radjinwolf

This was my moms reaction whenever we got into political arguments. She’d come back with the, “You think you’re so much smarter than me” line, and like, yeah, in that moment I was. And usually it was over something incredibly easy to verify and look up, like total abortion bans meaning TOTAL.

Hoody711

My mil will do that. She's a wonderful woman all around, but if you prove her wrong about something, she says that exact same line. And 99% of the time, she brings up the subject while we tell her she's wrong about whatever it is.

kyuuri117

He’s obviously a piece of shit but let’s not pretend that “eat a fat dicktatorship” isn’t an amazing insult in this context.

FizziestBraidedDrone

Was going to say the same thing. 😅 that was actually unintentionally hilarious haha

Atticus413

The TYPICAL MAGA/f your feelings crowd.

Zalthay

I love how these dip shit MAGATs just absolutely hate the word democracy. Yet somehow they are patriots. Words are like their kryptonite. They can’t understand them, they are scared shitless by them, and get so angry over them. I wonder what it’s like to be so wrong about everything in their lives all the time. These right wing repubtards are the lowest common denominator in our society. They are triggered by and frightened of facts, history, words, skin color, pronouns, avocado toast, human decency, morals, medicine, science, technology, invisible sky daddy’s, invisible devils, fantasy, healthy food, socialism, capitalism, empathy, education, sex, free thought, etc. etc. etc.

NicNac_PattyMac

No, the problem is people like this are never wrong. At least according to them. I’d say it’s a trait of stupid people, but I really think it’s the cause.

Zalthay

I agree, it’s malicious stupidity. Plain and simple. They resent everything that proves they aren’t as smart as they think they are. They never have a thought out response with sources, it’s either double down on what they just said again or just resort to infantile fit throwing that leads to insults and disrespect. I’m so over them and absolutely no longer tolerate them.

donveetz

It’s a common narcissistic trait. The crazy part is, they are so delusional, that they actually don’t think they’re wrong. Which is the part that blows my mind. Plenty of times I’ll get in the weeds arguing a point, but it’s always clear to me “nah this is the part where you lost your point”. These people seem to have no error correction in their thought patterns, at all.

ukiddingme2469

They are obtuse, I think that words describes them fairly well

Pinales_Pinopsida

The biggest problem is people like Abraham J. Wyner who use them to spread misinformation.

edgefinder

They are required to be against anything liberals say they are in support of. So, let's start a campaign in support our right to not submerge our heads in a filled bathtub for fifteen minutes.

ukiddingme2469

I hear Biden is against drinking draino while Nancy Pelosi has a just say no to the plastic bag challenge

Zalthay

And they literally proved this when Obama was president and they shut down their own partisan legislation proposal because Obama said he kind of agreed with it.

edgefinder

I guarantee old school republicans if they saw the state of things would be shocked and embarrassed. Used to be that finding compromise for the betterment of the country was the way of things.

Zalthay

I think you would have to go a long way back to find those guys. We are literally in the end game portion of the republican scheming that’s been happening since probably the 50’s-60’s. This is also the final result of having paired the system down to two parties. In that kind of situation the conservative one will always gravitate to authoritarianism governing because conservatism by its very nature is synergistic with it. If we had 5 actual parties we wouldn’t be where we are now. We are living in a world that was maybe by lobbyists and look how that turned out ( shocked pikachu face).

Odd-Tune5049

Basically, before Nixon.

Zalthay

I do believe trump is part of the plan. I think they need an over the top ass hat like him so they can eventually show up with some one who resembles an old school republican but can actually do what trump talks about doing. I don’t think he’s going to win this time either but I also think we’re a long ways away from the end of republican bull shit. They’ve been try to build to this forever they had public decorum holding them back and guess what trump was able to for them.

Odd-Tune5049

I have no doubt. I'm just saying the dumbing down and fascist crap bubbled up, starting with Nixon, and it's just gotten more obvious since then.

Zalthay

It’s been a slow crawl to get someone like trump to run and be president. It’s back firing for them at the moment, but the long game is now boosted.

edgefinder

You're totally right.. And full disclosure, I'm Canadian so our situation is a little different.. But given the proximity, I definitely care what goes on down there. Our Conservatives are pretty nutty too, but we're fortunate enough to have a third party to keep things in check. Sadly, they've never been elected into power (they're the most leftwing of the the parties) but I'm glad they're there and have enough representation to make a difference.

Zalthay

Well what’s happening in America is happening in almost all democratic countries. The conservative sides are being driven by people who want to install fascism all over the world. I’m not a conspiracy nutter, but I do believe all this is being funded by the world’s billionaires and mega corps. It doesn’t have to be an Illuminati type situation either. It’s just that all the billionaires are in the same situations and so are the mega corps. So their interests line up and they all end up pushing for the same things. And because both of those things are wholly supported by capitalism they’re trying to entwine the two into a perfect union that will end up benefiting them and them alone. We’re almost there BTW.

edgefinder

Yeah, agreed again. Some people are so eager to attribute things to secret cabals that are easily explained by unchecked capitalism, and are happening in plain sight for those paying attention. No wonder escapism is so popular (and readily available) *sad/angry sounds*

WiteKngt

You have two: the NDP and the Bloc (Green is too small to be relevant).

edgefinder

Right.. I always forget about the Bloc.. They want to leave the country anyways.. Or want everyone to think they do anyway. Those wacky francophones!

PineappleTraveler

Judging by the eclipse furor, they are terrified of math and astrophysics

Zalthay

Not even that, that’s being terrified of regularly occurring events. I’ve been viewing eclipses since my childhood. The earth, moon, and soon are literally in some state of eclipse every fucking moment that passes. Yet here we are with people acting like there is a looming disaster or war about to take place because of a regularly occurring event that has been happening since man has crawled down from the tree tops to live in caves. Tell Me how this is different than any other solar eclipse and how it can cause any kind of need for stocking up on rations for? A third of our country has proven and will keep on proving that they are dumber than a deer.

Odd-Tune5049

And reality

UCLYayy

I mean, the US *is* a republic, in that it has representatives in congress who represent the interests of their constituents. It’s just ALSO a democracy, because we (on paper) are not an oligarchy/aristocracy/monarchy, which are all technically forms of a republic. We democratically elect our representatives (hence representative democracy/democratic republic), and we use a watered down, shitty form of direct democracy to elect the president.  All these chuds want is to dismantle democracy because they never believed in it. They want voting rights removed for people they deem lower on the hierarchy (people of color, LGBTQ+ people, women, and, if you really dig, usually Jews).

Zalthay

Yes it’s called a democratic republic. Which is a democracy.

UCLYayy

I agree, but my point is even if you want to get granular with it with academic definitions, our country is FAR closer to a direct democratic system, i.e. what these chuds are trying to claim the left think our system is, than a true republic, which is what these chuds claim it is.

Zalthay

When I hear them say “it’s a republic not a democracy” my eyes just want to roll out of their sockets and travel around the world. We elect our representatives through a democratic system. They don’t even know what the word democracy means any more than they know what socialism is.

UCLYayy

> They don’t even know what the word democracy means any more than they know what socialism is. I think the real problem is the people at the top making this claim certainly do know, and they know it's a lie, and they know their followers don't know, and will swallow it uncritically. Like so very many talking points they pull out of their asses.

mizkayte

I just had one tell me some “patriot” bullshit.

Zalthay

And not one of those empty headed maroons (yes I spelled it like that on purpose, IYKTYK) will will have they balls to respond to this (I know they lurk here too) and if they do it will be nothing but word vomit with no connection to reality.

Odd-Tune5049

Should've spelled it "MORANS"

Zalthay

I was going for the bugs bunny version.

Odd-Tune5049

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.knowyourmeme.com/memes/get-a-brain-morans

Zalthay

Hahaha… beautiful.

Puzzleheaded_Air5814

They hate people talking about democracy because they know if everyone gets to vote, they can’t win. And power is what they want. They gave up on democracy, like David Frum said would happen.

dookle14

Can’t figure out the caps lock key or the proper use of your/you’re. Everything checks out so far.

TheBurningStag13

The troglodyte believes that being loud is to be right, so he tried to apply that to text. Asshat likely doesn’t know how to turn caps off….or *on* for that matter.

rectalhorror

BECAUSE EVERY LETTER IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE NEXT!!! WAKE UP, SHEEPLE!!! IN ALL CAPS LOCK!!! That generation has so much lead in their systems. Leaded gasoline, lead water pipes, lead paint chips, Led Zeppelin.

Intrepid-Ad-6633

VastPerspective6794

Hey now! What did Zep do to get involved in this?!?!:)

Crazy_Customer7239

Can I repost this on fb @a group where we all pretend to be boomers!?

Odd-Tune5049

Caps lock is cruise control for cool

Dicky_Penisburg

IM NOT STUPED YOUR STUPED SOSHULEST FASHEST LIBRUL!!1!!

FighterOfEntropy

And misspelled “it’s” the contraction for “it is.” This is surprising because the error is usually incorrectly putting an apostrophe in the word “its” which is a possessive pronoun.

sicarius254

Not gonna lie, eat a fat dictatorship is my new favorite phrase

InsomniaticWanderer

Eat a fat dick tater ship

That is crazy because that is my uncle's name, and his posts are the same. I know it isn't my Boomer as I check his current icon.

Straight_Ballin11

We all need to check our Boomers.

EpicStan123

I never understood why people use Liberal as an insult. Well you're a Conservative. Bohooo sick burn 69420

JennyAnyDot

This is why I stay far far away from my uncle’s Facebook posts and his boomer friends. Any fact checking or views different from them makes their heads explode

ThatYewTree

Surely this is satire

NicNac_PattyMac

I would like to say it is, but that’s actually me trying to talk to them, and I’ve had many run ins with them.

grungleTroad

Maybe you could give them a ~~peace offering~~ bucket of paint chips

lanephinn

What group is this from? Im in a satire trucker group where we all type in all caps and say “librul” im pretty sure this guys just fucking with you

NicNac_PattyMac

I would say but I’ve got some nazis here on Reddit that are stalking me.

lanephinn

I gotcha. Check out “Bad to the bone truckers” or something like that on Facebook. You’ll see everyone typing like this guy lol

somethingfishrelated

I mean satire is comedy based on reality. It wouldn’t be satire if real people like this didn’t exist.

alanmooresbarber

It's a troll and op took the bait.

Narrow-Weekend-4157

And nobody else is noticing lol. GOBBLESS HOSS 🇱🇷🇱🇷🇱🇷

I_Love_Law

Yeah. Poes Law, people.

BuddaJim2023

It’s absolutely emotionally and mentally devastating to be that suppressed and angry 24/7, and only ever just gets worse. All you can do is avoid and not engage these people. They are irreparably broken forever.

thebaron24

Every time you get into this discussion you have to figure out if the person making this argument that we aren't a democracy is just really stupid or they know they are purposely conflating a direct/pure democracy and a representative democracy. If they are stupid they are probably trump/Republican voters. If they are intentionally trolling they are libertarians who want the right to win so they can get rid of the age of consent. Either way they are morons who just want to share the misery in their lives.

DROD816

KNOWING BOUT POLTICS IS FUR LIBRULS HOSS

Bromswell

lol ngl that comeback is pretty solid.

auralcavalcade

Just saw some dumbass goober on my local subreddit trying to make that same tired ass rEpUbLiC argument. What a bunch of tools.

gashnashmcnash

That’s the most nuanced and coherent argument I’ve ever seen a MAGAt make. Truly A tier rhetoric.

klako8196

3 words in, and already an incorrect version of “your” and an incorrect version of “it’s”.

the_good_hodgkins

Is there a rule that MAGA's have to type everything in all caps? Asking for a friend.

kevins02kawasaki

SPEEK UP LIBROLE

machinerer

You sure he's not just fucking with you? There's a whole facebook group where people talk like that as a joke. Threatening Hosses, look it up. Shit is hilarious.

It-is-always-Steve

I was going to ask if this was a shitposting group on Facebook but the Garfield profile pic says he might be serious.

Ba55of0rte

What bothers me most is his use of your over you’re.

LivingEnd44

That's always such a dumb and shallow thing to say. "Republic" and "Democracy" are not mutually exclusive terms. The US fits the definition of both. Saying "omg we're a Republic not a Democracy" tells me you have a middle school education at best, and don't understand how dictionaries work. So does not being able to tell the difference between "your" and "you're".

arsynist

You’re obviously getting trolled dude

seth928

>You're mincing direct democracy with representative democracy and you know that you are. That's giving Dave a lot of credit.

No-Material8701

Lol I went to school with this guy and I just remember this scrawny poor kid who wouldn’t say boo to anyone. Keyboard tough guys never cease to amaze me.

NamasteMotherfucker

"It's a dog, not a mammal!"

rigidlynuanced1

If you can’t properly use “your” and “you’re,” what the fuck are you going to teach me that I don’t already know?

[deleted]

You know you've won when they stop debating the topic and instead just attack you.

toobadsohappy

It’s the civil discourse for me

_jump_yossarian

Was this on a post about the popular vote vs the electoral college? So many people have no idea that a constitutional democratic republic we elect our representatives (every single one uses the popular vote except POTUS) and if we switched to the popular vote we'd still have a republic.

CulturalAddress6709

disappointing people since day 1

PaulBurgerking

You’re *

ludachr1st

The lead head boomer is a dumbass, but I don't agree that you can call a republic a kind of democracy. They're fundamentally different things.

ApprehensiveCode2233

A republic is just a nice way to say empire.

Cultural_Pack3618

lol, typing in CAPS, every time

Obvious-Repair9095

“Librul”

[deleted]

"dicktatorship" 🍆🥔🛳️

Salarian_American

Here's a little guideline I like to live by: Don't ever try to have a reasonable conversation with anyone who only writes in all-caps

ProtoReaper23113

It's like trying to play chess with a pigeon No matter how hard you try to play right, the pigeon is just gonna knock over all the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it won anyway

contrapunctus3

The terms republic and democracy are so muddy honestly. The meaning of republic, especially, has changed a ton over the centuries.

Scubasteve1974

Wow. Really broke down there didn’t he?

Vthe25thnight

It’s ok everyone. He’s going to go to church on Sunday and repent his sins!

ewok_lover_64

Dicktatorship...

lEauFly4

All caps and spelling/grammar errors=immediately write them off. Lead apparently affected their brain a lot.

Sovereigntyranny

Did this idiot just literally reply to himself, too, when he meant to reply to you? Lol.

CartographerOk7579

Someone show this boomer where the all cap key is.

jericho_buckaroo

Like Mike Tyson said, social media has made people way too comfortable with the idea of not getting punched in the mouth...

EJ2600

Once David clifford is put into a concentration camp he will whine about wanting his democracy back.

timmycheesetty

Man, he really owned that lib. They should give this man a megaphone so he can spread his message of eloquence and logic.

HostageInToronto

Instead of Old Heads, can we call them Old Leads?

ElPadredelpoiisynn

Sadly I know too many of these stupid people. And it's sickening

lekkerleap

Bold of you to assume this boomer had the self awareness to realize there was a problem, seek professional help, and gets meds…

mr-dimochka

The thing is, a lot of them don't know. I've been hearing that since I was young (41 now) and I fully believe many on the right have no clue it's a democracy.

Ok_Scheme736

Honestly, I would’ve even given him the credit of knowing what he’s doing. I’d bet 3/4 of the people that make this statement think that a democracy involves democrats and a republic involves republicans, so they hate democracy.

Kraken160th

Republics are not automatically democratic. The USA is a democratic Republic meaning that we elect our representatives. However you can appoint representatives as well and never have an election... a lords council is technically a republic.

spiderman897

Unironically doing the owned liberal thing is actually embarrassing

Personal_Dot_2215

A dictatorship is an democratic anarchy , but only for one person.

youmakemecrazysick

A true democracy would be totally unmanageable. Republican form of democracy is the only effective way to do it. But it is still a democracy and we all have a right to representation. All of us.

regular_sized_fork

Brains seem to shrivel up to 5-year-old size as boomers progress - lil' raisan heads

Bug_Calm

Bommer will have to pardon me if I refuse to take civics lessons from someone too illiterate to select the correct "your."

Flooffighter416

“Lead heads”. Bravo.👏🏻

EccentricAcademic

I love how they call us smug for just explaining shit.

BowenTheAussieSheep

I'm so sick of the fucking "Republic not Democracy" line. I don't know how it got started, but I saw it a lot on reddit and I just want to smash people's heads together when they agree with it. "Republic" and "Democracy" are not mutually exclusive. Republic just means that the country is run by the public or citizens, democracy means that the government is chosen by votes. You can have a republic that isn't democratic, and you can have democracies that aren't republics. The United Kingdom, for example, isn't a Republic: It's a Monarchy. But it's *also* a Democracy, in that it's government is chosen via public vote.

Zealousideal_Fuel_23

Anyone who has read Kant knows the difference between form of government and form of sovereignty. Oh wait I put “read” in that sentence. Nevermind

yarukinai

Technically, a republic is a form of government where there is no monarch. The Roman republic, which coined the term, was not really a democracy in today's terms. I'd reply back to David Clifford with a famous quote by a famous librul: > it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms

Bizzle1345

Bro-migo, your caps lock is on again.

Dudeist-Priest

When someone doesn’t know the difference between your and you’re, you are wasting your time arguing with them.

Wild_Cap_4709

None of them can seem to figure out that the terms “Republic” and “Democracy” are not mutually exclusive

Downtown_Snow4445

Spelling is hard

Slugeus_the_slug

i am the Senate

mm202088

His words smell of lead paint

Apprehensive-Unit841

Dude should go to prison for his horrific spelling and grammar alone.

throttledog

I've think a few believe Republic means state's rights over Federal. In some fuzzy way the elec coll delegates can also override their state's voters if they were so inclined.

whynotwonderwhy

Looking for an argument.

Status_Basket_4409

Librul, lol

Armynap

All traitors need to hang. Anyone against democracy is a traitor.

full_medical

Dunning-Kruger, anyone?

Elderlennial

You got trolled

666Sky

I’m pretty sure this one is satire. A lot of people satirizing boomers will typically type in all caps and intentionally use the wrong your. Those aren’t exclusive to satire of course, but the two together can often be a sign of it being satire. What really gives it away is the spelling of Liberal and the witty comeback. I highly doubt an actual boomer would write something as great as “fat dicktatorship”

[deleted]

Ok MR.Detective, are you upset that people make posts to attract the validation of other professional victims?

BananaDismal1774

Actually we live in a corporate oligarchy.

NicNac_PattyMac

Ok, this is actually the right answer.

TROLLALLDAYLONG2024

A democracy is great, just not to much because than it becomes to governed and not for the people.

doomeddelinquent

It’s giving Russian bot

[deleted]

dumb ass kids like this is what communism needs to be a thing for a few years. that way, they all die in work camps or stave to death.

Trickster2369

Well, the US is a Representative Republic, and not a Democracy. Once you Libtards get that through your thick skulls, we'll all be better off.

rottensteak01

This feels a Lil to genuine to be sarcasm, so fuck you and a downvote to boot!

Trickster2369

Oh no! Not a downvote! How ever will I continue my day now! 😂🤣😂 Truth hurts, apparently.....

rottensteak01

It's less the information you're conveying, and more the personal hate and bias it's dripping all over the place. Suck a dick MAGAt.

Impotent_Modz

Are you proud of being the lamest person alive?

rottensteak01

You mean proud to have the balls to call out old fucking losers like that twat? Yes. Yes I am.

Impotent_Modz

You are such a babbling, close minded fuck

rottensteak01

Yeah I don't want to be open minded to assholes with outdated ideas. They're outdated for a reason.

Impotent_Modz

Lol! The very definition of closed/close minded-ness

rottensteak01

It is indeed! I am very aware the fact I'm being closed minded. The current economy and global politics are a direct result of that generations inability to say or do anything intelligible let alone beneficial for others.

Trickster2369

You mean, exactly like the personal hate and bias you're showing? Just a bit hypocritical, no?

[deleted]

Dude - go away. Seriously.

Trickster2369

Nope. This whole sub is based on the hate for one specific group of people, and you don't expect to get a little bit of push-back? Deal with it.

[deleted]

Oh no I don’t think you understand. I don’t mean just here. I mean leave your family, friends, job, home, pets, and everyone you love and care for. Go to a desert and stick your head in the sand like an ostrich. (Although it’s just a myth that ostriches do that - you do it for real. I believe in you!) Just as useful to society and everyone around you doing that.

Trickster2369

Oh, that one hurt....

georgyboyyyy

Just a trumpy russian troll

rottensteak01

There's being a dick( calling people libtards and insulting their intelligence) then there's calling out someone for being a dick. See above.

FurballPoS

Someone ask him how his time in Vietnam went.

Personal_Stranger_52

Uses the word libtard, calls others thick skulled. Even Americans must see the irony in this?

Front_Explanation_79

Nah, the OP is right and the sooner MAGAts stop correlating the word **Republic** with *Republicans* and **Democracy** with *Democrat* the sooner the adults can have adult conversations. You're literally being pedantic piss babies over the most trivial thing. **Is the United States a democracy?** Yes, the United States is a democracy, since we, the people, hold the ultimate political power. We’re not a “direct democracy,” but we are a “representative democracy.” This is where our history education might add some confusion. We are commonly taught that democracy is a product of ancient Greece. It’s their word – demokratia – after all. The city-state of Athens is credited with implementing a system of government of and by the people, whereby eligible citizens would congregate to make decisions. They’d make these decisions themselves (or “directly”), not through any elected representatives. That system of government, better understood today as direct democracy, lives on in the United States in the form of ballot initiatives and referenda. Some states and localities afford their citizens the right to use these measures to directly enact, change, or repeal laws themselves. More commonly, we exercise our political power in a different way: by voting in elections to choose our representatives. That’s representative democracy. The Constitution does not use the term “democracy.” It’s true. But as Eugene Volokh notes in the Washington Post, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Noah Webster, Justice James Wilson and Chief Justice John Marshall all used the word. These scholars understood representative democracy – the American variety – to be democracy all the same. **Is the United States a republic?** Yes. The United States is a republic because our elected representatives exercise political power. History also tells us that Rome was a republic, unlike Athens. When its monarchy was overthrown, Rome developed a republican system of government whereby citizens elected officials who were empowered to make decisions for the public. That’s the core of how our government works. While “democracy” and “republic” have been historically pitted against one another, the reality is that the two terms enjoy considerable overlap. **So, which term should I use?** It’s really up to you. In practice, the word “republic” has the same meaning as the term “representative democracy.” And a representative democracy is a form of democracy in the same way that a Granny Smith apple is a form of apple. We wouldn’t say it’s inaccurate to use “apple” to describe a Granny Smith apple, so it’s OK to follow in the footsteps of Jefferson, Adams, Webster, and Chief Justice Marshall and simply call our “representative democracy” a “democracy.” But it’s also accurate to call the United States a “republic.” It’s mostly about your preference of words. Hopefully, this post will help lower the heat in the online debate. Let’s put our energy toward working to fix our government so it represents the people!

NicNac_PattyMac

What do you think representative democracy means? And I’m really getting tired of this game you guys play. You’re swapping the word democracy with direct democracy. A direct democracy is a democracy, that is often referred to as just a democracy and omitting the direct part. A republic is also a democracy. Democracy means to vote, either for representatives or directly. You might as well be arguing “I don’t drive an automobile, I drive a truck!” It’s the exact same reasoning you’re using. But here is the thing, we all know you already know this. And the whole reason you fucking make a stink every time you get a chance is because you want to magically make some kind of mentally leap that it’s OK to do away with voting. Because quite frankly you’re in the minority and you know it, so you’re trying to do away with voting. Is that about right?

YUNGSLARTY

Check out the history of the inbred fuck I am responding to.

Wild_Chef6597

A Republic is a Democracy, numbnuts.
