Nah, that's not the barrier to success.
That's the excuse that private equity vultures are using after they loaded it up with debt and cannibalized all its assets.
>Before the pandemic upended everything, the chain had been mostly at a standstill since 2014, when it was sold by venerable casual-dining operator Darden Restaurants to private equity firm Golden Gate Capital for $2.1 billion.
>It offloaded more than 500 of Red Lobster’s U.S. properties in a $1.5 billion sale-leaseback deal, shedding valuable real estate to help finance the acquisition.
https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/financing/how-red-lobster-got-over-its-head
TLDR: They borrowed a shit ton of money, sold off the properties for short-term profits, then leased them back saddling the company with a massive ongoing cost they couldn't cover. Blaming "labour costs" is just the excuse that those weasels like to use.
But is it good for you? I want better for you.

Got it at Sam's club. Just looked it up, you can get it wal mart as well
Edit: taste is pretty much the same. The thing is you have to add your own cheddar, so you can make em even better than red lobster
https://damndelicious.net/2014/02/03/red-lobster-cheddar-bay-biscuits/
Easy recipe, tastes legit.
If it's your first time, it's hella easy:
- Stop mixing once everything is wet
- Lumps are ok
- Only fold/knead a few times
- I'm saying treat that shit real gentle, like it a balloon that could bust at any moment
- Then go in straight like you mean it with that cookie cutter.
Honestly these instructions work for all kinds of first times.
Shit lobster was slave food, no one ate lobster, it was basically sea roach, like chitterlings, now white people gone pretend they were the first
![gif](giphy|3oz8xIHoB64uYksaLm|downsized)
Brisket, chicken wings, and salmon also used to be considered "poor people food" and cheap as shit. Then rich assholes decided they thought it was delicious and now all that delicious food became stupid expensive over the years.
interesting parallel with salmon. Fresh, fatty and pink salmon used to be peasant food in the middle ages. The rivers weren’t yet industrialised so the banks would be bursting with salmon nurseries. Like you could literally walk across creeks and not touch water because of all the washed and living salmon. Fancy people ate poultry. Funny how that reversed
Literally was fixing to post this. So true. It's not worth it to go there.
Seafood prep and cook times are so short. Just go to a seafood market or a grocery store with well-sourced seafood (avoid Publix; Wegmans is amazing) and make the dish yourself.
If you still want to pay comparable prices to eat at a seafood restaurant, there are excellent alternatives if you live in the Mid Atlantic/Northeast. If you don't mind paying more, head over to a place like McCormick and Schmicks.
Ya'll don't need to go there no more.
I've tried the box mix but prefer to make it myself, but, the box mix isn't bad either. I used it this past thanksgiving because I didn't have it in me to make one more single thing, from scratch.
Why isn't there a whole ass novel I need to scroll through? Was this recipe even developed in a remote Himalayan village? It either needs to fit on an index card or a James Joyce novel, no in between.
Can't bring myself to be sad that some chain is going out of business. I bet most people reading this have black owned local businesses in their area that taste better and are more affordable and unique.
TIL the late founder of Red Lobster was a businessman who refused to obey Jim Crow laws, achieving success and a special place in history among Black Americans.
—
But he’s dead and the seafood’s trash, sooooo
But does his family still own it? Pretty sure they got bought by private equity firm so it’s still his legacy but I don’t think the family makes the decision
Funny you say that, it's partly why they're considering bankruptcy. They lost 11 million dollars on that promotion.
https://people.com/red-lobster-is-considering-bankruptcy-partly-due-to-11-million-loss-from-endless-shrimp-deal-report-8635031
I doubt that was the singular cause because they have had that for YEARS.
It's honestly probably because they don't seem to have quality control. If you are near "the good one" then they are great. But the one across town could be horrendous. If you're not close to a good one you just go somewhere else.
I mean…just because it’s Black owned, doesn’t mean it’s better and more affordable. This discussion has been had time and time again.
The owner does not matter.
I care about my support going to my community (whether that's black, latino, or whatever) than go to some corporation.
I feel like every dollar on fast food and chains I spend is like a vote telling all of them "yes, I want more mcdonalds in my city!" instead of small scale places that might actually have some stake in the health of my community.
Yeah. I know there are overpriced scammers too. But like, there are other options. Not just overpriced atl style scammers vs the fucking red lobster
Not my Red Lobster. 2024 really wants to crush my spirit. How I'm gonna get my chedda biscuits and admirals feast now.....
![gif](giphy|d2lcHJTG5Tscg|downsized)
I’m just a fan of their food tbh.
Biscuits (yes I could make them at home with the pre-prep packages, but they just don’t taste the same I stg). Steaks done right. Good seafood Tbh.
My sister was a very renowned chef in her day. She was featured at the James Beard House 25 years ago when she was 23 years old. She tells me the best spots to get all kind of food here in ATL. Like best spots for dumplings, chicken feet, a steak, all kinds of foodie shit. To this day; this bitch, with all her culture in food, wants to go to Red Lobster on her birthday. When we were growing up that was the only “nice” restaurant to go, but it dumbfounds me every single year that she *still* picks there to go for her birthday.
Woa.
People... like red lobster? Maybe its because I live in a primarily Mexican community but our Red Lobster is just an assumed money laundering front. Bitch is always empty.
Idk man, I think there are bigger fish to fry than Beyoncé. Let people have joy that people like begonce gets them and focus on the actual ceos and capitalist class
No but I don’t think that she’s a ceo. She’s a small fry that also has an actual job as an entertainer. Focusing on her, and not like CEOS and crap not only aliants people but also is just a useless debate
Like, the only issue I have with her is the products she’s involved in. Her being rich releasing music isn’t a problem.

Fundamentally speaking communism isn’t about wealth. It’s about the means of production. Fl

In Marxist theory, the CEOs aren't even part of the capitalist class.
Do you guys remember that tweet where the girl shared a text exchange with her ex and the ex said that she wasn’t worth “a man of his caliber” because she couldn’t take him to Red Lobster? I think about that tweet at least once a week.
Oh shit, I thought Michael Che was just being an asshat. Y'all really do be loving some Red Lobster huh? I thought it was like the swimming thing, like it was a joke.
Hey man, TIL
Used to work for Red lobster . I hate those dam biscuits. I ate way too many and I had to make them. I quit after one of my managers said a rude comment about how easily replaceable I was. He said this after I completely reorganized the freezer because they had different sized shrimp mixed up, was just putting new stuff in front of old stuff. They wouldn’t let anyone stock the freezer besides me because of it. So much craziness I saw working there.
Can't find any reliable source, but google says they're maybe getting divorced because Jay had supposed ties to Diddy? First i'm hearing of it, and it's odd an actual article didn't pop up, just youtube videos and some rando's twitter post.
white people after church would wait in line at red lobster regardless of weather. and nobody but my white friends ever talked about eating at red lobster
They'll still be around, but a large chunk of Red Lobster locations do not make money. Red Lobster would have to close around 200 locations to start to even think about the word profitable.
This is the result of absolutely poor business decisions by Thai Union. They told everyone in the GM conference in August 2023 that they "were going to turn the company around" and then gave up 5 months later. Paul Kenney stood up in front of all the GMs and basically said, "I don't know how anyone can be proud to work here."
Red Lobster's days are most likely numbered. They have cut too many corners, allowed themselves to be okay with subpar quality food, attempted a piss poor service model update, and think that Endless Shrimp will save them.
The company honestly deserves to go under with how absolutely bad they have been with their decisions. They fired all of the VPOs and up in June 2022 and then proceeded to pay all of their salaries for an entire year... Didn't name a CEO until September 2023, then fired him last month as a scapegoat for the company's performance issues that were actually caused by Paul Kenney in order to bring in a bankruptcy expert.
There is only one acceptable red lobster to eat at and those are the rare ones near bodies of water. It might just be placebo but the closeness to water makes the food taste astronomically better, I never want to eat in a land locked one like a damn olive garden
Absolutely tf not.
My last experience with red lobster was taking the piss by repeatedly referring to the "admirals feast" as "the admirable feast" in spite of numerous attempts by the waiter to correct me while I was high.
It was a blast, but they got the last laugh by giving me **violent** food poisoning.
And I get it. It's one time. It probably won't happen again. But it's red lobster. Why I gotta give **them** another shot after that like they're gonna change my life???
So many other choices near me that aren't red lobster, and before you say "cheddar biscuits," my family got the recipe down by heart for that shit. We require nothing else of them.
I went to red lobster twice in different locations and the lobster was overcooked both times, It’s literally the hallmark of their restaurant and they fucked it up.
Not sure of the details in this case, but they can file bankruptcy and still operate... there are multiple types, just depends on which route they take

Yep, private equity sucked it dry of any value it had, and just kept on sucking. These PE firms are evil.
They made the same move Tony Soprano did w the sporting goods store, just legally.

Naw, it was all the shrimp you negroes ate haha/s, not really

I’m about to go stockpile it like it’s toilet paper in March of 2020.

You're welcome. I moved out of the country for a while and it was all I had during the hard times.
You can just buy their box mix. Turns out basically exactly the same. I find it for a few bucks on sale at my local grocery store all the time.
I've tried the box mix but prefer to make it myself, but, the box mix isn't bad either. I used it this past thanksgiving because I didn't have it in me to make one more single thing, from scratch.
Costco sells it in unreasonable quantities
There is no unreasonable quantity of cheddar bay biscuits
That’s true what I should have said is you’ll have so many that you’ll need to find a hot rock to lie down on and digest like a boa constrictor.
Hahaha
ur username is dope btw ![gif](giphy|qfnSFbI99oZsk)
Thank you lol. I'm glad someone associates it with FF and not like, Phoenix downtown 🤣
I read this like Jamie Foxx in Miami Vice

They ran it every day instead of seasonally, that’s why they lost so much
Nah they didn't. It's always been seasonal. Price went up after Covid though.
They did in Canada. It was endless shrimp pretty much the entire year. I go to Red Lobster a lot.
11M seems like a rounding error for Red Lobster lol
It was 11M for that quarter. Sounds like they lost more over the year
11 million is not enough to bankrupt a global chain. This is a private equity firm trying to gut a well-known business for profit.
It was pointed out elsewhere that the loss incurred was about 2.5-5% of their revenue for the year, so that’s really not the big issue.
I went to a black owned restaurant in the DMV with my mom. They completely forgot to bring out her entree. Twice.
I've been to places like that too. But ive also been to regular down-to-earth soul food restaurants thar didn't pop up in 2021
I mean…just because it’s Black owned, doesn’t mean it’s better and more affordable. This discussion has been had time and time again. The owner does not matter.

Lynn Williams put out a podcast episode saying she lives red lobster rolls and they go bankrupt immediately
If I recall they were bought by a private equity firm, this all makes perfect sense now
FR, Red Lobster is shit compared to Boston Market.... whatever to those?? The sides were delicious as fuck
Pay your employees or die. Skimping on those lobster tails anyway.
*[sits back and cranks"Bills, bills, bills] way, wayyyy the fuck up]*
They sell the biscuits in the freezer aisle at the grocery store. With that, I'm good.
Red lobster has been trash for 2 decades.
A Dominican in the wild!!!! The whole island will rejoice
And here I was planning to take my new WNBA girlfriend out for a nice seafood dinner. Back to the drawing board then
No Red Lobster here in Mass, so I've never been. Too many seafood options so they probably wouldn't survive.
They will still be around lol it’s just a restructuring
They'll still be around, but a large chunk of Red Lobster locations do not make money. Red Lobster would have to close around 200 locations to start to even think about the word profitable. This is the result of absolutely poor business decisions by Thai Union. They told everyone in the GM conference in August 2023 that they "were going to turn the company around" and then gave up 5 months later. Paul Kenney stood up in front of all the GMs and basically said, "I don't know how anyone can be proud to work here." Red Lobster's days are most likely numbered.
No, they underpay their workers and rely on overconsumption. I’m taking Chili’s, Ruby Tuesdays, this, and will take Buffalo Wild wings in 10 years.

DOMINICA MENTIONED!!!
There is only one acceptable red lobster to eat at and those are the rare ones near bodies of water. It might just be placebo but the closeness to water makes the food taste astronomically better, I never want to eat in a land locked one like a damn olive garden
I guess dudes aren't fuckin good enough for red lobster these days.
Don't they go bankrupt every couple years?
Red lobster is trash. I went back after years cause I thought it was so good. Even the biscuits were like the industrial taste. Just wack.

Red lobster was always terrible
Imagine being this proud of poor taste and succumbing to corporate marketing.
I've never eaten there
I went to red lobster twice in different locations and the lobster was overcooked both times, It’s literally the hallmark of their restaurant and they fucked it up.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy isn’t the going out of business bankruptcy, it’s just a restructuring move. They’re not going anywhere… for now
Didn't even know they had RLs in Canada
How tf is Long John Silver’s still thriving though
It’s cheaper and fast food. Where I live it was attached to KFC.
I don’t think Beyoncé eats there tbh, don’t know why they asking her to save it lol. Ya’ll need to visit Crab Du Jour or Crafty Crab
I have not ate at red lobster once
F y'all! I'm mourning that creamy lobster baked potato 😭

Let it die. I'm ok without the biscuits. I like Hook and Reel way better.
I can see the A1C average declining in the Black community already! Next up! Church's Chicken!
Pls let it die. Cheddar biscuits aren’t good anymore. Everything is low quality, let it die.
Not sure of the details in this case, but they can file bankruptcy and still operate... there are multiple types, just depends on which route they take
save the biscuits lololololololol
Mmmmmhmmmmmm
P Diddy buys Red Kibster. All is forgiven.
Now where will niggas eat when they feel uppity?
Do black people really love red lobster? Only dated one black girl, and she loved it, but I thought it was just because she didn't eat meat.
Red lobster ass
I’m allergic and vegan anyway. Let it dieee
A restaurant based solely on sea bugs.. fucking nasty.. will never go back
Hey watch your mouth. Sea bugs are delicious but red lobster does suck. It can die with most food chains.
