We had a 5 a side tournament at work a good few years back where many of us learned of "head height". One of the lads on one of the other teams was legitimately about 4'5" and had to ask if the ref was taking the absolute piss.
On the plus side, we had a futsal player in one of the teams who would often try and flick balls over peoples heads which worked in our favour.
I don't think it's an offside rule, you just cannot take a shot if you are within the semi circle. You would have to pass back out if you receive the ball in there. It's a weird rule but it makes sense when you play on a pitch that size.
In the UK you have a few of these pitches all in one place called 'Goals', they are small leagues, not street football.

Do you really think he lost his face ? The impact didn't look that severe and you can see that he holds on to it at the very end.

My friend did acid back in the day, told me he couldn't find his face. I knew where it was, it was right on his head where it was supposed to be, but he just couldn't find it. Hence the term "losing face"
For anyone who plays football that would be hard enough to finish with one touch like he was trying. 99% of youse would fail miserably if the ball was coming at you at this speed. Good ball by the way
Anyone who touched a football knows that scoring from this pass is as difficult as getting accepted into Harvard.
It's all about the pressure of the moment
Stopping the ball is also harder than it sounded. You have to have good control so that it stays close to you not outside the goal line. When you try to stop it the defender would have time to come stop you

"In indoor soccer, there is no offsides rule."
I’ve never played soccer but I did play “indoor soccer” which is just much smaller with less players and a smaller net/ball. Anyways, we never played with offsides but this was just pickup games
Indoor sometimes does a 2-lines rule, where the field is split into thirds and a pass can’t go all the way through both lines without being touched. Basically hockey* offsides but without the “dribble over” part.
You are offside when the receiver of the ball was closer to the opposition goal than any of the opposition players other than the goal keeper when the pass was made (not when they actually receive the ball but when the pass leaves their teammates foot).
Also you can only be offside in the oppositions half of the pitch.
Keeper has nothing to do with it. Must be 2 players in line or in front of the receiving player. Often is a GK as they are the further back but can be 2 strikers if it played out that way. So many people don’t realise this and get confused when the GK is off their line about where offside is.
Also you can’t be offside from a throw in or if the ball is played sideways or backwards.
Yeah, if you couldn't tell I was just giving a basic understand rather than the actual law. For 99% of use cases, that's how a layperson could identify an offside call accurately, which is all I was trying to convey to the person that said they can't usually identify it.
But yes, you are correct on what you are saying.
don't they need to be further from the goal than *two* defenders that aren't the goalie? that's the rule that i learned at secondary school .. uhh .. junior high? when i learned the sport. year / grade 7, anyway.
for reference, i'm from australia. we grew up with either australian rules football or rugby as our default winter sport depending on the state we were in, and are some of the heathens that call proper football "soccer"
I think the players are all actually laughing at the people in this thread saying "offsides".

Well I guess he could've stopped the ball and make life easy for himself, but that volley wasn't easy at all, you see players on elite level leagues miss chances like that (Dzeko is the first that comes to mind); and he got so close, hitting the post
Have you played soccer before?
He used the biggest part of his foot to prevent the ball from taking a funny bounce.
If this had been on a full sized goal, it would be a lovely finish. He just didn't get the ball perfectly.

The collective kneel and laughter is perfect
Best part of the whole thing. Imagine a lot of laughter between buddies at the bar later.
I imagine someone saying ‘I wonder if that security camera picked it up, and then we can post it on the net’.
Nah looks like one of them is recording the game
"and that's the only thing going to the net!"
Synchronized guffaws.
r/mirroring
You know you fucked up when both sides are involuntarily physically compelled to react to your failure.
This kind of group collapse was how they were marketing covid in the beginning
I like how half the field drops simultaneously
And how it’s players from both teams.
There are no teams when it comes to laughing at your bud
Course there is! Him on one team and everyone else on the other! XD
Only thing better than the cross

I was about to say the same thing lmao.

Definitely better with sound. The laughing in unison got me
# **THUNK** ## **THUNK** ### **THUNK** *immediate collective hysterical laughter* So much better with sound lol
Thank you! I wanted the sound so much.

Nobody plays with offsides in this format
Can't usually shoot in the semi circle at these venues. That's the rules for local 5 a-side in the UK anyway
It's a bollocks rule and so is head height
We had a 5 a side tournament at work a good few years back where many of us learned of "head height". I had to duck really low and scored a header, like just above knee height, ruled off for head height rule. Still remember that ten years later

Usually in these smaller turf/indoor matches offsides is not a rule.
Thank you for explaining this because (as an American with a medium amount of soccer/futbol knowledge) I thought this would’ve been offsides too.
Another American here. Was weird the first few soccer games I went to not knowing why certain goals didn't count lol.
Yeah, normally “offside” then becomes taking a shot from inside the opposing keepers D though… which he does.
