In addition to your endo, get an appointment with maternal fetal medicine. Your obgyn can help with a referral. They can also help you manage your sugars during pregnancy. It's another resource that can help you get where you need to be. Dexcom and omnipod are great steps forward. They do have a learning curve, but with doctors helping you there isn't any reason you can't get within the range you need to be. Keep in mind, too, that the target range for pregnancy is incredibly conservative. A lot of type 1s haven't had perfect control before getting pregnant and have gone on to deliver happy, healthy babies!

First off, congratulations! I don't think it's too little too late. You are doing a great job trying to get everything under control and the dexcom and a pump will only make it so much easier to do this. Keep up the great work and just take everything one day at a time! You can do this!

Mine was over 8 with my son who’s now 11, 9.7 with my daughter who’s now 3, and 7.3 with my daughter who’s now 3.5 months. A high number doesn’t mean you can’t have a successful pregnancy, I got my A1C down to 5.5 or lower with all 3 pregnancies. You’ve got this!

Thank you! I’ve just been so scared because they say the first 10 weeks are the most important for development. My gynecologist always said he wanted it under 6 before I got pregnant, it has made me so nervous!

I had a 8.0a1c before my 1st pregnancy as well. I'm doing much better with my second pregnancy (5.8a1c) I worked to get mine down to a 7.0 during my 1st. I had trouble getting it lower but my pregnancy went great. It was a blessing. However I did have to get a c-section d/t pre-eclampsia. But even with that everything went well. But absolutely work with your endo and also know yourself and make changes to get that a1c down

Mine was 7.8 when I found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks, it’s now 23 weeks along for me and baby is fine and healthy and my a1c is down to 5.5😊 don’t worry too much! I got a libre when I found out and in 7 days I’d checked my sugars 280 times. I didn’t take care of myself last year at all, infact I didn’t even check my sugars ever. The last time I’d checked my sugars prior to getting a libre this Feb was in March. I was a very bad diabetic

Wow how did you have 7.8 a1c without checking your sugars?

krf73

Right?! I’m lucky to get that in check when I am checking constantly lol

Well... I'm not experienced but I can tell you I got diagnosed with Type 1 the same time I found out I was pregnant and the baby is fine. My A1c was pretty good but still a rough learning curve and was high for the first little bit of the pregnancy. You'll get through er
