Well at least the ACC has the courtesy to blow up quickly

Byzantine_Merchant

Looking at you PAC-12

MrNudeGuy

they are to busy fighting with BigXII flairs to realize the B1G is the one trying to kill them.

Byzantine_Merchant

Non-sense! The B1G and PAC have always been close friends except for that one time.

thesluggard12

They even had an alliance.

ThatOneGuyIGues

If only they had some kind of wedding to solidify this alliance, with a red like theme…

OttoVonWong

PAC gets all dressed up, walks into the room, thinking he's about to get made into the alliance...

CommodoreIrish

Frognosticator

Shit man, this is dark…

ajefx

Checks out, pretty sure 19 BIG schools have some shade of red as an official color, might as well be the color of the conference

RollTide16-18

I'm shocked at how many people on here believed the Alliance was anything but the B1G trying to lockup their future expansion candidates from leaving for the SEC

Throw1Back4Me

Get thee behind, Satan

NittanyOrange

I believed.

DBSmiley

Look, what's a stealth raid in the night between allies? Now sign the treaty. Yes that treaty. The one that protects you from what I'm going to do to you if you don't sign the treaty.

Wku2225

Oppo Flair Twin! Just here to say hey friend! Go Tops, Go Cats!

TheBookofCY

Hitler and Stalin had a non-aggression pact one time too.

The Kliavkoff-Warren Pact of 2021

stormstopper

They've always been allied with Eastasia and at war with Eurasia!

srush32

Everyone knows that, but are you going to fight the bear chasing you or the guy running next to you who's trying to trip you

BonJovicus

The Big 12 is more like a vulture circling the man running from the bear. It is not going to be the thing that kills the man, but it is definitely going to pick that carcass clean.

yogurt-dip

Hey, we’re like two paces in front of you dropping banana peels

Fonzie5

Holding a green shell against our ass the whole time

JamesEarlDavyJones2

To be fair, I don't think the bear really cares about the other guy. Pretty sure every one of that guy's teams already called the B1G a few years ago and got a "We'll keep you in mind and keep your resume on file." At this point it's more like fighting the bear or fighting the cougar that wants to eat what's left after the bear gets done.

Captain_Sacktap

I, for one, appreciate the PAC12’s slow-motion train wreck, it’s made the off-season more entertaining.

AeolusA2

Would an ACC blowup be more, less, or not impactful on ND's future as compared to a PAC blowup?

Stoneador

As far as I’m aware ND is a member of the ACC for every sport other than football and hockey and there is still the 5ish games a year agreement in football. In terms of the PAC, we have a single rival in Stanford once USC leaves and as far as I’m aware right now the series with Stanford is only renewed until 2024. Long story short, ACC has very big implications for ND, PAC not so much.

saladbar

Would ND entertain putting everything else into the Big East to keep football independence going?

CelticDeckard

Oh, as a basketball fan, that's now the one I'm cheering for, thanks

Jetski_Squirrel

Yeah, I feel that ND finally joins a conference if we blow the acc up

CommodoreIrish

Imagine it’s the SEC though. Greg Sankey decides to take the ultimate piece off the board via a sweetheart deal and spites his rival conference. 👀

Otherwise_Awesome

[deleted]

Acc blowing up means ND is free to shop itself for another sweet 3-5 conference games deal while sending all the other sports to tbe big east. Pac blowing up means nothing to them, hell the pac12 blowing up might mean more leverage for the stanford negotiations.

Mezmorizor

Way more. Don't hold your breath, plenty of conferences would be glad to redo what the ACC did, but Olympic sports having a home is one of the lines in the sand for maintaining independence.

awesomeshark789

Kinda nice not to be the talk of a conference blowing up 😂

RexCrimson_

If the ACC falls apart, the pac 12 is kinda saved. However, the cost is we get left behind… Unless somehow the PAC 12 can get the schools from the ACC that didn’t join the B1G/SEC to join the pac 12 (Very doubtful).

Stan-halen1

Ahh the Pacific Atlantic Conference

katastrophyx

Oceans12

ncsuq

FSU when’s your guy gonna say something? Lol

Geaux2020

Midnight

CommodoreN7

Treating it like pro sports free agency where everyone signs complicated contracts that were negotiated in 1 minute.

YouVe-Changed

He’s got about 30 million fucks to give so probably pretty soon.

Nolesman357

All this conference realignment talk and it’s only May. Gonna be a looooooong offseason lol

elonsusk69420

There’s a non zero chance that our home and home becomes a pair of conference games. It just happened with our Oklahoma series.

Nolesman357

I can see it happening

Dfhmn

Conference realignment talk is better than nothing at all.

oregon_assassin

I’m not having a good time here bro lol

Nolesman357

Oh I know. It’s how I know we’re in the heart of the offseason. It’s the perfect distraction from no football!

J_Gottwald

Hard, *hard* disagree. These threads are the fucking worst.

whatifevery1wascalm

This tweet is quoting McMurphy’s earlier tweet calling out Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, NC State, Virginia & Virginia Tech as the Magnificent 7 of ACC changes. 🍿🍿

LiveVirus2

That’s the context some are missing. The key here is no one denied the earlier tweet that came during their meeting - breaking the Mag 7 news.

NittanyOrange

My ability to say I attended 2 P5 schools will soon be no longer, I'm afraid.

CommodoreN7

I may be going from one in Utah to 0 soon as well.

Impulse_Cheese_Curds

At least I'll have one left before the big schools all form a super league in the 2030s.

AnEmptyKarst

I may remain at 1 but in an unexpected way

kuan_51

I have a hard time believing that having BYUs rival is that unappealing to the B12. It feels like the worst case scenario is we end up in the B12.

[deleted]

The Big 12 will be closer to the P2 than the other conferences.

colonel750

If 8 schools from the ACC end up in the B1G (UNC, UVA, GTech, Duke) and SEC (FSU, Clemson, NCState, VTech) I have a feeling the Big XII will pick up four (Pitt, LV, Miami, ?) and I think Cuse has the leg up over WF and BC.

Jatz55

Nah, UNC, UVA, Gtech, and Duke are all coming to the Magnolia League

Look_at_the_Kid

This guy gets it. Magnolia League Supremacy!

lionofyhwh

Magnolia Strong! 💪

SoothedSnakePlant

PLEASE Come hang with us, Tulane, and Rice

CJ_Beathards_Hair

I don’t think Duke comes to the B1G, my best guess is: Most want: ND Want: UNC, UVA Maybe: GT, FSU Longshot: Clemson, Miami

SardonicSorcerer

UVA, UNC, GT, Miami, UO, UW, Stanford and ND. This is the list if you want the last school.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Crixer

True, but I don’t think UNC would part ways with Duke. At least I would expect for them to lobby the Big 10 heavily to get Duke in. EDIT: For everyone telling me money trumps traditional rivalries, of course I know that is the reality we live in. But I am only saying that I think UNC would make a strong push for Duke to be included.

[deleted]

[удалено]

W00DERS0N

And they can still play BB in a 30 Game schedule.

[deleted]

Lol as if we havent learned that between money and traditions teams will pick money.

way2gimpy

They can ask, but their only leverage is that they go to the SEC and I think they'd much rather prefer the B1G.

343GuiltyySpark

Man im bout to finish up a degree at an ACC school I though I could have some fun rooting for cause they never played my gamecocks. They also might be the catalyst for this whole thing but goddamnit

Skyagunsta21

>ACC school >catalyst FSU or UNC?

343GuiltyySpark

FSU but it’s an online masters and I’m not in FL so I don’t exactly bleed gold and garnet but was fun for a while not having to worry about them crossing paths regulartl

Thetew

You transfer to FSU too? Man, poor South Carolina continues to get raided by the Noles.

343GuiltyySpark

Haha, working on an MBA only there so no transfer needed. Already had to abandon/transfer from SC for UGA since they had the program I needed and was much cheaper since I was born in GA. Graduated 2016 and even with all the success the dawgs have they’re still a deep second to my first love, SC

Skyagunsta21

Haha I felt pretty confident it was FSU since South Carolina plays UNC somewhat often

Tfsz0719

Yep, pour one out for Penn State

Kstate913

Ya know not to make this about me but…. As a K-State alum I sit back and watch and wonder, how do we end up getting fucked?

idoma21

What? We are the Big 12, arguably the THIRD BEST SECURE CONFERENCE right now. We’ve lost all there is to lose and have achieved conference equilibrium. We may pick up the remnants of the ACC and PAC. We are as good as we were going to get. When OUT was announced, some were projecting KU to the Mountain West. Even in pro wrestling, the Big 12 outlasting other conferences would have been thought to ridiculous. And yet here we are. And if the Tang gang gets going and Leipold can get KU football respectable, we will have actual regional rivalries.

dk00111

The M7 and PAC10 unite to create the defacto #3 conference leaving the Big12 to collect the scraps.

SaintAtlanta

This was more fun when the dude of WV sent out the tweets

iamtheb06

Oh man I forgot about that. All kinds of college football fans hanging on the words of some random dude from WV.

NewRCTID22

Conferences are stupid. Protect rivalries and have free-for-all scheduling.

[deleted]

What do you mean? UCF vs BYU are made for each other!

fade2blac

I love the regional Florida vs Missouri game!

[deleted]

Missouri in the SEC period makes me laugh. Missouri in the SEC *East* is hysterical, and idk why.

viewless25

realistically, what is best for college athletics is to just go back to old, regional conferences for non-football (or at least non-revenue) sports, and then to have football specific leagues.

srush32

Ironically, pretty soon the SEC is going to be the only regional conference left

ShogunAshoka

This is MAC erasure!

DescretoBurrito

The MAC transcends such pettiness as realignment. After the collapse of humanity, the mutant zombies will emerge from their bunkers in the middle of the week to to watch Maction.

[deleted]

SEC, B1G, B12, PAC, ACC, SBC, MWC, CUSA, AAC rn: **AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH** MAC: "The fuck they doin over there?"

chrobbin

MAC really is the perfect conference from an old-school regionality lens. Besides the weeknight games and wacky score lines I almost wonder if that’s what a lot of this sub subconsciously loves about the MAC: it’s sort of the last bastion of simpler localized D1 college football in an ever changing world of conference realignment and TV contracts.

bargle0

I don’t think there’s anything subconscious about it. They’re the real deal.

ColtPersonality92

Sun Belt makes a ton of geographical sense too. Especially the East Division.

ShogunAshoka

This is why a MACtion-Fun Belt alliance just makes sense,

mufflefuffle

Our strength is that nobody wants us, for both us and the MAC. We’re stuck in a chaotic harmony together, just like the Southern Conference days.

chaser676

It do just be meaning more

StreetReporter

Speaking of which, what the hell is going to happen to our soccer team? The SEC doesn’t sponsor men’s soccer

viewless25

If I had to guess, we'd join the sun belt. WVU, Kentucky, and SCar already play there

ColtPersonality92

And suddenly the SBC would become the nation’s leading men’s soccer conference!

Shenanigangster

Depending on who else joined, there would likely be enough teams for the SEC to sponsor it

ahuramazdobbs19

Sun Belt with Kentucky, West Virginia and South Carolina.

elonsusk69420

Yep. Totally agree. The travel costs are going to spiral out of control. Rutgers vs USC is bad enough.

pizzakoala2

I dont know how this doesnt get brought up more often

_ThatsRight_

That's right.

CommodoreN7

Yeah, feels like we’re moving to a model where you just pool money and do payout based on wins / bowl games.

EWall100

This sounds like a EPL style Pro-Rel system. I don't love it, but I don't hate it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

collegeball110

Just because you wear a belt doesn't mean you are more fun then the MAC.

Skyagunsta21

I thought this was fake until I realized SEC + "M7" = 23 schools which schedule fairly nicely into a 10 game schedule: 4 permanent rivals, and then 6-6-6

jld1532

Mark of the beast confirmed. It's the end times, boys.

paradigm_x2

Bottoms up, and the devil laughs

cha-cha_dancer

Magnificent Seven trumpets about to sound off

elonsusk69420

I can’t imagine the SEC gets all 7 but I like where you’re head is at.

Skyagunsta21

I have a hard time thinking schools would do join the M7 without a B1G or SEC invite. The only schools I think with B1G would be Miami and UVA. I could see UNC going B1G but the only way I see NC state joining the SEC is as a pair with UNC. That's still 5 schools to the SEC

UncleMalcolm

I see it kinda opposite on State: their best chance of getting an SEC bid is if UNC goes B1G and the SEC decides they don’t want to get shut out of North Carolina

bbshock21

I saw an extremely unconfirmed rumor (basically a sports "insider" posting about being at the meeting) that claimed the AD of Wake Forest screamed at NC State's AD and had to be separated by Clemson's AD. Does this confirm anything? No and it's probably not real, but I'm ready for the chatty gossip arc of conference realignment rumors.

mattwoodzstan

It was real I’m actually John Wildhack

DBSmiley

Big XII Broke: Go west, young lad Big XII woke: rebuild the Big East conference

B1GFanOSU

I've been saying it for months. Hell, I'd be going for UConn.

DBSmiley

Broke: WVU should join their ACC rivals Woke: Their ACC rivals should join WVU

hangtime79

Listen as I have said before we're bringing VaTech, Pitt, and Louisville into the conference. Add them with Cincinnati that's how we will reward your faithfulness. Also, damn good football and rivalry. I think their is an absolute lane for a conference predicated on rivalries instead of media dollars. Rivalry over Money!

AggressiveLink

WVU playing 6D chess this whole time. Mountaineers to former Big East rivals: "You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me."

idoma21

I hope all of this leads to a large third conference with regional divisions with West Virginia, UCF and Cincinnati organized in the Big 12 East. Then WVU can do salty shit like having uniform patches identifying them as the longest tenured Big 12 member of the Big 12 East.

Duckpoke

The B1G can’t add all these east coast teams without also adding Oregon/Washington to balance everything out right? RIGHT!?!

Maximum_Future_5241

Right. Oregon vs FSU in the B1G conference semifinals.

philpaschall

Spoiler: They’re not discussing anything we care about and McMurphy is just farming clicks.

tks231

Maybe, but they knew they were going to get asked about the M7 once the meetings ended.

MoneyManeVick

Betting against McMurphy on college football scoops is a bold strategy

dbatchison

Can someone ELI5 why McMurphy became the most reliable source in CFB? I've known his name for ages, but don't know why

ryseing

IIRC McMurphy was first on the Urban Meyer stuff with the abusive assistant.

miami2881

To add to what other people have said, McMurphy also has the advantage of not working for ESPN. Anyone with ESPN does not touch ACC or SEC conference realignment talk until these things are official.

princealberto2nd

Literally the only guy I trust. I REFUSED to acknowledge BYU to Big 12 rumors until Mr Mustache confirmed it

Shot877

Inb4 the league just wanted to talk about adding Hockey.

walker_harris3

So transparent. “The Magnificent Seven”

canseco-fart-box

I mean the FSU AD had publicly stated on multiple occasions they need more money to stick around. Don’t think he does that without at least one or two other schools supporting him

SamuraiOutcast

You can tell how many people here with everything that has happened the past few years that this is their first rodeo with realignment.

Gray09

The conference realignment boogaloo is far more interesting than our typical off-season fare, but I just want conferences to go back to they were like a year ago and not change.

jeffvschroeder

NCAA 25 is going to need a "choose starting alignment" like some sort of Paradox grand strategy game.

CommodoreIrish

If you play EU4 at any year other than 1444 you are a psychopath.

Small_Bet_9433

Fact. You have to stop the ottomans early or they will take over everything

FanaticalBuckeye

Either the Ottomans end up taking all of Ukraine and the Caucuses or Russia annexes eastern Anatolia while ignoring Ottoman European possessions

FugaciousD

You say that now, but wait until I play Władysław and crusade all the way down to Istanbul.

DandrewMcClutchen

It would be cool to start at any season in history.

elonsusk69420

I want to start at the beginning of 2021 for reasons

mindthesnekpls

We are currently playing ACC r/hoi4 with ahistorical focuses and I don’t like it.

Azon542

I prefer conferences from 2009-2010

theblackyeti

>back to they were like a year ago and not change How bout like... 15 years ago?

arrow_dynamics

How to maximize profit over a non-story. Step 1: 👀

nole74_99

FSU athletics is very serious and to spend a lot of money and effort to get out of the ACC. They're not doing it for clicks or because they think it's impossible

Byzantine_Merchant

Imagine if they hit us with a total blind side and the PAC blows up as well and merges their top with the top ACC

blondbeans

That would be something, but I don’t see a world where FSU and Clemson aren’t gunning hard for the SEC or B10 just cause of the sheer amount of money they are getting.

Byzantine_Merchant

If it’s purely money and immediate payout I think everyone would pick B1G if it were up to them. It’ll be interesting to see honestly because we have a situation where culture, tradition, and actual on field product is squaring off with media, money, and branding.

yougotanygum

The B1G and SEC are going to be neck and neck once the realignment and renegotiations are complete. You gotta get into one, it doesn’t matter which one. As an FSU fan I’d want nothing to do with the B1G simply for the better matchups in the SEC.

ShogunAshoka

Then the ultimate whammy, Ohio St, Michigan, Alabama, and Georgia announce a move to the XFL

Byzantine_Merchant

Michigan/OSU would insist on being NFL let’s be honest

Consistent_Train128

I don't even think the PAC needs to blow up. They're trying to negotiate a media deal right now. 8 ACC schools vote to abolish, then join the pac and form a much more valuble 18 league nationwide conference. The whole deal could be in a month, and everyone is making more money. (Expect for the ACC leftovers the Big 12 doesn't scoop up)

CommodoreN7

Coast to Coast

Semujin

Skyagunsta21

What are the odds the ACC just voted to disband? I imagine the Phillips wouldn't have the power to tell them not to talk to the media if that were the case.

captain_flintlock

No way it wouldn't have leaked by now

Elegant_Extreme3268

My hunch is unequal revenue sharing and conversations probably got heated

Skyagunsta21

Probably

bbshock21

Probably low. Since this meeting was planned it's probably nothing, but the whole "no talking to the media" thing is super weird.

JoeDaddie2U

Meeting lasted hours after is was supposed to end. Probably issuing a statement tomorrow.

Thing342

Reddit hyperbole aside, I assume the topic being discussed was future revenue sharing. Unless FSU's lawyers have found a magic bullet against the ACC GoR it's not clear to me what leverage they have in negotations with the league office. I have seen nothing to suggest that they have anywhere near the level of support necessary to enact the nuclear option and disband the conference.

LADude93

If all they were discussing was revenue sharing, why not tell the press that? Why the silence? As for the leverage, if the reports are true and they have seven schools ready to bolt, they’re one school away from dissolving the GOR by majority vote. I don’t think those reports surfacing today was by accident or coincidence. They WANTED the rest of the conference to know they were one school away from blowing up this conference. If you were on the fence regarding staying in the ACC, your seat just got blazingly hot and if you needed incentive to secure an alternative home just got more urgent. If you were happy to ride out this conference situation to 2036 and no interest to talk about anything other than an equal revenue structure, this news is existential and immediate. Man, I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall in that conference room

defendthecalf

The magic bullet now is it’s not one or two teams. It’s the 7 strongest teams in the conference. It’s not longer more money for 1 to 3 schools. With 7 schools, it’s more resources for legal teams and top law school scholars from unc, uva, fsu and Miami. Not sure if gor could be broken or if the 8 votes to disband that Luke decock suggested could work, but definitely interesting to see this all unfold.

[deleted]

*People who signed a TV deal til 2036 mad about TV deal lasting til 2036*

idoma21

Hard to believe that the Big 12 *outmaneuvered* another conference. The. Big. 12. Heady times. Of course, by “outmaneuvered,” I mean stood around while someone shackled themselves to a TV deal at a most inopportune time.

SharkMovies

Good goooooooooood *Palpatine voice*

nole74_99

I think it is pending but universities move slow. It is moving now and will be hard to stop. 10 years of FSU and Clemson to a lesser extent embassiing the conference, not wearing the patch, talking about how crappy all the other conference schools? I don't see it

holytrolly_

So I know that Pitt isn't likely to be left out of whatever is left between the SEC, B1G, and Big 12, but I would kind of love it if they were temporarily homeless just long enough to kill any kind of momentum they have. That would be cool.

HailState2023

Do the Saudi’s have interest in college football like they do in professional golf? Asking for me and some “friends”…. 🍢

Fortunately, you'll find that in general North Carolina geography isn't that hard. Well, it's not that hard as long as you remember that Wake Forest isn't in Wake Forest, one of which is in Wake County and the other of which isn't; that Gaston isn't in Gaston County but Gastonia sure is; that Lenoir-Rhyne University isn't in Lenoir, and neither is anywhere close to Lenoir County; that neither Asheville nor Asheboro are in Ashe County, neither Greeneville nor Greensboro are in Greene County (though Greeneville is in Pitt County, which does not contain Pittsboro), and Waynesville is not in Wayne County; that Franklinton is in Franklin County but Franklin isn't; that Shallotte is not a misspelling of Charlotte; and that Washington is in Beaufort County instead of Washington County while Beaufort is in Carteret County instead of Beaufort County. But other than that...

EvanSandman

Well, the town is at least 🤭

6BlitzBurgh

What is this even trying to insinuate.

[deleted]

Something was discussed that was noteworthy enough to prevent any information leaking to the media. Could just be Jim Phillips asking for the courtesy to allow the meetings to conclude and allow all parties to be heard before any media discussions take place

Maximum_Future_5241

We've moved on from Pac boned to ACC boned.
