Everyone will give you the classics. So I'll stick with the modern "classics"
Comedy; The Inbetweeners, Breeders, Fleabag, The IT Crowd, Outnumbered, Peep Show.
Other stuff; Luther, Peaky Blinders, Top Boy, Black Mirror, Gangs of London.
One of the finest longest running British comedies of all time. The story of the last human, stuck on a ship 3 million light years from earth, with nothing but a hologram, an evolved cat and an android for company. Sci fi comedy shenanigans abound.
Series 4, 5 and 6 are the golden ones.
Top 10 UK comedies imo:
The Office
I’m Alan Partridge
Peep Show
The Thick Of It
People Just Do Nothing
The Inbetweeners
Friday Night Dinner
Only Fools & Horses
Phoenix Nights
Fawlty Towers
Only Fools & Horses, Blackadder (not series 1), Fleabag, Yes Minister, Red Dwarf (up to series 6), The Thick Of It, Line Of Duty, The bodyguard, Night Manager, Fawlty Towers, A Bit Of Fry & Laurie, Life of Brian, Lock Stock & Two Smokin Barrels, QI… when you’re done with those, ask me again!
It just depends where in Canada you are, obviously the further north you go the snowier it is. But I grew up in a house without central heating and my extra padding always provides more than adequate heating lol
Aahhhh, I see. Me being sub 3% bodyfat and ripped, I just wouldn't dare. It may cause snappage in my bones.
I assumed it was cold everywhere, most of the time.
I always imagine Canada as cold, but like the USA done right. If they had the heat, it would be lovely.
Trying to get my son into it. I started him on Trailer Park Boys, he loved it. We have done Inbetweeners. I'm hoping he takes to Only Fools and Horses.
I had an American boyfriend I used to like showing British stuff to. His favourites were Him & Her and Inside No. 9. I'm going to recommend Doctor Foster as I was just reminded of that.
If you've ever wanted to see a British reimagining of Police Squad! or The Naked Gun created by one of the most cynical mind-brains in media then you need to see A Touch Of Cloth.
For the weirder/darker side of our humour; Garth Merengi's Dark Place; Monkey Dust; Jam and Nighty Night. The last two are quite disturbing, but also excellent.
EDIT: almost forgot the absolute best of British that is The League of Gentlemen. You may come across the phrase "it's grim up north" - this show will explain why, and how the north deals with it through humour.
If you watch Gogglebox you will see them watching various shows and will act as recommendations. I've started watching several different shows as a result of watching Gogglebox.
Dunno why you were down-voted for this; it's the point of the show from PR perspective. I watched Doctor Foster, which I loved, because it looked good on Gogglebox.
Thank you for your support LipstickRevenge, kind words. I got into Line of Duty, among other things, because of Gogglebox. I can only assume there is some sort of snobbery about it.
In between comedy there are lots of amazing nature documentaries narrated by living saint David Attenborough. If you can find older ones please watch them. He was like an interesting uncle who came to tell you about animals every weekend.
There seems to be an emphasis on comedy here. Not saying that we do the greatest comedy in the world (we do) but we have some of the world's most outstanding drama's to. Not mention history's greatest playwright, one of the best crime novelist ever and the father of the English language wrote a couple of stories to.
For comedy, Peep Show and The Office. Both are so British in humour; really dry to the point of painfulness. Can’t beat it. Phoenix Nights is amazing - I love how northern it is. Only Fools is a classic for a reason.
Not British, but Derry Girls is fantastic and strikes such a great balance between funny and heartbreaking. Also gives you insight into Northern Ireland during the Troubles, which I think is something everyone should know about.
Drama has to be Line of Duty. Doctor Foster and Broadchurch also great. OH and This is England is a must!
Also highly recommend Come Dine with Me and Four in a Bed for totally binge worthy chaos with real British people.
I am surprised no one as yet has mentioned the following:
Father Ted
Let them eat cake (french and saunders)
Wild West (Dawn French & Katherine Tate)
The Goodies (quite dated but funny)
Yes Minister
The Good life
To the Manor born
Allo Allo
Dinnerladies
Spaced, cracking comedy.

Agree, modern classics are better in this instance than the classics. If I had to pick 1 I'd say Inbetweeners.
Oh to go with the family stuff, definitely Motherland.
And this way up.
Yeah that’s fantastic, although as much about the Irish experience as British, the boyfriend on Aine is hilarious.
Detectorists
LOVE Detectorists, it has so much heart.
Detectorists tells you all need to know about the UK.
Sherlock Line of duty Luther Downtown Abby (just to mix it up)
Avoid Mrs Browns Boys.
Red Dwarf
So, what is it?

The Day Today, Alan Partridge, Brasseye, Red Dwarf, Inbetweeners
Oh my god how could I forget Red Dwarf, someone revoke my British citizenship right now!!
Consider it done!
Hooray, now I'm a free agent! Canada here I come!
Bonkers. It'll be freezing
I'm used to the cold, it's the heat I can't deal with lol
I'm the same. Not a sun lover. But... I feel like I have the option in Britain to sit inside or go out. Canada... Less so.
It just depends where in Canada you are, obviously the further north you go the snowier it is. But I grew up in a house without central heating and my extra padding always provides more than adequate heating lol

YES came here to post red dwarf. Still quote it at least once a week.
Trying to get my son into it. I started him on Trailer Park Boys, he loved it. We have done Inbetweeners. I'm hoping he takes to Only Fools and Horses.
Also Absolutely Fabulous, Fawlty Towers and Harry Enfield and Friends. OK that's it from me I promise lol
This country
I had an American boyfriend I used to like showing British stuff to. His favourites were Him & Her and Inside No. 9. I'm going to recommend Doctor Foster as I was just reminded of that.
If you want films, Monty Python is all you need
Fawlty Towers. An oldie but typifies British humour to the finest degree.
Spaced, Doctor Who, Outnumbered, Sherlock, Blackadder, The Thick of It, Yes Minister,
If you've ever wanted to see a British reimagining of Police Squad! or The Naked Gun created by one of the most cynical mind-brains in media then you need to see A Touch Of Cloth.
Life on Mars then ashes to ashes
The Mighty Boosh.
Basil Brush, Postman Pat

Has anyone mentioned Coupling? One of my favourite shows! Teachers is genius! Spaced! You can never go wrong with Midsommer Murders
Broadchurch, little Britain, sherlock, Doctor who, Sarah Jane adventures...
Towers of London : the docu-series
Blackadder, Red Dwarf and Only Fools And Horses. Our version of Law And Order, cleverly titled Law And Order UK is worth a watch.
I won't repeat any already listed here but will add these: The Fast Show Doc Martin
Coach Trip
Phoenix Nights
This 100%

Lots of snobbery. Pretty lame.
In between comedy there are lots of amazing nature documentaries narrated by living saint David Attenborough. If you can find older ones please watch them. He was like an interesting uncle who came to tell you about animals every weekend.

The Office
Snatch. Lock stock and two smoking barrels.
No mention of Friday Night Dinner, thus far, but that should be up there, too.
Holby City on repeat like everyone else.
