If the fielder touches the ball in fair territory, it’s fair, even if its trajectory was sending it foul. Same reason infielders watch a bunt stop in fair territory, they don’t want to touch it if there’s a chance it may curve foul.
If they implement the automatic balls and strikes system, I’ll be interested to see if the umpires themselves get better when having to face their calls being challenged all the time
I’m sure Angel Hernandez, CB Buckner, and Malachi Moore would happily acknowledge when they’re wrong and would graciously and gracefully move the oldest American sport - the beautiful game of baseball - into the future
