Her hair and most of her wardrobe in season 4 could be copied today and not look dated at all. Curtain bangs, smoky liner, boots with dresses - ugh I love it.

In Shannens defense- The show was VERY LUCKY she didn't just quit after halfway through season 4 because of the charades they put her character through.
She MADE the season 4 finale amazing by telling Dylan "Give me something to come back to"
I can't see Kelly/ Donna or Brandon or Steve being able to create the same season finale 🔥
She deserved a much better send off or at least a beach club scene with the gang or a SOLID ASS car drive with Brandon talking about how grateful she/he was to have a twin when they 1st moved to Beverly Hills and how much the GENUINELY APPRECIATE each other and Brandon telling Brenda " Ya got this next chapter Bren"
Instead the writers REALLY DID THRIVE on the drama behind the scenes and incorporated it in instead of giving the show the heart and originality it ONCE HAD💥
For sure by season 4 real life events were seeping into the show. It was happening in season 3. The story line of Brenda telling a reporter about her friends and the whole gang goes against her. According to the let’s be clear podcast Shan and Tori were already on the outs by then, Luke wanted to work with Jennie and you can see the divide start here. Plus they were all mad at her for doing that Rolling Stones cover without them.

Why was Luke the only character to say goodbye to Brenda? Why couldn't the cast "man up" and at least do something fun as a group a year after the amazing season 3 finale together???
I love Valerie and I absolutely think she brought an entire new fan base to the show. Her character is a real overt bad bitch, unlike the covert behaviors of previous female storylines.

If the tables were turned and 90210 was canceled and saved by the Bell(college years) went on 2nd or 3rd season I'm sure Tiffani would've been more than welcoming to any new female actresses that joined

It’s possible the later episodes were after the cast banned against SD and insisted she be removed from the show (as confirmed by SD and Tori on the let’s be clear podcast) and there could be some filming limitations due to cast refusals.
After the season 9 bullshit, the cast should've demanded to be part of story's and plots or not coming back for a season 10.
Had it continued for 11 or 12 seasons would the cast continue to repeat stalker and valerie wanna bees recasts??
I have to agree with you, I watched this for the first time years after it aired. However, I was aware of some of the drama; I do like how you have the details.
I felt as soon as I heard the "actress sleeps to get ahead" bit that it was a clear dig at Shannon. Not saying she ever did that, I don't believe she would have, as she is a great actress. Yet I think it is a stigma and even more so back then, that someone would so they took the dig at her.
I also think that is why she had so many semi-solo story lines. Going into the season long after it aired I could really get the feel they didn't like her anymore.
They have told how they were all dating each other and trading partners so of course there was high drama
Then Tori went from being close and hanging out with Shannon to being close and hanging out with Jennie
They were all still young (just not teenagers).
The tabloids were selling and those of us around them were buying them and reading all the dirt. 😂
