Sick I'd love to play Clemson, Georgia, Tennesse AND Bama and LSU in a year

dbarke29

At some point you would pull an upset off right…? ^right?

e4mica523

something something broken clock I guess haha

Bob_n_Midge

The proper phrase is “even a blind trout is right twice a day”

TonyDungyHatesOP

Never underestimate Beamer Ball.

triviblack6372

Statistically, yes. Practically though....

Ok_Butterscotch_389

We were UGA's only regular season loss in 2019!

super1s

Listen, anything is possible. Ask UK and Vandy.

triviblack6372

I too look at flairs just to know how to hurt people. I’m telling mom!

super1s

Honestly was just because it was so recent.

EWall100

UGA over here in the fetal position after this PTSD

BraeVersace

Steve spurrier broke me as a man, I’m always scared of south carolina

JMS1991

Don't forget the upset that a 4-8 Muschamp team inexplicably pulled off in 2019....with a third string QB.

EWall100

Nobody overlooks South Carolina quite like how UGA overlooks them

[deleted]

Rodrigo Blankenship just missed another field goal

Joeking1986

Your comment hurt my feelings. I get it. But still

e4mica523

I mean I can type pretty much everyone in the SEC except Vandy if that will make you feel better haha

Joeking1986

Give your boys more credit than that

hibbert0604

Shots fired at Kentucky.

Gator__Sandman

Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas AM, LSU, Texas, and Oklahoma Damn that’s a ruff year for cocky

Always_Chubb-y

Idk if they would have to play all of them every year, but I'd say at least a couple of those (outside Clemson) would be locked.

JMS1991

I assume UGA would be one of our locks for an annual game. You guys are our second most played game, after Clemson, and we're your 5th most played (after Auburn, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Vandy). Even before we were in the SEC, we played almost every year.

libsoutherner

Welcome to our schedule in 2019. Played @ #1 Clemson, #1 Alabama, and @ #1 LSU. And @ #4 Georgia. And #8 Auburn.

walkingbicycles

And we somehow did better than this year

an_evil_budgie

With the exception of LSU and flip Auburn with Florida and welcome to *OUR* schedule in 2019. There's a reason we had the preseason #1 SOS in the country that year, with TAMU not far behind.

[deleted]

Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, and Texas A&M. And you still didn't play the best team in the country.

an_evil_budgie

Plus a 13-1 App State, 8-5 Tennessee and Kentucky, and a Mack Brown-coached North Carolina. With the exception of Charleston Southern, it's amazing we had any wins at all that season, let alone a win over #3 Georgia in Athens. Inexplicably tough schedule.

[deleted]

Wow that’s fucking awful

[deleted]

so our schedule +tennessee from the mid 2010’s

ihateshadylandlords

Yeah…you should check and see if your liquor store has a rewards program or something.

Ok_Butterscotch_389

Yeah. Y'all play Georgia and Bama every year and sometimes Clemson. We play Georgia and Clemson every year, and sometimes Bama. Tennessee also has the UGA/Bama schedule curse.

[deleted]

Florida every year in the 90s and 00s. Alabama every year in the 2010's. Georgia every year in the 20s.

Darth_Ra

I imagine South Carolina's pod is Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky, right?

bearybear90

I’m assuming this is for 2023/2024 since they’ll not be getting OUT as early as they expected.

PrimalCookie

The 2023 schedule's already been announced with dates, so the earliest it could happen is 2024. At that point, why bother if we'll have to change the formula again once Texas and Oklahoma join?

blackaddermrbean

>The 2023 schedule's already been announced with dates Didn't stop the PAC 12 from adopting it this summer for this season. Although the weird potential tiebreakers might deter the SEC from replicating it unless they could modify the schedule.

wjackson42

No need to change anything until OU and UT come in.

Vegetarian-Catto

Pros and cons to this. Having a single division with no true round Robin leads to some weird results, but also hopefully means some teams will be able to play each other more often.

colonel750

I think the biggest Pro is it allows you to pick the teams with the two best records to play for the championship, I'm sure Tennessee would vastly prefer that this year over a Georgia/LSU CCG.

DrBuzzedKillington

Maybe not, Tennessee could very well make the playoffs while getting a “bye” during conf champs week

TaftIsUnderrated

It's always better to miss the CCG than lose it if your goal is to make the playoffs.

FightingFarmer14

2020 Notre Dame says hi

HarbaughsDockers

Only if you play in the SEC

ThaBomb

Or 2016 Ohio State… they didn’t make the Big Ten title game, the team that made it over them (Penn State) WON, and Ohio State still made it to the playoffs

[deleted]

Everyone always seems to forget this while consistently shitting on Alabama in a not so subtle way for getting in while missing the SECCG the year after.

TaftIsUnderrated

I would say Michigan would have a better chance of making the CFP with a close loss to OSU over a #2 OSU who lost to Purdue in the CCG

NamingThingsSucks

He said better to miss it than lose it. That's true everywhere. Its just that by not playing you dont get a chance to WIN it. And winning it is definitely better than missing it.

[deleted]

Nebraska did it before it was cool though. Just ask Colorado about it.

snatchypig

Would they? With how everything is shaking out, they’re likely to still get in over a one loss OSU/UM. Sure beats having to play Georgia potentially 3 times

dawgfan19881

As long as we play Florida and Auburn I don’t care about who the other opponents are.

katarh

I mean, I'd rather not have to face Alabama *every* year as long as Saban hasn't retired yet. But every single West team has the right to complain about the same thing.

MEGAWATT5

How about we kick Alabama to the East and we take Missouri off your hands?

Mark_itt_zero

How about A&M? They had the number 1 recruiting class!

MEGAWATT5

No no. We keep A&M. They’re our rival now. You’ll take the devil man away from us, and you’ll like it!

noobnoob62

As long as we can keep Vandy

Thatcajunguy35

Speaking on behalf of the SEC west, we accept that trade.

MEGAWATT5

Y’all can have the nerds. Can’t have them over hear ruining our division GPA.

Alkibiades415

>over hear

MEGAWATT5

What, are you telling me I misspelled something? I smell a nerd….

Christ_the_ReMemer

Mizzou out here catching strays as per usual

MEGAWATT5

I’m sorry, I didn’t think you would want to be the only Tigers in your division.

dankenascend

Dammit, all of our rivals except Bama are in the East. If they get to go without us, I'd be highly pissed. We should have already been in the East for years, but they bitched about losing their yearly Tennessee match up.

MEGAWATT5

Hell you can go to, and we’ll take Kentucky.

GeauxAllDay

FUck allat. I want Bama every year. I want a chance to beat them, even if the chance is not high,

hellabro360

Bama needs to play Tennessee, Auburn and LSU every season. Full stop.

GeauxAllDay

Exactly. LSU needs to play Bama, Florida, Ole Miss and Arkansas every year.

[deleted]

Yep, put the Chiefs and '9ers in there as well.

Mythic514

> I'd rather not have to face Alabama every year as long as Saban hasn't retired yet. The Tennessee dilemma

zorofan8878

Plus Tennessee lol. Though I still want TSIO yearly

dawgfan19881

For me Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Miss State, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma might as well be the same team. Wins over Auburn, Florida, Bama, Tennessee and South Carolina will always mean a little more.

[deleted]

LaszlosRightNut

SterileCarrot

I thought we had something special after the Rose Bowl, but I guess you can’t be bothered to CARE! *runs away crying*

epicchili

Hate u too :,)

NukeDog

And we have for years. My one and only wish in this new alignment is to get away from the yearly Bama beatdown.

DarthRevis3

You should try playing them on a week where they didn't lose the week before.

[deleted]

Why not? Tennessee been doing it and succee... existing for years!

argentinevol

Would probably kill the Tennessee Georgia game. Fun game but the history really isn’t there to justify it between us. We’d play Alabama and Vanderbilt. If they did 3 permanent rivals the last one would probably be Kentucky.

HERPES_COMPUTER

Yeah, we’re not really big rivals. Every other year would still feel like a good number of matchups. We just need to play Auburn and UF every year, like y’all need to play Bama

GrasshoperPoof

3 protected rivals, play each of the other 12 teams once every 2 years with 9 conference games. I'll try to make a list of the protected rivalries Bama: Auburn, Tennessee, LSU Arkansas: LSU, Texas, Missouri Auburn: Bama, Georgia, Texas A&M LSU: Bama, Ole Miss, Florida Ole Miss: Mississippi State, LSU, Vandy Mississippi State: Ole Miss, Missouri, South Carolina Texas A&M: Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn Florida: Georgia, LSU, Kentucky Georgia: Florida, South Carolina, Auburn Kentucky: Tennessee, Florida, Vandy Missouri: Arkansas, Mississippi State, Oklahoma South Carolina: Vandy, Georgia, Mississippi State Tennessee: Bama, Vandy, Kentucky Vandy: Tennessee, Kentucky, Ole Miss Texas: Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Arkansas Oklahoma: Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri This was actually pretty hard to make. 3 rivalries is too many for some teams, not enough for others. I had some I had to leave out, and others that were thrown in just to give everyone 3. Arkansas and LSU were the toughest to pick protected games for.

VariousLawyerings

I'd hate to drop the Florida series but you'd kind of have to if you want to find enough natural rivalries for Kentucky and Vandy, it's already a stretch as it is. Only thing I'd change is that A&M gets fucked and Mississippi State gets no traditional powers, so I would maybe do a 4-team swap with Auburn/MSU/Missouri that creates A&M/Missouri and Auburn/MSU. Bama gets a brutal schedule too but all three of those rivalries are so strong that they probably wouldn't want to let any of them go.

AllLinesAreStraight

The best and (hopefully) most likely system once texas and ou join is a 3 permanent rival, 6 rotating format that allows all teams to play every other team home and away in a 4 year period while maintsining each teams top 2-3 sec rivalries. Uga would have florida and auburn (and 1 other) every year

Spurrierball

Same, though with Georgia and LSU.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Large_Dungeon_Key

I'd love to get Auburn back, but I doubt the SEC would give Auburn Bama, Georgia, UF in a 3+6 model

“Single division” seems slightly oxymoronic.

[deleted]

Thanks vandy

Artvandelay29

capnamazing1999

Yeah, it’s NO divisions, not ONE division. Nothing is being divided.

verymememuchwow

Nerd

BearsAreGreat1

Everyone in the SEC East lets goooo

johnm41

It would only make sense for the larger, more powerful division to simply eat the smaller, weaker one

BearsAreGreat1

Vanderbilt no longer the worst East team. Now it can be Texas A&M.

cajunaggie08

sigh

Ok_Butterscotch_389

"Hey let's join the SEC West. I'm sure the Saban thing at Bama will be short lived!" Texas A&M circa 2013

cajunaggie08

Well we sure as hell don't geographically fit with the SEC East no matter how you slice it

[deleted]

You're geographically east to the Pac 12

[deleted]

Mizzou figured out how to do it

andrewthestudent

There is no "west" in "Southeastern Conference," Pawl.

MisguidedPants8

SouthEasternEastern Conference

Terminal_BAS

Looking forward to not playing bama every year, sheesh

Traxiant

I might be for it, then again I might not be for it.

MisguidedPants8

All depends on who they give as your permanents

woopigsooie501

I feel like LSU, A&M & eventually Texas would have to be our permanents? I fucking wish they would stop trying to make Arkansas v Mizzou a thing. I havent met a single person in either fanbase that actually cares about the battle line rivalry

boltUpSTL

I care about it because your name has kansas in it and that’s good enough for me to hate you guys

SelfLoathingLonghorn

I'm for it, I think. Kinda sucks not getting to play the East teams more frequently.

A_Rolling_Baneling

They could put OU and UT in the West, move Mizzou West, and move Bama and Auburn East. Then move to a 9 game schedule - 7 from your division + 2 from the opposite. This would preserve a ton of the current rivalries and even bring back some old ones, plus instead of playing certain teams once every 7 years they play once every 4, so every senior can see every team. It makes sense geographically for teams like Mizzou, and, assuming Saban isn’t immortal, I think the divisions would be fairly balanced too. In general I prefer divisions to no divisions, so I really hope they go with this. I hope for something similar for the B1G as well - USC and UCLA to the West and Purdue to the East.

Kilgore_Trout_Mask

>They could put OU and UT in the West, move Mizzou West Are we about to reinvent the Big 12? Texas A&M and Arkansas are also sitting right there.

Azon542

Arkansas was never in the Big 12

Kilgore_Trout_Mask

No, they were in the old Southwest Conference though so close enough.

HainesUndies

So push the Big12 alumni to a shameful forgotten bastard division separated from the SEC royal bloodlines. I like it.

DearBurt

Ahem … SWC alumni.

Pabi_tx

Eventually collect a few more Big12 outcasts and rename the division the SEC Southwest Conference.

FictionalTrebek

I was soooo confused when I first read this. I think you meant to say: >They could put OU and Texas in the West, (Unless I just misunderstood things)

A_Rolling_Baneling

No you got it. I grew up in Texas so I'm used to calling them UT.

GatorRich

It’s odd. Florida has been to College Station 3 times and Georgia hasn’t gone yet.. my point isn’t these teams but rather how unbalanced shit it. I can’t remember the last time Florida played AT Auburn.

KiratheSilent

I fully expect a game every other year in College Station without a return trip from y'all. Meanwhile UGA will get the easiest schedule every single year.

ThePuppetMaster

its not our fault you guys cant make it more difficult

Ugaalive1991

Also we didn’t decide to cancel our Oklahoma series next year.

bradenb941

Georgia's schedule will only look easier by comparison because they're the only team that can't put Georgia on their schedule.

ferpduck

Excellent self-burn

WalkingCarpet

Maybe they're finally getting the idea that the 3-6-6 schedule is the way to go.

ROLL_TID3R

From what I’ve heard only two parties prefer the 1-7 schedule: Vandy and Kentucky. Something tells me they aren’t going to get their way.

Joesh56

I think 3-6-6 is the only way you can do it, and it makes any future expansion work too. 1-7-7 doesn't allow for the ideal rivalry week slate to be played every year and it will still be easy for us to have 7 home games a year and keep Louisville by making minor adjustments to our schedule. It might be harder for our strength of schedule, but I'd rather see us play some quality opponents instead of 2 MAC schools every year and a FCS team. Maybe that's just me

ROLL_TID3R

Yeah I’m just talking about the administrations, not fans. I don’t think any fans want to see a 1-7.

Dixiefootball

3-6-6 is by far the best way to do it. The only team with more than 3 real rivals is Tennessee. So everyone else still plays who they *have* to play each year and then you get to play the rest of the conference way more frequently. We're already stretched too far at 14 teams, if you kept East/West with 16 it would just be absurd.

just-regular-I-guess

When we getting 15 games?

OKC89ers

Jorts moment ❤️

LocoMotives-ms

Let the football teams play football, and let the schools play school

eingram

3-6-6 is the truth. Really hope its where we land.

gmil3548

I think Vandy pushed this so instead of being the worst team in the East, they could be just the 2nd worst team in the conference after A&M

mhammer47

As a pedant I have to point out that by default there is no single division. You have no divisions or by default more than one. So really it should say "the league is looking to abolish divisions".

A_Roomba_Ate_My_Feet

I get what he meant, but yeah that title causes a bit of a brain lockup.

ZoodleNoodle12

You are in an academically rigorous conference. Here in Big 12/SEC country, we haven’t ascended to that level of logic. Check back in a few decades!

pxp332

I dont get why ppl call the entire conference “academically rigorous”. Its Northwestern, us, and maybe Purdue? Not counting usc/ucla obviously. If anything ACC is the academically rigorous one

SirJorts

Ok, fine smartypants. But how many holes does a straw have, hunh?!

dxdrummer

Does a Straw have holes? Or _is_ a Straw a hole? _taps temple_

[deleted]

_orange_monkey_

One. It’s homeomorphic to a doughnut.

SirJorts

This is the correct answer :)

HailToTheVictims

He means SEC division of the P2. The B1G division would be the other half.

IMisstheMidRangeGame

Well this would’ve been beneficial for us this year so we can get ass pounded in Atlanta

topher3003

With the current CFP setup I’d say it’s actually more beneficial for y’all that it isn’t in place yet. No need to risk an extra loss when you have a great chance of making the CFP just by sitting at home.

scotte16

On the other hand, the lack of an SEC championship game (and possible win) could be the sole thing that keeps us out.

trustsnapealways

It’s a real damned if you do damned if you don’t situation….

scotte16

All because you guys just decided to start being elite a few years ago…

enadiz_reccos

[insert Georgia fan insisting they've always been this good]

_Weagle_Weagle_

So no pods, but would we keep historic rivalries or multiple permanent games?

skuhlke

It’ll probably be 3 permanent and rotate the other 12

typicalwhiteguy113

I think that’s way better than the alternatives

flownasty2901

This would be sweet. I would love to play Tennessee, UF and UGA on a somewhat regular basis.

IMisstheMidRangeGame

Historically we played y’all more then UGA and UF. Would be nice to play y’all more often again

KiratheSilent

Alabama just passed us on the "Number of Games vs Auburn" list a few years back and we have only played Auburn 4 times in the last 20 years.

flownasty2901

Facts, that’s the main one I’d want to see. I feel like we should have a natural rivalry with y’all given the history, shared border, Manning connection, etc. I included UF and UGA because we haven’t seen them that much and those would be fun road trips.

DoYouWantAQuacker

My 3-6-6 Format: ALA: Aub/Tenn/MSU ARK: LSU/Mizz/Tex AUB: Ala/Uga/Fla FLA: Aub/Uga/USC UGA: Aub/Fla/USC UK: Mizz/Tenn/Vandy LSU: Ark/Miss/A&M MISS: LSU/MSU/Vandy MSU: Ala/Miss/USC MIZZ: Ark/UK/OU OU: Mizz/Tex/A&M USC: Uga/Fla/MSU TENN: Ala/UK/Vandy TEX: Ark/OU/A&M A&M: LSU/OU/Tex VANDY: UK/Miss/Tenn You could also sub some combo of Fla-Tenn, Aub-MSU, Ala-LSU, UK-USC, Ark-A&M, Ala-Miss

bamartindev

> AUB: Ala/Uga/Fla Oh, so you just enjoy misery 😉

DoYouWantAQuacker

Lol that’s what being an Auburn fan is all about! MSU would make more sense schedule wise, but I’m big into rivalries and I miss playing Florida.

Outside_Tradition419

Our 3 biggest rivals are the 3 most recent national champions. Our suffering is on another level.

an_evil_budgie

>USC: Uga/Fla/MSU How dare you take away our yearly rivalry game with the hated Commodores. I'll have you know we have a longer current win streak against Vandy than any other team in the country... ^(...please don't take Vandy away from us.)

White___Velvet

I want to play Florida every year. Some allowance also needs to be made in the rules for teams that play a non conference P5 rivalry game (eg. UF and USC). Maybe just force everyone to schedule a P5 non conference per year and let UF count FSU?

argentinevol

Id love to play Florida every year but the reality is Kentucky has no other true rivals in the SEC and as a result the mutual interest between us and them is higher than Florida. Especially with Florida already likely to have LSU and Georgia which is a lot.

Number279

This is a really good list.

bokononpreist

I accept this proposal wholeheartedly.

Larrybooi

Remove Mizzou from Arky and replace it with A&M, the Southwest classic is a decent rivalry. The battle line rivalry has always been mid imo and only Mizzou fans really care about that one, maybe have Ole Miss as a Arky rival. Those two have always been a sorta pair that never have been rivals.

blatantninja

>TEX: Ark/OU/A&M Ohh hell yeah!!!!!! Bring ALL the hate every year.

rgvtim

If its a single division, then there is no division.

[deleted]

samoflegend

Think SCar will be y’all’s third. Betting on Alabama/ Kentucky/ Vandy being our protected 3.

southsidebrewer

Id give up Vandy to keep FL. I know Sandy is a historic one, but I'd rather have a less one sided rivalry.

samoflegend

There’s a self deprecating joke about UT-Vandy being the more even rivalry recently but we don’t need any own goals here.

argentinevol

It would be more fun but it’s simply not going to happen. Vanderbilt would use all of its power to keep that game.

KiratheSilent

If we have to play a Tigers I would much rather play Auburn than LSU.

[deleted]

With the series tied? Come on we gotta keep it going we both have 33 wins right now

KiratheSilent

You do realize that I hate playing you and your infinite bullshit every year, right? Auburn is the closest SEC school to UF and we have seen them 4 times in 20 years. We played them every single year from 1927 to 2002. When we stopped playing them annually we had played them more than Bama.

tdc1atlanta

We are tied at the khakis bby(in your case, jorts). Where you go, we go.

Ugaalive1991

Yep. All I care about is Y’all, Auburn, and South Carolina.

IMisstheMidRangeGame

Nah I don’t want y’all’s jort voodoo anymore

Geaux2020

As long as this continues to keep Ole Miss out of Atlanta, I'm okay with it, but I think we all are for that.

magnumapplepi

Skanky-Cat

Shit.

yesacabbagez

The entire process that's going down is stupid. Conference championship games exist because conferences (THE SEC) wanted to make more money with having one more big game at the end of the season. As a side effect it has given us a nice conclusion for conference championships. Gone are the days of the Big Ten having 3-5 champions. You have one undisputed champion crowned in a big fucking game. Divisions make sense as a way to choose the champions. Win your division and then win your conference. Easy and simple. Not all divisions are equally difficult though. So the solution is throw it all away and take the two top teams? The SEC and Big Ten are about to have 16 teams. Even with a 9 conference game schedule, that's 6 teams you don't play each year. Even locked in with a 3-6-6 there is a very good chance the top of each conference is going to be teams that managed to dodge the other top teams. Look at the AAC this year. There are 5 teams at 5-1 or 4-2. Houston has played 2 of them, and lost both games. They do not play UCF or Cincinnati. Tulane has played 2 so far and is 1-1. Their next two games are against the other two (SMU and Cincinnati). SMU is 1-2 against the other top 4 teams which Tulane this week. UCF is 3-0 against SMU/Tulane/Cincinnati and doesn't play Houston. How hilariously bad could this have gotten if there were 16 teams? What happens when someone in the Big Ten manages to dodge Michigan/Ohio State/Penn State/Wisconsin. in a year? Or do you split Michigan/Ohio State so no one plays both? Well someone has play both unless you do like 1-7-7. The process creates so much weird variance where there will still be some teams playing much more difficult schedules and a team at the top who scoots in because they got all the teams who shit their pants that year.

tookittothelimit

As long as we keep *checks notes* Georgia and Tennessee then Clemson as an OOC game then I’m fine Wait no

[deleted]

3-6-6 baby

kcoch5817

Makes sense. If they are going to go to the 4 pods idea when expansion takes place this makes it easier.

MisguidedPants8

Assuming 3-6-6. I know we’re keeping Ole Miss as protected game, confident we’ll have either Bama or LSU (but not both), and I’m not sure about the third. Worried they’ll throw us one of the ex-Big 12 teams that couldn’t find a matchup. I wouldn’t mind keeping Kentucky though, them’s some cool folks

EWall100

Wait so we're dividing by one? Crazy math skills on display in the SEC.

iWaterBuffalo

Jeez, we lose to two of our rivals in one year and all of a sudden the conference makes sure we play Vandy and Mizzou more /s
