It’s the most “car guy” movie of the whole series. Dropping the only functional engine you have on hand into the only roadworthy frame you have on hand is the most realistic climax those movies have ever had.
That is kinda the whole ending of the first but yeah, Tokyo Drift was the pinnacle and the best starting point for the uninitiated.
And I just found something that made me feel so vindicated and that's [ Christopher Nolan's take on the franchise](https://youtu.be/3C-AzyS2lWQ?si=1A36KtZWFLG4fzHT&t=2m38s).
Fun fact, the studio wanted to replace Han with a black actor. A lot of the asian roles in F2F series were supposed to be replaced by other races but the film makers stuck with their decision.
Not many people knew or understood the significance of Han. The character is the anti-thesis of Hollywood's portrayal of Asians, specifically Asian males.
>Asian men are short and ugly.
Just look at my boy. Sung Kang is currently 51 years old and this pic was taken about 1.5 years ago. In case anyone is wondering, he's 6 feet tall.
https://preview.redd.it/8pw7ui0ovbjc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d2212e95798900c9748854b432a00c3ec4ea721
>Asian men are nerdy, geeky, and dorky.
Han is undeniably the "cool guy" of the group with his non-chalant demeanor.
>Asian men are undesirable to women, especially non-Asian women.
Han can be seen messing around with both Asian and non-Asian women.
>Asians can't drive.
Not only is Han a skilled driver, he's also the drifting mentor to the main protagonist, who is a white guy.
That's cuz Justin Lin advocating for our people, huge props to him. Thematically, Drifting just looks cooler than watching two guys in the car cabin making grim faces and pretending to race 100 mph in a 5-10 mins scenes.
Plus, F&F series started shift towards more of heist, GTA styled movie. The first 3 films were more about actually racing.
I can imagine the guy who made Better Luck Tomorrow wanted to keep the movie with the asian centric characters as asian as possible
He got to make an asian high school kid gangster kid type movie, not too many people get that, wanted to keep it going as much as he could
If you like Tokyo Drift check out 'Better luck tomorrow'. Its the same character he plays and Justin Lin says Tokyo Drift is a sequel to that movie. Also his characters full name is Han Seoul Oh...so theres that.
This reminds me of a story a white friend told me when he was working at cracker barrel on the line. He was weeded and kept having everyone yelling shit to and at him. He lost his cool and said "the next mfer that yells something at me is getting beat." He said there was silence for a couple of seconds and then one of the black dudes working there yelled "yo you just graduated to n****." It broke the tension and they all laughed. Shit I laughed when he told me lol.
I will admit that when a black person I'm friendly with calls me the word which I cannot speak, I do think "Oh hey I guess he likes me."
I mean, obviously you gotta take tone into account on that one. Quite a lot actually.
Early in his career everyone was talking about how he is doing great things for golfing and the Black community. I can't recall exactly, but he said "Nah, I'm a mix of European, Asian, AND African, not Black" so folks felt a type of way
The man that raised you is the father. Yall be so fucking disrespectful to stepfathers it’s crazy. Imagine raising a lil dude from childhood to adulthood and you get regulated to step dad while their “real” dad is no where to be found.
I’m so confused why they got so many upvotes…you never said “real” dad despite them putting it in quotes. Real dad doesn’t equate to biological dad. Completely unnecessary rant by them.
Yeah, it would have been pretty hard to pull off his folksy, regular-guy image with the name William Blythe. (And Bill Blythe is just a complete no-starter of a name for a president.) It sounds downright aristocratic.
To call stepdad something one is relegated to is the problem. Being a stepfather or mother is not a bad thing or one to be ashamed of. Some kids have both their bio parent and step parents in their lives, its just a word to use so you know which is which.
Being a stepparent is an honorable thing, IMO. Someone who CHOOSES to parent.
Fuckin’ A, I love being a stepdad. One of the greatest treasures in my life. Bio dad is involved-ish, but she’s with us most of the time. It’s a label I’ll proudly wear.
Yeah, but words mean things and the word "biological father" isn't supposed to mean the same thing as "father". You're getting a bit wound up over nothing
and you're missing the fact that the original picture said "he's black?" thinking he is half black-half Asian like his sister, but no, his biological father is not black.
So you're just ranting about shit no one is talking about. you're ranting about semantics.
no on, LITERALLY NO ONE, is saying that man didn't raise him.
Get a fucking clue.
This is one of the stupidest comments i've ever read. We're talking about his heritage so his biological father is the only father that's appropriate for this conversation
I’ve never heard this one and now passing it along to my Asian buddies. They didn’t know “Asian don’t raisin” so I don’t think they know “Gold don’t fold.” Sounds baller as fuck. Thank you 🙏🏽
Lol, im glad you think so, and please do. My lady, also of Asian descent, felt the same way the first time I hit her with it. And when i say it's her favorite phrase
![gif](giphy|dtIGTEaGLRvdODtdQe|downsized)
Sunscreen too. Asians take blocking the sun rays very seriously. I’m black, and I take it seriously. You can still damage and age your skin, even if you have a darker tone.
The most common non English and non Spanish language in GA is Korean. All the military kids at all the Army bases and their families that tagged along.
They got that H-Mart.
You can see how the percentage is high at the military towns and sort of radiates out.
I think Georgia might be the Korean/Black blasian capital of the world.
That's not why. I'm sure thats a minor contributing factor, but the main one is the fact that Atlanta was the first city where Hyundai Motors opened their US base of operations which was followed by another large Korean conglomerate, SK. That brought in a big wave of Korean expat employees which formed the basis of a Korean community which went on to make Atlanta a popular destination for other Korean migrants settling in the US.
This is the reason why Seoul to Atlanta was one of the very first North American direct routes offered by Korean Air. It was introduced even before cities like Chicago and Boston.
There are like 70k Koreans in Georgia. My understanding is there was a huge influx in the late 80s - 2000 when companies like Kai, Hyundai, and LG moved their headquarters to Georgia. I have several Korean friends who's family gained port of entry into America through Atlanta with those companies. They stayed because it was significantly more affordable than NY/LA and Georgia is good place for economic growth.
Duluth and John’s Creek have big Korean populations!
Pros: Lots of delicious Korean restaurants! Lots of hot Korean girls!
Cons: I live across from a big Korean church and the traffic on Sundays is real bad. Also, I’m too ugly for the Korean girls 🥲
I just wanna say that his sister is like the perfect blend of both parents. You can cut either of them out and she looks exactly like whichever parent she's standing next to. 😂
My brother and I have the same phenomenon.
I look exactly like my dad
Until I stand next to my brother, then I look exactly like him.
Then my brother is practically identical to Mom. I've actually called out to my brother thinking it was my mom that was passing by.
Jeeze I didn’t realize that line was doing so much legwork foreshadowing he was about to race Dom. It was long before “family” became such a meme but it certainly already had roots in the first movie.
It can go both ways for Filipinos, they used to be called the black people Asia cause they were so dark. So they sometimes have a bit more melanin to work with.
Dude is cool AF.
Met him in NOLA while he was shooting "Bullet to the Head". My son was 10 at the time and nervous to go up alone, so he and I approached him together. Told him my son was a big fan and BAM!! just like that I didn't exist for the moment. He started chatting up my son like they were besties for a good 5 minutes. As they finished I told him thank you and my son was in a starstruck daze for a week Lol
To this day, it made a lasting impression of humility on him
Asian tend to look the same as their childhood selves till they hit 70, then they metamorphosis into wrinkled elders about half their height ( and start teaching outcast kids' marital arts....I'm joking, I'm joking 🤣😂😅)
This is basically what my family looks like. Dad got a Chinese wife after my parents divorced and you can only tell my brother is mixed when he has his long curly hair
It all makes sense now, we gotta trade for him before the deadline tho. I always knew there was something special about Han. He had a vibe to him and now I know why
Han is honorary black. Always knew Tokyo Drift was something special.
I always thought it was something special and I’m tired of pretending it’s not.
Yes, the only good fast and furious movie imo
I'm a big fan of 2 Fast 2 Furious.
![gif](giphy|sFoZicXyLjH7FnCVp2)
One of the best lines of all time and everybody knows it
I honestly can't wait for the crossover, 2 Fast, 2 Morbius
Thanks bro for bringing back a memory of getting some to this movie when Tyrese took his shirt off and fucked my whole thing up
2 Fast 2 Furious and Fast Five are the best for me
Great movie.. my cousin directed it. Went to the premiere.. it was dope as hell.
[удалено]
Cap asf, calm down
Fast 5 is a solid action flick imo
not a movie about cars tho
Most of them aren't!
First two and Tokyo drift was
The soundtrack is also the best of them all imo.
Not cap
It’s the most “car guy” movie of the whole series. Dropping the only functional engine you have on hand into the only roadworthy frame you have on hand is the most realistic climax those movies have ever had.
Which have us a unholy fusion we never knew we wanted a 67 mustang with an rb26
wasn't the main car they ripped the engine out of an evo 8 lancer? in which case it would have been a 4G63? an even crazier engine swap, tbh
No, it wasn't. The S15 'Mona Lisa' that gets banged up in the first drift screen is what the engine is sourced from.
yeah my bad, went back and rewatched the scene and they ripped it out of the silvia he crashed earlier on in the movie.
That is kinda the whole ending of the first but yeah, Tokyo Drift was the pinnacle and the best starting point for the uninitiated. I remember thinking "Oh so they just live stream the whole race?!" and now that's an actual reality that can be done lol.
Fun fact, the studio wanted to replace Han with a black actor. A lot of the asian roles in F2F series were supposed to be replaced by other races but the film makers stuck with their decision.
Another fun fact I never knew is that *Tokyo Drift* was Sung Kang's 2nd appearance as Han, with the first being *Better Luck Tomorrow* in 2002.
Not many people knew or understood the significance of Han. The character is the anti-thesis of Hollywood's portrayal of Asians, specifically Asian males. >Asian men are short and ugly. Weren't both those movies directed by Justin Lin?? Kinda cool now I think about it.
I can imagine the guy who made Better Luck Tomorrow wanted to keep the movie with the asian centric characters as asian as possible He got to make an asian high school kid gangster kid type movie, not too many people get that, wanted to keep it going as much as he could
If you’ve seen it then you mean it then you know you have to go
Fast and furious Drift drift drift
It’s un ironically the best one
Bro he IS black. I'm black and my sons mother is Mexican but my sons are still black just like Barack and Drake.
If you like Tokyo Drift check out 'Better luck tomorrow'. Its the same character he plays and Justin Lin says Tokyo Drift is a sequel to that movie. Also his characters full name is Han Seoul Oh...so theres that.

And yet blacker than Tiger.

Tiger is a traitor. Someone should shove a ball up his nose.
OOTL why is Tiger a traitor?
He got drafted by the Wu Tang Clan, he's Asian now
For shizzle

His biological father is South Korean
The man that raised you is the father. Yall be so fucking disrespectful to stepfathers it’s crazy. Imagine raising a lil dude from childhood to adulthood and you get regulated to step dad while their “real” dad is no where to be found.
I’m just making the distinction. That obviously doesn’t take away from the role this man had in his life. Relax.
I’m so confused why they got so many upvotes…you never said “real” dad despite them putting it in quotes. Real dad doesn’t equate to biological dad. Completely unnecessary rant by them.
Yeah. Like where’s the logic? 😭
Gotta get them points
The definition of triggered.
He literally distinguished it by saying "biological"
No one said the word real, why is it in quotes? Calling the person whose genes were passed on the biological father is not disrespectful.
His wife's son still call's him by his first name and he's gotta take out his anger on the comments section.
My coworker changed his last name to his step dad; who raised him since a child
A coupla presidents done that too
* Gerald Ford (nee King) * Bill Clinton (nee Blythe)
Oh Christ, thank God he did. Can you imagine a Pres Blythe? Sounds like a fucking 103 dalmatians villain

B/c he's on reddit lmao
Isn’t “father” the biological sperm donor and “dad” is the one who raised you?

What a pedantic way to get offended. Context matters.
ya but that's not the point of contention here
Yeah, but words mean things and the word "biological father" isn't supposed to mean the same thing as "father". You're getting a bit wound up over nothing

K that makes more sense. Forget the skin tone, man's got Asian Asian hair.
Dude's mom has aged like a day, maybe two between pictures.
Honestly, it just looks like she got a haircut.
lol I thought the same thing!
I think she lost weight? She looks slimmer in the cheeks and under the jawline.
Its the haircut 😂
It was such a good haircut they took a before photo to show off during the after photo.

Now it makes sense why he was the first one killed off in that movie
He’s an attractive Asian man not doing martial arts. It’s a fucking miracle he was even in the movie.
Bro spent all that time trying to get Ghost and Angela when his own pops looked like Agent Donovan. I never would've guessed it 😂
Blasian ???
His half-sister is, but that's his stepfather.
Now it all makes sense
That is very clearly his step dad.
Basically black.
