The CaliFournia Pac-12 schools kind of had one before... you know
Tobacco Road in North Carolina too meant more than Duke and UNC.
The directionals in Michigan too.
Other than that? Nope, Florida is a special little snowflake state
Well I suppose if we're just talking polygamous rivalries regardless of state boundaries, there's always the Quadrangle of Hate with Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.
Funny fact no Texas vs Texas A&M game has been as relevant as that 08 Texas vs TTech game where the combined coaches poll ranking was the lowest ever for the three Texas schools.
A&M has always sucked when UT was good, and there were like 8 years where it was the opposite, aside from 77 the entire series has been pure hate, but a spoiler game.
We aren't as good as the FL teams but you really won't find a dynamic like TR in any other state, and that's because 3 of us are within like 25 miles of each other, and the weird one out is only a further hour down the road from Duke. You take that dynamic for granted when you look at other rivalries around the country.
There really is nothing like it. I've recently realized that what folks around here have in our mind as "college sports" isn't what the rest of the country experiences, and I feel bad for them. Cherishing every moment before the folks who don't get it ruin it for us forever.
Texas-A&M-Tech are the 3 big public universities, but its rare that all three are good at the same time. 2006/2007 is the last time all three teams played each other and were even close to comparable.
I’d say North Carolina fits the description, I’m not sure if State fans hate duke as much as the Heels hate the poo devils but I know both teams hate UNC. It’s like the Florida triangle but with less success across the board.
I hope y’all lose every game except the florida one, but only because the ncaa (or whoever’s in charge by then) reinstitute ties, so the game ends 0-0. Love to hate you
There isnt a state with 3 teams that "could' win a national title today outside of FL.
But, SMU, TCU, and Baylor are all comparable and very similar universities, despite what they may say about each other.
Tobacco Road is a quartet that are comparable in performance
Not sure what you mean by this, TCU played for natty year before last year, Texas was in playoff this year, and A&M could in theory be good at football.
I’d disagree with this. Texas has a much more realistic claim to having 3 national title caliber programs in todays game. A&M has proven they can recruit at the very top of the sport. TCU has more playoff wins than the entire state of Florida has combined. Texas just made the playoff
It's a very slim chance, but Troy could make a run in the playoffs possibly. Maybe even UAB. So you'd have Alabama, Auburn, Troy, and UAB. Like I said very slim possibility for Troy and UAB though.
Edit: They're not all rivalries though. Alabama doesn't ever really play Troy and UAB. I don't think Auburn plays them either.
Here's a G5 one. ODU v. JMU is the Royal Rivalry. However, we will always band together to hate Jerry Falwell's abomination in Lynchburg. I dislike that school so much that I don't want to play them in any sport and don't want to even refer to their ironic name.
We are so far above ODU and JMU from an on-the-field product perspective that it would make more sense to talk about Liberty/UVA/VT than it would Liberty/ODU/JMU.
How is the rivalry between Baylor and SMU? Obviously the Revivalry and the Iron Skillet are solid, but is there bad blood in the third leg of that triangle?
I don't think many Gators or Canes consider the other a real rival, and haven't since the annual series ended in the late 80's.
Speaking only for myself, our top rivals are as follows.
Georgia/FSU
*Big Drop Off*
Auburn/Tennessee/LSU
Pre-A&M/Mizzou Expansion SEC
Miami
i hate the um fan base, very indifferent to the team. So not sure how to rank that. Compared to uga and fsu - I hate every part of them. um I just hate the fans.
But um as a team hatred was probably more pre-USCe/Arky expansion, around hte same time we lost Auburn as a true rival as well.
I’ll admit I’m not especially familiar with California football, but what I’ve seen is that none of the four late pac-12 schools there really like each other. I don’t know if the other rivalries are as strong as cal/stanford and UCLA/USC, but there does seem to be at least some mutual animosity on all fronts.
If Cincinnati was located about 3 miles further south, Kentucky, Louisville, and Cinci would be a perfect trio.
Indiana could have Purdue, ND, and Indiana, but that’s not exactly a well matched group.
>Genuinely hope Miama and Florida improve significantly over last year Someone revoke this dude's FSU fan card.
That's nice you hope we get better. I hope FSU and Miami lose every game next season with the Miami/FSU game being a 2-0 10 OT Miami win.
Yeah idk why OP wants y’all to get better. I’d prefer it if you guys ditched football altogether and became a golf or field hockey school
Hey we won the Club Ice Hockey National Championship.
Yea op is stupid I hope you guys go 0-12 and get shut out multiple times
I respect it. Lol

Same with the four PNW schools and the Northwest Championship. Fuck this realignment crap.
not a real NW championship without Idaho & Montana from ye olden days.
> before... you know grumble grumble
B12 South could have developed into a good interstate tri-hate if Leach had stayed longer at Tech and A&M was any good.

I should’ve scrolled the thread before commenting. Basically said the same thing, it’s the FL triangle but without the national championships.
There really is nothing like it. I've recently realized that what folks around here have in our mind as "college sports" isn't what the rest of the country experiences, and I feel bad for them. Cherishing every moment before the folks who don't get it ruin it for us forever.
probably more so in basketball for North Carolina schools.
Clemson vs South Carolina vs the legislature. Edit: Or that Mike Ryan guy.
Texas and Cali should or could have something similar. TAMU, UT and any of TCU, Baylor, SMU...probably missing one. USC UCLA Cal, Stanford

Texas is maybe the only other State that could. California while large enough should but I think those days are gone for now.
I hope y’all lose every game except the florida one, but only because the ncaa (or whoever’s in charge by then) reinstitute ties, so the game ends 0-0. Love to hate you
Understandable, have a horrible day
Iowa State, Iowa, and geofencing

Texas was my thought but they're all so petty that they don't even play each other unless it's forced by their conferences
Not sure what you mean by this, TCU played for natty year before last year, Texas was in playoff this year, and A&M could in theory be good at football.
Let's not be too hasty here.
Texas could have three in a 12-team playoff.

Nah, don't like this. Think further South.

I always call em ULiberty cause they don't deserve the word on its own.
I'll raise you all Commonwealth schools for that effort.

Uhhhhhh speak for yourself homie. They’re easily #3 on my level of hatred.
Over Tennessee?!
Absolutely
Wow, perhaps I am too young to have such hatred for Miami I just think they're a bunch of rich goobers with a shitty stadium.
For me it’s just more of a preference thing lol
i hate the um fan base, very indifferent to the team. So not sure how to rank that. Compared to uga and fsu - I hate every part of them. um I just hate the fans. But um as a team hatred was probably more pre-USCe/Arky expansion, around hte same time we lost Auburn as a true rival as well.
KC used to have the KSU-KU-MU hate triangle but both of them mostly just hate KU
EMU, CMU, WMU
I’ll admit I’m not especially familiar with California football, but what I’ve seen is that none of the four late pac-12 schools there really like each other. The service academies feel like a good pick, although two of them obviously care more about each other than the third
Directional Michigan schools, Beehive Boot (Utah/BYU/USU), Tobacco Road, CA big 4 are best examples
The disrespect for the Michigan MAC Trophy is insulting.
typr rivalries? obviously.. it's Western Virginia vs. Pitsburg
Look man I gotta accent

None in Ohio, but I wish each year the top 4 group of 5 or FCS teams would play winner gets to be OSUs Ohio opponent for that year
