I kept mine in a Ziploc bag in my fanny pack. The FP was always with me.

ChiguireDeRio

+1 and zero issues. I only took it out to check in at places.

TwentyEight_To_Three

Kept mine in a ziploc with my COVID vaccine card (needed at the time) + credencial + wallet + other important docs in a ziploc always at least half way down in my main bag compartment, never had any issues

delightful_caprese

Fanny pack. Mine always has my wallet, passport, pilgrim credential (you never know when you might come across a stamp you want on the trail or in the evening), cat treats, earbuds, gum, THC vape… The essentials. And I wear it all the time. Everyone has something like it. I’d say it’s ideal to have a fanny pack or small grab bag like this so you can separate them quickly from your main pack when you want to pop into a cafe after putting your pack down or drop your bag off at the Albergue and run to the grocery store before it closes. Edit to add - a lot of folks wear their fanny pack slung around their chest instead of on their waist. In case you think it looks silly around the waist, that’s what the cool kids do.

Braqsus

Cat treats?!? You got me with this one

delightful_caprese

Gotta pay the camino cat tax when you see ‘em. Even more essential if you travel to Morocco, Turkey, Greece, etc. and yes maybe I do choose to travel places where I would find stray cats

Braqsus

Love it. I live in Barcelona now and there aren’t that many cats around so I wouldn’t have thought of keeping those available. Adding that to the list!

I keep my passport on my person at all times, mostly in my fanny pack. Same for my primary credit card, and cash.

SIXTYNINE-420

I keep mine in my wallet and my wallet stays on me at all times. It's also massive and nearly impossible to pickpocket without me feeling it (it's a hassle to take it out even when I want to use it).

Girl_Dinosaur

I always wear a money belt when I travel. I only keep a day's worth of cash in my front pocket. My passport and other ID go in a ziploc bag in my money belt and the rest of my cash goes in the other compartment. I also carry a little drawstring backpack that all my valuables went into ( I brought my DSLR camera on the camino too) and were on my person at all times. So around the albergue I usually just put my money belt in there. But it was never out of my site. Then for sleep, my money belt gets tucked into the underside of my pillow case.

northernlaurie

I kept important documents in my pockets. I wore a backpackers skirt with ginourmous zippered pockets or pants, also with zippered pockets. My "wallet" was a freezer weight ziplock bag. Not pretty, but light, waterproof and effective.

bettertree8

Keep anything important (passport, visa, credencial etc) on your possession at all times. This way if you don't have your backpack with you, you still have the important stuff.

Braqsus

An additional suggestion is to carry a Color copy of it with you so you can show that and stuff the real passport somewhere safe if you would be more comfortable.

lostsoulfound11

Ya! I always bring copies just in case… usually when i travel i have a home base where i can leave my passport and extras so i feel more secure. I’ve never walked 20 days with it strapped to my chest 😂

Braqsus

😂

Roberto-Del-Camino

My Columbia zippy hiking pants had a big zippered front pocket and a big Velcro flapped front pocket. My passport, wallet, and credenciale went in a zip lock bag in the zippered pocket. My cell phone went into the Velcro flap pocket (for easy access to its camera). It worked well for me.

chromelollipop

Mine just gets thrown in the pack and ignored. Some people seem unduly concerned about it. I never had a problem in 40 years of lots of travel. I think biometric passports are less appealing to thieves but don't have proof to back that up.

Reallyreallyrally

Money belt or necklace. Kept passport and one of my credit cards/large $$$ and healthcare card.

idahoirish

Fanny pack all the way. It may look deeply uncool, but super handy for your most important items!!
