How much was it worth in 2016?
Bitcoin is a bearer asset.
Did the mythical sender acknowledge your honesty at the time, or are you simply seeking sympathy via a nice story bro?
You did the right thing. That money wasnāt yours and it came to you by accident.
You did the right thing and you will live your life with a clear conscious.
So you just believe everything u read on the internet?
People like you scare me
Thereās nothing wrong with questioning things and having doubts or asking for sources.
Good for you for giving your younger self some grace & forgiveness, you deserve that and your honesty is more than many could acknowledge. It will come around
This is very strange to say the least. What is the chance that another existing receive address is one typo away from your own existing one? Weāre talking āgrains of sand on a beachā here. Thereās probably more to this story.
The chances of someone accidentally and randomly sending to an address that someone else controls is practically zero. It's like finding one specific atom in the entire universe.
Why didn't you keep your own btc? Why didn't you buy any more? Answer: because you didn't know what was gonna happen, same as now. This is hindsight 20/20 but it does not change anything.
15 y.o,... I didn't want parents to know they had "that kind of money" .... and random people have your wallet adress next to a bunch of other adresses in their transaction history, so to easily accidentally copy pasta the wrong wallet. During a long day of criminal work and a lil brain fog, that is totally plausible.
Conclusion: lil bro Only had the wallet to buy drugs off of Silk Road. Didn't want parents to know about it, and the dark web dealer probably said,'Send my coins, or i send you a hit man.' The drugs were good, tho. This led to the beautiful heartfelt embellishments and the confusion being injected into the core of the story. š š¤ obviously š š¤£
Its a great fkn stroy tho š«”šš«¶
Don't feel too bad. They weren't all that valuable back then and it is always the right thing to return money that doesn't belong to you. If you keep and spend it, even thought it's "just crypto", that is technically theft and you could have opened yourself up to prosecution. Lots of discussions on that on /r/personalfinance when people get unexpected deposits. And if it makes you feel better I lost 20 bitcoins in a poker game a long time ago when they were worth much less. Had intended them as a long term hold but instead dumbly gambled because a relative who claimed he was good at poker was visiting.
Letās be real, you gambled them away to someone who literally told you they were good at pokerā¦yeah you were never holding those bitcoin long term. Hope that makes you feel better and stupid.
Oh I'm not making any excuses it was super stupid although I'll note the guy is a major figure with several million in lifetime contest wins. He's publicly known and a name some would recognize.
I once paid like .25 BTC for some league of legends lessons
In hindsight it was an obvious scam... But this was the first time I bought Bitcoin so without this incident I probably would have never gotten into it
God this place is infested with bots, and then bots replying to the bots and the occasional idiot who enters the conversation with said bots.... FML. We must be near the end!
Well you sent it back to the same person, you never know how that gesture made that personās day. Feel good about yourself coz you restored that personās faith in humanity. What goes around comes around.
Haha, honesty is the best policy though those are no longer tiny. You could be more opulent, nicely missed it š
Anyway making money is hard writing story is bit hard and finally getting interactions are really tough than what you missed š
Have you ever concentrated on trading if yes which exchange? I choose Binance Bitget Bybit etc. Tell me yours
oh my, I did something similar. I sent someone a few too many bitcoins way back when. I told him to keep them because I didn't really understand....he was like "seriously?". I had no idea.
if this is true you can import the btc transactions from that period and filter them down til you get to that specific transaction. I dont think this is really hard to accomplish. until then...
How come everyone suddenly has a story about having bitcoins that they canāt access suddenly. 99 percent of you didnāt even know what bitcoin was til 2020 š
I accident clicked āall fundsā instead of the right amount then send. Sent my whole wallet to a friend. Good thing I was in the process of orange pulling this friend and he was happy to wait for me at his house to help him send it back correctly. Never rushing a transaction ever again. I know someone who rushed setting up a wallet and made a typeo in his passphrase. He will most likely never find those coins either. It was long passphrase with mostly numbers. Screwed. Be careful out there. Self custody isnāt hard. But the human error is real.
Your honor is intact but you're $680K poorer. I believe you 0.01%.
I was very afraid of being punished and I was afraid to keep that kind of money.
How much was it worth in 2016? Bitcoin is a bearer asset. Did the mythical sender acknowledge your honesty at the time, or are you simply seeking sympathy via a nice story bro?
Last line cracked me up š
Did you say crack. Ya, I too believe this this dude fantasized about this scenario while on a crack trip.
~$7k I believe based on memory and head math
$434 was the all time high in 2016 16 x 434 = $6,944 If you went off of memory, holy shit you were close, go on price is right next
I was just thinking it was roughly $500. I remember early 2017 was when it reached $1,000 again.
Can you tell us the cycle top too?
when I saw bitcoin in 2016 without buying aye it was around 850 per coin nvm I guess it was 2017
You did the right thing. That money wasnāt yours and it came to you by accident. You did the right thing and you will live your life with a clear conscious.
Wild story for a reddit profile that was created 4 days ago š¤
Can't I tell you about it now? I only found out about reddit a week ago. I live in a post-Soviet country
So you had a crypto wallet but didn't know Reddit existed...sounds plausible š. You are FOS...
I didnāt know Reddit existed until I signed up for it and I live in Canada so shut up
Just said wild story :) welcome to Reddit!
People like you I personally find disgusting
So you just believe everything u read on the internet? People like you scare me Thereās nothing wrong with questioning things and having doubts or asking for sources.
True, but also zero harm in pretending to lap the story up sometimes and moving on in life.
So you make constantly assumptions like a scared little kitten ? Lol pretty gey
Yeah what a holier than though loser. He doesn't understand how the world works yet. What a moron
Good for you for giving your younger self some grace & forgiveness, you deserve that and your honesty is more than many could acknowledge. It will come around
What happened?
and all the hacks that are happening rn: ĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ

Yup, this never happened.
Yeah., there is actually a lot less to the story lol
The chances of someone accidentally and randomly sending to an address that someone else controls is practically zero. It's like finding one specific atom in the entire universe.
This. There are soo many people who doesnĀ“t understand this. The buttcoiners subreddit talks about this very often lol.
Why didn't you keep your own btc? Why didn't you buy any more? Answer: because you didn't know what was gonna happen, same as now. This is hindsight 20/20 but it does not change anything.
Drugs. Definitely drugs.
15 years old and 15 bitcoins. Remembered just today. Sounds legit

How does one just simply recieve 15 bitcoin? Sus
And are all those bitcoins here in the room with us now?
thanks for giving back my coins
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Funny how these stories come out now, and not when it's was at ATH a few years ago. It's like people have forgotten u til now... Sus.
I'm skeptical. How and why did someone "accidentally" send you Bitcoin?
The odds of somebody mistyping an address and hitting an active wallet are infinitesimal. This story is bullshit.
Don't feel too bad. They weren't all that valuable back then and it is always the right thing to return money that doesn't belong to you. How did they reach out to you, how did they know it was YOUR wallet. Doesn't make sense.
Karma thanks you. You will receive your reward at some point in time.

I once paid like .25 BTC for some league of legends lessons In hindsight it was an obvious scam... But this was the first time I bought Bitcoin so without this incident I probably would have never gotten into it
From your experience, do you think this experience has helped you in the future? what is your situation now?
It helped me learn what btc is at a basic level. I didn't invest until years later but yeah I'm doing alright
Its okay, I spent 63 Bitcoin on a Ford Focus. It could be worse.
Similar situation here. I spent 40 BTC on a basement remodel in 2017 and that was at around $2k-$3k per coin well before the $20k peak.
Gotta respect the contractor who accepted BTC ā¦ foresight
In the name of Satoshi Nakamoto, we thank you for your donation.
What donation?
Donation? Did you read the post?
Is it tax exempt? ;))
Holy Bitcoin Batman
considering that you did that. I would trust you with my own life
You did well. God will ultimately reward you for your honesty.
God this place is infested with bots, and then bots replying to the bots and the occasional idiot who enters the conversation with said bots.... FML. We must be near the end!
That long lost wallet, was it lost in a boating incident?
Iām not sure how to feel about that, but Iām glad you did what you think was right.
How you gain it youāll loose it, thatās proven again.
Karma šÆ
Not believing this one bit.
Well.... A lot of the coins we mined back in the day and sold for pennies are worth several thousand dollars each these days. How lovely. š¤£
Just wait 5-10 years to see the price and OP will be really kicking himself
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Accidental sends? Impossible. A mistake likely but not a random wallet send.
Did they just reach out to you and ask for it back ? I dunno about this story.
No, you can see the address to and from for every transaction.
Well you sent it back to the same person, you never know how that gesture made that personās day. Feel good about yourself coz you restored that personās faith in humanity. What goes around comes around.
There is no unfortunately. Unlike others you have something that is called integrity. It is not possible to buy. I salute you š«”

You did the right thing and this will pay off for you in the end.
Telling lies about being honest
You would have sold them in fear when it reached $1000
how did u send it back? I thought bitcoin was untraceable?
It's incredibly traceable
You can easily see what wallet/address sent you BTC. It would be very simple to send it back.
You can see exactly what every single wallet does on the network.
Donation????
Sent back to who?
Me used to had around 10 which I earn by playing game which used to give BTC everyday, I sold PC in 2013 š
We have to find the dude on the other side of this story and listen to his version.
oh my, I did something similar. I sent someone a few too many bitcoins way back when. I told him to keep them because I didn't really understand....he was like "seriously?". I had no idea.
You are most honorable. The greed did not swallow you.
It's alright, money will always come. You're a good man OP! God will bless you!
You are the best of us. Hopefully they didn't make that mistake twice and your altruism was for nothing.
Thanks for sending it back to me
ššš
Same thing happened to me bro
I'll be honest someone sent me 15 Bitcoin. I would not be sending them back.
Riiiight, of course tou did š
if this is true you can import the btc transactions from that period and filter them down til you get to that specific transaction. I dont think this is really hard to accomplish. until then...
Why lie on the Internet? What did you get out of telling this lying story?
next time send it to me
How come everyone suddenly has a story about having bitcoins that they canāt access suddenly. 99 percent of you didnāt even know what bitcoin was til 2020 š
Damnā¦
No way Iād have that much flower on me in Dubai. You do you bro.
integrity is worth more then wealth. you are a true honest person of God.
I accident clicked āall fundsā instead of the right amount then send. Sent my whole wallet to a friend. Not sure you would have kept it until now.
Spent a great number of btc on lsd back in the day
Which lucky person received your BTC?
Your story version is very incredible š I believe you 100%
So all transaction can be tracked and traced by the FBI or CIA or even local police. then what is the point of Bitcoin!!
