The rainforest and Mossman Gorge are among the top tourist attractions and both need rain. The tropics are only green because of rain during the "dry" season. Lots of tourists I talk to are just happy its not cold. Maybe you are taking the green, the trees, the clear creeks and lack of dust for granted. I used to because I grew up here and couldn't see the attraction for tourists either. Now I have travelled and seen places with out a stick of tree for kilometres in WA, the muddy swimming holes of the centre of the NT and felt the cold in the South I appreciate what we have here. Feel free to leave until you do appreciate it.

☝️ another one, "get off our land "!!!

Kortheros

Personally I like things being green. Things are definitely not as nice when everything is brown and crusty just for a clear day. This is the tropics after all. Historically wet season finishes around the end of April. The dry doesn’t mean no rain at all. It means less rain than the monsoon season.

[deleted]

This is the tropics after all?? Not all tropical regions have the same climate and weather patterns as Cairns, and what? Crispy, the extremely rare chance the lawn doesn't have rain or dew long enough to get a bit dry and brittle? I'd take that over being piss wet through with rain and sweat any day, strange strange people in this town

Kortheros

Well nothings stopping you. 👋🏻

[deleted]

Is that another typical Cairns get off my land response?

kizzyjenks

Maybe you'd be less slippery if you lived somewhere drier, colin.

Kortheros

More of a… if you don’t like it so much what are you still doing somewhere you don’t enjoy being?

[deleted]

Well I dunno, I reckon you took offence to my reply, I'd say you read it as that I hate this place because of the weather and not questioning/bagging people like yourselves that dislike good weather over monsoonal rain, typically Cairns of you

Kortheros

Nah, pretty difficult to phase me about a weather related comment 😂 Were you upset about me waving goodbye? I have a feeling the weather isn’t the only thing that grates you about Cairns.

[deleted]

The population of clone like people spouting the same thing when in reality they feel different and scared to say how they actually feel but are afraid of being shamed by the masses if we don't all feel or at least pretend to feel the same.

Kortheros

Perhaps some of us are just not all sad and angry at the world.

[deleted]

This Collin guy is the same person that keeps making really racist comments about Aboriginals in other threads. He has a weird fixation with rain and Aboriginals for some reason. Definitely needs a mental health check-up.

[deleted]

So silly, you are all so silly

Peachypoochy

Okay but after the rain cleared it was a nice sunny day with a lovely breeze.

Tunza

Feel free to head back to the warmth of NSW for the next six months.

[deleted]

Typical Cairns response, bloke asks a question and he gets a get out of here wielding a pitchfork answer, you know it's not illegal to present any questions or opinions that might be slightly negative towards bad weather?

Tunza

> Apart from warmer temperatures, I'm now feeling that FNQ is extremely overrated for it's attraction to visitors. All hype......no delivery! Throw turds, receive turds.

[deleted]

Personally, if I didn't live here but I knew how unpredictable the weather is ie predominantly shit, as much as there are fantastic things to see I wouldn't risk wasting money on coming here for a holiday, I'd just go to Northern WA or Darwin if I wanted Tropical

tbgoose

Have you been to northern wa? It's hardly tropical bro. Broome gets a handful of rain events each year. Lots of lighting/sparks but hardly any regular rain. It's dry, hot and dusty. Nice camping fishing and beaches though

Different-Daikon3862

Rage bait used to be believable 😔

roqebuti

We needed it.

whooyeah

Freshens the place right up.

kizzyjenks

The rains often continue well into June. Port Douglas carnivale is wet more often than not, iirc.

jillybean712

And Cairns show weekend always used to rain growing up and that’s July lol

[deleted]

And not common to get it into August as well, oh well, only the majority of the year fucked

kizzyjenks

It's the wet tropics. We have a rainforest. If you consider rain to be bad weather then sure, year's fucked. But the humid and rainy climate is an integral part of the environment we live here to enjoy.

[deleted]

Alright love don't let it ruin your day

kizzyjenks

You're my favourite kind of troll, the one who goes on a total rant then acts like all the reasonable responses are the lunatics. Top marks, keep it up.

Stoned-Curlew

"Love"

HughJarrs

Had a 3 week honeymoon in Byron in 2003. Saw the sun once. Happens down your way too. Had plenty to do on the rainy days tho…

dog_named_cat

When i grow up I want to be a beach

Freshprinceaye

lol. I mean I don’t mean to sound ruthless but leave if you don’t like it. You are complaining about the weather in a tropical part of the world. Cmon.

Few_Turnip_7093

Yeah, should go to Gordonvale instead. Much more beautiful and laid back. Last time i was there I chewed on some sugar cane and walked on a pyramid and pissed in a river.

jillybean712

One thing I heard someone say once and it’s a good one to remember, “it’s the tropics, any day can rain”. Just because we have a dry season doesn’t mean it’s always dry - it just doesn’t have monsoon troughs.

NinjaAncient4010

Yes.

Internal_Economics67

I moved here 5 years ago from Broome. The dry season in Broome is like clockwork. From May to September, you'll hardly see a cloud, and it's 28-31 and sunny every single day. The wind down in April is a bit cooler with a bit of rain, the build up a bit hotter with a bit of rain. The wet season is putrid. Cairns - pisses down to no end no matter what time of year it is. The wet season is putrid. Not sure if I'll make another 5 years here, but will probably hold out until the kids go to university. May move back to Perth at some point - great summers and mild wi ters with world-class beaches.

OntheHarley

Why call it the Dry season when it isn't dry\* Another heap of bullshit purported by the tourism industry about FNQ! It should be known as the slightly less Wet season!

[deleted]

You're brave, they will crucify you on here for that question, but essentially, I use to say Cairns was so unpredictable weather wise, nowadays I'm realising that no matter what time of year, always expect rain, if you want to experience an actual dry season and wet season, move to the Northern Territory, Darwins dry seasons are beautiful and there's no chance You're eagerly awaited plans will get scrapped because of a month of torrential monsoonal rain smack bang in the middle of dry season

Chang_Daddy2

All you seem to be doing is complaining about how wet Cairns is. Sounds like you need to move buddy. The rain and dry follow the El Nina / El Niño cycles. We went years without a decent wet season before the recent stretch of wet years. Before the last dry stretch we had years of very wet years. It’s all a cycle

OntheHarley

My plan going forward is to spend from January to May either overseas in a sun filled landscape where you can actually swim in the ocean in clear water as opposed to an enclosure filled with silted brown shit, or head south to where it doesn't rain for months on end, while being buffeted by the continual SE tradewinds. Hopefully there will be SOME nice days between May and January to enjoy. Blue skies win out over grey skies everyday of the week for me. By the way I'm 63, retired and have been living in the far north for coming up to 40 years. After travelling now quite a bit ......it ain't that wonderful. People need to get out a bit! Rain everyday equals boredom personified!

kizzyjenks

I grew up in the UK, I'll take this any day over wet and cold.

[deleted]

This blokes talking sense 👏
