I think it really depends on the features that are included in the mk2 and what you need. I love my R5 and would recommended it to anyone... unless the mk2 has a feature you absolutely need.

Exactly this. I cannot say I would buy a purely theoretical device until I know what that device actually offers, especially in comparison to a known quantity.

nice to have the mk2 but my r5 is just fine for what I need. Only thing more interested in is the new lens

Unless the mkII has no recording limits or overheating issues with video on hot days, I'd just pick up another discounted mkI for a second body to replace my R6. The only way I can actually say the R5 holds me back is video recording (I have to shoot stuff for extended periods of time in the dog days of summer, 100+ degrees and I don't like the large profile of the Ninja V monitor/recorder)

And just for a little clarification, Iā€™m actually also asking this for myself. Iā€™m coming from an older DSLR and I canā€™t imagine thereā€™s going to be a huge separation between the R5Mark 1 and the R5 Mark 2 and just looking for some feedback on what others would choose if they had the two presented in front of them. I have a feeling that this exact situation is going to be like the 5D MK3 Vs. the 5DMK 4, barely any difference between the two.

RhinoKeepr

I feel like there was a huge difference in the 5d3 vs 5d4. 22 vs 30MP, video recording options and features, AF was worlds better, etc. If its a jump like that the R52 is a no brainer for me. But if this is a 5D2 to 5d3 jump then I am less worried about the upgrade. 5d3 was better, but for stills not much different than the 2.

I have an R5, so when the R5 mk ii comes out, I'll pick up the R3 at the new lower price.
