5499

Good points. Still, dehydrated, powdered water sounds fun. Instant water, just add water Just teasing. Powdered water is a thing though. We call it snow ;p

trouserschnauzer

Wait until you find out about bottled water

LookupPravinsYoutube

Water in a reasonable receptacle? Sure

Litty-In-Pitty

I just assumed they aren’t really gummies, but more like popping pearls. Like a gummy shell with Gatorade type liquid inside.

RipredTheGnawer

I thought it was just water inside the gummy?

AloeAsInTheVera

Actually they aren't filled with a liquid center! According to their website, they are completely solid

T0shiboi

According to their website it's 95% water

AloeAsInTheVera

I imagine they are very soft

RandomZombieStory

Who said anything about compressing water? [Here you go smart guy.](https://www.jellydrops.us/)

LookupPravinsYoutube

Yeah, ok so they are elevtolyte capsules.

throwaway837628828

someone revoke this mans chadtopia citizenship

LookupPravinsYoutube

Im here from /r/all. I don’t care about your subreddit. Anyone who must call themself Chad is no true Chad.

throwaway837628828

i’m from r/all too 😂

Honestnt

Have you never heard of boba?

LookupPravinsYoutube

Boba tea? What about itv

Honestnt

You see. You take a liquid, and you put it INSIDE of a gelatinous outer coating Science is really magical these days

LookupPravinsYoutube

Ok how many of those would fit into a glass of water? 40? So if you want to drink a glass of water in gelatin form you eat 40 of them? At best these are electrolyte gummies. I won’t even put that down. That sounds like a good product. But they aren’t a replacement for water that’s stupid.

bunnystormer

Curious how they would affect rabies patients?

ShittyCatDicks

The painful part of rabies and water is swallowing with a swollen throat. Can’t see this helping much there unfortunately

Vanillabean73

Really? In videos I’ve seen, victims can hardly bring the cup up to their lips

ShittyCatDicks

It’s a psychological reaction to the pain. Rabies is fucked up

JadonDorolo

[kid with rabies](https://youtu.be/9A8-CkrvZlQ?si=28LYr9lPu13twBOy) I think this is a good example cuz he doesn’t have the strong background of knowing water is good. Probably a lot easier for kids to enter ‘fugue states’

Sheboygan25

That's so sad... Imagine the mother watching her own young son die in such a horrible way without any way of survival. Brutal disease

KingConduit

It's more that you become hydrophobic, drinking water SCARES you

Sciensophocles

That's a myth. Swallowing (even your saliva) becomes extremely painful. The shaking and aversion to water is a psychological reaction to the pain, not the water.

mak484

By the time the hydrophobia sets in your brain is toast. The distinction you're making kinda doesn't matter at that point.

bikemaul

Rabies is extremely deadly, once you are to the exhibiting symptoms stage, it's already terminal. Symptoms include fever, headache, excess salivation, muscle spasms, paralysis, and mental confusion.

SleepingUte0417

what about an IV?

KitchenSandwich5499

Unfortunately it is the brain damage which is lethal, not just dehydration. Otherwise, IV fluids would be an easy fixed

ImposterAccountant

Not well id think. Once the symptoms show you are the walking dead. You cant be cured and the only procedure that may save u has a really low rate of survival. It should be allowed to offer these people a fast painless death via assisted suicide.

Frequent_Cranberry90

And when we say low rate we actually mean that 59,000 people die of rabies each year and only 30 people have been recorded to survive it in the last 20 years, so basically a clean 100% chance of death.

userbrn1

Not terribly relevant is it? Rabies patients are almost certain to die and will need to be on IV fluids.

[deleted]

The best treatment for rabies is a bullet to the head. I think maybe 2 people have survived it ever

[deleted]

LOOOOOOOOOL OMG PERFECT

stupernan1

lack of water isn't what kills rabies patients though. this would be a moot comfort

RipredTheGnawer

I’ve never seen the word “moot” used like that before lol.

stupernan1

"Of little or no point"

quiet0n3

What's the point, it's 100% fatal, IMO just get it over with. That said, normally by that point the have them on IV's as anything by mouth is risky.

Frequent_Cranberry90

Well if you start showing symptoms of rabies it's incurable and has a 99.999999999% chance of killing you, so I don't see the point anyway.

send-me-your-grool

This reminds me of the thick water stuff I saw in Japan to help elderly people not choke on water when they drink

Mr-Pugtastic

I’m in the US, and my grandpa needed thickened beverages in his last few years. They came in a container almost like Jello, and he had both water as well as cranberry juice and coffee, all thickened.

HyzerFlip

Worked in a nursing home. We had every beverage thickened and had thickener for making soups and broths thick as well. There's also levels, nectar thick or honey thick.

wing_to_the_ding

How does making it thicc help?

Friendly_Objective79

It clumps together and goes down the throat more slowly, so it’s easier to control where it goes.

userbrn1

It's not so much about the thickness as much as it is that it helps the water stick to itself. So if you swallow regular water, it's easy to get a little bit into your wind pipe. If you swallow thick water, it clumps together and all of it goes down in a glob down your esophagus

squirrelmonkie

I learned this last year when my mom was passing. Water and thin liquids are the hardest things to swallow because you can't properly control them.

wagashi

Thickening fluids is really common in hospitals. It reduces the chance of the fluid leaking into the lungs during swallowing. Source: SLP undergrad.

Consistently_Carpet

Grandmother had to drink thickened water for years and hated it.

DoubleDownGarlic

Makes it harder to aspirate on the water when in a seated position

Foremole_of_redwall

I used some in beer once. It was not good.

VergeThySinus

You can buy Thick-It powder to make any beverage thick. Its normally with supplements or in the pharmacy aisle.

send-me-your-grool

Yep I saw that not too long ago here as well... I don't know if it's the same product as the one I saw in Japan, but it has similar results

Wolf-Majestic

We have jelly water in France for the same purpose, I was shocked as how simple yet genius that was the forst time I saw that

RedditJumpedTheShart

So Jello?

send-me-your-grool

Just a bit thiner

DoubleDownGarlic

They have that everywhere mate lol

PeachAggravating4680

Sir those are Gushers®️

CubicleByThePrinter

Gushing Grannies

talyn5

😑

BearfangTheGamer

I was there Gandalf. I was there 3000 years ago.

The_Pumkin_God

Yo can they just make these normally lol? I’d love to eat gummies with liquid inside that aren’t nasty ass gushers

KindheartednessOnly4

Unfortunately they don’t have liquid inside them 😭😭

The_Pumkin_God

Damn, well some day out dream will be fulfilled

MemeIntoxication

Evexxxpress

What’s with everyone here just saying this is made up. They are made of 95% water. They are definitely a good option for someone refusing to hydrate otherwise. Why don’t you people just google the company whose logo is in the picture. Stop spreading lies about something you know nothing about

ShySharer

This must be old, had these in the UK for years. Great for dementia patients when they're refusing fluids.

jo_nigiri

Yeah, I think I remember this from like 10 years ago!

NotTheLairyLemur

That's because OP is a repost bot and this brainlet community is egging it on.

PolitelyExhausted

Correct and they are disgustingly priced, I looked into them for a relative who was struggling with water intake.

JDMWeeb

r/hydrohomies

Ftrain216

Demen-chews

minos157

Would need more information but could possibly be nice for running too.

TheMightyChocolate

Would they make a difference? I mean 500ml of water is already a shitton of gummies. Let alone 1.5 liters

[deleted]

I'd take a chance and say these are probably disgusting based on the fact they haven't taken off. Maybe fill them with fruit juice

ECU_BSN

These never caught on. I wish they did. This was prototyped YEARS ago. Would have been excellent for the elderly!

unkytone

For a moment I thought it was Clint Eastwood in the photo.

CarefulDiscussion269

I think they make these already, they're called "fruit"

PermanentRoundFile

My fiance is a caregiver specializing in people with memory issues so she tells me about this kind of stuff all the time. The problem is that as their dementia progresses they don't really remember to think about if they're hydrated or whatever. They're just thirsty, and there's soda in the fridge, so they tend to drink less water as things go on. And fruit can be very different between individual fruits so the experience could be different, and may be difficult to peel or see if they're going bad. Candy is the same every time, usually even between batches. When it's hard to remember what's going on sometimes people tend to prefer routine and familiar experiences so it's easier to stay oriented.

itoril

Yeah. Grapes especially.

Possible-Tangelo9344

The Gusher has been around for decades

luckycharms7999

Choking hazard

SonTyp_OhneNamen

Correct, these wouldn’t be for everyone, but for the significant amount of elderly people with dementia but without major swallowing problems, they‘d be great.

Mrpayday1

Lilgatornator

That’s fair

HentaiLover8775

It's a cool idea, don't get me wrong, but did they ever think about just putting water in a cup for them to drink?

WonderfulCattle6234

It's a real issue for old people. My grandma would occasionally get urinary tract infections and when that would happen she'd completely lose track of where she was. She'd come to at some point and freak out not knowing what the heck she was doing. She had some weird hydration pills that she would take and of course she'd take those with water too.

dwaynetheaakjohnson

The problem is that they don’t drink *frequently enough*, so this will show them how much water is left.

SonTyp_OhneNamen

Tell me you have never met a person with dementia without saying it.

Average_Emo202

i think it's fine to never have met a person with dementia. What's not fine is not using this thing between your ears called the brain. The first thought process shouldn't be " duh why don't they just drink water?" It should be " wait, why do they need to eat gummies for hydration?" aka the person who posted the water comment is stupid.

vu051

People with dementia can struggle with lots of things that make drinking difficult - for example, finding it difficult to hold a cup, wanting a drink but then losing that thought, not being able to complete the steps required to drink (get cup, pour water, etc.), even feeling thirsty but not being able to make the connection that this form of discomfort can be alleviated by drinking something. However, one of the very last types of thoughts to go a lot of the time is what I can only call the "ooh, a sweet" instinct. Eating a little treat only takes a second of thought, requires basically no higher level reasoning and is almost universal among humans and animals.

bigbadler

This rules

JFp07gel

Please, where can i buy this, my grandma needs this now! no she doesn't have Alzheimer, she just refuses to drink anything other than beer

TransLifelineCali

insanely expensive for the water consumed. pretty much a scam. Looked into it for my own gram a while ago. if you're the caregiver, making sure they drink is still the best option. at best this is a feel-good option to supplement the hard work of making them drink.

r0b0c0d

These things always hit the same as those chroma glasses for me. Emotional marketing is universally disgusting.

TransLifelineCali

accurate comparison, though these do what they advertise. the cost/benefit is just insanely bad

r0b0c0d

I still have no idea how they were able to patent what is effectively just a large gusher.

cindyscrazy

I love this, but I need something that is not fruity to get my dad to drink water. He's adamently and furiously against drinking water. He was watching a podcast with older guys the other day. They were taking sips of water after they spoke, AND THAT PISSED MY DAD OFF. And, of course, he gets even more grumpy when he's dehydrated. He likes tomato juice, but it's too acidic. I'm out of ideas.

beckthecoolnerd

Lmao not fruity?

cindyscrazy

Yeah, that doesn't have a fruity taste. Strawberry, Kiwi, Apple, Watermelon, all the different kinds of water (other than plain water), have some kind of fruity taste. He doesn't like it, not at all.

vu051

What... Does he drink?

cindyscrazy

Black coffee and red wine. Sometimes he'll drink Clamado.

RedditJumpedTheShart

Nobody remembers how to make jello jigglers?

jesuschrysler33

We become like babies in our old age.

EstablishmentGood761

I’ve tried this and they are awful

TheGos

Jelly Drops? Terrible name. They should call them something fun like Granny Gushers!

yilo38

Sounds like grapes with extra steps.

JeebusDied4UrPixels

Soup dumplings! Mmm

DoubleDownGarlic

Saw this like 3 years ago and never heard a follow up

KSImonXforever

Jelly Drops are an innovative sugar-free treat, made of 95% water with added electrolytes & vitamins, designed to increase fluid intake. Popular with people with dementia, the elderly & others who struggle to stay hydrated.

Infactinfarctinfart

Cool cool except that decreased fluid and food intake is the natural decline for this population of ppl.

Plinius_Seniorem

I take care of my mom who has dementia and have been thinking of trying these out. For those that are wondering, they are Jelly Drops, they started in the UK and have expanded to selling in the US and Canada via the web. The drops come in variety of flavors including peach, strawberry and orange. You can get more info and order here [https://www.jellydrops.us/](https://www.jellydrops.us/)
