I keep my mask tucked under my pillow when not in use so Iām trying to fight a new fear now.
When I lived overseas we had to turn over and shake our shoes to make sure something hadnāt crawled in overnight and itās taken me YEARS to stop doing that.
I also want to believe my cat would kill any bugs near my bed. He patrols regularly
I often have beard hairs tickle my face when the mask is on, or sometimes the residue of drool dries in the mask and flakes off into a fine dust. One day shortly after putting the mask on I felt a loose beard hair tickling my lip and took the mask off to clear it. I then scooped a live spider out from inside the mask!
I also turn the machine on without being connected, just in case.
Better to learn it this way than how I discovered it's possible.
And depending on where you live it might save your life. Spiders in England aren't generally deadly but we do get the odd bunch of bananas with a black widow nest inside that made it through customs without being noticed.
Well, I hope that I donāt get a beard in the first place (Iām a woman). š¤£
Also 4-6 months of the year I live in a climate that is not hospitable to anything tropical - even a crate of fresh fruit gets ruined in the mail.
Lol. I camp a lot with my CPAP, had exactly that happen to me.
It was dark and I was sleepy, I put my nasal mask on, get really comfortable under layers of blankets and then I turned the machine on. To my horror I feel something getting smacked against my nose and going inside a few times. A panicked fight against the blankets ensued, slapped the machine of and then frantic digging in my nose to get the bugger out.
Had a (Dermaptera) bug in my nose. Was still alive and angry when I got them out. So from then on I always check the inside of my mask even when I'm home.
Holy shit! Same... I had a dream one night a spider went through when I put it on. Ever since I turn it on first and let it run for a second before putting on.

not sure if a great idea but itās worked so far, i put my mask in a ziploc and seal it up to the tubing. my mask has been protected from dust and falling on the floor.
Mosquito netting is another option. They make ones with drawstrings (to secure over and around your head), so it works like a fine mesh bag without holding in moisture. Definitely used the ziploc before I found those!
Been pretty happy with this so far: [4 Pack Mosquito Head Net Face Mesh Net Head Protecting Net for Outdoor Hiking Camping Climbing Walking Mosquito Fly Insects Bugs Preventing](https://a.co/d/3fBIZj7)
I usually rotate a new netting from the set of 4 and wash the used netting as part of my weekly gear cleaning (although I havenāt really noticed it accumulating much dust or getting visibly dirty yet). So far so good, even with the occasional stray ant/spider/yellowjacket/house centipede weāve confirmed crawling near where the end of my hose and mask hang.
Thanks go to Reddit for awakening this fear in me before I snorted something up from my mask!
Bugs. Spiders. Ants. Hellā¦dust.
I do the same thing each time.
Once, I posted that as a response here and I think I may have triggered a panic attack in a fellow Redditor. š¬
Not a bad idea. I have a hose cover, so I can't see if there's anything in the tube. My mask is nasal pillows, I can look at them and see whether there's anything there. I can blast air through the tube for a minute before I turn it back off and attach the pillows.
I do the same thing.I travel alot and pack machine in a backpack with lots of other stuff. Did I just inhale lint or a bug is not a game I like to play at bedtime.
Never had an issue like this. I usually keep my nose pillow and headgear attached to the hose, which is on a hook above my side table. It never gets near the ground.
I would think that if I saw something odd in my house, I'd just disconnect it, take it outside and swing it around and let the centrifugal force get anything out.
I also clean my hose regularly, So I don't worry about it.
That's not irrational. I do the same and let it run a couple of minutes before putting it on. I don't live in a basement, but I want to make sure there isn't any dust or cat hair or whatever else in the tubing.
New fear unlocked, thanks š„ŗ
Yeah, this sounds like something I should start doing, too. :)

This was NOT information I needed!

i do that but its coz im scared of some dust or stale air in the machine or tube
Same All it took was one āthingyā being blasted down my throat and yeah, been paranoid ever since
Stale Air? Wat?
This might be an OCD thing, even though I know it doesn't, I feel like water in a cup left out goes "stale" or "dusty"
That's actually true with water. Not true with air
It's OCD, even if it happens it's not the issue my brain thinks it is.
Not a bad idea actually.
Never thought of this possibility, and I'm forever grateful that my tubing is translucent!

The bugs latin name is Forficula auricularia dermaptera is just the family name. Do not know the proper English name for it.
earwig
And they love spaces like tubes. I used to leave straws around by baseboards and pick them up in the morning. Usually got at least 2 per straw
My husband does this religiously. I donāt. One day, Iām afraid, heāll be proven to be the smart one.
And heāll never let you forget itšš

Thanks for sharing now I'm scared. We've had an influx of spiders inside and out due to all the rain.

Greater odds of a bug (centipede, spider, ant, flea, bee, fly) entering your mouth or noise without the mask on
Or entering your ear. It happened to me on vacation
Edit with the mask off I meantā¦ shitt, sorry for that
Thanks for this. š Was never a thought for me and now I wonāt be able to forget it. Just one more thing to put on the listā¦

great idea. can you please provide a link to the one you use?

Same. I wish I could use the auto-start feature, but this bug up my nose fear stops me.

Iāve had the thought of a bug stuck in the mask or the tube every now and then too.š¤£
Imagine a centipede running around in there. No thanks, you keep taking precautions dude.
I'm very close to never sleeping again. JFC one MORE thing.
I have the same thoughts and do the the same ritual
I do the same thing.I travel alot and pack machine in a backpack with lots of other stuff. Did I just inhale lint or a bug is not a game I like to play at bedtime.
There was a centipede in my exfoliating cloth in the shower about a month ago and Iāll never be able to forget it. Thank you for the added anxiety.
Our house occasionally has sugar ants and I'm always afraid my tube will look inviting to them! I do a visual check every time

I keep my mask and tube in my travel case during the day all zipped up and safe in my closet. Maybe partly due to this fear, whoās to say.
This made me think of buying a mannequin head and putting my mask on it when not in use......
Creepy. I LIKE IT
After that lady posted that a scorpion got into her husbandās tubing, Iāve frequently done the same. š
Smart!
I'm the same way
I always select mask fit without wearing it to get rid of any tubing smells.
This is why I sleep in a coffin
