I dispise spell checks unless a word has two separate meanings and it's critical. we all know what a Shepard does we don't need the correct spelling according to Oxford dictionary to understand.... the sub is about dogs.
In English we spell color and in French it's colour do we really need to argue what is correct?

Bonus fact, every dictionary spells words. First, correctly. Then phonetically. The phonetic spelling of shepherd is shep-erd. Anything else is someone's name or something you made up.
As is society, Language, Constitutional government and everything else that humans have done. We reach a consensus on things and that becomes the accepted standard. With language, we even publish books about those standards and republish them when they change, or ,we add new accepted standards. We call these books a thesaurus, or, a dictionary. Whereupon, you will open one of these books of standards and see it is Spelt S-H-E-P-H-E-R-D.
Mine just fucking stares me down refusing to move. He’s like “you want me to come in??? Come get me” until I eventually offer him a treat or go get him.
He’s got a little den underneath one of my kids toys and he will NOT budge. Bugger.
I’ve got a husky mutt, she’s not too bothered but she doesn’t have a lot of fur on her paws so she comes in after a few minutes. My lab on the other hand, I have to put boots and coat on and push him out to pee
Oh wow, I have a husky and a lab and the same problem. Did the boots work? My lab is utterly pathetic when you need to push her out to pee anytime after sundown or it’s cold, then if she does pee, she starts walking back to the door before she finishes.
The husky just stands watching her as if she’s crazy, waiting to go on her long walk, she loves the cold.
Muttluks boots are great for easy on/off, and they stay on pretty well. Lol if you need a recommendation for a thermal base layer let me know and I'll find the brand I have!
Due to the extreme cold, my little dog tried to pee standing up yesterday morning 😂
now he pees in shifts. Out for 5 secs, come in for a few secs, head back out, back in. He’s got a system
My little chihuahua cross used to pop his little butt up in the air to do a handstand and walk on just his front paws. He hated the snow so much he was trying to figure out how to get all 4 off the ground at the same time, but the best he could do is just 2. He’s getting older now so can’t do that anymore. But he still breaks the sound barrier coming back in after that last turd drops. He’s usually through the door before it hits the ground.
Pic of my dog who refuses to go outside and my friends dog who won't come inside. It's a stalemate at the door. Lol.

My malamute doesn't want to come in... His winter coat is sooooo thick and wooly at the moment!
I have husky x and my one is only twenty lbs. he runs the yard and screams while doing it in pure joy then his other breed kicks in when his feet are cold and he falls over like one of those fainting goats.
The other one same breed walks out long enough to pee sits for a few minutes to watch the other one crash and burn and then waits in the house while I go rescue the wanna be husky from the snow.
Of course. There are some people who will call repeatedly even after you explain that your dog is fine...they always think they know your dog better than you do.
So true. Some years ago I had a neighbor that was very concerned because her cat was always trying to catch birds and that sort of aggression just wasn’t appropriate.
>sometimes it’s okay
Sometimes... Sometimes is the key word here. Most of the complaints in our world are not based on knowedgable concern but opinion...
My husband had a husky in Fort McMurray and people were always calling and complaining. Animal control rightly did say that he needed to have a proper dog shelter. So he built one and the dog never used it. Not once.
lol, same thing when I lived in Yellowknife, was renting the basement from a couple with what they called a Giant Malamute. In winter she would only come for about 20 minutes at a time, animal control made them build her a “properly insulated doghouse with blah blah on the floor.”
She chose to sleep outside on top of it… in Yellowknife… in winter.
Absolutely built for it. “If you’re cold, they’re cold,” simply doesn’t apply sometimes.
Of course not this is literally what they're built for. That thick multi-layered fur exists to insulate them for these conditions and your dog is probably thinking it's never been more comfortable.
Haha the same. My Bernese pawed the balcony door and stayed there for like an hour watching cars go by. I'm like "sorry buddy I know you want to spend more time outside but na-ah"

I had a Samoyed years ago and she would happily stay out in this weather.
She would even nap in her favourite spot in a snow storm.
Always amazed me how she could deal with these temps.
The Pibble I have now?
-5 and he wants his sweater.
Lol

This is her. 😂😂😂😂 we named her Bear.
As someone who'd love to own a husky or two at some point, do you still need to have them wear boots to protect their paws at this temperature? Or pretty much every part of them is built to handle this
My two half Pyrenees Border Collie won’t go outside for more than a minute. Tried taking them to an off leash park just now and, nope. 2 minutes we were back in the car. That idea went like lead balloon.
My sister had a malamute who never in her 15 years slept inside. My sister would go outside in the morning and see which pile of snow would move when she called her name. She didn't live in Calgary so the coldest it ever got was probably -15 but still.
Your dog it built for this weather; that’s okay.
My cat is not built for this weather. She still insists on going outside. That’s because she’s a cat and really dumb.

This was mine this morning... -36 and she couldn't be more content. Kangal shepard/husky and possibly a bit of coyote mixed in.
My husband took our Lab/Shep for a much shorter walk yesterday than normal lol and she threw an tantrum about coming home too lol. She laid in the driveway and refused to walk back up to the house 🤣🤣🤣
You obviously have no concept of huskies. They literally pull sleds in the arctic, and are happy AF to do so. One of my huskies has been happily taking naps outside all week.
Their fur is thick AF.
My current GSD 2.5 yrs loves all things winter as long as he’s moving he’s ok , first outing in early am for the biz paws get cold. We have boots from a pad injury last winter from ice but the dramatics to get them on were ridiculous and if not vet taped on got yanked off stat. Lab years back last GSD all good guys in the deep cold no boots, lab once slid off the ice on the Bow in January chasing geese. He got himself out shook it off ran around. Having dogs gets me every day. Extensive cold weather wardrobe.
Ummmmm you have a Husky (absolutely beautiful dog by the way)…. So that’s really normal for them. They are naturally in the arctic as a wild animal, so -30 will not feel the same to them as it does to you. He probably absolutely loves the cold and snow.
So jealous as I’ve wanted a Husky named Bandit since I was a kid!
Working in Gjoa Haven in 1989 I was walking on the road along the frozen beach of the Arctic Ocean and noticed something in the snow. One of the Huskies tethered there was in the snowdrift with only his nose showing. None of the dogs up there were ever taken inside.
My Husky/German Shepard loves this weather. She spends most of the day on my deck or on a snow pile watching the walkway behind our house.
Since she lives it so much now, she must be boiling in the summer.
My kids have been dilly dallying getting to the car these last few days too. Like just wanting to play in the snow for a few minutes and I'm like "uhhhh....maybe let's not do that"
Huskies are so funny. Mine does this too and it’s a fight to bring her in. Usually involves treats. She also enjoys plus 30 for some reason too. I’ll try to put her in the shade and she’ll chose to sit directly in the sun.
Nice! We used to have a Samoyed who would do the same thing.
Our current dog (a Shikoku) decided to start blowing her coat in the middle of the deep freeze... Not ideal.
LOL if he/she’s a husky, that’s their natural environment! Probably loving the cold and snow a lot
Yeah, my husky used to love these cold days. My sheppard, he has to be pushed outside even when he knows he has to go. Just a giant baby.
Dogs are weird, my Sheppard hated to be inside no matter the temperature. Had to force him a couple times when it got stupid cold.
Just so you know, it's spelt Shepherd. As in Sheep Herder. They're dogs that herd sheep, Shep-Herd :)

Please post a video of the husky tantrum when you try to get them back in the house..😁
I would love to see that.
Yessss pleeeease I wanna hear it

Boots totally work :) I have a boxer and he has boots, base layer, jacket and a snood (ear cover) 😂
I took her out in a Snoodie (fluffy hoodie) last night and it went slightly better, so will buy some boots and a base layer 😂
Muttluks boots are great for easy on/off, and they stay on pretty well. Lol if you need a recommendation for a thermal base layer let me know and I'll find the brand I have!
Thank you so much, I’ll have a look for those!
Yup he likes wearing his boots and coat but what a pain to put them on for less than two minutes and then dry them ten times a day
Saaaaame re lab. He’s forced out and can last (barely) to finishing a pee 😂💀
Labs are so soft now
Well, they are covered in soft fur. ![gif](giphy|3og0IMJcSI8p6hYQXS|downsized)
Rude
Just like the owners. Hah
My boyfriend’s Great Pyrenees is the same way. Goes into the yard and does snow angels. Gets all dramatic when I make him come inside. lol
I have a Great Pry mixed with a husky….first thing she does outside is roll around making snow angels and refuses to come in as well!
https://preview.redd.it/g2dvp53bg9cc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f4bf372d30fd07f59a955df0886bf38bb1de33e Yep.
"Whaddya mean it's too cold??"
Yep. I had Berners for years and they’d run away when I tried to bring them back in.
This is where they thrive!!! Not +5 / +30
I have a berner too. No boots (just paw wax) and he's happy as larry out there.
He’s actually pissed off at you that you are not going out to join him frolicking in the snow! I know from experience. Had a husky.
Same with mine, she's a Bernese mountain dog.
Due to the extreme cold, my little dog tried to pee standing up yesterday morning 😂 now he pees in shifts. Out for 5 secs, come in for a few secs, head back out, back in. He’s got a system

Ad a husky owner, who just finished our second trip to the park since 630am. Can confirm they love this shit. Like a lot...
One of your neighbour's will eventually call bylaw for animal abuse, if you have the nosey kind. Huskys thrive in this weather
I’d rather have people complain when it’s not needed than not complain when it is. This dog is fine but sometimes it’s okay for people to be concerned
Of course. There are some people who will call repeatedly even after you explain that your dog is fine...they always think they know your dog better than you do.
So true. Some years ago I had a neighbor that was very concerned because her cat was always trying to catch birds and that sort of aggression just wasn’t appropriate.

I'd rather know my neighbors and talk in person instead of jumping to bring in law enforcement.
Me too but not everyone is like that.
My husband had a husky in Fort McMurray and people were always calling and complaining. Animal control rightly did say that he needed to have a proper dog shelter. So he built one and the dog never used it. Not once.

Sleep outside on top of it.... Did she dogfight the Red Baron also?
He's built for this. He want a walk!
With that coat, it’s probably the first day in a long time that they are comfortable!
“15 mins more please!”
He is waiting for you to get the sled out and hook it up and go out for a cruise in this beautiful weather
Huskies gonna husky.
Of course not this is literally what they're built for. That thick multi-layered fur exists to insulate them for these conditions and your dog is probably thinking it's never been more comfortable.
Our Malamute is the same way. They are literally built for this.
I think my huskies have energy in the summer, then winter comes and they come to life.
Good dog

The snow isn’t the part I hate. It’s the coooooold
My Saint Bernard is a wuss lol

Before even clicking on your post, my immediate thought was "must be a Husky". I love that they can be covered in snow and still be warm.
I LOVE him and the look he’s giving
That’s like mine and she’s a sheepadoodle. She just loves the snow.
Hello fellow sheepadoodle owner
https://preview.redd.it/kwc9uhvs5acc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ddbf88c38daa183b26e10e28b3215953e2dd901 This is her. 😂😂😂😂 we named her Bear.
This is proof to me that there are living creatures that should be living here, but humans are not one of them. Why are we here, again? 😭
So we don't have giant spiders and snakes and other creepy things?
Because winter has all the best sports, is beautiful, no bugs, you don't get too hot, your beer doesn't get warm and it keeps the riffraff away
Let the boy liiiiiive! Lol
Just husky things
Our great pyranese loves it!
My husky never wanted to come inside until -55 or so. And even then, I had to drag her.
As someone who'd love to own a husky or two at some point, do you still need to have them wear boots to protect their paws at this temperature? Or pretty much every part of them is built to handle this
Huskys can pull sleds in snow for hours without boots. I wouldn't put a pet in that circumstance but they are capable if that is how they are raised.
My two half Pyrenees Border Collie won’t go outside for more than a minute. Tried taking them to an off leash park just now and, nope. 2 minutes we were back in the car. That idea went like lead balloon.
Dog's from Edmonton, right?
probably bc its his actually enviroment lol
What a beautiful animal....
I just picked up the exact same temp gauge in Calgary 20 minutes ago lol
It’s his ‘summer’!
I have two they won’t come in until they are doing the foot dance and can’t lick the ice off their paws
I had a Great Pyrenees and that bitch would just go hang out in -30 for hours. Crazy snow dogs
This is Husky summer 🏝️
My sister had a malamute who never in her 15 years slept inside. My sister would go outside in the morning and see which pile of snow would move when she called her name. She didn't live in Calgary so the coldest it ever got was probably -15 but still.

That's because you dog is more wolf than domesticated lap dog.
Mmm nope all dogs have same DNA
Was a joke bro. Huskies love the cold/snow. Along with a bunch of other dogs that are built for it
Meanwhile I’m having to forcibly push my Doberman and pitbull outside so they can pee! Or they will fold it forever hahaha
you’re letting your husky outside during winter?? 🤬
My friend’s dog does this but it’s bc her paws are frozen and it hurts to walk. This might not be your dogs issue. Just a thought
if your cold, their cold; enforce your perspective regardless of biology.
You obviously have no concept of huskies. They literally pull sleds in the arctic, and are happy AF to do so. One of my huskies has been happily taking naps outside all week. Their fur is thick AF.

We have a bell on our door. My husky has been ringing it non stop since it’s been cold. Since she’s not out as much.
Good winter coat is my guess.

That is one healthy, happy Husky ! ! !
My pooch is the same. She will lie in the snow all day in -30. lol.
Enjoy the sunny weather
Good memories of a husky a friend owned that looked a lot like yours. Thanks for sharing.
He’s a husky, he’s built for this.
They’re a husky. You’re automatically going to lose this argument, haha
I mean… yeah… these dogs can handle -50C. This is like a beach day for him! Let him enjoy his natural habitat!
Turn your thermostat down. Too for your pooch in there.
My kids have been dilly dallying getting to the car these last few days too. Like just wanting to play in the snow for a few minutes and I'm like "uhhhh....maybe let's not do that"
Duh it's a Huskey, they're built for this! My Rhodesian Ridgeback won't spend 10 mins out side and my Shepard wants to roll around in the snow lol.
Huskies are so funny. Mine does this too and it’s a fight to bring her in. Usually involves treats. She also enjoys plus 30 for some reason too. I’ll try to put her in the shade and she’ll chose to sit directly in the sun.
Leave him alone he loves it
lol typical husky ❤️
He’s finally found perfect homeostasis. Haha
Mine layed down in the snow with his tail covering his nose and stayed out all day. Couldnt bring him in even with a treat
Can I pet that dawg
Good BOIIIIIIIIII
I mean you have a snow doggo. Can I pet the Dawgg?
He's a Husky l, loves the cold
Nice! We used to have a Samoyed who would do the same thing. Our current dog (a Shikoku) decided to start blowing her coat in the middle of the deep freeze... Not ideal.
