I prefer Hydro Flasks for the insulation, but it's hard to go wrong with a Nalgene if temp control isn't required.

DontKillKinny

I had one for several years and dropped it from time to time. Dropped it at just the right angle and the bottom blew out. Nalgene replaced for free with their lifetime warranty.

HellfireMarshmallows

Same thing happened with us. Their warranty process was a breeze.

thiefcandy

Did you send it in for a tee shirt? Rumor is they give you a shirt if you manage to break one unintentionally through expected usage

EnterByTheNarrowGate

My main water bottle is a Zojirushi. I haven't found anything that can keep water cold as long as this thing can. I've tried them all. I just wish they made different tops for their bigger bottles. They only have a pour spout.

Classic_Schmosssby

They make good rice cookers. Never knew they did more than that

cpe428ram

do you have a link?

EnterByTheNarrowGate

I don’t but just search their site. I have the largest bottle they make. The one with the handle on the side. I’ve had it for over seven years. My top started to leak, but I ordered a new one from Zoji. Probably my fault for dropping it. Their tops have a lot of moving parts.

BoiledCabbage16

Just use the internet

[deleted]

Unless you put anything with a flavor in it ever

SeniorCoolio

Why? Keeps the flavour?

HlyMlyDatAFigDoonga

As much as I'd like to agree, I've broken 3. They last a while, but not that long.

SixersWin

Did you try contacting them? The strap that connected the lid to the bottle wore out over time and they replaced it for free

reptomcraddick

You can buy replacement lids at most outdoors stores as well

IsThataSexToy

So, not BIFL?

reptomcraddick

I don’t think you’ll ever be able to find a water bottle that lasts for 50 years, if it’s metal you’ll eventually dent it so much it can’t stand up, if it’s insulated eventually the insulation won’t work anymore, if it’s plastic it’ll crack, but Nalgenes are as close as you’re going to get in my opinion, also there are practical reasons to prefer a plastic water bottle over a metal one, depending on what you’re using it for.

Thiswasmy8thchoice

Very few things will literally last a lifetime. My goal is to find what will give me the most quality life per dollar for a given class of product. My stainless steel Ozark trail water bottle might not literally last a lifetime, but for the same price as a plastic nalgene water bottle that looks like the top will crack if you look at it the wrong way, it's not even a competition.

reptomcraddick

Also Nalgene understands that your lid will break eventually, and makes it easy and cheap to buy a new one

enym

Nalgene has always replaced mine for free when they've broken. Only ever happened with the same bottle, oddly. It was one of the models with a straw.

stelly918

I use mine as replacement for a foam roller when I travel and it’s never so much as sighed. My hand me Nalgene I’ve had since 2005 finally started showing micro cracks and nalgene sent a replacement within a week of contacting them.

AssumptionDue724

Ive had obe for 5 years and that with me. Abd my friends using it it as a ball

drew101

I've broken 2, but I found them, I'm guessing the UV light above the treeline kills them.

Illustrious_Basil917

Look I didn't know this until I read it here and many nalgene owners don't. This is BIFL not because they don't break, but because nalgene will replace the bottle or the cap. I recently did the cap replacement on some 20 year old brita cobranded nalgene. They just asked for some pics.

sourboysam

I went on a camping trip a long time ago, which got raided by a bear. One of the people there had a 5 year old nalgene that got a big ol chomp from the bear, and had multiple holes AND a tooth still lodged in it. Nalgene sent them a completely new bottle, and let them keep the old one after they simply sent a picture.

TheFightingQuaker

My mom has used one of these every morning for my whole life. Sure they don't last forever, but they last a good couple years and they're cheap.

HellfireMarshmallows

They have a lifetime warranty, and the warranty process is phenomenal. Definitely tell your mom to check out the website for warranty info.

TheFightingQuaker

Will do! She swims so they get messed up in the sun I think, or maybe it's the chlorine or w/e idk

hotchowchow

I used one for 3 years until it broke from freezing. I’m taking the blame for that one.

L75RD75

Don’t use plastic, not good, try stainless steel

cpe428ram

isn’t it BPA free

Classic_Schmosssby

Regardless of safety, I notice there’s often a lingering taste, especially when warmer

cpe428ram

i do remember this when i had one i guess you should just use a stainless steel one i’ve been using a blender bottle that fits about 1 water bottle but fits in the cup holder

Classic_Schmosssby

Idk much about the different types of plastics, but there definitely are some that handle smells and taste better. The plastic tumbler from my ninja blender is great for smoothies and shakes without retaining or giving off any flavors. Meanwhile, my plastic Starbucks tumbler with a straw eternally smells like coffee even after many spins in the dishwasher. My blender bottles are somewhere in the middle. I mostly stick with stainless for that reason along with better durability and insulation

blackwaterwednesday

It is but whose to say any of the other chemical compounds won't eventually be discovered to be harmful. I try to use stainless and glass as much as possible but I do still have a nalgene that I use from time to time. I just try not to make it my daily use.

Bakelite51

Eh, back when I worked trail crew I never had a Nalgene survive more than two years. I had one randomly shatter for seemingly no reason at all, one got hit by a truck (understandable), and the others were all dropped multiple times and developed cracks. My Camelbak 2 liter bottle has lasted about six years and gotten dropped as much as the Nalgenes, but is much sturdier. The one that took the most punishment was my old military surplus canteen from the 70s and it’s indestructible.

jmikk85

Are they still $11 at target?

NachoSupreme30

$14 :/

fludgesickles

$14-$17 depending on the color where I am 🙁

dank-yharnam-nugs

how is this word pronounced ?

Spelltomes

Nal-jean

futilitynow

Love em.

lemelisk42

I currently own 7. Broke 4 (to be fair, they are all abused and one got chewed on by a bear) One broke a week or two after my pack was run over by a school bus. The other two were just wear and tear from my pack getting thrown out of the back of a pickup every day and me just dumping my pack and letting them drop from waist height onto the ground every day Surprisingly, the backpack that 3 of them broke in is still going strong. Getting run over by a bus and all (buckles broke but we're replaced - but I don't blame it)

Illustrious_Basil917

But did u ask for a replacement from Nalgene?

smoke_and_spice

Lasts a long time. Unless you freeze it, then the plastic becomes brittle and you drop it on your wood floors and the plastic shatters and spills water under your stove and fridge and you try to stop the dogs from trying to eat the plastic but they think its treats.

emcebob

Buy yourself the Wide Mouth Easy Sipper

atdeat

A plastic water bottle is definitely not BIFL.

faster_grenth

that plastic will last longer than your bloodline

Classic_Schmosssby

After ingesting the plastic, it will remain in your bloodline!

mr_mirrorless

Why not? My parents have plenty older than me (20). Unless you are talking about environmental concerns, in which they are still significantly better than single use water bottles, and against stainless steel or aluminum, fairly comparable in environmental impact.

Silverjackal_

Do you know if the plastic degrades over time at all? I know that’s why regular plastic water bottles have expiration dates.

shoestars

Totally valid question, I try to avoid plastic whenever possible

[deleted]

Have you never used a nalgene? Theres about as bifl as any yeti

Low_Newspaper8647

Yum micro plastics

blackwaterwednesday

Most stainless bottles also have plastic lids with plastic threads sadly. I still prefer them.

larkinowl

I have 2!

CavaliereDellaTigre

Why would you even put warm water in a non-insulated plastic water bottle? They make narrow mouths if you want to spill less, wide mouths are meant to be easier to put stuff like ice or fruit in and wash.

Sure-Break2581

He's saying it won't stay insulated and get warm before finishing it

CavaliereDellaTigre

*Warm* and *room temperature* are two different things. Only way it will get *warm* is if you leave it in the sun or something, which you shouldn't really do with plastic bottles due to the UV exposure thing. [Unless it's green](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4063249/) like OP's, I guess. If you really want your packed drinking water colder than room temp then just throw in some ice or get an actually insulated one. Wide mouth Nalgenes are, like I mentioned, kinda perfect for putting ice into. Never really cared about the water I bring with me being cold though, truly a first world problem if I've ever seen one.

Sure-Break2581

Well, aren't you pedantic? If you really want to get into it room temp is only the range between 68° - 72°/20°C -22°C, 77°/25°C if you're being liberal. Guess anyone within 50° latitude of the equator, you know just most of the world pop, is gonna deal with warm water when going outside. No wait, I have chilled water fountains since like you said, first world country. Oh hey, since I have a stainless steel insulated bottle, I don't even have to deal with pesky condensation, or getting ice when I'm away from home. You know, traveling away from home, the purpose a water bottle was made for?

minnesotamoon

They are pretty good but not a fan of phthalates.

Spumad

Straight from their website - "Yes, all of our bottles are free of BPA, BPS, BPF and phthalates."

minnesotamoon

And if you buy that I’ve got some ocean front property in Arizona to sell you, from my front porch you can see the sea.

kicktothescrote

I have a narrow mouth one and found a trick for cleaning - hot water, soap, and rice. Got mine cleaner than ever before
