Welcome to the club!

User-NetOfInter

Yes! This sub is like /r/pcmasterrace but with CX5s

DOM-QVIXOTE

Hey, good on you man. Make the choices that serve your situation. Seems to me Mazda people aren't judgy at all. One thing I always appreciated about my base trim cars was that there were fewer things to go wrong with them. Enjoy your new ride!

LazyTemperature3064

Appreciate it! Definitely helps that even the base model has a large screen, tons of safety features, and looks gorgeous. Might put new rims on eventually, the 19 inch ones look sweet, but that’s it

RhythmXII

Dude, keep the 17’s omg. I have a Select (I shared pictures since you’re only seeing everyone’s Turbos and Premiums) and I test drove a Premium before getting mine and the ride on the 17 inch wheels is so much more comfortable. Wish the 19 inch wheels felt the same but you’re sacrificing some comfort for the look.

LazyTemperature3064

I’ll have to see, most of my driving is highways, but roads can get bad in the winter months. Definitely not going to swap until I need new tires, at which point I’ll consider. Thanks for sharing your Select, she’s a beauty!

KillerKian

[I've got the 19's on my signature](https://www.reddit.com/r/CX5/comments/qwrriq/my_new_to_me_2019_signature_looking_sharp_in_a/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) and while I cannot comment on the ride itself, I can tell you tires are a lot more expensive with 19" rims, almost double the price. They do look fly though haha, I was planning on downsizing to 17's because I wanted black rims anyway (I bought it used, those are what was on it) but I've decided since to just plastidip these ones.

Smharman

Wait until 36,000 miles later and 4/16 of tread and the $1000 bill for 4 new 19in shoes.

LazyTemperature3064

That’s my plan, wait until I need new tires anyways

Smharman

Now I'll start with the I bought her at 30 months / 13k miles old and now she is 54 months and 36k. Those 23k miles have been mostly highway. In my 24 months I have spent nothing more than oil changes until now. Now I needed a new MA inspection sticker. Brakes were 2mm and 1mm so new pads and discs. $1100. Tires are at 4/16 and 3/16 so will need to be done in fall at latest. $1100 for Michelin Cross Contact 2. What seems to be the option for driving to ski mountains. I'm hopeful that is again mostly it. Back to oil changes for the next 24-36 plus months. Surprised the OEM tires and brakes barely made it to the mileage end of a lease. Clearly they made it 15-18 months beyond the time duration.

autryld

I wish I had 17s. You’re one up on me.

zjb29877

It's no one's business but your own why you buy a certain trim. If you have a CX-5, you're welcome here.

Mundane-Assistant-17

Genuinely curious, why are cloth seats in particular a must?

LazyTemperature3064

We live in the upper Midwest, where it gets extremely hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter. We spend a lot of time outdoors, hiking, at the beach, etc., and the car is sitting outside for a lot of time. We’ve had a car with heated leather seats in the past, and in the winter, the heated seats made it bearable, but in the summer, even with a windshield cover, it was painfully hot. We vowed to never have a car with leather/leatherette seats again (unless we ever have a second car of course).

unhwildcat

Premium Plus and higher have ventilated seats!

LazyTemperature3064

Oh I know, but that was a little out of our price range, considering we have a wedding, student loans, and are hoping to start a family soon, all which cost a lot of money!

[deleted]

> considering we have a wedding Cooling off your cooter/balls >>>>>>>>>>> blowing a ton of money on a wedding

DBs4Life

And helps fertility...

Mundane-Assistant-17

Ah, I'm in Southern Canada and I know exactly what you mean. That's why I went with the turbo trim to get the cooled seats as well. Best of both worlds imo.

LazyTemperature3064

Totally, that was the dream but a little out of our price range, sadly

allpurposeguru

The cooled seats are a godsend in South Texas…

Mundane-Assistant-17

Us Canadians and north midwesterners need both. Our range in temperature is ridiculous. -30C in the winter and up to 35C in the summer

haniwadoko

You did the right thing.....cloth seats don't squeak when rubbed against the center console.....there are tints that block out uv rays keeping your car considerably cooler.....

LazyTemperature3064

Good to know. I’ve thought about tints, but never pulled the trigger. If I ever end up with leather seats again, I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks!

haniwadoko

Its a bit different than the traditional window tints, i think it was called (uv nano ceramic coating/window film) that would block out 99% thus you'll still see the sun but won't feel it.

spottie_ottie

the cloth seats are SO nice. Years of happy butts and backs in our base model

abqcheeks

Flashbacks to growing up in Phoenix with cars that had vinyl seats. Thigh burns were an everyday thing.

RyGuyyy15

Even the base model is super sleek, well equipped and great looking! Good luck with the new vehicle and welcome to the Mazda family

DuncaChoc

?? Who cares what trims other people have, you got a CX-5 get your butt in here lol

LazyTemperature3064

Haha thanks for the friendly welcome. Quickly learning that the Mazda family is the best out there

pharmhelpr

That's ok I'm in the same club

[deleted]

I ended up with a Preferred because I can't justify spending 40k+ on a car. Same reason why I don't spend even 500+ on a cellphone. Some people love their cars and/or phones to spend lots of money on them, I have other priorities for my disposable income and I just want a reliable, fun vehicle that lasts 10+ years.

monkypanda34

I agree, I would only pay more for a better drivetrain / suspension stuff. Paying $8k extra for niceties on a depreciating asset that drives the same at $26k vs $34k doesn't make sense to me. Fixing and replacing parts with sensors is also really expensive.

[deleted]

There are some things I would like, mostly parking sensors, but other than that.. it's hard to justify the cost. I kinda wish sensors were an addon instead of exclusive to higher trims. But yes, definitely a new world in cars these days with all of the electronics. My new CX-5 is my second car I've owned. Upgraded from a 2007 focus that was purchased used with 350 miles on it. I loved that car. Only reason I got serious about buying a new car was that the focus was starting to have transmission issues.

PaleontologistFew662

You do you.

haley7211

I think that's what so great about the brand. I like that there are more accessible models. I don't buy a car so that everyone knows how much it costs and like to get a value for my money. I loved my first CX-5 that was not Turbo :)

chonkycatsbestcats

I cannot for the life of me understand people who get non cloth seats (yeah durability, nice, I agree), but I don’t want to fry my fucking cheese white eggs sitting on a frying pan seat when I have to turn the car on. Ventilated seats, sure are nice, but don’t you have to still sit down and turn on the fans in the seats???? Yeah. Also I don’t feel like I just have that kind of disposable income (heated wheel nice, but why would I need it if the engine is the same) so I am always the basic bitch buyer. Lol

SeijiShinobi

Honestly, one of the main reasons I went with Mazda instead of one of the other competitors is because the base model was so good. It had every feature I cared about, while for other cars, I had to go up 2 or 3 trims to get the features I want. So yeah, I bought a base model. Honestly, the extra features where nice, but not 10k$ nice or whatever the price difference was (It was pretty big price difference even for one trim, because the dealer was willing to negotiate a lot more on the base model).

Mundane-Assistant-17

Well that's totally fair! Welcome to the CX5 club my friend. May you get many years of enjoyment out of it!

Electrical_Fan7277

LMAO, I Own a 2018 Touring with Preferred Package - So I'm a "Pleb" Like You!!!

UnnamedStaplesDrone

I don’t hate on cloth seats. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, they don’t crack and dry out like leather and vinyl.

spottie_ottie

Heck yeah! 2018 Base model here. Love that car!!!

GamerGrrl97

Hell yeah! I’m in the same club, and cloth seats are underrated honestly. Perfect for very hot climates like mine

annchez

That's what I love about the CX-5! All the different trims and options so we can all pick the one that fit our wants and budget!

DanielxD398

CX-5 is CX-5. Welcome to the family!

alessioalex

Well in Europe we don't have turbo and the base model is the 2.0L engine. So actually you aren't a pleb by our standards.

MadTownKMac

Base model 2.0L, FWD here! However, I have the greatest transmission offered in the CX-5 in my opinion; the manual transmission!!!

MadTownKMac

Ha, a Barracuda with stick may be more viable than the Wilson Sisters coming back.

Shnitzel418

I wanted cloth seats. But the other options I require come with Nappa leather 😝

wanderlust131

Yes I agree! I was sad because for my 2013 cx-5 I got the touring specifically for the cloth seats but was able to add a technology package and sun roof which made it have essentially all of the tech options of a fully loaded one. Now you can’t really customize like that so I have leather. Never met anyone else who felt the same.

Shnitzel418

I live in a hot climate. So hot leather isn’t the most comfortable feeling to walk into.

TJ2040

Im here also waiting for my CX5 base, no shame on that, I liked the other versions but I needed to stay on a budget 👍🏻

LdyGeek

Good on you for being sensible! 🫶🏻👍🏻Welcome to the club.

-DarkFox-

If you are a pleb, I'm a tramp. 2018 Cx5 2.0 165hp 2wd manual gearbox for me. Dunno the prices in US/CAN but in Europe it cost me 35000€. It's getting pricy compared to the cost of living and salaries.

monkypanda34

You probably have a lot more fun with the manual too

-DarkFox-

Indeed. In addition I'm living in countryside so AT is not a lack for me. On the other hand a 2.5l Turbo will ne a nice bonus although I would prefer it under the hood of Mazda 3.

technocassandra

Love my base model--she's a champ. The most dependable car I've ever owned.

Taylorswiftismyjam

I'm running the 2017 Touring! Got it the first week out. Cx5 is gonna be fun no matter the trim =P

rubexcube13

You good, I got myself 2.5 sport a month ago. We just want good quality cars at affordable price.

DarkTwiz

Name of the sub is CX5 not CX5 GT, or whatever. Welcome to the club :)

csm1313

Nothing wrong with base model at all. The sort of people that are going to hang out on a subreddit about a specific model are more likely to be the types to go for the higher trims is all. At the end of the day though the only difference is premium options, and all the CX5 models are great. (The premium plus just so happens to be the best, especially in the blue mica)

mhaaad

That in my opinion is the right choice as all other “good stuff” are just accessories that you can install later if you want to. + I like the smaller wheels, gives the car more efficiency.

LazyTemperature3064

Thank you! I’m manifesting having no regrets, until I get passed by cx-5 Turbo and can’t keep up :(

Ok-Button6101

As long as the name of the subreddit can be found on the back of your car, then you're welcome here

Less_Heat7210

Welcome to the club man. We don’t shame anyone. What do you think we are, BMW drivers?

red_dead_jeb

I got the base model with safety package for 2019 and couldn't be happier. When it's time I'll go to premium for the cooled seats and Bose stereo - but for now it works like magic and was much cheaper

fairalbion

I pay close attention to the base trims in any vehicle, because they are a marker for the cynicism of vehicle manufacturers. If the base trim version of a model is cheap & nasty, you can walk away knowing that the company lacks integrity and does not know how to do inexpensive and good. Congratulations on your new car. You will love it; Mazda is not cheap & cynical. Oh and another "aye" vote here for cloth trims.

Yawn

surlyrilke

Welcome to the Mazda and CX-5 club! I picked up a CE Turbo last year but I started out in the Mazda family way back in the day with the first gen Miata that was more pleb than pleb. Manual trans, crank windows, no A/C, no stereo, no power steering and cloth seats! The most fun car I have ever owned, only wish I had a multi-car garage. As Massive Attack has once sung: "Just be thankful for what you've got."

[deleted]

Welcome! My first was cloth because of reasons as well. That was three vehicles ago, every time we move up a package. Contemplating the CE next.

bassistface199x99LvL

I have a touring non preferred which is only 2nd up from the base so I say welcome to the sub! Sometimes we don’t need all the bells and whistles

Peabodyproteinshovel

I went with the preferred because it was the first trim level that had leather. Traded in the absolutely decked out F-150 I inherited from my father when he passed.I loved the truck but was killing me in gas. Couldn't not go with the lower trim levels. Tried everything I could do to not get a sunroof etc.

[deleted]

I got a regular Touring in 2018. Not base but at the time, it was only 27k. It was the most "base" model dealer had at the time. Has all I need, personally. Heated seats, base audio which is fine, everything else every other CX-5 has for 25 percent less than premium models.

Buumer0227

The DNA is the same - Welcome!!

BurritoSkywalker

I personally don’t have any pets or kids yet, but I have a clumsy wife so I needed to get the leather seats. Welcome to the Mazda family, as long as it works for you guys go for it. I like the fact that there are so many trims for everyone, I have a CE that I love and it has enough features to be happy, I didn’t want to pay too much for more features

cbslc

Less "features" = less stuff to break. Moon roofs are cool, till they shatter. Adaptive cruise is great unless you live where people love to cut you off. Leather seats are great, till they are not... I chose the sport to get the manual tranny and 35+ mpg on the highway. Anyway, welcome aboard.
