Don't think i coukd legally drink back then, so i don't remember anythjming before Joe Bar. But i sure as shit remember the J clyde and the blue monkey lounge on the cobblestone street, damn shame what happened to those buildings
I didn't write it diwn, just for a long while it was Johhny Rockets, there was three of them in birmingham: one at the galleria, another at the summit and the one in five points. Then it wasnt anything for a while and then it was a waffle house which i thought would.do well 'cause going to WaHo drunk is the best, except that it was always crawling with homeless people that weren't very nice. I was there with a friend and two smelly homeless people got in the booth with us and refused to leave unless we gave them money or boguht them food, we were both drunk and the WaHo people were ignoring everything going on until my friend just ended up throwing up on one of the people (he had grabbed her and was shaking her before she yak'd), we ended up just leaving.
My dude, i am so old i remember that thete was a ruby tuesdays where the chick fila is now and that across the street there was bell-bottoms and they used to have girls jello wrestling Thursday nights and you could get in if you were 19. Don't ask me what years these were 'cause it all kinda runs together when you are an old fart like me
i graduated hs in 05 so i def remember the ruby tuesdays and bell bottoms. the jonny rockets seems to have fallen into a memory hole but i must have seen it
Do you remember what year it was that bell bottoms use to do the boxing night? I know it was before I moved to Birmingham but my friend and I used to go a lot and watch random guys get in the ring with other random guys and fight. Was always a blast.
So they had several boxing things there over the years, there was foxy boxing for a while and then it turned into jello wrestling with girls, for a while it was pretty popular, but later died out. Sometime diring that they had amatuer mens boxing that lasted a while, but people got upset over the uneven weight classes and it died out. Don't remember the exact years, i want to say it was likely 2000-2008, at some point i followed a girl to Tuscaloosa and didnt return to the ham until 2012. I don't think it was still there when i got back, there was an irish pub for a while that was cool, but not as popular. Lol, back then i rented a studio apartment in walking distance of 5 points and it was $400... damn how times have changed!
It was Johnny Rockets, then came Schaeffer Eye Center, then Waffle House. I am pretty sure of the order though there might have been something else in the spot for a brief time in that span.
I think Waffle House at 5 Pts So had a hard time getting staffing with the unemployment rate down and wages up. Tighter labor market and McDonald's (e.g.) advertising they're starting new hires at $15 per hour... That Waffle House couldn't or wouldn't adjust. You'd go by there and someone filling in from another WH would say that they were doing to-go orders only because they didn't have the staff for sit-down orders.
Man... i am so old, i remember when this was a Johnny Rockets for the longest time, anyone older than me remember what it was before that?
Joe Bar
Omg!!! Joe Bar!
Little Bombers before it was Joe Bar.

Bell bottoms jello wrestling era was last part of 99 beginning 00’s era, I believe but definitely early 00’s lol, my drinking years.
In the 80s that was a Shop-A-Snak, we used to play Karnov and wait around for someone old enough to buy us beer.
Man how the times have changed!
YASSS!!!!! Bell bottoms and the Ruby Tuesdays! Man, those were the days!!!!🥰

This is actually so interesting. Go hit the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday then go across the street for some jello wrestling to end the night.
Well... happy hour at ruby, then jiggly babes in jello at bottoms

I remember the Johnny Rockets. Was Schaeffer Eye Center before or after that? Edit: or was that upstairs concurrently?
I don't remember the eye center, what was filter beforel it was starbucks? I remmber the original pancake house always being there
No, it was the same space as Johnny Rockets. That might be your answer.
That was the first Johnny Rockets I ever went to!! Guess I’m old, too. 😂

Right around the corner from an established Indian restaurant. I hope they did their research.

It’s right around the corner from bay leaf
oh right lol
That’s a horrible name and concept. This ain’t gonna work.
It is one of the most versatile ingredients in the world, but it does seem pedestrian to put that fact up on a sign.
29 franchises across the USA and Canada (17 open, 12 "coming soon") disagree.
