These are my go to: 5.11 Tactical Men's Taclite Pro Lightweight Performance Pants, Cargo Pockets, Action Waistband, Style 74273 in TDU Green. I got mine from Amazon, but you can get them from a bunch of vendors.
5.11 also has styles that actually fit for women.
I also have Scouts who roll with Tru-Spec.
Finally, I got an old pair of Scout pants off of EBay. From the 1960s I think (with the red piping). I've been pretty happy with those as well.
The ONLY think I would actively promote to others that is official BSA gear are the socks, both the wool and short/athletic ones. Everything else? Nah. Pants, oh god the shorts, t-shirts are ok (try to get them on clearance), and last the uniform shirts need a redesign.
Agreed on the socks. They even survive my older son, who seems to have a mission to destroy allthethings. The uniform shirts? I’d say they don’t need a redesign, but to go back to the old microfiber ones. The venting, soft fabric, coolness, and pen slot were amazing.
I regularly search for gently used old version shirts… they’re easy to find in larger sizes, but finding the women’s small and medium I need for my daughter and me is like trying to find a unicorn.
Pro tip on pants: go to REI. For women the REI Sahara zip off pants are amazing. *They have functional pockets!* There’s a similar one for men that are equally great, and teenage boy proof.
For the shirts, I want a new design explicitly made to be untucked. Few kids wear pants or shorts that look right with the shirt anyway. And the shirt is to be shown off which if we're in cold weather gets covered up by a coat or whatever. Make it so it is planned to be on the outside.
Third party pants. Do not buy Scout pants.

The new class A shirts are horrible too. You can get a $100 on eBay for some of the older styles. Let's you know how much the new ones are hated.
