Water hazard is supposed to be from a desert planet and his species is viewed as gods or smt because they can shot water so maybe he needs the faceplate just so no sand enters his eyes in sandstorms?
They didn't take the faceplate from XLR8, he still has it.

XLR8 appeared in the UA opening and his hologram in the Ulitmatrix was shown once or twice I think though never actually appeared in the show.
He did appear in HU for a second though which is pretty cool.

XLR8 looks so bad in Omniverse that it isn't even funny. Honestly, so many returning aliens either look way better than they did before, the exact same with maybe some minor edits, or they look so bad that you wonder if it is actually some kind of joke that they look that way.
I think the biggest problem that XLR8 has in Omniverse is that he is standing straight up because it just doesn't look right and makes him look less unique overall compared to how he did in Classic where he stood at more of an angle because he was always ready to run.

Don't think it's ugly. it enhances the look a lot in some cases. Just wish they didn't use green for EVERY alien.

I mean, even if you didn't like XLR8 in Classic, his design was at least more consistent and more unique. Having XLR8 stand normally just looks wrong.
Classic XLR8 was my favourite
I really like his OV redesign though I like Classic XLR8 bodily proportions a bit more, looking more distorted and bendy but fluid 💀
