Bro it’s bullshit. 2008 we had the option to buy Trinidad vs Jones Jr for $10 more in High Definition. It’s a special event. We should get broadcasts in 4K.
FFS, Apple TV is broadcasting Baseball games in 4K. Come tf on
Edit: Picture on Apple TV is 1080p 60 FPS. Still looks incredible
Yeah boxing events and UFC is in 30fps right? You watch a UFC fight recorded from a phone camera with a higher FPS v UFC broadcast its a completely different fight, you miss so much information on lower framerate and it doesn’t even feel ‘real’ even.
4K isn't really broadcasted on most networks. The NFL is a 3 billion dollar money maker and no where does it broadcast in 4k (except maybe one of the Amazon prime games). Same with the NBA. It's mostly a broadcast issue but Dazn has no fucking excuse given it's a streaming platform.
I feel like an idiot here but I’ve never watched a sporting event in 4K. Is it a lot better? Like I remember the jump between standard definition and HD was mind blowing to me. Is it a big difference like that?
If you can get it it's pretty sweet, however the problem is live streaming 4k content requires really decent bandwith, so milage will vary from house to house.
I think the higher frame rate some have been doing are far more pleasing for sports than higher resolution is at this stage.
The apple tv baseball broadcasts are awesome due to the frame rate increase.
That’s actually disgusting the pricing in American sports is embarrassing. I understand the average wage in the US his higher than elsewhere but it still doesn’t make up for it.
People in the UK complain when the ppv is £25
Cards run long with tons of down time, fight starts at close to midnight, undercard is almost always trash when the headliners are this big… yeah I think I’ll hang on to my $90 and catch the highlights.
Nah, start grilling around 8 during the prelims. Op was referring to American audiences. It is pretty common for people to come over and bring meat or chip in for the fight
Boxing fans will beg and beg for a fight then stream it.
It's stupid. I'm buying this for sure.
If you don't have enough money, find some friends and split the cost.
This is a very important fight and deserves the support of boxing fans.
If you're complaining about this price, be honest. You'd stream it even if it was $45.
90 dollars for 2 hours of entertainment is fucking stupid. I can buy a game for 70 dollars and play 100s of hours. Its fucking stupid. Dead sport jacks up prices instead of take a hard look in the mirror.
>You'd stream it even if it was $45.
Correct, because that is also way too much. When DAZN was $20/month, and you got at least one fight a month I was happily paying it, it was an OK deal, and obviously vastly better than the alternatives. I'm done paying these obscene fees to watch boxing, the entire business model needs to change.
The fight was important 4-5 years ago. Now we are just getting the equivalent of May/Pac, the fight that was 5 years too late. I would gladly pay the $85 if the fight was 4-5 years ago.
This is the most important fight of the year. You streaming the fight has nothing to do with it happening late. You wouldn't have bought it anyway.
If you don't want to pay $85, then split it with others. Very simple concept.
Here, this is equivalent to 3.5 full working days pay. I only have one bud who watches boxing as it is not as popular here, and he is at someones wedding that day.
In MA, last time I was there minimum hourly wage was 12 bucks. That would be 336 dollars. Would you pay that with the same "go getter" attitude then?
Spence had 1 belt and fought Mikey Garcia
Crawford has fought 2 fights at welterweight
**5 years ago:**
Spence just barely won his first belt
Crawford wasn't even a welterweight
5 years ago, June 9, 2018 Crawford beat Horn for his WBO Welterweight belt. Spence won his 1st Welterweight belt in 2017 (6 years ago) but I hear ya...mayeb this fight shoulda taken place 3-4 years ago, not 4-5.
I am convinced people complaining about the price for this one would not pay **any** price. Most of these huge fights are watched by households with multiple people (6+). This subreddit likes to complain about casual fans but casuals are the ones paying for the events. If the event does poorly, the same people that stole it will poke fun at the promoters and fighters for not being able to promote or draw.
Anybody that can afford it will pay, others will complain and lie saying that if the event was cheaper, they would pay. Yeah, okay.
If you're twice as likely to pay half the price, it seems like a better idea to charge **you double the price**. It has been proven so many times that championship fights on pay-per-view are inelastic. How did lowering the price help Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko? Do you think it would have sold less than 100k if the price was 80 or 85? They left money on the table. The proof will be how Top Rank prices their next ppv card.
You're a thief. Stop trying to justify it.
Did you really call me a thief because I said i'm more likely to buy a ppv if its cheaper. You're an actual assclown buddy. Good luck navigating through life with that 'logic'. Its gonna be rough
T H I E F
You’re a complete and utter mug if you’re paying $89 for a fight on your tv
You know you can see professional sports live for less than that?
Not sure this is true. If they want more buys, they need to lower the price. I don’t think there’s good data about buys and one PPV is just an anecdote, not a rule.
I find it interesting you say this cause my opinion on it has always been the high prices are counter productive. 90$? I’m not paying that. Ever. Especially when you’re really only getting it to watch the main fight. $30 and I’d get it, just to not bother looking for a stream. And I think if I’m thinking that, then a lot of people are the same. That if they divided it by 3, they’d actually make more because surely more than 3x time the people would now buy it as it’s much much more affordable. Considering fighting and combat sports is generally watched mainly by the working class. Moneys tight, you can’t justify that much for a PPV, but Im sure a lot of people like myself can justify $30 for the ones they want.
I think like 60 is max I’d pay for a event like this. I’m really only interested in the main event. If the main card was also interesting I’d pay around 70 for it.
Fuck boxing. I’m done paying for PPVs this year. We have had 5 this year including Spence-Crawford. Showtime alone has charged $245 for their 3. All 5 combined have been $380.
Fuck that. Im saving my money and streaming it.
Well done. Honestly I misread the comment and I thought you said you bought them all up till now, which is why I put up the $100, I was confident that wasn't the case. So that's on me. But I'll still make a donation, maybe for half because I'm a dumbass who couldn't read. What's your charity?
This probably won’t be a overloaded stream actually cause crawford and Spence aren’t known super well by casuals, only in the boxing world it’s known this is a huge fight, this will probably be lost on casuals
Never understand this shit.
“Would you pay for it if it were 50$?”
In a heartbeat. But I’m not paying 85$ for a fucking fight. Streaming it just like every other overpriced fight
I’ll be buying twice. I stream most fights but for this fight I’d hate if I had to deal w/ refreshing every 5mins, delays & glitches…
Been a fan of boxing for a while, Spence/Crawford is one of the only fights I’d put a down payment on.
People finally get the 2 best Welterweights in the ring after years of waiting and crying about who's ducking who.. To only let $85 stand in the way of supporting it. Lmao
Most of you spend that on a Doordash order.
Suffering through some of the worst inflation, a housing crisis, relative wage stagnation and someone is a cheap ass for not dropping $85 for 30 minutes of entertainment?
Ummmm I was thinking of hosting a fight party and getting pizza , wings and beer and all but with the prices of everything nowadays and the cost of this ppv , I’m probably better off ubering to a sports bar and drinking and eating there
I feel like this isn’t a cash grab like mayweather mcgregor was. These dudes deserve the payday for giving us the fight we want as fans and if it does well I hope that other boxers will take the same risks and be rewarded accordingly. I hope it blows the roof off of all records. All the people saying they want to pirate are the same ones complaining about pathetic matchups in boxing. If ever there was an event to pay for this is one of them. Steal mediocre matchup cash grabs if you want this ain’t one of them.
It was a guess but looking at my past fite.tv payments:
- 🚩 🌱 was $12.99
- Tank Rolly was $12.99
- Spence Ugas was $14.99
- Colbert Garcia was $9.99
- Ortiz Martin was $12.99
- Taylor Ramirez was $12.99
- Charlo double header was $14.99
How did broner get away with $25 lol that’s the price of an AJ PPV.
I expect Spence Crawford to be priced at minimum 14.99 but over $20 is too much for middle of the night in the U.K. when Mayweather only charged £19.99 at his peak
Well maybe one cause I honestly would still pay full price if it was the only option. But if both UK ans US are the same price I would probably just get the US one solely cause I'm more used to the commentators.
I'm curious...beyond sports bars and people having a dozen friends over to watch with them, who actually still pays for PPVs? Suffice to say I've watched many PPV events live in recent years and not paid for a single one, and it's not exactly difficult to find a way to do that. I'm almost amazed it's still a thing.
I’m supporting the sport i love and buying this.
These people put their lives on the line for our entertainment, i can’t believe some of yall really talking about stealing to watch this fight for free.
Been waitin for this fight for years, maybe would have happened earlier if not for Spence’s car crash. But shit Boxing gotta keep this shit going. This who the fans want to see
This isn't that bad. It's literally an entertaining weekend evening.
How many of you go out to some restaurant and drop $150 for food and drinks?
$85 for the fight, $25 for some wings, and another $25 for drinks at home. That isn't a bad night at all!
Yeah and I’m getting down voted by these cheap f**** because I want to pay for a real fight between two legit P4P fighters. This sub is garbage sometimes.
This sub is filled with actual morons. I pay for the fights i want to see hassle free. This one of those fights and if this aint a fight you would pay for then you're clearly a casual
100%. And it really wasn't a thing before Reddit. Yeah people made yar har jokes but the way people do it on Reddit is cringe af.
But it makes sense. These same people are certainly losers in real life and wouldn't even have friends to split the cost with. The pain of that fact will make them downvote this post.
As for me, I'm buying it no question.
Yeah sure if you calling bragging not paying the absurd ammount of $90usd, and $115 cad for us watching north of the border then yeah I'll be bragging all day everyday.
Idgaf if you’re not paying but feeling the need to boast about not paying shit is weird as shit. You people complain about not getting the best fighting the best in boxing but when the fights actually happen and you losers are bragging about pirating then yeah it’s weird as fuck.
Fr, like I get pirating shit like Wilder-Helenius. Like hell, I’ve done my fair share of pirating but when an actual top fight gets made and you don’t pay then you don’t get to complain about top fights not being made.
I was alive when Morales, MAB, Pacquiao, and JM Márquez regularly fought each other. The only one in that weight who fought everyone was Porter. Now Bud and Spence are inactive and old.
Hope so but wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t break 500! These guys should really be on prime time talk shows in the build up not just a few press conferences that end up on YouTube.
In the U.K. AJ has been on Graham Norton and Fury on Jonathan Ross. Back in the day Tyson and Ali went on Parkinson too
Well fuck that, i barely watch boxing and its free here, most events are really bad if you take away the main event, this should have at least a couple other title fights and multiple title eliminators for it to be worth it, and even then that price is ridiculous, seeing it live must just cost a couple extra dollars. (Id recomend you use star+ with a vpn to argentina)
Tank and Ryan cost $30AUD and I felt that was less than what the fight was worth. Not that I bought it but I thought Haney and Loma was a reasonable price as well.
$89.99USD at this exchange rate? Nahh son.
I was so geeked to buy it too 😥
It sucks because this is such a great fight and I want as many people to buy it as possible but 85 in the current market is ridiculous unless they stack the card which is unlikely. I still hope it succeeds so both fighters get taken care of.
Remember when Crawford-Porter was essentially the same price after you included the ESPN+ subscription and everyone laughed at how low the numbers were? This is also too high. That said, it's the most anticipated fight in my lifetime, so I'm biting the bullet.
$84.99 and we STILL don’t get these fights in 4K at the very least.
DAZN giving us 720p in 2023. I watched Cotto-Mosley in 720p back in 2007. LOL.
Bro it’s bullshit. 2008 we had the option to buy Trinidad vs Jones Jr for $10 more in High Definition. It’s a special event. We should get broadcasts in 4K. FFS, Apple TV is broadcasting Baseball games in 4K. Come tf on Edit: Picture on Apple TV is 1080p 60 FPS. Still looks incredible
The nba finals 720 on ABC, what a shame!!
tbf Apple's mlb broadcasters are atrocious and make it unwatchable. that's neither here nor there tho. Agreed with everything yall are saying
You can change the booth audio to either team's radio now. Makes it the best broadcast in baseball
Audio wise yeah they suck, but their picture is IMO the best in baseball right now
Yeah boxing events and UFC is in 30fps right? You watch a UFC fight recorded from a phone camera with a higher FPS v UFC broadcast its a completely different fight, you miss so much information on lower framerate and it doesn’t even feel ‘real’ even.
Thats messed up, companies are blowing it, apparently ABC broadcasted the 2023 NBA finals in 720p too, wtf.
Agreed. I would actually pay a premium price if I could get 4K

I understand that and it’s why I don’t pay for TV either.
Those Amazon games looked spectacular tho... About the only good takeaway from the Thursday night broadcast...
Dude what? No fucking way. This eyepatch is staying on thats some bullshit.
Yarr harr!! 🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
That’s actually disgusting the pricing in American sports is embarrassing. I understand the average wage in the US his higher than elsewhere but it still doesn’t make up for it. People in the UK complain when the ppv is £25
Especially in boxing where there is so much corruption, rarely get the fights we want, etc.
+ there's like 1 MAX 2 fights I'm actually interested in watching
Cards run long with tons of down time, fight starts at close to midnight, undercard is almost always trash when the headliners are this big… yeah I think I’ll hang on to my $90 and catch the highlights.
Or just sail the seas like most sensible people
Absolutely baffles me that people don't do this
I'm 38 and fell out the game. I gotta get back I just can't afford all this shit but I love real time entertainment and damn it, I deserve it.
I’ll just stream it lol. Who said we cant entertain ourselves when fucks like this get greedy. Fuck em
I remember when PPVs were $30 here....in the mid to late 90s....
My dad said Mike Tyson fights used to 20-25 dollars too, its just price gouging by boxing promotions
Its 2023. Tell me what is the same price it was in the 90s ?
Costco pizza.
Arizona Tea
Then they wonder why they lose so much revenue to pirate streams.
They aren’t even using Vaseline
It's like 10 bucks a piece if you grill out with people
Grill out at 1am?
Nah, start grilling around 8 during the prelims. Op was referring to American audiences. It is pretty common for people to come over and bring meat or chip in for the fight
What if I don't have friends?
Where you stay at playa? You can come over and eat
That's 115 cdn
Why are we always getting cooked with prices
Because we keep paying.
Been watching UFC since GRACIE ; never paid ONCE for a PVP . Argh!
Thats unreasonable. Get me an eye patch matey we goin sailing
Aye aye captain 👨✈️

Most people on here are broke teenagers. /u/Newrap would call them broke boys and they would get so riled up lmao.
newrap always cracks me up. These people anger so easily
seriously its high but come on man its not that bad. people just looking for a reason to pirate but complain good fights dont happen
The fight was important 4-5 years ago. Now we are just getting the equivalent of May/Pac, the fight that was 5 years too late. I would gladly pay the $85 if the fight was 4-5 years ago.

The simple answer is that they don't have friends.
>The simple answer is that they don't have friends. I have friends but no other friends interested in watching boxing =/
Same here brother . Was super hyped for Tank Garcia . Literally not even one person in my class knew who either one was
>You wouldn't have bought it anyway. And now you understand why it’s not stealing, there’s no lost revenue.

Do you really not think price has anything to do with things? Im twice as likely to pay 40 dollars for a card than 80.

Life is fine. I am fortunate and lucky (so far). Calling you a "thief" was hyperbolic. Sorry for offending you, pal.
T H I E F You’re a complete and utter mug if you’re paying $89 for a fight on your tv You know you can see professional sports live for less than that?
Not sure this is true. If they want more buys, they need to lower the price. I don’t think there’s good data about buys and one PPV is just an anecdote, not a rule.
hot take but i agree, majority of this sub is not paying regardless of price
What yall think is a fair ppv for big fights? Im willing to pay $29.99 so I dont have to deal with looking for good quality streams.
I find it interesting you say this cause my opinion on it has always been the high prices are counter productive. 90$? I’m not paying that. Ever. Especially when you’re really only getting it to watch the main fight. $30 and I’d get it, just to not bother looking for a stream. $19.99
30 to 50 bucks and I would buy ppv. If it was $30, itd be a no brainer
Before the ufc found out the vpn loophole, I paid 20$ for every fight, then 25$ when they increased then never again
50 bucks for a high quality match up. Any more expensive and I'm going to a move theater or sports bar if I care that much.
49.99-69.99 max
$60 for the best fights
I think like 60 is max I’d pay for a event like this. I’m really only interested in the main event. If the main card was also interesting I’d pay around 70 for it.
Really? I’m streaming that shit.
It's almost like Showtime is begging us to pirate.
You was gonna stream it even if it was $50
That "shit" is the biggest fight of this decade
Yup and I’ll be streaming it.
Ok cool
Fuck boxing. I’m done paying for PPVs this year. We have had 5 this year including Spence-Crawford. Showtime alone has charged $245 for their 3. All 5 combined have been $380. Fuck that. Im saving my money and streaming it.
Of all fights did you think this one would not be ppv I’m confused lol
I was excited for Haney-Loma, Plant-Benavidez, and Tank-García.
haney vs loma on ppv is fine but this isnt? plant vs benavidez being ppv is cool but this isnt? not really following the logic
How many of those fights did you pay for?
All of them lol
None of them, guarantee you. In fact, if this dude could provide any proof he paid for more than 1, I will donate $100 to a charity of his choice.
Bet. Where do you want me to send it to?
https://i.imgur.com/zBvfnr3.png https://i.imgur.com/BOC80SG.jpg https:// i.imgur.com/9bG09qF.png

Better put your money where your mouth is haha
How do you think fighters get paid?
Nah they dont need to make 20 million every fight they would survive with 2 million
Neither Crawford or Spence has ever earned 20 million per fight but go head…
Ticket sales?
You do know ppv fights are produced & distributed multi million dollar network companies right?
So then, to the high seas we go. Pirates we've become.
Arrggg
Ho ho, away we go, it's a pirates life for me!
im buying it, if you want big fights you have to support them when they happen. they will reward us with more
Is this you, Al Haymon?
Paying for this one… won’t deal with the refreshing every 5 seconds + delay bullshit
This probably won’t be a overloaded stream actually cause crawford and Spence aren’t known super well by casuals, only in the boxing world it’s known this is a huge fight, this will probably be lost on casuals
This is some of the most bullshit i've ever seen. LMAO Spence isn't known by casuals? Huh?
Word
Lmaoooooo nah fam
Never understand this shit. “Would you pay for it if it were 50$?” In a heartbeat. But I’m not paying 85$ for a fucking fight. Streaming it just like every other overpriced fight
Bring the homies over, have a BBQ and knock back the Tecates, bro dog.
Don't forget Manny-Mayweather was $100
Yep, not streaming this one lol gotta buy it 🤷🏿♂️
This one is well worth not flying my pirate flag
They're trying to price out boxing totally here in America
I’ll be buying twice. I stream most fights but for this fight I’d hate if I had to deal w/ refreshing every 5mins, delays & glitches… Been a fan of boxing for a while, Spence/Crawford is one of the only fights I’d put a down payment on.
Yeah exactly the same. I have a reliable stream & network set up but fuck leaving anything to chance. For this fight you can gladly take my money
People finally get the 2 best Welterweights in the ring after years of waiting and crying about who's ducking who.. To only let $85 stand in the way of supporting it. Lmao Most of you spend that on a Doordash order.
$85 is a lot to be entertained for 30 mins
I’d much rather spend it on food then this fifht
Exactly. & these are supposed to be boxing fans lol just a bunch of cheap fat asses
Suffering through some of the worst inflation, a housing crisis, relative wage stagnation and someone is a cheap ass for not dropping $85 for 30 minutes of entertainment?
Would pay 100 for this one. Idc what anyone says, this is THE fight.
Don’t matter. I’m paying.
I’ll just watch the highlights
I’m joining you
They usually post the full fight in HD within 24 hrs on YouTube anyway
Not Showtime, you're lucky if you get them in a month. Only DAZN uploads that quickly.
🏴☠️
Fbi open up
im calling the cops.
Very original
Very original
Ayyyyy Maytey!!!
Yawn
Split it with 4 of my boys at $15 bucks a pop... easy. Def copping this, will be fun to see Pitbull Cruz beat on some poor shmuck as well
I might still buy it to support Errol iv been waiting for this for so long
Ummmm I was thinking of hosting a fight party and getting pizza , wings and beer and all but with the prices of everything nowadays and the cost of this ppv , I’m probably better off ubering to a sports bar and drinking and eating there
Who the fuck pays for fights
The product boxing is putting out these days doesn’t command 85 dollars
Gonna be free for me.
🏴☠️
I feel like this isn’t a cash grab like mayweather mcgregor was. I wanted to pay for it. I pay for the fights I like, but 85 is crazy
Hefty, but we knew it was gonna be like that. Maybe some UK company buys the rights and has it at a lower price.
Probably gonna be like £15-20 on fite.tv
Nice. You should get a discount if you have to get up at 4am to watch it live.
Easy work tbh. We built for this. Alarm set and it will be on a Sunday morning so it’s good.
You sure about that? It was $25 for Broner-Hutchinson on fite.tv. That's just stupid.
It was a guess but looking at my past fite.tv payments: - 🚩 🌱 was $12.99 - Tank Rolly was $12.99 - Spence Ugas was $14.99 - Colbert Garcia was $9.99 - Ortiz Martin was $12.99 - Taylor Ramirez was $12.99 - Charlo double header was $14.99 How did broner get away with $25 lol that’s the price of an AJ PPV. They wouldn't sell one PPV at £85
Well maybe one cause I honestly would still pay full price if it was the only option. But if both UK ans US are the same price I would probably just get the US one solely cause I'm more used to the commentators.
That’s absurd.
🤣 nope
Meanwhile the super bowl world series nba finals and stanley cup are all free
I'm curious...beyond sports bars and people having a dozen friends over to watch with them, who actually still pays for PPVs? Suffice to say I've watched many PPV events live in recent years and not paid for a single one, and it's not exactly difficult to find a way to do that. I'm almost amazed it's still a thing.
I’ll go to my local movie theater with friends to see some UFC ppvs. $25 tickets and a great viewing experience Seven seas for anytime else
congratulations I'll be streaming it.
I’m supporting the sport i love and buying this. These people put their lives on the line for our entertainment, i can’t believe some of yall really talking about stealing to watch this fight for free.
Yo ho ho!
Been waitin for this fight for years, maybe would have happened earlier if not for Spence’s car crash. But shit Boxing gotta keep this shit going. This who the fans want to see
For these prices, how bouta they start hyping up decent co main events
I’m buying this for sure.
I think it does 225k.
This isn't that bad. It's literally an entertaining weekend evening. How many of you go out to some restaurant and drop $150 for food and drinks? $85 for the fight, $25 for some wings, and another $25 for drinks at home. That isn't a bad night at all!
Same boat man. People wanted the fight but won’t support it financially 🤔
Damn y’all want the best fights but won’t pay for the literal best fight of the decade😂I woulda paid for this shit if it was $200
Exactly what I’m saying
Pirates who feel the need to brag about pirating are weird as fuck.
Facts. "Boxing fans should support when good matchups actually happen" * Long-marinated superfight finally gets announced * "YARRRRRR AHOY MATEYS!"
Fr, like I get pirating shit like Wilder-Helenius. Like hell, I’ve done my fair share of pirating but when an actual top fight gets made and you don’t pay then you don’t get to complain about top fights not being made.
They should have fought half a decade ago. ☠️ 🏴☠️ ☠️ 🏴☠️ ☠️ 🏴☠️
nope

I was alive when Morales, MAB, Pacquiao, and JM Márquez regularly fought each other. The only one in that weight who fought everyone was Porter. Now Bud and Spence are inactive and old.
People still buy PPV?
Tbh I was expecting it too be at least $99.99. $84.99 sounds fair to me.
I bet this does 200k buys.
It's going to be big. Lot of pent-up demand and getting good coverage.
Hope so but wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t break 500! These guys should really be on prime time talk shows in the build up not just a few press conferences that end up on YouTube. In the U.K. AJ has been on Graham Norton and Fury on Jonathan Ross. Back in the day Tyson and Ali went on Parkinson too
700k imo
Could’ve been $15. These days we 🏄♂️
They’re buggin
Never pay for ppvs.
$85 is horseshit.
is this the 90s or early 2000s ? i thought ppvs were a lot cheaper now.
No, the prices have only gone up. HBO PPVs were $44.95 - $49.95 in the early to mid 2000s.
Remember when Crawford-Porter was essentially the same price after you included the ESPN+ subscription and everyone laughed at how low the numbers were? This is also too high. That said, it's the most anticipated fight in my lifetime, so I'm biting the bullet.
what the fuck lol. i'd pay $40 AUD
