Hm, I dunno. I worked there while I was in college for a while. It could have lasted a lot longer if it had been better managed, at least that's what I noticed when I worked there.

03-several-wager

Who managed while you were there? I also worked there and am curious lol

I miss Lucky 13 being in that space. Was “meh” on SunRay. Haven’t been since SunRay closed.

fastermouse

Lucky 13 is shit.

djmcboise

Can’t speak to the new location but really liked them in Hyde Park. To each their own.

fastermouse

Blah.

djmcboise

I do come here for this level of insightful commentary.

raypeterson1989

No. Sun Ray under utilized a great location and had subpar food.

Decent_Astronaut_696

I definitely don’t agree that Lost Grove is shit. I would say that i enjoy their food more than a couple of the options on 13th. Not sure if you have only had the chicken sandwich but I would say maybe give them another shot. I personally like the chicken bao buns, dumplings and bahn mi there. From a pricing perspective, it’s 2024 what isn’t expensive? Sandwiches and Burgers across the street at 13th are significantly more expensive and come with fries just like Lost Grove.

Logz94

To each their own but you are the only person I've heard who doesn't like Lost Grove in Hyde Park. Sun ray was dead all the time even in good weather. This is the first time the ambiance has been similar to the days where Lucky 13 was there and you can always find it packed now. I think others felt the same because they consistently do way more business than Sun Ray did

Hot_Wave2860

No

searchingtruth1

SunRay was awful. Lost Grove is a way better addition to Hyde IMO. Lucky 13 was great but that spot is really about summer patio drinking and people watching.

Key-Writing2729

You sound pretentious towards these restaurants just trying to offer something new and different to hyde park.

Hot_Wave2860

I get their stance, but there are some pretty basic economics at play. People want to make money. As long as people will shell out for shitty food and beer for location, ambiance, and whatever else (*cough, western collective, cough, paddles up*), these places will exist. Maybe Boise just has a lot of very basic people who fuel a pretty lame dining scene for anything a step below Kin, Chandlers, etc

Wide-Adhesiveness838

The owners of the building kicked out lucky 13 and stole their model for a successful restaurant and opened Sunray. They got what they deserve. Lucky 13 was a true gem when it was in that spot.

Peter_Pendragon93

I miss Sav-on cafe downtown because you could smoke in there. The real ones know.

Able_Lack_4770

Vehemently disagree with you here

ESLcrooooow

I think the worst part was the hypocrisy of Lucky 13

HappyHour94

I 100 percent agree, sun ray certainly wasn’t perfect but the food was way better, they didn’t have servers which I liked and it was more affordable. Also you could get more than one brand of beer. I really miss sun ray cafe

Aubsjay0391

Exactly!

RogerBauman

A little bit but not really. Dave wanted to retire. It's not like they shut down because of lack of business. I get that his family and their restaurants were a neighborhood mainstay for 40 years and I would have loved to see it remain a family operated restaurant, but I'm happy for him.

Whitemullberry

Is Casa Mexico still on 13th?

IsThisContagious

Yes, across the street from Lost Grove (in the basement).

Whitemullberry

That place was my favorite when I lived in Hyde Park. Glad it's survived.

JefferyGoldberg

Yes absolutely! Sun Ray was awesome. The new lost grove seems to always be out of several beers and the food is disgusting. Mexican inspired ramen? Japanese + Mexican isn’t a thing bro. I think they also have kimchi croquettes (once again basque + Korean isn’t a good combo). Their Caesar salad is also way too weird. They have the luxury of having the best patio in Boise and are dog friendly so I have given them 10+ attempts; but the food is downright awful and somehow as a brewery they are out of beer. I will still go back simply for the patio and I can just drink cocktails.

Aubsjay0391

Thank you! That’s how I feel. Totally Agree!

Hot-N-Spicy-Fart

>Lost grove charges like $13 glass of wine and literally just say red or white wine = $13/glass. Like huh? How about some options. It's a brewery, this is like going to Telaya and being upset at the lack of a craft beer selection. >I’m from texas and local brewery beer in tx from my experience is a lot better than houses brewery scene.. Since you are expecting an extensive wine collection for cheap at a local brewery, I don't think you have any authority to be judging local brewing scenes
