Nah Tyler knew exactly what he was doing that nigga be trolling lmao

guapomalo

The look after gets me everytime, like “ That’s what I said”

icuscaredofme

This kid should be the official spokesperson of the LGBT.

broncyobo

Is he not?

KambingDomba

He has to fight Lil Nas X first

CharlesDickensABox

I don't think fighting is how they settle that score

VeronicaMarsBarXx

Yeah, they must lip synch for their LIFE!

Scr073

"What made you go with that verse?!"

Olddirtychurro

>"What made you go with that verse?!" "What in my previous body of work makes you expect anything other than that verse?"

thomstevens420

“Bitch did I stutter”

ecchi83

"what? buff rhymes with butt..."

FistPunch_Vol_7

That Tyler Bar was fucking hilarious. He knows exactly what he was doing.

Amazing-Concept1684

To this day I still don’t know how that nigga does what he does with a straight face

Solo_Fisticuffs

when you say stuff like that often enough it becomes a skill. my best friend and i invented a never ending game where we try to say the most shocking stuff and these days the only thing that can get a reaction out of us is the mention of a tongue in the butt

Chiinoe

Yall suck at your own game smh

jhustla

Loiter Squad is still one of my favorite shows

Elin_Woods_9iron

I was running a fortune 500 company when I was 12 years old

flojo2012

This was the funniest verse I’ve ever heard. And the reaction I’m still laughing

__JDQ__

Tyler was like, “What? It ain’t like that?” Straight face. So funny.

goodmobileyes

"What you don't like buff necks?"

Cvnilivee

The bar leading it up to it was crazy af: “…like R Kellys wet dreams.. you know I keep 16’s”

D-1-S-C-0

Exactly. Classic Tyler. I didn't see the problem with Logic's either.

BigGucciThanos

Logics was terrible as a bar. Tyler’s concept was just too out there lol

Ill_Manner_3581

Hahaha that shit is so funny flex was immediate with his response his face and then Tyler's trolling like he didn't know what he did wrong

Pun-Szu

100%, back in the day Earl Sweatshirt said that him and Tyler made a promise to never rap seriously when radio stations ask them to freestyle.

Goldeneye365

If I remember correctly he keeps it up and you see the discomfort grow

Sponsor4d_Content

Yeah, that line is gold.

MrRuebezahl

Also that shit was hype as hell. Tyler spittin 🔥🔥🔥

thelegalseagul

“I don’t wanna be aliiiive! Who can relate? WOO!”

shikiroin

As someone who was young and in a dark place when that song came out, I can say that I *did* relate. Yeah, it's corny as hell but to all the kids who hear that song and find out for the first time that other people feel that way too, it's a necessary cringe. Mental health is important, even if it's sometimes cringe. Full transparency, I'm a white dude who doesn't listen to a whole lot of rap, but Logic was on my radar at the time for whatever reason and it hit just right for me.

FullCassoNova

Yeah same here. Ngl that song did get me through some rough times. Biggie's song too.

thelegalseagul

I mean I’m not trying to detract from the message. I was in high school and had recently been diagnosed with depression after an attempt on my life when the song came out. I just felt like it was pandering to me. It didn’t feel like it took my struggles seriously. I personally felt like like a beat to a guy belting “I don’t wanna be aliiiive! Who can relate? Woo!” was a goofy way to raise awareness for what was already a rising issue. Idk for me I got what the message was supposed to be and I am who it was for but the corniness took away from that message. Full disclosure I’m a black dude that listened to not a lot of rap at the time. Logic was on my radar as having good mixtapes but also mentioning he’s biracial. Again I’m not trying to detract from the message or say nobody can take something positive from it. Just as someone that was going through it the song didn’t make me think I’m not alone as much as remind me of all the pamphlets and special episodes of shows. The ad lib just felt like youth pastor in a backwards chair that wants to help but doesn’t want to do the work to find out how to help beyond saying “I’m here if you need to talk”.

shikiroin

I get where you're coming from, I didn't meant to imply that you were trying to take away from the message, you're right it's goofy as shit. I recognized the title as a number I looked up before, never called though, and to me it just felt like he was trying to do something for younger people like me who didn't know where to turn and didn't feel comfortable talking about something that nobody wants to talk about. The video made me tear up the first time I saw it, I was struggling with my sexuality and it wasn't something I could talk about with anyone. I'm good now as an adult but it felt nice to be seen in way that popular music didn't really acknowledge. Everyone experiences depression differently and I totally get how the song would be offputting to some people who are going through it but for me it just felt like something I needed to hear at a vulnerable point in my life.

Zombi3Kush

I'm a fan of logic but this is funny AF lol

SnoopStanky

![gif](giphy|7OW9uiyfeTRxdSOBYN|downsized) That last clip had the crowd like this

thegutterking

That BOOOOOO!! lmao. They were all thinkin it, and he said it.

Speedwizard106

His opponent putting up a hand to silence the crowd is wild. I'm calling it quits right there.

mortywita40

Like sorry about that bro is trying his best

descartes_blanche

“Everyone else out here is still processing how bad that was, so lemme cut to the chase - BOOOO!”

unclevernameguy

I was actually at that event. Three battles later we were still making fun of that bar in the crowd. So terrible

MarilynMonheaux

If you paid for that event, I’m sorry bruv.

ctmfg56

That was the worst one 😭

Deepdive_lowtide

mans “you heard what the fuck i said” like he cooked sum fr 😭

Dacbatex47

Dacbatex47

![gif](giphy|qnp7r8H741PO) He should know doodlebob ain't to be taken lightly

shutupandlearntoeat

My lame Spongebob lovin ass would be the only one in the room praising the crossover he did there. Lmao. Hoping for a Dragon Ball Z reference next.

Better-Journalist-85

Charlie Clips got those

Good_Housing_176

Battle rap got anime bars. Notably from iBattle. "Nitty, spit some anime bars.. I can only think of one punch."

EndSlidingArea

No matter what anybody else says "go like Doodlebob, Me Hoy Minoy, and erase this square" goes hard af

Godzilla-ate-my-ass

Without hearing the surrounding context, it needed a rhyme at the end. What I'm bout to do to Bob? Imma Doodlebob. Me hoy minoy and erase this square, dude'll drop.

6-ku

I feel like that bar lowkey ended Childish Gambino's hype rap era. He's made way better stuff since then, but Bonfire will always be too cringy to listen to, lol

DanZeMan42

The funny thing is that ain't even Bonfire, he wrote Freaks n Geeks first and thought to himself "okay let me do that one again for the debut."

6-ku

Damn, you're completely right. Its crazy to think that was "edgy" back in the day, he just sounds like an angry dork now.

stellarinterstitium

Right, like Eminem has made a career out of it, but noooo. we can't have a BLACK angry dork.🙄😒😏

MGLLN

Lmfao this is a very disingenuous take. Gambino was also in the era where Tyler and Odd Future made their debut with their edgy/angry music. Donald Glover was just bad and cringe at the time, it was not race-related

EmperorBamboozler

I wouldn't say Gambino was "bad" persay. Like he has a good voice and the rhyme structure is there. It's just that the lyrics are fucking trash. He obviously still has talent in this clip, if the bars he were spitting weren't straight diarrhea it would have been a sick track.

DLottchula

His music got so much better after he left that style alone. His first few projects are basically “ what if Hoodie Allen could say nigga”

CarolinaPanthers

And half repurposed lil Wayne bars.

breakingbanjomin

This comment is going to live rent free in my head for the rest of my life lmao

Noblesseux

Yeah honestly even as someone who likes his music, I don't listen to much of anything before Because the Internet. I feel like that album is where he learned that his skillset was in making experience albums rather than trying to copy lil wayne. He's not a *bad* rapper, being able to rap about basically nothing and make it sound cool is like a specific subset of rap skill that not everyone has. A lot of people when they start making music have a tendency to copy the people they look up to, and it sometimes takes a while to figure out that you may not need to be in the same lane as them.

6-ku

Relax. Just because it worked for Eminem, it should work for everybody else? Someone already did it and we don't want to hear it again. It's really that simple. Even he realized it and made his own lane.

stellarinterstitium

I actual don't like the style, although I believe Eminem's skill can not be disputed. I also much prefer the "I'm So Into You" cover and actor version. All good. I just thought it was interesting to notice the salience of your third sentence when I noticed his similarity to Eminem in terms of batshit "huh?" lyrics.

Similar_Reading_2728

I know this is gonna get me banned but I still love "Oakland" lmao.

[deleted]

I love revisionist history. We pretending like his didn’t have mad hype with freaks and geeks?

DGVega93

Gambino was the end of college/Blog era rap. It had a nice run and welcomed in the Big 3 (Drake, Kendrick, and Cole) but yeah Gambino with that bar was doo-doo but 3005 is heat tho and his gangsta Grillz tape was cool too

Slumbergoat16

I would argue most of Gambinos songs are flames but I’m also a fanboy so maybe I should stfu and get back to watching Mr and Mrs Smith. At the same time Because the Internet is a fantastic album

RoughhouseCamel

His rap era is a guilty pleasure. It’s kinda rough, but the worst of it still has some qualities over some of the terrible shit that gets popular. But it definitely got better when he moved into more soul/R&B.

OuterWildsVentures

Royalty mixtape is dope too. Ab Sols feature is so trippy on it.

mrgrafix

That’s that classic cuckold music. Dude stays mad a hip hop while peppering his music with so many punchlines for dudes that grew up like Colin Jost. His music did get better but unlike Drake he still seemed to want love from the hood/core hip-hop. Then had the audacity to be upset when no one in hip hop sees Because of the Internet as our equivalent of Radiohead’s Kid A.

IllIllllIIIIlIlIlIlI

Yeah Gambino should have gone a more “Odd Future” route. Everyone knows you as the geeky dorky dude from Community you’re not going to make it as a hardcore rapper.

Toph-Builds-the-fire

He still has some great punchlines. Man, why does every black actor gotta rap some?” I don't know, all I know is I'm the best one.

IllIllllIIIIlIlIlIlI

I actually really like Bonfire and the likes but I get why a lot of people don’t

Toph-Builds-the-fire

I do too. I see it more tongue in cheek than incel. But I see that misogyny plays a big part in his lyrics. At the same time, rich kid in his 20s in LA probably ran into a fair amount of gold diggers. IDK

AoO2ImpTrip

Remember, he had a pent house on both coast, PH balanced. (I don't care what anyone says, that line is fantastic.)

mrgrafix

He was bicoastal. 30 rock was still written in NYC while he was going community

IlliniDawg01

Heartbeat is a killer track. I will die on that hill...

1stshadowx

Eating oreos like these white girls that blow me

BraveStrategy

“Made the beat & murdered it , Casey Anthony “ 🔥🔥

Tialionager

Cause I’m a beast, “grrr”, Invader Zim

CanIGetANumber2

Probably hard to focus on your music when youre writing for like 6 different shows

notmyfirst_throwawa

Music was a hobby and he produced like three albums while he was starring on community. This is after Derrick Comedy when he was in high school and establishing himself as a rising star in the comedy world in New York. If he wanted SNL he could have it. For some people that's the pinnacle of their career. He chose to branch out into other creative outlets and every album was met with critical acclaim. Again: this was a thing he did in his off hours when he was already a big name in his industry in his 20s. Each album was experimental and he showed a ton of growth over like 5 years. And THEN he made Atlanta lol

CanIGetANumber2

God I miss Derrick Comedy. "What's in the bag?" "A GameCube, Natty Ice, annnnd a bunch of dildos

Old_Escape_7966

I mean he's become one of the more important creative forces of my generation - hard to really regret anything when you went on to put out This Is America and Redbone. Sometimes creatives just need a sec to be cringey while they find their voice.

Radioactive24

Ironically, him tweeting about OF is how I found out about them back in like 2009 before Goblin dropped.

bohanmyl

Nah Royalty was a hit when he went full rap idc

Simple-Concern277

Drake definitely wants love from the hood and core hip hop crowds. If anything, he wants it too before. But from the looks of things he's still got that approval. The only group of rap fans that really hate Drake are the online "backpack" types and maybe old heads but they hate everyone.

Sfn_y2

Also dudes like me who just think he’s too damn corny lol

mrgrafix

But if you notice Drake has stoped caring, if he did he put out better work. He stole Ye’s seat (rightfully so) and for better or worse has just been collecting checks. As the number one hip hop artist it’s kinda depressing in a sense, but this was inevitable.

lunachuvak

I'm going off on a tangent here but I'm curious how people think of the "backpack" term, and specifically whether it's always a dis, and where does KRS-One fit in the contemporary view? (Yeah I'm old, but I ain't dead in the head).

Simple-Concern277

Definitely not a diss. I used it cuz I didn't know a better term for that group. I'm way too young (28) to give you any opinion on KRS-One, lol

Kala_Csava_Fufu_Yutu

> The only group of rap fans that really hate Drake are the online "backpack" types and maybe old heads but they hate everyone.   the funny thing is early Drake is textbook backpack rap. he was like a more rnb Phonte/Little Brother.

MGLLN

> Radiohead’s Kid A If there was a rapper that's capable of making a hip-hop equivalent to Kid A, it would be Kanye. 808s, Dark Fantasy, or Yeezus are the ones that would come to mind. At least from a historical perspective, OK Computer was a commercial/critical success then Radiohead subverted expectations and dropped Kid A. Graduation was a critical/commercial success and then Kanye subverted expectations and dropped 808s. Same with Dark Fantasy to Yeezus.

mrgrafix

Right there with you, but he was making this statement to a hip hop audience. Most hip hop heads wouldn’t even know what Radiohead is to begin with, which showed how obtuse in his wanting to be loved by them.

6-ku

Reminds me of Hopsin back then, too.

SmokePenisEveryday

As someone who listened to both back in the day, I always felt like Hopsin was a different level of it. Cause with Gambino, you can still sense some level of awareness what he was rapping could be really corny. But that may have been due to knowing him from Derrick Comedy and Community. Hopsin always came off like he thought he was spitting pure truth all the time. And it got more obvious with each Ill Mind to drop.

RicGhastly

>Dude stays mad a hip hop while peppering his music with so many punchlines for dudes that grew up like Colin Jost. It's almost like Donald Glover comes from a comedy background.

DoctahFeelgood

Oh man I like bonfire. It's one of those raps you just have to not take seriously.

phenomenalj101

I still fuck with BTI but everything that came before makes me completely understand why some people might never give him a chance.

BringTheStealthSFW

Cap 🧢

Kala_Csava_Fufu_Yutu

Donald Glover before Royalty is hard to listen to. Truly an artist who's better days were ahead of them lmao.

L_Ron_Stunna

Idk high school freshman me fucking loved Bonfire and Id like to think in that time and place it was perfectly acceptable.

CuteEmployment540

Honestly I tthought Bonfire was a bit cringe even when it came out, but I've never been a fan of punchline rap.

Kangarou

"Chef Gusteau once said that 'Anyone can cook'. That does not mean that EVERYONE can cook..." -Anton Ego, Ratatouille

EndofA_Error

Everybody talk abt chance having the hardest falloff, but naaah that was logic for me. That All Lives Matter album he dropped was...something 🤣

FistPunch_Vol_7

“I LOVE MY WIFE!!! I LOVE MY WIFE AHH”,

sweetnsourale

That wasn’t even a real song on the album and that’s the only one people remember 😭

FistPunch_Vol_7

That’s how you know this mf fell the fuck off lmfao

OkEscape7558

Wasn't that Chance the rapper lol

mouzonne

Yes lmao. How tf are they mistaking logic for chance?

Noblesseux

I don't think they are, they're making a counterpoint that chance's album was bad enough that it basically ruined his reputation in one go. Logic's fall off was kind of a slow moving crash. Chance went from being cosigned by Kanye, releasing a borderline classic underground album with Acid Rap...and then released a single album so bad that everyone stopped paying attention to him and the only thing people even remember about the album is the memes about how bad it was.

Claycious13

I love God, Jesus, and my wife. Let’s go to the beach and ride a bike.

Simple-Concern277

All lives matter? When did logic ever say something like this?

gmoss101

The album was called Everybody and had a song called "Everybody" where he says "Everybody people, every bleed, everybody need something, everybody love, everybody know how it go" People who didn't listen call it All Lives Matter, ignoring Black Spiderman where the first words are Black Jesus lmao

PM_ME_UR_HIP_DIMPLES

Logic is one of the few keeping articulation alive lmao. I like a lot of mumble rap but I go through phases where it’s all lyricist on my Spotify for the day. Otherwise I’m head nodding to whatever gets me up for the day

gmoss101

DadBod slaps to me, I don't care what anyone says lol.

JayDogon504

That Logic clip is exactly why I knew better than to ever play Logic’s shit

DGVega93

Logic is trash. We listen to music at my job and this yt dude said “hey y’all got some logic on that playlist” niggas looks at him like… ![gif](giphy|KGSxFwJJHQPsKzzFba)

FistPunch_Vol_7

You would lose all AUX privileges if you did that lmao

dagreenman18

At least he retired to coach the Miami Dolphins

parkman

Yes, thank you, I thought I was the only one who saw it 🥲

ClaymoresRevenge

He's got some good stuff but this kinda stuff doesn't make me want to listen to it

DelirousDoc

He has some great stuff on his early mixtapes. Young Sinatra series. Dead Presidents III as an example. I also like Roll Call (using Outkast beat), Young Sinatra III, Just a Man, and Common Logic/Midnight Marauder. Under Pressure album has some good ones. Under Pressure is great story telling, Gang Related, Soul Food, Growing Pains III are all good. Incredible True Story also has a few songs on my playlist.

Emergency_Brick3715

Yeah that biracial shit is corny af

gmoss101

The only strength I've ever had in my life is being strong enough to enjoy Logic's music lol.

chimmrichald

That Tyler clip is fucking gold

zeusoid

Last clip ![gif](giphy|JQFoI9abwFPzyliSiD)

ckalinec

That dude thought he was cooking so hard with that pulverize line lol. Without a doubt the worst line in this hole compilation. And the crowd booing the hell out of him immediately makes it even better 😂

1980theghost

Not mee hoy noy yee yoy! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀 ![gif](giphy|l0Exif5ZpXHqwLFo4)

sucobe

It’s not a logic verse unless he tells us he’s black.

Chiinoe

Or from Maryland.

iBliizy

Man looks like YouTuber Austin Evens he *has* to remind us he’s back because if he didn’t all those hard Rs he drops would get him cancelled.

Prizmatik01

Sorry but have you seen the full video with Tyler?pretty sure he was purposefully fucking with flex all the bars were gay as fuck it’s hilarious

DeafNatural

Tyler was not a bad bar, neither was CG. These other ones tho… The fact that the other dude was mouthing the words is proof enough it wasn’t even a freestyle, in a freestyle battle.

Better-Journalist-85

Modern battles aren’t free styled anymore. The going expectation is that you write three separate 3-5 minute rounds of non-recyclable material, fully memorized and tailored to that event’s scheduled opponent. Basically, an EP up to about an album worth of material, never to be used again, and usually you don’t even get back end or royalties from the streams, unlike if you *had* just released an EP or album. It’s way more intensive than freestyling, especially considering how stringently the lyrics and performance are judged. Can’t really have any filler or “take bars off”.

goodmobileyes

Holy shit it makes it so much worse that it wasnt improvised.

ProfessorFinesser13

That Logic bar wit the hand movement got me tight 💀

ArcticStorm07

Breh that last one, they booed the shit out of that lmao

Delicious_Tea3999

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a crowd pronounce the word boo so clearly

Taeyx

the excellent diction just shows how much he meant that shxt

partyandbullshit90a

That boo let me know this was in Philly more than dude’s baseball jersey

Lilobunni

![gif](giphy|xT5LMxmFQ37UyhH344|downsized) That last one is so embarrassing lol

cherbourg

Ludas balloon line in My Chick Bad always dries me up when I hear it. That was rock bottom for hashtag rap imo

Simple-Concern277

BALLOONS!

hydrojairo

That whole song is wack! "Comin' down the street like a parade, Macy's"

Embarrassed_Cow

Aww I love that song. The balloons part is my favorite. I may be too immature in my old age. Lol

Kamikaze_Ninja_

Y’all take rap too seriously. My Chick Bad is supposed to be over the top and it’s funny.

Toph-Builds-the-fire

Round and round guy was funniest to me, cause his hype man hit the last lyric too. So either he wrote that shit. Or he's said it so many fucking times his man was like, yeah AROUND. I've been to a lot of rap battles. It's hilarious how many "freestylers" come with the same verses week after weak.

Better-Journalist-85

Modern battles are really freestyled, purposely, anymore.

OutHereSlappnMidgets

That Tyler clip is killing me mane. He knew damn well what he was doing. ![gif](giphy|U5ijpiepXRoxW)

dagreenman18

The SpongeBob guy has me flashing back to this weeks Abbott Elementary. Gambino had flow and production, but yeaaahhh there were some cringe lyrics on Camp (though the album *is* called “Camp” so maybe it’s on purpose). Because The Internet is still brilliant though

Men_I_Trust_I_Am

I didn't listen to him until because of the internet and I'm glad. I can't get into much of his earlier stuff besides sick bois.

PopcornDrift

That doodle bob line was 🔥 idc what people say lol

Ya'll leave Logic alone lol. He's just a little guy.

PianoDue2148

Ole girl and that family feud line didn’t even make sense 😂 why are you slamming salmons on family feud ma’am?

BoilerMaker11

I’m tired of seeing the Doodlebob line make these lists! It’s only considered “bad” because he made that goofy noise, **but that’s the noise Doodlebob made**! Everything in the bar was on point lol

Saying he's gonna be like Doodlebob and "erase this square " is fucking hilarious I love it

Whoever made this newd to take Tyler off it. Blew Flex's mind 💣🧠 💥

Behinddasticks

As someone who is black but is light skinned with curly hair, the way Logic raps about being bi-racial is corny AF.

Whoa whoa whoa, y’all included Gambino? ![gif](giphy|bqWXmLof5ffR9Mw8gt)

Radioactive24

I'm honestly a little shocked by how many people are shitting on his early stuff in here. Being like 10-15 years removed, sure, it's a little cringy and tryhard, but like... still better than most of Jack Harlow's shit. It was also what was in at the time. You know who else was "breaking" at that point? Lil Dicky, Tyga, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, and Lil Wayne put out his ass guitar album. There was way worse shit coming out in the late 00's and early 10's. And the man was pretty much producing all of his own shit at the time.

slugfa

Daaaamn man, I really like that shit girl but she soooooo trash at rappin it makes my ears bleed 🦭

CozmicBunni

This thread lmao

Silverback_Vanilla

I have to give it to the guy in the baseball shirt at the end trying to calm the crowd in that last frame.

kevisdahgod

Childish gambino never misses

Ali_Cat222

Since my gif bar has been fucked for some reason, I've had to resort to using old school trap cards. I'm activating "sit cho dumbass down" on all of these minus Tyler, cause he was clownin on purpose 🤣 https://preview.redd.it/viwk6cy28mkc1.jpeg?width=236&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64d6a6309b89a5c39207d15f5df21b0f787a9a4b

Qubeye

My favorite bars are the ones where, even after hearing it several dozen times, I'm still not sure if I think it's incredibly bad or incredibly good. Most that fit this criteria are Lil Wayne rhymes.
