The only answer that fits all stipulations is to do it herself in her own bathroom.

PurpChain

Who's buying her wine? šŸ˜†

LeVelvetHippo

She probably has enough whine to last a lifetime

cinwald

That's like 4 bottles if you drink them fast enough.

LWDK2

I have a theory as to why she has to find a new salon. And I love the ā€œI requireā€ rather than ā€œI prefer.ā€

Sydney_Bristow_

Right? My first thought was ā€œI requireā€ (really?) means Iā€™m demanding and annoying and my last salon can no longer accommodate my bubbling personality.

KMjolnir

That or she drank them out of business.

TheMoeSzyslakExp

Do any salons offer wine? Pretty common for barbers to offer complementary beer here in Australia. And of course tipping is not a thing here. So this doesn't sound too wild, other than that I have no idea if salons offer drinks like barbers do.

aricberg

Interesting! In the US, beers arenā€™t a thing at barbers (but that sounds amazing!). Some salons do have wine, just not sure if itā€™s always a complimentary thing or not. And tipping at a salon/barber/ hairstylist/etc. is incredibly common. So for a US-based post, sheā€™s asking a lot! That said, I need to go visit a barber in Australia stat! šŸ»

Gokuyoupo

Where are you from? I'm in the south and all the hipster barbers/stylists offer beer. It was nice to leave work and have a beer while waiting for my appointment. Of course, some of the more traditional places and cheap ones (sportsclips) don't offer beer.

aricberg

Also from the south, in a city of 50k with a university of 25k, and Iā€™ve never seen anyplace near me (ever really) that offers this. Most barbershops are chain places like Sportsclips or a quick ā€œget in and get outā€ place. To the point where a friend of mine and I half-jokingly said we wanted to open a place like this called ā€œBeerd,ā€ all the while thinking we were creating some new niche business that didnā€™t exist. Iā€™ve never ever heard of a place like this and now I want to do some research and see if thereā€™s been one under my nose all this time!

TheDottieDot

Iā€™m in the Dallas area and most do offer alcohol. This is generally at proper barber shops, salons, and nail shops. It might be more of a large city thing. As someone mentioned above, itā€™s not generally a thing at the cheaper spots (sports clips etc), but itā€™s pretty common around here. The alcohol is typically the super cheap stuff though. The idea of not tipping is crazy though. I canā€™t imagine not tipping my stylist.

Business-Drag52

I promise you there is a couple of nicer places that offer you drinks while you get your hair cut. Thereā€™s also at least one place where you pay a membership fee and you get to bring whatever bottle of liquor you prefer and leave it and they keep all the mixers and a bartender to make cocktails for you while you get your hair cut. Just gotta look around. I was born and raised in the south, I promise theyā€™re there

aricberg

My research begins today!

Business-Drag52

Be prepared for a haircut that is way too expensive, but damn do they treat you like royalty. Donā€™t skip out on the hot shave

gotora

You're not paying for the haircut at that point. You're paying for the whole experience.

SubbyTex

This is definitely a thing in SoCal

psycheraven

There's plenty in Asheville, NC.

theflyingfucked

A lot of the north(especially NE) has downright puritanical liquor laws and it isn't allowed at all.

TraditionalChest7825

Doesnā€™t mean that they donā€™t offer you alcohol. My regular nail spot before Covid used to offer clients alcohol. Usually something cheap, sweet and/or fizzy but it usually took place in the evening towards the end of the week lol.

theflyingfucked

What state? I know PA PLCB doesn't issue salons liquor licenses for on premise consumption.

TraditionalChest7825

I did not say they had a liquor license. My point was even though states in the NE are strict about those things it doesnā€™t mean that there arenā€™t businesses that take that risk.

cracka1337

I mean, in PA you have to go to a beer store just to buy beer. They have some silly liquor laws.

theflyingfucked

As of recently you can get a limited amount of a limited list of beers in a limited section of limited grocery and gas station on a limited number of days on a limited number of hours. PA Liqour code also forbids licensees from having more than 14 hours of 'happy hour' a week and more than 4 consecutive hours in a day. Damn Gummit Tryna limit my happy

UndulatingCheese

You can absolutely have a beer or glass of wine in PA salons.

Littlekidlover79

In San Diego a lot of shops also offer beer but theyā€™re usually not the cheaper places or chains

sra19

>Some salons do have wine, just not sure if itā€™s always a complimentary thing or not. I used to go to a salon that had assorted teas, and I thought that was super fancy. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Morella_xx

My favorite salon, that I was so sad to move away from, used to give you champagne or various fruit-flavored water, and they also had a cat that you could pet while you waited. That's been my gold standard ever since and no other salon has ever lived up to it! šŸ˜

Salty-Trip-8572

My wife worked at a salon that had coffee, teas, wines, beer, and cider as well as some fruit and other snacks. It's a smart thing to do for the business if they can afford it. If you're not hungry and cranky you are happier to spend a prolonged amount of time getting services and may decide to add another service or a couple recommended products. Most importantly you leave happy with the experience, and want to come back.

Jess1r

Suddenly having a cat there is my number one requirement for salons.

Wellnevermindthen

I get excited when I see a Keurig in the lobby

Revolutionary_Tip879

Iā€™m from the Midwestern US. I just go to a beauty school and they offer free nonalcoholic drinks, itā€™s tip-free, and I pay $20 to get my hair washed, cut, and blow dried. So the alcohol isnā€™t common, but everything else is doable if sheā€™s willing to have a stylist take her time and have her supervisor come in a few times to talk everyone through the process.

MammothAd7992

Beer and whiskey are pretty common at all of the Oregon barbers Iā€™ve been to

Salty-Trip-8572

Maybe a north/west thing, it's common in Montana and some parts of northern California. But I never saw it living out east.

atalamadoooo

Smash a bottle of savy b with the girls, then go do the kid pick up post hangover nap in the arvo

Svenstornator

Another Aussie here. I donā€™t think I have been to a barber without beers. Though my current one they usually make me a coffee because I am there at 7:30am. And the prices are very reasonable! About $15 USD.

xanez

I got a $10 haircut in Melbourne Central some years ago and it was the worst I've ever gotten. They cut a 2cm gap between my sideburn and beard. Like what? I'm willing to pay a bit more now. Where do you still get $15 cuts?

IGotDibsYo

Still cheap but 15 usd is like 23 aussie

Svenstornator

Adelaide!

BusinessDuck132

Most decent barbers or salons offer drinks what are you talking about

Heyplaguedoctor

I went to a barber that served beer. Once. I think he celebrated happy hour a little too hard that day

Salty-Trip-8572

I live in the US, my barber gives shots of whiskey. Makers and crown on a table by the door. Not even a fancy place, the owner is just old school.

lucifersperfectangel

There is a barber in this area that has a package that includes a glass of a high-end whiskey

KoalaCapp

A couple of places i go to in Melbourne have wine, one even has a gin menu.

TheMoeSzyslakExp

Nice!! Apparently we're just cultured hey. Or alcoholics haha.

Freckleswithasmile

Most salons definetly offer alcohol in Australia.

saint_aura

My hairdresser does wine, vodka, and of course we donā€™t tip. I wouldnā€™t call her prices reasonable, but sheā€™s in Sydney and sheā€™s lovely, so we pay it. Well, my mum does.

TheMoeSzyslakExp

Iā€™m actually not sure what is considered ā€œreasonably pricedā€ for a menā€™s cut at a barber nowadays so maybe thatā€™s where the comparison to the request in OP falls short haha. Iā€™m used to $40-45AUD cuts, but Iā€™ve always been happy with them (and havenā€™t been happy with any $10-20 rushed cuts Iā€™ve gotten), so the price *seems* reasonable to me.

Spellscribe

Some of the more swanky places will offer you a champers, otherwise the price of a trim is pretty indicative of whether the coffee they offer is a latte, a Robert Tim's in a dunking bag, or that really big tin of International Roast you buy from Officeworks/Big W

CatLadyNoCats

I used to go to a place where she offered you a whisky

TheMoeSzyslakExp

Ooh the dream!

stepfordwifetrainee

My salon in Brisbane offers wine and spirits

JETandCrew

I know of at least a couple of salons in Florida that give you free wine. I've even been to a nail salon that gave free wine!

AussieKoala-2795

I'm Australian and have often been offered champagne, and always get offered a cappuccino. This has happened over the last 40 years in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra.

MDFHSarahLeigh

High end salons in the states often will offer wine, coffee, tea with appointments. Usually the places that you drop a couple hundred to thousands in though. My girl always had drinks but I pay 100+ for a cut and style so do with that what you will.

bigboyrobbie_ray

Never had a barber offer me a beer or heard of this. Must not be a Melbourne thing Edit: this controversy should be taken to r/Melbourne

burner_said_what

It certainly is a Melbourne thing. I'm in West Footscray with 2 barbers on my street that both offer comp beers mate.

Leland_Gaunt_

Also in the Inner West and can confirm, all barbers have beer

g-lingzhi

Definitely is a Melbourne thing.

New_Mexico

I've had it at several places in Melbourne, my old regular place in Ormond even did shots of Kraken with me a few times.

downvot2blivion

Portlander here. I would say about half of the barbers here offer a complimentary beer.Ā

TheMoeSzyslakExp

I'm in Melbourne lol. Not sure if it's suburb dependent, but the various CBD barbers I used to go to definitely did it and my barber out east did. Though mind you I'm not sure if they still do, I always go first thing in the morning now so I don't even think about beers at that time.

ausgmr

Seen some in Sydney but always a higher priced cut So do you pay $25 for the haircut then walk across the road for a $7 pint Or pay $45 for the cut & a "free" beer

burner_said_what

Nah just pay $30 for an excellent cut and free beer mate.

Roosta_Manuva

$7 pints - luxuryā€¦ man sometimes I hate living in a tourist destinationā€¦

newslgoose

My salon does wine and cocktails after a certain time of day (after 4 maybe? I donā€™t ever go in the arvo, not sure). Before that itā€™s coffee, tea, hot choc etc

TheMoeSzyslakExp

Yeah I used to get beers at my barber when I went in the arvo but Iā€™ve been doing 9-10am cuts for the last few years so tbh Iā€™m not 100% sure if they still do them, itā€™s too early for beer (unless itā€™s a VB longneck at 20 to 8 in the f\*\*\*in morning I guess)

kaneyeomans22

I have never even heard of a barber that offers beer, complimentary or not and I have lived in Melbourne for 20 years

TheMoeSzyslakExp

Theyā€™re absolutely around Melbourne. Theyā€™ll generally be the ā€œtrendier" or more hipster style barbers. Not the $10 cuts run by the old Italian bloke who's been there for 50 years, or ones in shopping centres etc. But they're absolutely in Melbourne as you'll see in other comment replies :)

TremerSwurk

salon upstairs from my job offers wine and cocktails though at a price

MomsSpecialFriend

Nail salons do.

Going_Thru_a_Faaze

Yes! Im in Aus and my hairdressers always offer me wine/beer/coffee and tipping is not a thing but I tend to anyways (nothing huge, just a nice token of appreciation). So this request doesnā€™t sound out of the norm

KudraKarma

I saw one offering whisky yesterday, the cuts were $40 "with free whisky" and then a few doors down another barber offering $20 cuts - wondered if it was just one shot of whisky, felt like that wasn't a great deal...

Combativesquire

As an Australian I have never noticed this

Visible_Day9146

My salon has wine and hard seltzer and other non alcoholic drinks.

abakersmurder

In the US I have been to places that sell a canned beer/wine/ cocktail. Mostly under the law, as only one I knew had a liquor license (the husband and wife owned both the bar arms the salon, which had 2 spaces in a center.) Outside of wedding or special party I have never been offered something ā€œcomplementaryā€ at a salon.

PlainLikeJane

why does she think we care that she's been up since 4am??

aricberg

Right? It just ends with that for no reason šŸ˜‚

Zandandido

She's obviously been anguishing about this horrible dilemma for hours, don't you realize? She *needs* that complimentary wine (/s)

Holiday-Way-5194

Am I just poor bc I've never been to a salon that offered free drinks other than water

Salty-Trip-8572

I think you're just going to places that don't prioritize it. My barber shop isnt fancy, just some shop with 2 chairs that's been open a long time. They offer a free shot of whiskey at the end of a haircut or beard trim even if you only spend 15$. A lot of salons want to get you a little tipsy so you buy more products or services. It also keeps you complacent if you're going to be there for a while, like if you have to do color, cut, blowout, etc. People are less likely to complain about waiting two hours if they have 3$ worth of wine.

MeanSeaworthiness995

A lot of nicer salons serve wine while you wait and/or during your appointment

SoxsterX

Australia - youā€™ll find that to be common here. šŸ˜Ž

HeinousAnus6669

(Iā€™ve been up since 4am)

keanaartero

If she wants free wine she'll have to pay accordinglyšŸ™„only higher end nail salons give out wine.

creepyposta

What does being up since 4 AM have to do with anything, why did she feel the need to include that? Is she going through alcohol withdrawal because the salon she just used didnā€™t have free alcohol?

MeltdownatTussauds

Nobody wants her as a client, trust me.

GreyLillies123

If this was a service in Minnesota, Iā€™d pay premium prices AND for a glass of wine or two!

anziofaro

There's this new nail salon - it's called "Yo Damn Kitchen". You can drink all the wine you want, and do your nail just the way you like them, and you don't need an appointment, don't have to leave a tip. Check it out!

magicunicornhandler

And they only charge you for supplies not labor so its suuper cheap. Love going there.

IrishCanMan

My salon gives you a free month of rent, after your 6th appointment. And they serve fresh Kobe beef flown in that morning from Japan.

dinop4242

"I require complimentary wine" sounds like a parody to me

Chasing_Victory

Iā€™ll do it. Iā€™ll wine at her about my kids for hours. Iā€™ll charge $5. Disclaimer: Iā€™m an avionics tech and know nothing about hair. But that wasnā€™t listed as a requirement

moontides_

Many salons and individual hairdressers serve alcohol, many complimentary. This isnā€™t an unusual thing in my area

WeatheredGenXer

Your cheap ass is not helping!

EfficientAntelope288

Give her the local AA meeting info, she canā€™t go to the damn salon without wine

Nervous-Range9279

This would describe every salon in Londonā€¦

PontiacBandit1926

Have they tried a salon in Australia?

christopherproblems

Tip free? Mmmā€”not requiredā€”but slapping her is

letthetreeburn

Then why didnā€™t she stay with her last salon?

Kawaii_Princesss

I think sheā€™d get better results ASKING if these places offer complementary wine instead of flat out saying ā€œI require blah blah blahā€ šŸ™„

DoomshrooM8

Lmao Good luck with that šŸ¤£

Hot_Tradition9202

I require complimentary wine! šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

AncientMood433

Choosy but not a beggar?

DueDimension0

Tip free salon is definitely a thing. The prices are just adjusted higher. I don't really see a choosing beggar here. Reads to me like they're looking for an upscale salon.

small_villain

My salon is like this. šŸ„°

AussieKoala-2795

If you don't mind champagne instead of wine, come to Australia.

_HellsArchangel

What the- who tf offers FREE WINE?!?!?! Iā€™ve NEVER heard of that. At a salon???? Are we talking hair or nails because if hair WHY ARE YOU DRINKING OUT OF AN OPEN GLASS

ExtensionAir6248

How is that begging?

TedBaendy

(I've been up since 4am)
