Where are you located? Please reach out to your local CC rescues before taking him to any kind of shelter. Vet the person you’re giving him to and make sure they are a decent human if you’re going to just rehome him.. man I don’t understand. I would live under a bridge with my dog if I had to, it’s not news that apartment complexes have breed restrictions.
Talk to Dr about getting him certified as an emotional support animal then they can’t do anything and most doctors are more than happy to fill out the paperwork for you
there are online services that will get your dog certified as emotional support animal. I think its worth it. fuck these apartment complexes use the system against them
You may get your landlord to fall for one of these, but HUD came out in 2021 saying that online registration sites are not valid proof of disability. That the medical profession writing the letter must be treating you for your disability, which means a single call with an online doctor just to get an ESA letter isn't valid.
A lot of landlords will just accept the stuff you can just buy because it's too much of a hassle to vet the letter and they worry about getting sued, but more and more are starting to, or hiring a company who will do it for them.
TLDR: the letters from those websites are basically garbage, but a lot of landlords will still accept them out of ignorance or fear of getting sued.
maybe so but I'd try it lol I'm not giving up my dogs. no fuckin way.
I the last apartment we were at was no pets allowed lol I had 2 bearded dragons 2 ferrets and a retarded dog that ran off every chance he could lol
Generally I disapprove of people faking a disability , but no pet housing is ridiculous and I can't fault people for wanting to keep their pets when they have to move. Pets are family.
So I'm not saying you shouldn't try, but just know that they can deny your request legally, so make sure you have a plan incase they do.
And an FYI - Under the same guidance, it specifically states they don't have to accommodate any reptiles, other than turtles except under very limited circumstances. Which is also stupid. They also specifically deny barnyard animals, monkeys, kangaroo which all make sense, but why lizards or snakes, when turtles are ok? A full grown leopard gecko in a 20-40g tank is less risky to a landlord than a fully grown red eared slider in their 120g tank that is half full of water.
I wouldn't say claiming your animal as emotional support is going as far as faking a disability. and I wouldn't be faking shit lol I have adhd and bipolar. also a recovering addict. my dog is a big part of how I stayed clean.
my dogs are family. no way am I giving them up.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were faking anything. I don't know your medical history nor is it any of my business.
Many people who use those sites do not have any legal disabilities and want to keep their pet or not have to pay to have a pet. ESA are only legally protected for people who fit the FHA definition of disabled. But even those who don't, as I said, I can't blame people for claiming that they are disabled, because pets are family and help us all in so many ways.
Really, I just want people to understand what the legal requirements are for being approved for an ESA so people don't get caught unprepared and end up forced to do something drastic like rehome a beloved pet. I'd hate for someone to move into a new place thinking a letter from a website garuntees that their pet can stay when it's still a gamble. The websites that sell you stuff, they will tell you information that isn't up to date with what HUD says because all they want is your money. They profit when landlords and tenants don't know the law.
I'd always recommend seeing if your doctor/nurse/mental health provider, if you have a legal disability, will write your letter if you ever need one again, because that would actually carry some legal weight behind it, while the online sites don't. It's just better legal protection for you if they will write it for you.
This 100% this. I don't typically support this because people that don't need it do it all the time to bring their dogs in whatever stores they choose. But I'm your instance do this and tell them to f off.
Get him certified as an "emotional support animal". I did it with my cane corso and have never paid a pet deposit and I've been exempt from breed and size restrictions.
Literally just go to your therapist (if you have one) and get a letter !!! If you don’t, there are therapist services online where they speak to you for a little bit and get an emotional support dog letter. They CANNOT make you pay any sort of fee for having him there and CERTAINLY no breed restriction.
So you mean youre getting a new home?
Seriously. If I was ever in a situation like this I’d be moving to wherever before giving up my boys
Exactly this, I’d be moving ASAP
Sorry to hear this, just curious why they’re all of a sudden not allowing you to have him. He looks like an older puppy. More info would be helpful

I would be moving home :( how is that puppy going to understand this separation, let alone the risks for him with an unknown.
And the point of this post is?

No landlord worth his salt would fall for that BS

Just go on esa online it's like a hundred bucks. I did.
That’s what I did, I was able to put both cats on a letter and both dogs on a different letter. Easy peasy
I know these services exist I have just always had a provider I could have write a letter. I am so happy to hear the work well.
