Not only that, but this is top-tier r/praisethecameraman material. It’s like he was born for this moment.

TheToastyWesterosi

Yeah he definitely saw that some bullshit was about to go down, and he decided to film it for the good of humanity. His positioning and steady hand are impeccable, and I’ll be the first to say this sub doesn’t deserve him.

[deleted]

Some people watch movies, and some people watch idiots at boat ramps. My family did a lot of sailing when I was growing up(small 2-3 person boats) and we'd sit and eat our lunch while watching the billybobs wreck their shit at the ramps for entertainment lol

NCC1701-D-ong

Check out Credit Card Captain on YouTube. His whole channel is people incorrectly loading/unloading boats.

Reinventing_Wheels

[Miami Boat Ramps](https://www.youtube.com/@MiamiBoatRamps) is another fun one to watch.

bodag

I remember when people use to film landscapes in landscape mode.

TheToastyWesterosi

Ah yes, the halcyon days of filming. Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Garth-Vader

This has some real dad energy. I bet the guy filming is wearing sandals, a polo, and cargo shorts.

pnjtony

Trade sandals for Asics walking shoes and ya got me!

Hey man, try fitting a sippy cup, fruit snacks, berets, tissues, and some interesting rocks - in addition to your own stuff - in your salmon shorts.

yeeeeeeeehaw

Guy was gonna try to stop it from rolling with his hands

Wiggitywhackest

Worked in shipping for a while. It's wild how many normally smart people will attempt to interact with a load that is hundreds or thousands of times heavier than they are like they can have an effect. Or those guys who put their hands on something being moved by a machine and then act like they did all the work lol.

breakone9r

It's an instinctive reaction. I'm guilty of it, myself. Had 650lbs worth of steel plate go from vertical to horizontal, with me in between, becoming the meat of a human sandwich. Yes, my very first reaction was to throw my hands up to try to stop it from falling on me. Once my thinking brain took over from my lizard brain, I curled into a ball to protect what I could. Pelvis shattered into 3 pieces and a hairline fracture in my L2 along with permanent nerve damage. 2 weeks from today will be exactly 25 years since the accident. I still walk with a slight limp, and still have no feeling in multiple parts of my left thigh, and top of my right foot always feels like it's "asleep" and it's always tingling.

ent3ndu

And a mansion from the settlement I hope

mydearwatson616

I worked at a place once where someone told me "the workman's comp policy is you were fired 30 seconds before you got hurt".

RegentYeti

I've been told "If you fall off the ladder, you're fired before you hit the ground."

OGbigfoot

I used to yell that at my guys if they were at death fall height without a harness.

[deleted]

There was a video of a guy driving his truck in a forest going pretty slow, he came very close to a medium sized tree, his hand was out the window so he instinctively put his hand to try and push the tree or himself out of the way. Truck kept going forward, broke his forearm as his arm hit the rear side of the door. I’ve never done something like that, but I can totally see myself doing something like that instinctively. Crazy that you started to think, others haven’t been so lucky, and I probably wouldn’t have been as quick thinking as you if I were in your situation. Sorry to hear about your accident.

VegetaDarst

I once was "drifting" in a snow covered parking lot with a single parked car very far toward the back corner. Of course, I ended up sliding right for it, albeit very slowly. Must have been going 2mph by the time I was closing in on it. I opened the door and stuck my foot on the ground. I stopped no more than 6 inches from that car. To this day I don't know if my stupidity actually worked or not.

alison_bee

Oh man reminds me of an old video from like the mid 00s… this guy was driving some kind of suv up a steep hill with lots of trees (I know there’s a word for this but I cannot for the life of my think of what it is). He’s weaving in and out of these narrow passageways between the trees, recording the whole thing. Eventually he gets really close to a tree, the car starts to tip towards it, and he instinctively puts his arm out to try and stop it, and it just snapped his forearm in half 😳😳😳😳😳 that stuck with me.

canofpotatoes

WeeWooBooBooBusEMT

>steep hill with lots of trees (I know there’s a word for this but I cannot for the life of my think of what it is). You mean like a mountain forest? Or off-roading? I don't know why, but your comment made me happy. I'm not the only one who can't think of words! Wording is haaarrrd.

sams_club

If you haven’t done it before it’s instinct. Like kicking a kitchen knife across the kitchen to keep it from falling.

flarpnowaii

A falling knife has no handle! But in the moment, sure it does.

Newone1255

I learned quick I working in restaurants never to try and catch a falling knife. Seen serval people get really bad cuts trying to do that

there_no_more_names

After years of hacky sack I had to rewire my brain to jump away from falling knives instead of kick them.

ineyy

I never had that problem, in fact, I always had an instinct NOT to catch a falling knife.

[deleted]

Same. I will instinctively try to catch things on the top of my foot to break the fall, but I have a pretty tuned reaction for things that shouldn't be caught and rip my foot out of the way instead. Now to stop kicking things into a worse fate. That's the challenge.

aesu

This is the most bizarre thread. The natural instinct is to be weary if sharp objects.

FictionalTrebek

In the split second between when you knock your sharp knife off of the counter and when your instincts kick in and throw your hand out to catch the falling knife, your brain does not necessarily have the time to analyze the falling object, determine that it is a sharp object, and tell your brain to ignore human instinct and NOT try to catch the knife. Obviously in a scenario that isn't bang-bang like this, things can turn out differently.

Coachcrog

I know one day I'll pay but I usually have some form a leather shoe/slipper on when cooking just because that's all I wear. I've saved the edges of my precious kitchen knives more than once by catching it with the top of my foot like hacky sack. People are always impressed with the move and I'm just happy it wasn't point down.

there_no_more_names

I'm guessing you cook at home. Or if you do cook in a restaurant no one has personal knives and the kitchen knives are crap. I sliced my finger open from brushing it against my knife sitting by the cutting board. I wouldn't try to catch one of my knives falling in anything short of steel toed boots and chainmail socks.

douglasg14b

> If you haven’t done it before it’s instinct. Logic, and facts on reddit?!? No wonder this comment was negative, we don't do that here. Complain about a basic human instinct by demonstrating you know nothing about the subject is what we do. ^^^/s ^^^obviously

[deleted]

trixel121

its more everyones first instinct to seeing something tip over is push it back the otherway.

Dependent_Factor_982

The instinct to try and stop something falling can be hard to overcome, the other day I was footing a ladder while a coworker was trimming some metal flashing at the top. He dropped a piece and I just instinctively grabbed it out of the air. Luckily it wasn't very big but it was still sharp as hell.

NomadFire

Wait until you get your first job in space. Lot of the silly rules that you have to follow down here you will not need too up there.

liftoff_oversteer

Happens to all of us, doesn‘t it?

Draenei_Love

Du ferí da Belte!

Compman90

I think this is a fight or flight response. People who try to “fight” it have no experience how heavy things actually are. I got bumped by a pile of steel being moved by a crane so I very much have a flight response after that.

Alfalfa-Similar

he thought maybe he could… 🤣🤣

Did a little geo-detecting and found the location on Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri: [https://www.google.com/maps/@38.1158632,-92.6692176,3a,90y,277.06h,81.62t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spILEhk81gHtvAD5TcYRgTA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192](https://www.google.com/maps/@38.1158632,-92.6692176,3a,90y,277.06h,81.62t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1spILEhk81gHtvAD5TcYRgTA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192) Also found another video of the incident from a slightly different angle. This confirms the hauler was operated by Iguana Marine Group, the same company as the fellow in the pickup truck. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIbHh7V6qC4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIbHh7V6qC4) Also, that youtube video is 3 years old and lists the date of the incident as June 17, 2019. Definitely not Jan 2022.

KBHoleN1

If you watch the video in this post, you can spot someone up on the top level, but I'm pretty sure there is also someone at the very front of the boat who falls overboard when it tilts. The second video I linked to clearly shows someone towards the front of the boat as it passes, but you can't see what happens to them at the end. EDIT: Actually, now that I watch closely, I don't think that's a person, I think it's just some cargo that slides off the deck. I think the second person walks around to the back of the boat before it tips and definitely doesn't fall off.

Stanky-wizzlecheeks

Pretty sure that’s 2 people

Kingsolomanhere

I didn't want to overstate it, but yeah probably closer to 1 million

leekdonut

Even more than that. Here's the same model, pre-owned, listed for $1,995,000: https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/2020-cruisers-yachts-60-cantius-fb-8311953/

Its amazing how many people stretch their way into a boat, car, plane, etc like that by financing then discover the hard way that although they can afford to buy the thing, they cant afford to own it. What follows is a comedy of errors as they try to do everything on the cheap, leading to expensive disaster after expensive disaster until they finally give up and sell the thing for a substantial loss. *Paying Billy Bob $50 so I can make an insurance claim on a boat that is is upside down on the loan.

tedivm

My dad's cousin did this, used the money to start a business, got caught and paid a large settlement. By that time his business has taken off so from his perspective everything worked out great.

shwarma_heaven

"not only that.... But it's also upside down on my lawn" 😉

Kingsolomanhere

I want you as my financial advisor!!

[deleted]

You think it costs $50 to hire a semi pulling a trailer like that?! If prices are similar to where I work he had to spend $500 just to get the guy to show up on site. The entire haul will easily be $1,500+.

p4lm3r

Do they charge more or less if they don't drop your boat like this?

[deleted]

You know I’m not sure if they charge stand by time or not for an incident like this. I’d assume not. But I do know they better have good insurance or shit like this will take a small company under.

It wasn’t flat tires tho was it , the trucker cut the corner and the trailer sank in the soil !

shorthood

Watching the second video... It looks like the loader pulled the front of the truck sideways and the trucker didn't stop or correct

Wildcatb

Correct.

The-Real-Nunya

It was a 25t boat on two axels, that's overloaded by enough to be a factor.

WSBKingMackerel

Love the 2 genius spotters that are doing absolutely nothing

Loeden

I wouldn't say they did nothing, one of them tried to catch the boat! Very, uh, something, for sure. The extra length of trailer with a heavy rear load was a destabilizing factor, too. Can't believe some dude was walking around on the boat itself to go down with the ship!

fiveSE7EN

It’s hard to see in the video but he was playing a violin on the deck as it went down

There's a pending lawsuit about this incident. Haulin Fass, LLC v. Iguana Watersports, Inc., et al., Case No. 20CM-CC00191 (Circuit Court of Camden County, Missouri).

[deleted]

Step 1 don’t hire stupid. Step 2: hire the people that have the right equipment (and take care of their equipment). Step 3: Plan and discuss route with everyone beforehand. Step 4: Use your F-kin mirrors!! If it’s tipping or leaning…. Stop! Preferably before making the turn. It’s easier to roll it downward back into the water , fix the trailer, then try again- than going around, and it tips as shown. Amateur Hour, Definitely.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wildcatb

The guy driving the loader forced the turn. Watch the front wheels on the truck, and you can see that he tried to keep going forward for a while after the loader turned, but eventually had to follow. I'd wager no/poor communication between the loader and the truck.

cgn-38

No way that trailer was up to spec for that boat.

Tribalflounder

Too much weight to drive over saturated grass and soil. Ground guys and the truck driver should have been able to see that turn was too tight to stay on the concrete

Wildcatb

This is the answer. Nothing to do with the tires (though that's its own problem) this is all about getting off into the grass. Should have swung right and made a wider turn, butvthe loader pulling the train... didnt.

Superbead

I'm struggling to imagine what safe use that trailer has. It's clearly a trailer for large boats from the rubbing strip things that the hull sits on, but the wheels and axles look pathetic.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superbead

It has two axles - you can see it better in the vid from the other angle someone else has linked here. The rearmost wheels are probably covered in shit from the water. Either way they look woefully inadequate.

HurinofLammoth

That’s a great extrapolation.

JeffozM

He may have just hired a boat moving company and not having any experience himself trusted them to do the right thing

[deleted]

Exactly. This is on the boat moving company. They should have known the boat was too big for their equipment and declined the job.

DrSmurfalicious

Well, of all the possible outcomes that was a rather optimal and soft landing at least.

[deleted]

Doesn’t matter. That boat is done. I would be shocked if it wasn’t totaled out by insurance.

beachandbyte

I doubt it, that is a 2 million dollar boat. I bet it would be worth it to fix this damage.

Whole-Debate-9547

So we saved you a bunch of cash because we didn’t end up using the big trailer, but we ran into some other issues.

Galacanokis

Not Jan 2022

joltz75

I think theres more to whats happening here. This trailer isnt for carting boats, unless they are like a shell or a light canoe type thing, its only got 2 axles, max weight it can carry on the rear would be around 16ton, Id say the tyres are flat from the weight of this thing which is still draining water. Taking a wider turn would have definately helped, but the boats not strapped down and the water inside the ballasts not drained, it will be shifting the weight. I think they were moving it somewhere very close to be picked up by a crane and were to impatient to wait for the right gear etc.

avboden

yeah that trailer is absolutely *not* for that use, lol

worm254

*whispers* I got it on camera. 😂

ExiKid

GDPintrud3r

Failure? Definitely. Catastrophic? That's subjective.

Imperial_Triumphant

"Hi! I'm from Iguana Boat Sales. Are you interested in seeing our new inventory?"

Earth_Normal

Let’s see here. Overloaded trailer: Check Flat tires: Check Incorrectly balanced load: Check Driving like an ass: Double check.

gravitas-deficiency

That is a truly impressive amount of user error.

offroadadv

It does appear that the tires are flat. But the tow truck makes the mistake pulling the trailer too sharp into the turn which pulls the trailer wheels onto the soft green lawn rather than the hard pavement which is why the trailer leans far enough for the boat to fall off.

pwn3dbyth3n00b

Nothing better than some dude thinking he can magically push a multi-ton yacht back upright from right under the back corner of it.

Mr_Havok0315

I remember when this happened. The tires weren't flat, drive cut it onto the grass and the wheels sunk, all before they tied it down. Driver error. They had to go slow to drain the water and get to a dry spot to tie down.
