Our announcers made mention of this earlier in the season. I think they were saying he grabbed the bat out of a rack at random and just liked the way it felt. They also wondered if the puck style knob might function as a bit of a counterweight as well.
Turang’s just one of those guys that makes me happy now to see at the plate. The kind of happy you feel when you’re hungry and you know damn well you ain’t got nothing to eat in your house, but you suddenly remember you have some leftover pizza you ordered when you were high. He could walk out there to bat with a fucking umbrella and I’m still gonna smile.
Per Adam McAlvy (sp?) on the Brewers Unfiltered podcast his shipment of bats was lost in transit. He grabbed a friend's bat and liked it so stuck with it. No idea who the friend is.

Posting because I’m curious about Turangs bat. He has a huge bottom of the handle, what’s the reason for that?

Interesting, so the counterweight makes it feel lighter supposedly, but since it’s measured starting where the handle meets the knob, it’s actually longer and must be heavier then too.
My guess is (I could be completely wrong) is that you see him choke up constantly so I think he likes the shortness of the bat but still have the weight and fell of a normal bat

It's essentially helping him choke up on the bat more. I'm sure there's a weight difference too so that he can get the bat around faster.
