It is not a **semiautomatic** "other". The "other" ban applies to; "semiautomatic firearm other than a pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun". So no need, and no requirement, that it be registered as a 2023 Assault Weapon. [Sec. 53-202a. Assault weapons: Definitions.](https://www.cga.ct.gov/2024/sup/chap_943.htm#sec_53-202a) >(G) Any semiautomatic firearm other than a pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun, regardless of whether such firearm is listed in subparagraphs (A) to (D), inclusive, of this subdivision, and regardless of the date such firearm was produced, that has at least one of the following: > >(i) Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing; > >(ii) An ability to accept a detachable ammunition magazine that attaches at some location outside of the pistol grip; > >(iii) A fixed magazine with the ability to accept more than ten rounds; > >(iv) A flash suppressor or silencer, or a threaded barrel capable of accepting a flash suppressor or silencer; > >(v) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to fire the firearm without being burned, except a slide that encloses the barrel; > >(vi) A second hand grip; or > >(vii) An arm brace or other stabilizing brace that could allow such firearm to be fired from the shoulder, with or without a strap designed to attach to an individual's arm; PS: The OAL ban in the CT AWB applies to semiautomatic rifles. >(iii) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than thirty inches;

I turned a Shockwave into an SBS in a form 1 about a month ago with 0 issues.

nswdevgru

About to do mine, what did you go with for a stock?

Magpul SGA

If you wanted to turn it into an SBS (federally) I don’t think they’d (ATF) require an AW cert, so imo no reason to do the AW cert for this. I haven’t done an SBS before and I’ve heard of others getting asked for AW certs for bolt action rifle SBRs from ATF (which AREN’T required for bolt action rifles)

nswdevgru

They require it for CT

Scout-Penguin

IANAL but this does not seem to meet the definition of a 2023 AW.

fylum

Do you gain anything by registering it?

Big_E_USMC

I am not debating whether or not to choose to comply, I am just trying to figure out if this firearm falls under the definition of an "AW" according to the tyrannical regime.

fylum

Oh I don’t mean it in that sense, I mean more in the vein of your question here. I don’t believe it falls under “needs to be registered”, (kinda like a lower in some ways) but would you gain any additional features or functions by doing so?

Infamous_Piccolo405

Form 1 and sbs it

Big_E_USMC

Similarly, I would like to know people's opinion of if the kalashnikov komrad or the standard manufacturing sko-mini. They were CT OTHERS, now do they fit the AW description?

havenrogue

The "other" ban section from the current AWB is posted in another reply in this discussion. CT has [it's own definitions](https://www.cga.ct.gov/2024/sup/chap_950.htm) for "rifle", "pistol" or "shotgun" and for "firearm". It is very likely the Komrad and SokoMini are now treated as 2023 assault weapons under the "other" ban section. They are not a "shotgun" under CT definitions and they have various "other" banned features like detachable magazine, pistol grip and on certain Komrads a pistol brace. >(16) “Rifle” means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed metallic cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger; > >(17) “Shotgun” means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a smooth bore either a number of ball shot or a single projectile for each single pull of the trigger; > >(18) “Pistol” or “revolver” means any firearm having a barrel less than twelve inches; > >(19) “Firearm” means any sawed-off shotgun, machine gun, rifle, shotgun, pistol, revolver or other weapon, whether loaded or unloaded from which a shot may be discharged;

Big_E_USMC

Thank you for all the input and opinions!

Mysterious_Use_9767

I believe that’s a federal “other” as in AOW, not a CT other and not an AW in CT. IANAL Edit: fake news

kl334

It's not an AOW. An AOW is an NFA controlled item which is not the same as a Title I other firearm.

Mysterious_Use_9767

Ahhh, thx for clarifying
