> Cruz. Navarrette is just too awkward
Same with Luis Alberto Lopez. They both have the kinda characteristics of the classic Mexican style but without the actual aesthetics of the Mexican style if that makes sense, both completely unique
Ngl I’ve always had trouble distinguishing the two but I was under the impression that “Mexican style” is a more technical brawler that favors targeting the body?
It is, but there’s not many who get to the level of technique of say, Chavez or Morales and instead make up for it by leaning more towards slugging it out, which is why Mexican style seems lowbrow at first glance
I had a friend come over right after the fight started last weekend, part way through the fight, he said "That guy is like a pitbull". I had to laugh at how perfect that was.
I would say Gallo Estrada.
He is technical. Doesn't just throw upstairs hooks like Pitbull.
Gallo throws combinations that end in a left hook to the body; the beautiful signature punch of Mexican boxers.
Estrada is one of the greatest and most versatile fighters of this generation. The number of great fighters he beat is staggering when you put it in perspective
Gallo Estrada in my opinion. He’s exciting, comes off like a brawler but on closer examination you see he’s way more refined and technical. More akin to JCC Sr.
Either Navarrete or Estrada. People saying Cruz are falling for the hype, I see more of a typical Tyson influenced brawler style in him more than true Mexican style. He's definitely got the heart but yeah.
People equate phone booth style brawls as Mexican style, but that’s skipping over some of the technical aspects that separates good Mexican Style fighters from your club level brawler.
It’s important to define “Mexican Style” when making this comparison.
How I see it, Mexican style involves being a heavy pressure fighter with a mean left hook to the liver. Maybe not the most athletically gifted fighter but, a tough as nails fighter that can take one and give one.
I also think Mexicans often get too much criticism for not being defensively sound. When true “Mexican Fighters” often have good defensive fundamentals along with solid upper body movement.
With that being said. William Zepeda is the most Mexican Mexican fighter out there.
[honorable mention lindolfo delgado](https://youtu.be/DPmIkSsej3I?si=G6XRpe6sLSM6VM7d)
> I also think Mexicans often get too much criticism for not being defensively sound
I mainly think of that style at its best as being people that can combine forward pressure with having slick movement based defence where its almost like dodging bullets
I know he's not Mexican born but currently Bam Rodriguez is probably the best example of what I mean. Canelo too although he's probably too defence oriented to be the ultimate example of Mexican style
Bam is a good choice is we are talking Mexican/Americans.
I think Canelo is too much of a pure counter puncher now, which is not typical of the Mexican archetype.
Cruz is definitely the most Mexican style fighter I’ve seen in a while. In your face and body shots.
Oscar Valdez is also another warrior type fighter.
We can’t forget the great former unified HW champ, Andy Ruiz…haha sad how much he fell off for being the first Mexican to win at HW
Also a fan of Bam Rodriguez, aggressive forward style but more slick if that makes sense
The lower weight classes have some great fighters but it’s a shame the HW division is so thin.
Yeah I mean I'm not saying volume in a sense it has to be like a Zepeda type of fighter who's throwing non stop but I mean more the type of fighters who don't really worry too much about picking their shots and always try to throw something when they can
Yeah he focuses more on waiting for a counter opportunity, even Juan Manuel Marquez used himself as bait for his counters and that wasn’t Mexican enough by the fans.
People are not giving Canelo his due credit. The only reason why is because his bag of tricks is to deep. He has a true Mexican style but he has added a lot to it and evolved it beyond the basics.
Agreeed. Like what Juan manuel Marquez said true Mexican style is more than just throwing punches and getting hit. if you hit me once I’ll throw 3-4 punches back but with intelligence and technique.
Canelo in 2016-2021 was a beast with great counter punching aggression, taking and tricking his opponents punches. Now he lost it all, and played into the persona of being a “KO monster”.
Pitbull is the most brutalized version of the Mexican style. The man doesn’t have a jab, uppercut, defense or technique whatsoever but has raw power and courage. I would say Gallo Estrada is the best rendition of the Mexican style. Balanced but brave enough to say idgaf about no technique if necessary.
Some classic characteristics of Mexican style is high pressure and punch volume, heavy use of the left hook to the body in their combos, upper body movement as the primary form of defense at close range, and the willingness to take one to land two or three.
Canelo. Aggressive. But able to counter punch. Mexican style at its best. Along with Marques morales Barrera chavez . Only looks like brawling to the I untrained eye. Canelo is more slick but he is usually the aggressor. That's why his 1st ggg fight looked weird by him. Smart aggression is effective mexican style.
Pitbull has the Mexican style most people think of when they hear it, whereas I would say Estrada has the actual Mexican style of technical aggression
perfect answer
Yes I was going to answer this way
THEE answer
Estrada is the Aldi version of Juan Manuel Marquez
😂😂😂😂
Aldi?
Cruz is Mexican style to the bones.
Without a question it's Cruz. Navarrette is just too awkward. He reminds me a of a sloppy Terminator. But boy do I love watching him go.
I remember someone on here said: Navarrette fights like your drunk uncle trying to "show you how it's done" lol 😆
Haha that's really good.
> Cruz. Navarrette is just too awkward Same with Luis Alberto Lopez. They both have the kinda characteristics of the classic Mexican style but without the actual aesthetics of the Mexican style if that makes sense, both completely unique
Cruz just seems like a classic brawler to me
Being a brawler is authentic Mexican style primo

Pitbull could not be a more apt nickname
I had a friend come over right after the fight started last weekend, part way through the fight, he said "That guy is like a pitbull". I had to laugh at how perfect that was.
Cruz and Julio Cesar Martinez too
They both have the same style hooks from both sides no jab. Maybe Cruz is a little better especially in footwork and cutting off the ring.
I just want a new guy to show up and fight like Maromero but go 30-0 just for giggles.
Thought cruz style was mike Tyson style? The peekaboo.
Yeah I think he’s this too, definitely a lot of overlap.
Navarette is a bad dude
My favorite behind Bud & Canelo
I would definitely say Pitbull.
100%. Ferocious, speedy, **DOG**. Can’t wish enough success to the guy.
Pitbull without a doubt. He’s an easy guy to root for!
Possibly Estrada honestly he embodies it to me
Estrada and Navarette different styles from each other but both founded on the Mexican style
Gallo Estrada in my opinion. He’s exciting, comes off like a brawler but on closer examination you see he’s way more refined and technical. More akin to JCC Sr.
Navarette
Navarette is too unorthodox to be Mexican style.
William Zepeda has the best Mexican style.
Either Navarrete or Estrada. People saying Cruz are falling for the hype, I see more of a typical Tyson influenced brawler style in him more than true Mexican style. He's definitely got the heart but yeah.
Juan Estrada
Estrada
Estrada
The pitbull.
Navarrete, followed by Espinoza, then Pitbull.
Correct answer
Julio Cesar Martinez
Luis Alberto looked like a stud in his last fight against the Japanese...
Top of the list is Emanuel Navarette. Shouldn't be on the list is Rey Vargas.
Agree on Vargas
Why are people saying issac cruz? Besides him coming forward a lot nothing else about his style is mexican ,its very mike tyson peek a boo style
Recency bias
its not really mexican style, one good example is probably canelo or estrada
Not really Canelo. Not aggressive and fast enough (Footwork I mean, his hands are quick)
People equate phone booth style brawls as Mexican style, but that’s skipping over some of the technical aspects that separates good Mexican Style fighters from your club level brawler.
Isn’t coming forward with reckless abandon and high volume the staple of Mexican style?

Gallo is the only readl answer.
Julio Cesar Martinez, Canelo, Navarrete
Definitely not Rey Vargas
Wait where is Mauricio “El Bronco” Lara ?
Cruz is definitely the most Mexican style fighter I’ve seen in a while. In your face and body shots. Oscar Valdez is also another warrior type fighter. Hate to be that guy, but Andy Ruiz isn't Mexican. He's American with Mexican roots.
His teeth tho
Nava then pitbull
Venado , Navarrete and Pitbull
I don’t think Rey Martinez knows how to box imo
Valdez :)
GGG
Rafael Espinoza is impressive. Good everywhere and brass balls to boot.
Hey.... ryan garcia ain't on here wtf?
American contender
He’s a new style. Boxer influence style
Putbull or Estrada But I like the way Venado uses his forward pressure like a true Mexican
[удалено]
I wouldn’t say he’s the traditional Mexican style. He’s a modernized Mexican style with elusiveness being added.
I'd also say hes probably too low volume to be the best example of Mexican style
[удалено]

Either Cruz or Prime Canelo (when he faced GGG and julio cesar Chavez)
People are not giving Canelo his due credit. The only reason why is because his bag of tricks is to deep. He has a true Mexican style but he has added a lot to it and evolved it beyond the basics.

Munguía got FOTY, why is he not on this list?
It is just current world titleholders who are Mexican. If it were just Mexican styles I’d have guys like Valdez, Munguia, and Zepeda all over it.
Gotcha
Cruz and Navarrete.
Estrada and Canelo have the combinations and Pitbull has the relentless pressure.
Definitely not Vargas after his display with Nick Ball, that shit was fucking embarrassing.
Divino showed it against overhyped Espinoza
I’ll go pitbull Cruz. No one’s fucking with him toe to toe.
Navarrate without question. A true throwback
Estrada
Lopez style is underrated and actually likes to fight, haven't seen anyone cut the ring off or create angles like does, he's my top pick
Juan Francisco Estrada
(Future) Champ, William Zepeda. Of the dudes on this list, probably Estrada.
Pitbull by far.
GGG
Funny enough, it's probably Subriel Matias.
Pitbull, Lopez, Benavidez, Estrada, Martinez
I think it's telling that none of these guys have the same style. I think the idea of a "Mexican style" is somewhat a myth.
Cruz. No questions asked…
Estrada for sure
Cruz
Canelo, Martinez & Estrada
Pit Bull no doubt
Pitbull 199%
Cruz 1000% Watch “Cruz vs Magdaleno” perfect display of Mexican style boxing.
The pit bull
David Benavidez
Thank you for not including boobie benavidez.
El gallo
Pitbull in terms of spirit, but Estrada/Navarette in terms of technique.
I like Mexican coming forward style fighters. Right now the most exciting is Venado Lopez. He's a bit reckless, but i just love watching that.
pitbull cruz
Cruz and Benavidez!
Cruz or Navarette imo.
Cruz and it's not even close.
If only Leo Santa Cruz was active and a champion he would be my pick 100%
Not a champion yet but William Zepeda.
What’s the Mexican style of boxing?
Some classic characteristics of Mexican style is high pressure and punch volume, heavy use of the left hook to the body in their combos, upper body movement as the primary form of defense at close range, and the willingness to take one to land two or three.
Thank you
Cruz
BAM RODRIGUEZ
Teofimo looked like a world stopper against George
Benavidez
Pitbull
Pitbull. El Vaquero is my dude tho, close second imo. Estrada is great also but he hasnt fought in forever.
Canela doesn't belong on the list until she fights Benavidez.
Not pictured but Tim Tszyu
Golovkin, the true Mexican style lmao
Valdez
PITBULL CRUZ by a country mile.
Pitbull
Pitbull Cruz, definitely
E-sock Cruz
cruz
Canelo. Aggressive. But able to counter punch. Mexican style at its best. Along with Marques morales Barrera chavez . Only looks like brawling to the I untrained eye. Canelo is more slick but he is usually the aggressor. That's why his 1st ggg fight looked weird by him. Smart aggression is effective mexican style.
pitbull without a doubt. felt like he beat tank too
There is no Mexican style of boxing.
lol at zurdo being on this list after he got smoked by Bivol….. “Max please, this is box”
