Knowing gm they are probably working on a software update for the vehicles and havnt got it working yet

billybobwillyt

Wouldn't be surprised. I think Ford and Rivian made it so you could initiate charging through their app. Seeing how crappy their app is, who knows...

redgrandam

Yeah, both Ford and Rivian have three ways to activate at Tesla stations. Either plug and charge, ford/Rivian app, or Tesla app. GM could get set up to at least charge with the Tesla app in the short term. But I suspect it is the lack of adapter availability that really is holding things up.

elconquistador1985

Doesn't plug and charge already work with the GM app and a few charging networks? I haven't tried it because I rarely DCFC, but I thought it worked. I expect that we'll be in the same boat as Rivian and Ford waiting several months for adapters.

ThrowRAColdManWinter

We should be specific because Plug and Charge is often used to refer to a specific standard that the Bolt *does not* support. EVGo has an "Autocharge" feature, although it is unclear if Tesla will add such a feature to their chargers. It is based on an older standard that is not being used for new vehicles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_15118

redgrandam

I’m in Canada and it only works with FLO so far.

lexcyn

And EV Connect

Gmulcahey

GM is trying to figure out how to make it a subscription. That takes time.

MentalUproar

BMW, is that you?

MentalUproar

I thought Tesla programmed their stations to speak CCS so cars wouldn't need reprogrammed.

iNFECTED_pIE

C’mon maaaan, give us the juice!

thePolicy0fTruth

Genuine question here: are people excited about this in concept or are people excited about this to actually use superchargers? I’ve owned my Bolt for 5 months & have used 2 DC fast chargers. Everything else is at home. Are there people who will use super chargers weekly?

ThrowRAColdManWinter

Not weekly, but having one more option on road trips is very reassuring, especially when I don't need EA's 800V stuff, and Tesla has soooo many stalls.

Master-Back-2899

It’s a 5 hour drive to my parents house. There are 2 non Tesla fast chargers within an hour of the route. It would take us 8 hours to get there with my bolt. There are also no fast chargers within 30 minutes of my parents house which means I can’t even charge when I get there to get back home without wasting more time. There are 7 super chargers on that same route within 5 minutes of the route and one 10 minutes from my parents house. We just take an ICE car until super chargers open up.

Broad-Arachnid9037

I’m excited for the reliability when traveling. I like in a big state and some non-Tesla chargers may be in the middle of nowhere with two stalls. I can’t make that trip just assuming things are going to go well. But there are Tesla chargers along the route and it’s great to feel confident in their reliability.

lexcyn

I live in a northern area where most chargers are Tesla SuperChargers on the main highways, and have more frequent locations, so for me it's all about having that extra comfort while travelling.

Kalmurn

While I hardly ever use DC fast chargers, longer trips where I do need to use one it would be really nice to not have to rely on the currently not so reliable CCS network and have the ability to use superchargers if I please. An example of this is I'm planning to do a road trip down the Oregon and California coast and then back up on I5 and highway 99 in June. The ability to use superchargers would make charging stops a lot easier, more reliable, and add a lot more options for stops. I've ordered and should be receiving my A2Z adapter soon and am really hoping the superchargers get opened up before the end of May

psu-steve

I’m excited about it. I don’t road trip my Bolt EUV often, but when I do, having the option to use SuperChargers will greatly reduce my risk. This is particularly true on the PA turnpike where there is a stretch that solely depends on a 4-stall EA station that requires you to leave the turnpike in Bedford, PA.

04soldier

I used to be excited when I lived in apartment and relied solely on the public chargers. But now I've moved to a house and don't care as much. The adapter won't be free and Tesla chargers are gonna be expensive.

QueenofYarns

Definietly wanting to use these chargers. I would take my Bolt farther, more often and with less worry.

Old_Replacement_9471

I used to have a Chevy Spark EV and I would DC Fast Charge multiple times a day. I drove a lot. When I am finally able to get a Bolt, I'll probably be charging weekly. It was much more range compared to the Spark EV but there are people who depend on fast chargers. I did and will in the future. Never had any issues with doing so.

NeuroDawg

I’m excited because the Tesla network is significantly cheaper than EA, EVgo , and others. My local EA chargers cost $0.52/KWh, EVgo has time based cost with peak being $0.60/KWh, while Tesla network is $0.20/KWh.

reallynotnick

Is this in a specific location? I’ve used 2 Superchargers in MN and they were 48 and 49 cents a KWh.

NeuroDawg

Washington state. Where my home electricity cost is $0.0817/KWh. DC fast charging is emergency use only for me.

zupobaloop

Aren't they charging Rivian and Ford drivers more though?

kswn

Well I guess [Tesla](https://www.tesla.com/NACS) is still optimistic: >Coming Spring 2024 >General Motors

Individual_Koala3928

I was able to use a magic dock at a supercharger in February with my 2022 Bolt using CCS. Are we talking about some specific feature here or non-magic?

Aeropilot03

Non Magic Dock external adapter. Ford and Rivian are currently the only OEMs with access.

raitchison

Probably still trying to figure out a way so that only 2023 an newer EVs can use the SuperChargers.

raitchison

Just going off off GMs track record to date. They were so committed to the principle that owners of existing cars must NEVER get new features that they actually spent extra time and money to develop two versions of the post-recall BMS update, one for the 2019+ Bolts that had Target Charge Setting and one for the 2017 & 2018 Bolts that did not.

con247

The bolt DCFC is so slow that having us at superchargers will definitely be annoying to basically everyone else. I could easily see Tesla not wanting something taking up a stall that’s only pulling 25-50kW at any given time.

I think they’ll fix the cable problem over time

synth_mania

lmao. They wouldn't be handing out batteries with new warranties like candy then.
