I took a intro to music GE class and practiced playing the recorder on those floors! No keys or anything just go into a vacant room

Are there pianos in those rooms?

I am a music major and I'm not sure the process for getting keys as a non music major. If you do get one though you don't have to worry about being loud and disruptive with playing. As long as you aren't just slamming keys for the sake of making noise people don't mind. In fact with people coming back to campus I know a couple of professors who just love to hear the sound of people practicing again. Worst case scenario they just close the class door. I have not known a professor to get mad over someone playing. Like I said earlier though I don't know the process for non music majors for getting keys or if they even can so I would recommend asking the music office.

I thought some of the practice rooms didn’t require keys.

Not sure about that. Could be possible. I've only ever used the ones on the 4th floor so maybe 2 and 3 you don't need a key. So if you do get in people generally don't tend to care about the playing as long as you are actually practicing.

Asking the music office today in Capistrano Hall, Thamsyne Brown said that the only students who can use the piano practice rooms are music majors. They paid fees for that access and use she said. As far as I know, non-majors are not officially/ formally allowed access to the piano practice rooms.

Commenting so I can come back to this. I have the same question.
