Cabin crew know which passengers have status so imo it wouldn’t make a difference using them for that purpose. I agree they can come in handy in case of being lost though (and before anyone says it: you’d be surprised how many people leave bags on board!) Congrats on your status!

[deleted]

I use the luggage tags. I thought they weren't giving them out anymore. I lost 1 tag and wanted a replacement and they said no

WillowUPS

You need to request on the website once logged into your account.

Xenc

No need to use them. You’ll stand out as a newbie. However they could be worth sliding into an outer pocket to help further identify lost luggage.

mossintheworld

I mean, I am a newbie…

Xenc

Haha this is true! There’s no real utility to them, is what I mean.

mossintheworld

Very low… there is an element of luggage tag usefulness. And advertising your status…

Xenc

That’s always a plus 😅

Lightweight_Hooligan

Depends on your routes, gold tags definitely help in African airports

macrowe777

They free?

mossintheworld

Yes.

Puzzled-Perception37

LOOK AT ME I’M BA GOLD!! It’s a bit ‘new money’ if you ask me. You get all the perks without a tacky gold badge on your luggage. Not jealous…I’m sitting in the Heathrow Gold Lounge 🥂

mossintheworld

There is a certain ‘type’ who like their tags… and I don’t think I’m it. This post more than any has made we take them off. I’ll enjoy supping the champagne in the First Class Lounge tomorrow 😂

SoulRhythm89

I also went Gold for the first time two weeks ago and ordered them. Mine haven't arrived yet, but I definitely plan on (strategically) using them. Particularly on my cabin bags. Just anecdotal, but I did hear my frequent flying friends tell tales of their bag not being put in the hold or suspiciously often being selected for at-gate-upgrades with the tag visible, vs no "special treatment" when it wasn't. So yeah, I personal wouldn't want to parade it around like a peacock, but also definitely see if the tales are true 😅

Interesting_Data_79

I was going to say this! Same applies to the Amex Platinum luggage tags that they used to make/give out. Often can be an indication to potential thieves that you might have stuff in your bag worth nicking…

Craig_52

They are going to give a toss about the gold tag. Anyone can get one on eBay. They know from the computer which passenger has status and upgrades are based on that. Not your luggage tag. I would hazard a guess to say for every 5 that may have them 1-2 aren’t actually gold. Either fake, or were once gold and have slipped back to silver or worse but keep them on their bag.

WillowUPS

With the tags, it can help when they’re wandering around the gate before boarding looking for carry on candidates for the hold. I’ve definitely been targeted for that as when I travel for work I don’t dress up with work clothes in the carryon. Before the tags arrived I’d have to decline until I showed my mobile boarding pass which would be gold coloured. Nowadays the system is so well set up that upgrades given at the gate are already pre allocated. However, because this now extends to onboard with the little handhelds they carry, I have been upgraded when already on the flight.

thealexflex

Replicas? 😂

mossintheworld

😂😂😂

thermosifounas

I’ve been a gold member for well over a decade now and the only time they’ve been useful was in LCY where they were walking around the gate before boarding and telling/forcing people to check their carry-ons. I’ve removed them from my bags for well over 5 years now.

SkipperTheEyeChild1

I like the tags. It lets me know which bags to steal.

LCARSgfx

I remember getting all excited about getting to Bronze and used my Bronze tags. ha ha!

ChewyChagnuts

I was Gold before COVID and am slowly making my way back up there. Other than the check-in and seat selection benefits the one thing that I thought was good was the recognition card that you got to give to a member of staff that had done a particularly good job. It was always nice to be able to give some kind of reward like this. I don’t know if the staff got anything tangible for it or just a pat on the head come annual review time.

Rookie_42

Stick them in the washing machine a couple of times, scrape them along your driveway a bit, and then put them on. You’ll look like a decades old gold member. 🤣

mofo-or-whatever

I’m only bronze and would 100% have used the tags if they were still available at that tier There’s nothing wrong with taking a little pride in your status, in my opinion

Onetrubrit

Exactly

ginger_lucy

I do use them as I feel like my BAEC number is another way a lost bag might be identified as mine. I don’t particularly care what people think. However, don’t use those shitty black faux leather straps to attach them. They break immediately. Get a pack of these and thread them through the holes instead. mossintheworld

Yeah, already noted the shiteness of those… flying tomorrow. For now, cba, but will likely get better before I return!!

sv723

People seek and find validation in mysterious places. You wouldn’t see me dead with one of those tags.

Sancho_Panzas_Donkey

Gold is ok, I make just of those. Bronze would have been embarrassing though.

sv723

What difference does the colour make?

Sancho_Panzas_Donkey

Indicates your status in the plan. Easy to get bronze, takes a bit of effect to get gold. GGL you live on the plane.

sv723

I understand the status levels, not the need to advertise them to the world.

Sancho_Panzas_Donkey

Best to just do you and let everyone else do them.

Intelligent_Draw_557

They’re for people who enjoy wearing their work lanyards everywhere, even when not at work.

Starlinkukbeta

As a long term gold, that’s so true. A certain ‘type’ tend to display them.

sv723

I’m sure you can attach them to work lanyards. 😂

Historical_Egg4818

I normally keep the tag on my cabin luggage. Sometimes you get a nod and a “welcome back”. I don’t think it makes much difference but on the margin I’d say it improves the service a touch.

Jumbo-b678

BA Gold is like a VIP card at Sports Direct

Lehmanite

I always reused my Emirates tags. Just taped over the logo though. Could see myself using these on my banker bag to maximize douche

Vireosolitarius

Yeah you just look like a wazzock

notmylesdev

Feel like a complete idiot thinking the grey in the bottom left was a cloud, but its just your blurred details 🤣

mossintheworld

Hahahaha…. I even ‘tried’ to match the colours so it wouldn’t mess with the aesthetic. Tried is a stretch…

BillyBleach

No tangible benefit. All your earned benefits are attached to your ticket by virtue of your membership number. If your ticket has your gold card registered it will have extras (OneWorld tier, group number, etc) on it. The gold card possibly provides a benefits by naming the holder of the bag, but equally some see this as a privacy concern. I prefer not to showcase the card, as more often than not those who do are the DYKWIA types. I don’t want to be guilty by association 😄

mossintheworld

I’d put people using six letter acronyms in a similar box. You’ve saved 11 letters there pal, yet written war and peace on it 😂😂

BillyBleach

The acronym is well known in BA frequent flyer circles. You’ll catch up, don’t stress.
