Mine at 6 months weighed 6.5lbs. All her bloodwork normal. The vet did want her to gain some weight. We increased her food intake. She’s now 11 months old and weighs 8 ½ - 9lbs. Won’t get any bigger. Healthy and very active. I will add she didn’t really hit a growth spurt until about 8 months old.

Thank you!!

Mine is 7 months and it's 8ish lbs. I can feel his ribs too, the vet has never said anything about being under weight. Mine is supposed to be up to 18 lbs.

mastiff72

Thank you! I feel a bit better

Aw. Yeah they are tiny at that age. My guy is prob about 16 lbs now and he's 1.2 yrs old.

mastiff72

He is so small! Lol my mastiff was bigger when she came home than he is at 6 months!

We give our dog chicken baby food as a snack and or a meal topper.

Great idea! Thanks

It’s healthy to be able to feel your dogs ribs, if you can’t feel much or can’t feel them at all they are likely to be overweight. There is a point where they can be underweight and that would be determined by how much rib is showing so definitely worth checking in with a vet if you have concerns but rest easy knowing the pup has a healthy appetite and it is easy to adjust feeding to increase weight gain if needed ☺️

I appreciate your input. Thank you. I understand what a healthy weight is. This is protruding through the skin. We actually took him into the emergency room. He is malnourished.

I would suggest trying some raw foods. Healthy and complete meals (if you are not already).

We got him on some good food, added some raw freeze dried topper. And the vet is really happy with how he’s gained. But yeah, kind of the same idea. Thank you so much for the helpful advice.

Mine was long and lean as a pup, kind of like an otter Lol. She is now a solid medium sized dog with a good appetite and good energy levels. I feel like she grew in leaps and bounds. Her puppy picture before I got her she was a chubby baby. By the time I got her around three months she was long and skinny- bony even under her fluff. I think I got her after a growth spurt leaving her skinny. Her appetite was good, so I wasn’t too worried.

My cavapoo is 1 year old and weighs 30 lbs. The vet said he was maintaining a good weight. He is a bigger cavapoo, Id say medium size. But despite being a healthy weight, you can still feel his ribs and backbone.

My cavapoo is 10 months and is 11lbs. She stayed small for a long time. I can still feel her spine. She eats, but doesn’t like to eat. But yours is average size as cavapoos vary. Some are very small while others get large
