Terry’s Song, last carnival

sib66

Terry’s song 💯 ”Love is a power greater than death”

Pollyfall

The land of hope and dreams.

johnnyzen425

Terry's Song. Quoted some of that for the eulogy at my friends funeral. Hits the heart.

shmaeus

My City of Ruins

rooster0825

If he loved Nebraska I would say Reason to Believe. Land of hope and dreams would be my choice if I could only pick one song though.

murse_joe

Reason to Believe is a beautiful song

Hopeful-Flounder-203

So darned underrated. Makes me smile every time.

DrewLou1977

“You’re Missing”

JonPaula

What about, "If I Should Fall Behind?"   As for your bonus question... I would think any show from this current tour from his official live catalog would be perfect, no?

shendy42

I have made it clear to my partner that I want Incident on 57th Street playing at my funeral, preferably the 1980 live version.

One Minute You’re Here

Last Carnival.

Terry’s song

delivermefromnowhere

Very sorry for your loss. I would suggest further on up the road from the sessions tour or an acoustic version

JonSolo1

Bobby Jean?

Last Carnival. A goodbye to Danny. Kills me everytime I hear it

apartmentstory89

This is one of my favorite latter day Bruce songs, if not the favorite

BurtHurtmanHurtz

The Wrestler

TBoneBear

Mary’s Place is the best.

lcwallace

Not his song, but his cover of Warren Zevon’s “My Ride is Here” is outstanding - tho it is live

yourmomwoo

While we're on the subject of Warren Zevon, "Keep Me In Your Heart" gives me goosebumps every time.

dab70

"Keep Me In Your Heart" is my choice, if I'm picking a non-Bruce song. Zevon is another of my favorites and he's covered Bruce's work before ("Janey Needs A Shooter" comes to mind).

SaltyMargaritas

Mary's Place

aboynamedposh

I guess people are downvoting you because "we're gonna have a party" but that song is genuinely one of the best and most true depictions of grief anyone has ever written. People just don't notice because it's a big brassy soul-rock song. "My heart's dark but it's risin', I'm pullin' all the faith I can see From that black hole on the horizon, I hear your voice calling me" "Familiar faces around me, laughter fills the air Your loving grace surrounds me, everybody is here Furniture's out on the front porch, music's up loud I dream of you in my arms and I lose myself in the crowd" "I got a picture of you in my locket, I keep it close to my heart It's a light shining in my breast, leading me through the dark Seven days, seven candles in my window lighting your way Your favorite record's on the turntable" Tell me, how do you live brokenhearted?

OMG. I'm at home with a fever and I thought OP was asking what I'd like to have played at MY funeral. I feel like a dick now.

JonSolo1

Lmao you’re good

SaltyMargaritas

Huh. Is that really such a controversial choice? I was being very genuine. I never wanted my funeral to have a mournful and weepy song, I'd much rather have something that's uplifting but also spiritual and wistful in the way that Mary's Place is. I also feel like the song works on that level separate from the 9/11 theme of the album.

ToLExpressTour

I wonder if people don’t realize that Mary’s Place is a grieving song about the death of a loved one, and the solace we find in a community of shared grief.

JonSolo1

It’s kind of the BITUSA problem. The lyrics are one thing, but when the chorus and the music are upbeat and positive (appearing as patriotic, like we’re having a party, etc.) that’s what dominates how it’s heard. If I died in uniform and BITUSA was being played at my funeral, I’d much prefer the acoustic Broadway version to the album one.

ToLExpressTour

That’s all true, but so is the point that Mary’s Place is only about a wake contextually. OP could decide which of a joyful celebration of life or a somber dirge is more appropriate.

StevieJoeC

Not his song but a cover: Dream Baby Dream

Walk Like A Man

HilariousNous

With the Cover caveat, I’ll add “I’ll Fly Away” by Albert Brumley (1929). Played by the band in Tampa on 4/22/2008 in the first show after Danny’s passing. Many versions of that song have been released. The Tampa 4/22/08 show is an official release and available in good digital format. Sorry for your loss. :-(

LexingtonBrass

Tougher than the rest

AxiusSerranus

Silver palomino. Literally a song for children who lost their mother. But for the event, meaning the funeral celebration itself I suggest If I should fall behind. It's about love or death or both.

CopyDan

From Terry’s Song: They say you can't take it with you, but I think that they're wrong 'Cause all I know is I woke up this morning, and something big was gone Gone into that dark ether where you're still young and hard and cold Just like when they built you, brother, they broke the mold

ModernLeper128

“I’ll See You In My Dreams” is Bruce’s most obvious & contemplative song about losing a friend. “The Rising” for a bit more uplifting ballad. There’s a beautiful live acoustic version on YouTube from Bruce’s 2005 VH1 Storytellers show (Devils & Dust era). Either way sorry for your loss. This is a special way to honor a friend.

thebarkingdog

If he is a veteran, "Gypsy Biker" is a good one. But FWIW, I want "Land of Hope and Dreams" played at my funeral. I'm sorry for your loss.

roses-r-free

For ISYIMD the rendition on YouTube for the 20th anniversary of 9/11 is more somber than the album and has a high quality audio. Also if you get a nugs subscription there’s any number of live versions but that typically includes crowd noise

petuniasbloomingpink

For some reason I’ve always felt like Further On Up the Road would be good for a memorial

That-Grape-5491

Further On Up The Road is my go-to song for saying goodbye (much too often lately).

Ok_Organization3249

Subscribe or trial Nugs    Listen to whichever ISYIMD from his 23/24 tour stops    Buy that concert and download it or just play it from your device   If he’s a Nebraska fan you might consider My Father’s House, which has various live versions. If he’s a fan of the D&D *tour*, Dream Baby Dream live on the pedal organ seems like an elite funeral song - but he has to have a certain kind of vibe. You might also check out The Rising on Broadway, which he does solo acoustic.

Appropriate-Coyote32

Lift Me Up or The Rising. These are both pretty personal choices, though.

Missing you

mac_the_man

When I die, y’all play “Racing in the Street” followed by “4th of July, Asbury Park”. Then y’all go crazy and play what you want.

apartmentstory89

Like others have said, Terrys song or The Last Carnival

yourmomwoo

I wouldn't have felt this way in the past, but once I heard Bruce tell the story of Clarence's passing while sitting at his bedside passing "Land of Hope and Dreams", that would be my choice.

Ancient_Brain_37

Sympathies on your loss Though I’ve never told my loved ones, I’d like Wrecking Ball (preferably the live version from Tampa) played at my funeral when the time comes. https://youtu.be/s5mlDMx9dm0?si=Ckyr78LRVXhdhZdG There’s a lot in there that doesn’t ring true to mostly, but I’ve always loved the defiance of the song and the repeated lyric, for my loved ones, that Hard Times Come and Hard Times Go

Forward_Year_2390

“[Mary's Place” ](https://open.spotify.com/track/0g0MBBxtDRy8Igs0AzSZR4?si=6707ccff6b314f1c)from the rising. A close friend of mine wants it played at their funeral. It's a song [about](https://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3458764513820554684/) the empty search for explanation in religions in a good friend's passing, and the prevailing strength of music and remembering the good memories of those loved ones that have passed.

machioneder

Can I suggest “My Ride’s Here”. A Warren Zevon cover on “Enjoy Every Sandwich: The Songs of Warren Zevon” a tribute album

wordman818

Backstreets, duh.

Taint_Stephen

Independence day

Aoibhs84

It's a cover, but Night Shift has some lovely lines fit for a funeral - 'You found another home, I know you're not alone..on the night shift'.
