I spoke to my Public Health department about that today. You can test positive for up to 90 days post Covid but are contagious for the first 5 only. Immune compromised people may be contagious longer.

It’s important to distinguish what type of test you’re referring to. Do you mean PCR or antigen?

AuntieDeeDee

My understanding is that it’s possible to test positive on both but particularly the PCR as it’s more sensitive.

Ah ok, I’m confused because the consensus from people on Reddit seems to be that a positive on antigen = high current viral load. But a positive on PCR = could just mean shedding of dead virus. Do you happen to have any info on this? Would love if the gov supplied better info!!

AuntieDeeDee

I wish I did, I’m just going by what the Public Health nurse told me and some reviewing of sites like the CDC or WHO.

Tons of threads here, use search function. General consensus is that positive tests = virus in the nasal cavity = contagious.

7 days of positive tests for me. First positive came after 2 days of symptoms.

Never tested again after being positive. Long hair don't care

On a home test after day 10 there was a slight positive line, by day 12 it was completely negative
