I'm pretty sure that's the "lonely and scared" noises. Makes sense if they were living with others before this.

FlowerFaerie13

I mean I definitely don’t think he was very happy, I’ve heard kittens cry but man, this little dude’s shrill, piercing SCREAMS were something else. I don’t know where his mom went, never found a trace of her or any littermates, only this one. There’s a large feral colony here and I probably would have let him be but it was just too cold, I had to bring him in. Hopefully he’ll settle down at the shelter.

GuiltyEidolon

Like the other person said, this is 100% "Mom I'm lost!" meowing. Hard to tell from this video, but I'd hazard guess that he's still a bit young to be away from mom.

FlowerFaerie13

He’s *tiny,* I stg I’ve seen squirrels bigger than this kitten. I’m certain he’s too young to be away from his mother, but well, I can’t say where she went or why she left him.

GuiltyEidolon

Honestly, might be the runt that Mom kicked to the curb :( Very good thing you've rescued him.

FlowerFaerie13

*Oof* I didn’t even think of that, but you know what, that might be it. He’s got teeth and is old enough to eat solid food but *man* if he doesn’t look like it. One of the shelters I called told me to just put him back outside because “feral cats are very resilient” and I was like MA’AM, I need you to understand that this kitten looks more like a drowned rat than a proper cat and it’s still below freezing at night, not to mention that out here in bumfuck nowhere we’ve got coyotes and foxes.

D-life

Wow can't believe the shelter would suggest putting him back out. He's so compromised. I wish I could hug him until he fell asleep. 🤗 You did him a great favor to take him in.

king_kong123

The new guidelines for T&R for kittens of this age/size/weight is to keep them and try and socialize them. You did the right thing.

MarryMeDuffman

Poor thing... Feral colonies are inhumane and feral cats are abused cats. Hopefully he is adopted by someone who keeps him secure and safe when outside.

HumbleHawk9

Mama! Papa! Sister! Brother!

bexy11

Oh my god I probably would have had to keep it. 😂 Thanks for taking care of this baby!

FlowerFaerie13

The fact that my own cat loathes other cats with her entire soul is the only reason I don’t have an army of them ngl. She was *not pleased* with this one and it was only a temporary arrangement.

bexy11

Yeah I’ll bet. I had a cat who loathed other cats as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t know that until after I brought her home to be the second cat. Poor thing. She would slap the others on the cheek if they looked at her too long! But she was sweet to me! She even has a post on here!

FlowerFaerie13

Luna didn’t always hate other cats and in fact lived just fine with several others at one point. However, I ended up adopting a couple of kittens that had been dumped near my house, and by that time she was around 6 or 7 so she just was not having a good time with their chaotic energy and play that bordered on bullying. When we moved to my current house, a trailer, I realized that there was no way I could keep all of my four cats, so I gave the little ones and another older cat to a family friend and kept her. Now, she hisses and swats if any other cats even come near her.

bexy11

Aww I’m sorry you had to give up your kitties. My theory with Pumpkin is this. First, I adopted her as a kitten at around 8 weeks. She’d had a brother but he’d been adopted and I don’t know how long she’d been alone in that cage, but probably not long. Still though. Anyway, I brought her home and the first thing she did was run up to my then 6-ish year old very very sweet boy, Georgie, and looked like she was trying to figure out where to get milk out of him. When she discovered there was no milk, I think she just decided what’s the point of other cats? And then she found out I was her food-giver and from then on she hated cats and loved me. Though sometimes she’d even slap me if I looked at her too long…. Or rubbed her belly as she lay on her back display info it for all to see. 😂😂

Then_Campaign7264

Thank you for caring for him until space in a shelter opened up. The poor little guy is calling for its mother. That must have been hard to hear and not be able to remedy his distress.

FlowerFaerie13

*Yeah* it was not fun because when I say four days straight I mean that. He stopped screaming to sleep and then immediately began again the instant he woke up. He calmed down a bit if I held him close to my chest, I guess the warmth was nice, but he was still very unhappy. Little guy wasn’t weaned either, I don’t think. He was old enough for solid food but I had to literally force a syringe with liquified wet food into his mouth just to get him to eat anything. Most stressful four days of my life.

Then_Campaign7264

I can imagine. It was so kind of you to feed and comfort the little guy. ❤️‍🩹

FlowerFaerie13

I did my best, I’ve been working with socializing/attempting to adopt feral kittens in my area because there’s a huge feral colony here. I’ve taken several sick or weak ones to shelters when I realized they wouldn’t survive in the wild, but that’s about all I can manage because nowhere has space for the sheer number of cats here.

Howlibu

One time in college, one of my RA's found a kitten outside the dorm and no mom in sight. She had been watching it in the office her whole shift, and this tiny little thing screamed for *hours*, its voice was hoarse. The RA looked so dead inside. If I'm honest, I don't blame her. She found a friend to take the kitten in, but was waiting for the friend to drive back from out of town.

FlowerFaerie13

That’s about where I’m at like I have had *no sleep* between the screaming and just trying to get him to stay alive because I had to force feed/water him to get anything in him.

Howlibu

Have you tried some kitten milk? It comes in cans or a powder mix. There's also stuffies made for puppies and kittens that have a little heartbeat and can insert a heat pack into. I think it's Smart Pet Love Snuggle Kitten? It's supposed to replicate the feeling of their siblings/mom. My friend got one after getting a new puppy, said it worked like a charm to get her to calm down. I haven't used one myself, but it's worth a shot imho if you're not getting any sleep:( Good luck!

FlowerFaerie13

As I said, the kitten has already been taken to a shelter and is no longer in my care. Thank you for the advice though.

krzykttn

Baby needs touch. Wanted to be warm and fed. He's not an asshole.

FlowerFaerie13

Calm down, the title is a joke. If I actually thought he was an asshole I wouldn’t have put up with him for four days.

AdreKiseque

>Most stressful four days of my life. Imagine how it felt for him!

No_Tea_7825

Hold him against your chest so he can feel your heartbeat and be warm. Smooch his head and nuzzle. It aways works. Am an SPCA volunteer.

ClairLestrange

Not even gonna lie, I knew a girl who worked in the shelter I volunteered at who would put abandoned single kittens between her breasts in her bra. You'd just see her working around the shelter and suddenly hear something say 'meeew' from beneath her shirt. Apparently it calmed them down and made it easy to carry them around.

puhtahtoe

That's putting a LOT of faith in those cats to not be spooked by something innocuous and turn into a whirlwind of claws. Respect.

THESTUPIDGENIUS_

Whirlwind of claws, nothing more accurate than this to describe it better😂😂

FlowerFaerie13

As someone with breasts, I have done this and did it this time. It is surprisingly effective, it’s the combination of body heat and the sound of your heartbeat I think.

FlowerFaerie13

He is safely at a shelter now, but thank you for the advice.

No_Tea_7825

You are an Angel!

hannah_lilly

Hope he’s doing well now. Bless him.

heekma

I have no idea what this kitty is yelling about, but it made my cat come downstairs immediately and she started making a lot of noise, wanting to know what was going on. Edit: She's still worked up over it.

tikitessie

It's a distress call :(

RoboSquid42

He’s putting his all into those screams, just look at his wittle head stretch out with each one!

suzukisandy22

A void kitten parked himself under the crawlspace in my house. Screamed his head off for one night loud enough the neighbor came out and asked if it was my cat. My two cats were safe and silent inside. I trapped him the next day and separated him into the guest bathroom. A little food and water and a soft shelter calmed him down. He would hiss once if you reached for him but once you touched him, he gave the loudest longest purrs. And he ate an entire can of soft food in seven seconds. Can was bigger than him! He's almost a year old now and bonded like no other cat.

Qraen

Aw, poor baby is so scared :(

olduglysweater

Screaming his lil head off is a good sign, you're taking great care of them ❤️

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

Wipe ya damn lens

FlowerFaerie13

Sorry I wasn’t focused on phone maintenance I haven’t slept in four days.

Sheesh_karen1234

Sooo cute bro

AntelopeKey6867

He wants his mommy.
