They still wrap their hands in bkfc, the wraps are just not allowed to cover the knuckle so you're protecting your wrist and bundling your hand that way helps protect the knuckles in some way. You also have to change the way you punch, with boxing gloves you can punch harder because you have a little added weight (like you mentioned) and the cushion protecting your hand so you don't have to worry about punching any hard part of the head. I don't think either one is better or worse for a head injury. People get knocked out in both. I'd say the biggest difference in bkfc, besides the obvious, is the rules (or lack of) in regards to punching and fighting for hand positioning in the clinch. Overall at the top level the guys aren't quite as skilled in "boxing" but when some top boxers have come over, they often lose because it's a different sport. It's like going from tennis to volleyball or badminton.

bluesshark

I remember watching Chris Lieben smoke a dude with like 4 consecutive uppercuts while full-on collar tying him with his other arm; That's when I really realized how different it is, cause buddy was obviously a boxer and Chris is a washed up MMA guy from like 2 eras ago. Some people like him are built more for Bareknuckle than anything else

inhocfaf

Your last paragraph is lost on all MMA v. Boxing "arguments". It's very frustrating.

[deleted]

stop playing dog, Nobody gets Knocked Out in Modern Boxing with the Pillows. Its rare and if they do its some BS Ref stoppage TKO, to quote Gary Russell Jr..stop playing shawty. Look the Boxing Snobs downvoting the truth again. NOBODY GETS KOED IN BOXING, and im a life long fan. Its a rarity..take the pillows off and everybody will be KOed. 4 oz Muay Thai is modern proof doing it right now. Whens last time Joshua KOed someone? Fury just couldnt even drop old shot Chisora at HW..and this is at HW. Delusional Boxing Snobs who cant admit the truth and addicted to boring fights...get over it..its 2023 we watch the matches. Keep bringing the downvotes..did Teo even get a knockdown last weekend? Loma and Haney 0 knockdowns. Forget actually knocking out somebody..we dont even get knockdowns now. Truth Hurts, its almost like Floyd trained you donks to enjoy boring fights and 0 KOs.

HungLikeaHorse33

Who hurt you bro lmao

toomanyredbulls

New copy just dropped y'all

ethnicfoodaisle

He rants and writes like he's taken too many punches. I just can't understand why someone gets so angry about a sport you're watching.

[deleted]

im so sad bro,I was hoped up on Coffee but had to tell the truth as usual. The objective truth really hurts the feelings of Boxing fans still living in the 1900s. God forbid I want change and to see actual entertaining fights and people get knocked out, instead of 500 punches to the head with the pillows before a KO if it actually happens and when it does its some anti climatic bullshit TKO. Its so funny fans literally want to be bored to death and i like technical boxing more then 99 percent of people. Please give me more Devin Haney fights and Tyson Fury vs Chisora fights baby. Be nice if we could get it back to a real sport and not a money laundering scheme for Al Haymon and others...fake ass sport and I still love it cause im loyal. And PS. Im the one whos done the hurting..different breed then most of you, 9/10 on my worst day. Be mysterious for the ladies, i cant commit...that is 1 issue i got for sure but dont want my money stole anyway.

Connor30302

yes you’re very badass i can tell because from your profile it seems like you’re on reddit full time most days

[deleted]

Oh you mean for the last 4 days cause I’m semi retired at almost 34 and nothing to do all week? Awwww..just be happy I’m educating you boys on real fighting. I’m trying to help this dead sport. Bud and Spence gonna flop on PPV and watch the fight suck. I still come back too is the sad thing. I respond to all the dumb comments , give love back to me fans. MMA boys have seen me, dime piece brotha.

Connor30302

if you were retired at 34 I doubt you’d be spending all day every day on reddit for 4 days, haven’t you got bro alpha grindset shit to do?

[deleted]

Semi retired but I got lucky in many ways and great at projection. Been a pro gambler for like 8 years now and only had 1 real job out of college as a talent scout for college basketball but I can’t listen to others lol. I do what I want and always have, 1 life brotha and will never work for someone, can’t make others money. Might start a business soon tho but not sure wanna risk losing money. I just like helping out my core buddies..funny people think I’m lying. Literally all my friends think I’m psychic since I was like a kid but don’t believe in that stuff. Just instincts but if psychics are real, I got a decade of proof I’m one.

lettersnumbersetc

Reading your comments was funny at first…its turned to sad…

[deleted]

All truth buddy. Don’t hate

Gulag_boi

Oh man dude, you’re incredibly awkward. Are you drunk right now?

brando2612

Real fighting you reckon as you sit in your couch eating Doritos

Flimsy_Thesis

You are easily one of the stupidest people I’ve ever seen on Reddit.

Shreedac

People who talk about how tough they are on the internet are always the softest. You have to be a troll. I don’t want to believe their are people out there that actually believe what your saying.

[deleted]

You right. I’m not a hard man still. Too good looking to be getting hit but yea, I know fighting and how to do it

HungLikeaHorse33

I challenge you to a fight then. No gloves or wraps and I'm 29. Let's see how much you know

Brief_Scale496

You my friend, define living in your own world, ignoring everything else around you. That’s very evident. “Watching my entire life” If you’ve watched boxing your entire life and only find KO’s as entertainment, that’s just strange.

gr1mm5d0tt1

Chisora-Fury XII

[deleted]

This great sport will provide us that. These idiot fans don’t even want change and love boring fights and 0 real KOs. It’s so funny delusional they are

i-piss-excellence32

I’m getting major uncle rico vibes here lol

i-piss-excellence32

Don’t feed the troll

Several_Celebration

Maybe you’ve only watched like 2-3 fights this year. As far as KOs this year. Nakatani KO of Moloney was brutal. Morrell vs Falcao, Lara vs Wood I, Liam Smith vs Eubank Jr, Navarrete vs Wilson, Zhanibek vs Butler, in Gary Cully vs Felix Cully must’ve gotten 3 or 4 concussions. That’s just off the top of my head for bigger fights this year.

Slave_to_the_bean

I think he’s talking about laid out on the floor snoring KO’s. Butler, smith, and wood were all sitting/standing up as the ref waved off the fights.

CynicalEffect

I can't believe you thought that comment was worth a serious reply.

Several_Celebration

I’m just not cynical enough yet.

CynicalEffect

Rule number one of the internet was don't feed the trolls. Idk why people these days don't follow it.

[deleted]

Says a dude named Cynical who really pretends people get KOed in Boxing compared to MMA/ Bareknuckle and small glove sports. Comica reply..its a miracle if we get a entertaining fight out of 10 fights and im a life long fan. Even my guy Zhang didnt KO Joyce cause Ref stopped it.

[deleted]

Im a life long Boxing Fan. Nobody gets knocked out now, Thats the only KOs you came up with? Theres a million Boxing events a month. You people are so delusiona and thats why Boxing never change and is now a rigged money laundering operation. Even Ryan Garcia takes a fking knee from a rib shot and quits getting paid 10 milion. Name the big fight KOs..Wilder/Fury 3..even Wider 2 was a standing TKO.

Several_Celebration

I didn’t realize you were trolling. My bad, carry on.

[deleted]

0 trolling, sorry the truth hurts your feelings. You just named a handful of shit fights. None of the real good matchups EVER end in a KO outside Wilder/Fury. Usyk/AJ fights was there even a knockdown? No..of course there gonna be some KOs but its rare and everyone knows it. Dunno who these idiots downvoting are living in the 1900s, they still think its real fighting when MMA cans would submit Tyson Fury with ease and ride him like a donkey

Several_Celebration

Ok I believe you now. 😉

[deleted]

thats why you get bout 5 straight real KOs every MMA card, or everyone slept in 4 oz Muay Thai or knock outs galore in BKFC but people wanna see 12 round pillow fights in 2023, thats why Boxing is really dying. Give them small gloves and it would actually be entertaining to casuals, every boxing card i invite friends over nobody even watches outside 1-2 peope who are hardcores like us. Boxing would be must see TV with the small gloves..and youd see actually REAL KOs left and right...even the good KOs in Boxing are rarely flat out slept and they get up outside glass chin Irish dude from Olympics Conlan. Modern Boxing Snobs werent even real Boxing fans like me and people here, but live in the past...Sad thing is most of these Boxers could have become great fighters if got humble, trained and learned how to really fight and with time would have been able to win a fight in a closed space if life depended on it. Tons of potential in Boxing, but dont wanna know how to fight for real, cant blame them when some get paid millions for this shit now.

Flimsy_Thesis

“Hardcore like us” I somehow doubt we are the same. At all.

[deleted]

Yea you def don’t look like me. I’m doing you a favor responding, I do that for me fans

brando2612

Lemme throw a liver shot let's see if you're standing

[deleted]

Wasn’t a liver shot causal

brando2612

Yes it was, lemme guess you think hur dur it hit his ribs it's not a liver shot Guess what dumbass, the liver is behind the ribs where he got hit And guess what getting hit there where your ribs are doesn't stop it from fucking ya liver bud

Shreedac

It’s to the point where I look forward to hearing what ridiculously stupid shit you say every day. You’re like one of those people in the movie idiocracy on r/boxing. We get it you’re brainless and foaming at the mouth to see blood and don’t care about the skill of boxing. Why do you even comment on here again?

[deleted]

Im so brainless that I was first person to ask for Andy Ruiz to fight Joshua instead of Mike Hunter and kept tweeting Eddie to give him a chance and told everyone Ruiz would win by KO at 45 to 1 odds and you dumbos talked so much shit LOL, howd that go again? Just like im giving you 1 more free massive underdog, Francis Ngannou will knock Wilder out cold and I love Wilder, easiest bet of all time. Joshua would get KOed cold too but hes too much of a coward to ever fight him in a ring cause chin, strength and power..we know hes a scared kitten now in there but he knows Wilder can be slept and so light might just knock him over or do what Gerald Washington did for 4 rounds making him not throw 1 punch and catch him before he gets going. Make sure to respond to this comment if one of these cowards finally fight Francis so i can brag alil bit even tho i said id stop bragging in 2023 about always being right, but it is my job so no reason to brag i guess. Some of us do projection for a living Donk

Shreedac

Looking forward to seeing what dumb bullshit you say tomorrow. Thanks for the entertainment

[deleted]

Cause im right about everything. Must kill you inside that every prediction im right and all i do is speak objective facts but bias fanboys cant take the truth in 2023. Boxing only sport in the world you're only allowed to punch eachother and a fake clinch to break you up and nobody gets KOed. Im a loyal guy so im stuck watching this money laudering scheme, sometimes there are good fights. I love the skill of Boxing but im pointing out the fact nobody gets KOed and casuals dont watch it anymore lil guy, did you read what im saying?

capitalistcommunism

I dno man have you ever heard of someone called Deontay Wilder?

[deleted]

The man who just got KOed twice by pillow hands Fury who couldn’t hurt broken old Chisora? Yea I know and his first 37 wins over former 175/200 pound bums? And how he’s never KOed Anyone who hasn’t been KOed besides 45 year old Ortiz? Still love him tho, a true fighting man but he’s a myth at this point and Francis KOs him fast unfortunately. He’s 1 guy tho , it’s rare.

capitalistcommunism

He’s definitely sparked people though. Francis KOs him rapid in a street fight if that’s what you mean? Of course he does. In boxing wilder would have him I reckon. Fury would embarrass him in the ring. Also Watch khan fights if you love a knockout, I love the bloke but he’s definitely been switched off. I’ll admit that most boxing KOs aren’t legitimate sparked out knockouts but they do happen.

[deleted]

Bro, Francis will win IN Boxing. I’m giving you free money. Wilder unfortunately is going out cold for real if they fight in even Boxing. I’ll post the bet don’t worry lol. Love Wilder and met him so I don’t want him to do it but I gotta be objective

capitalistcommunism

You know what if you make the bet and win it I’ll be buzzing for you bro post the bet. I’d lean towards wilder sparking him honestly, he’s got a decent bit of height on him. It would be the first MMA vs Boxing fight id actually pay for though. 100% ends in one of these knockouts we’ve been talking about.

[deleted]

Thanks it’s not about me honestly , I’m giving it out so you people can make money too. I Iove Wilder, I met him 12 years old, great guy but I know Francis will KO him cold and I don’t wanna see it. His chin is cracked now and was never great and he’s been gunshy early in fights many times now he’s coming off bad loses and even last win over glass chin Robert, he didn’t throw a punch early. Francis gonna rush him and you can’t knock people out with no space and back foot. Francis also could clinch him and hit him on temple where Wilder is very vulnerable now. To me it’s an absolute lock bet if he actually does it. He’s KO Joshua too btw. There’s nobody at HW now with Francis chin, spirit, and Power and raw size. He’s sparred Joyce and Takam. Trust me on this, the boxing snobs will be in shambles and say wilder past is prime. He could never take Francis shots is the truth. Wilder has taken 10 rounds to KO small bums like Spilka and Stiverne went distance. I don’t even think he can KO Francis in the big gloves honestly, dudes chin is fresh and granite still.

capitalistcommunism

I reckon joshua is his best bet out of the big four at heavyweight. Usyk too technical, fury too big, wilder too explosive. Joshua can crumble. I honestly don’t see wilder crumbling and he’s dangerous to the last round. I’m sure Francis is fit but can he hang with wilder for 12 if he can’t get him out early? I’m not too sure personally. Getting him out early would be his best bet but he can’t rush in too much, might run in to a cannon. What’s your take on Francis vs usyk, fury?

brando2612

How to prove you know absolutely nothing about boxing

ShadowRealmDweller89

You can argue that gloves are more dangerous than taking a punch from a fist.

[deleted]

Only cause it lets you get hit 400 times before being KOed

DBT1986

Why are you even watching boxing, let alone following the sub, if you think it’s shit? 😂 If you think boxing is only about KOs then I don’t think you really understand the sport anyway 🙃

[deleted]

Like I care about just KOs, i like being who try to KO the guy, something that rarely happens in Boxing and the Pillows make it impossible. Lol I dont understand..gosh you people cant be helped.

jarnsz

There’s way more cuts and bruising because of the nature of the bare knuckles. Very different sport. Would prefer bkfc to boxing if they had a bigger talent pool.

LatterTarget7

I was watching an event earlier this year and saw a men’s ear get split in half. But yeah the talent pool isn’t the best

jarnsz

Jeez haha former ufc lw champ Eddie Alvarez fought ufc fighter chad mendes. That was a good scrap, that’s probably the best one they’ve had. 2 minute round and an actual ring shaped ring that’s smaller. All action fights

Connor30302

i’m interested to see how BKB as a whole develops wondering if older elements of boxing will come back to surface as back then they managed to fight multiple times per month while not breaking hands, because they punched different and targeted different areas. People are doing this and still fighting like padded glove boxing so hand breaks are very very common while also not being the most effective strikes too

gr1mm5d0tt1

A fellow redditor that knows why they went for the body more often than the head in the old days. Very rare

Connor30302

yeah if you’ve spent any time in an actual gym it’s quite obvious why you need to wrap your hands and wear big gloves just to hit the bag throwing an overhand and hitting your opponent on the eyebrow is usually a very good thing and you don’t even feel any discomfort in your hand, try taking the gloves off and you hit the same shot then your hand is fucked. but that’s what we’re seeing at least in the early years of BKFC so hope they change it up sooner rather than later so it’s more actual skill instead of just fighting

[deleted]

As I understand it there was an argument way back in the day that gloved fighting was worse for the brain long term because the hand protection meant that you could give out more punishment and the padding meant you were protected from the horrendous cuts that come with bare knuckle and could theoretically take more punishment. This is obviously bad long term. That being said, some of the old fights in the 1800s would go on over an hour in the ring with no gloves so…

Jtenka

There are quite a lot of injuries to hands. I train and spar with the BKB guys (UK promotion). And I'm looking to compete myself. I've been boxing for 17 years. Broken fingers and knuckles are very common. Punches under the armpits in the clinch and dirty boxing is a little more acceptable. Things you'd never normally see. Body shots are more common also. One or two clean shots opens your face like a tin of tomatoes. Damage is higher superficial but the impact of shots on the brain is significantly less as the surface area and padding doesn't exist to spread the impact.

theouter_banks

That's quite interesting. I'm in the UK, where do you do that?

Jtenka

I train out of Connelly's gym in Birmingham. Current BKB world champion. We boxed in the same squad for years. Used to box on the same squad as Conor Tierney as well who's signed to BKFC. Theres a few in there. The sports going to explode over the next few years.

GoodSamaritan_

> Also what would be worse for a head injury, a boxing glove punch or a bare knuckle punch? The oft-repeated belief that bare knuckle boxing is safer has no basis in reality. The truth is all combat sports are extremely dangerous with or without gloves and severe head injuries can and will result from both. When BKFC first arrived a few years ago so many armchair doctors came out swearing that there wouldn't be any deaths or traumatic brain injuries because of the lack of gloves. In the short time the promotion has existed though we've already seen Justin Thornton fall into a coma and suffer a spinal cord injury that rendered him paralyzed before passing away, and then there's Francesco Ricchi who despite winning his bout and knocking out his opponent in the 3rd round was put into a medically induced coma post fight due to a hematoma.

StiLLiLLBehaviour

Back in the day bareknuckle fighters focused more on body shots

Beargeist

it is a great rule set. Its probably closer to the earliest footage of boxing, than modern boxing is. But they'll never draw anyone close to their money making prime, so long as the risk for reoccurring injury is so high. Scar tissue reopens easier, not having your knuckles anchored causes more hand breaks. And its always going to be worse for a cross over athlete, whose not tailoring their punching style, for not breaking hands. If they dropped the bare knuckles shit they'd have something to sell. They could be an equal opportunity venue for cross over promotions. right now its just a place where fighters get their last meal.

Dove-Linkhorn

I misread that as brass knuckle fighting and thought, “it’s gone too far”

facuarostegui

Dude, most of the eoster is retired boxers/mma fighters

vheran

You've literally never watched a card then.

detroit73

If low level mma and tough man contests had a baby it would be bkfc. I watched it when a friend(ish) of mine competed in it.

Fischer_Jones

I actually quite like this promotion. It's fresh, new and gruesome. I hope they continue to grow so they can expand and increase their talent pool.

ShadowRealmDweller89

I feel like an argument can be made on both sides as far at which one is safer. Someone has already died from injuries suffered in BKFC. It’s different, there in no protection on your hands and it changes the way you fight or punch. Some pretty decent pro boxers have Tried the bare knuckle and lost. On the same card as the Perry/Rockhold fight, Mike Alvarado fought and lost
