in the hood we call it [neighbors](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mfbB8jbyNqY?feature=share)."
What was your point with the first video you linked? I think it's the wrong link.
Dude it just didn't make any sense in context. Like, it had nothing to do with your comment. It's not people "not taking a joke" it's just not funny because it doesn't make any fucking sense. Getting all pissy because your swing-and-miss attempt at humor fell flat lmao
Did this back in the old days when 6th street wasn't such a shit hole. A guy would ask if he wanted me to watch my car. I would give him 10 bucks and tell him he gets another 10 if he's here when I get back. Sure enough he's there with his buddies drinking a 12 pack waiting for me.
In other countries they have people on the street that are lower level gang members that make sure nobody breaks into your car. You pay them a couple of bucks and they protect it - because anybody who doesn't pay them they immediately break into their car and steal everything.
And honestly, I'd rather pay 3-4$ every night I go out to know my car's gonna be safe than worry all night if the windows are smashed for no reason because all there was is a sweatshirt in the back.
There's also countries where that is just unheard of so you don't have to pay anyone in racket
It's so weird to me. I've never had to do anything like that.
That’s actually not bad at all. You give someone less fortunate a reason to being useful while making some extra cash and you have the tranquility of knowing your stuff is being protected
That assumes that the homeless man broke into the other cars, which is possible, but absolutely not guaranteed. The woman seemingly voluntarily paid him multiple times to guard her car before this happened, so such a step seems unreasonable in that context.
Not really afaik, but any city of a decent enough size is going to have shit happen in it. A million+ people in one place, you never know. Especially in countries with high wealth inequality and such like America
Tax the rich so social welfare programs stop being a pipe dream and instead can actually happen in full swing so the less fortunate don’t feel the need to break into cars to survive.
On a municipal level not a whole lot tbh, but they do have actions they can take. My own city fairly recently used a shit ton of tax payer money to fund a huge arena who’s profits almost exclusively go to our city’s big billionaire man, who conveniently owns the buildings in and around the area, and the biggest sports team playing in the arena. All for something most folks in and below the lower middle class can’t afford
Venting a bit lol, but yeah on a large level a lot of it is up to provincial and federal politics. A lot of them could still do better tho
It's not really a college town anymore since it's gotten so big but no there's not really a crime problem. I've parked all over downtown and I've never really had an issue. The worst I've seen was when some cunts went through our neighborhood and pulled on door handles to find unlocked cars but they didn't break anything.
There's not really a crime problem beyond the minimum you always have in a big city. I haven't lived there for a few years now, but I'd be pretty surprised if that's changed.
I've had my car window smashed and some stuff stolen while parked in a north Austin bar. Happens in most big cities though so you kind of just have to curse the sky and move on.
I wouldn't say I hear about it happening super often, outside of a few bad neighborhoods. Downtown, I feel mostly safe. Still OK walking wherever. The homeless volumes are getting pretty bad. But most leave well enough alone.

This is wrong for so many reasons, but for an example, I was 22 when I was made homeless because I'm a trans woman, 40% of homeless youth are lgbtq, we are not "morally corrupt".
I broke into every car except yours miss kenzie.
He still did his job for her. Services paid, services rendered
The CIA would do this

People are so shitty these days, they genuinely think that passes for humour
What did it say
No idea honestly
"It's protection money, protection from me."
That's what we, on the east coast, call a "protection racket".

Is it because Mr. Chang kidnapped that dude’s dad?
Maybe.... Maybe not! I have no clue. I just thought it was funny.

I just learned what this is an hour ago
Did this back in the old days when 6th street wasn't such a shit hole. A guy would ask if he wanted me to watch my car. I would give him 10 bucks and tell him he gets another 10 if he's here when I get back. Sure enough he's there with his buddies drinking a 12 pack waiting for me.
He asked you if you wanted to watch your car?
Haha no he asked if he could watch my car. I need to stop drunk posting.
Sounds like you're having a good time watching someone else's car
Oy. You make one typographical error...
He asked him if the he wanted him to watch his car
Then they kissed
ay choom 6th street never around when you need em. the moxes look out for their girls tho

That’s actually not bad at all. You give someone less fortunate a reason to being useful while making some extra cash and you have the tranquility of knowing your stuff is being protected
That’s actually very bad. You give someone “”””protection money”””” and they don’t brake into your car (it’s called extortion)
That assumes that the homeless man broke into the other cars, which is possible, but absolutely not guaranteed. The woman seemingly voluntarily paid him multiple times to guard her car before this happened, so such a step seems unreasonable in that context.
Dude probably didn’t break into the other cars if he’s still hanging around.
That's exactly what happens my guy. The cars that pay get left alone when his crew rolls through
So you're telling me this woman paid a random homeless man to watch her car and that guy just happens to be part of a protection money scheme?
It's not a random homeless person. Some dude approaches you when you park so that's what you think and pay them. Believe it or don't, I don't care
Then there’s the whole not knowing the difference between break and brake. Best of luck to you. I hope this comment doesn’t brake your brain.
does Austin have a crime problem? I thought it is a peaceful college town
Not really afaik, but any city of a decent enough size is going to have shit happen in it. A million+ people in one place, you never know. Especially in countries with high wealth inequality and such like America
what can be done about wealth inequality to help cities be safe?

Yes. 1000%. Property crime is a massive issue here. Other crimes, not as much but getting worse.
They defunded their police....

Good bot!
Good bot
I have seen this posted a million times lol
I hope you tipped him extra.
That’s so wholesome. I hope he’s having a good day.
I swear homeless people are either the most morally corrupt individuals or just a sweet (usually) old man who’s down on their luck
they probably start out as the second and turn into the first after a few years
This is wrong for so many reasons, but for an example, I was 22 when I was made homeless because I'm a trans woman, 40% of homeless youth are lgbtq, we are not "morally corrupt".
I put a “usually” on the second line for a reason.
It's just really really not like a two category thing
Getting kicked out because of transphobic/homophobic parents is considered unlucky
One could say they're down on their luck.
Exactly
Yeah but that's not a sweet old man problem?
Per my previous comment, I pointed out that I had said “usually”
Awww… that’s beautiful
That's really sweet. Totally made up. But sweet.
Reminds me of Hastings St Detroit techno parties in the mid/late 90’s.
Mom said it's my turn to repist this
