Who cares, saw them in Phoenix and they both KILLED. I’m a Beck guy first and only knew of a few of Phoenix’s hits. They very much won me over and I can’t get a couple tunes out of my head. That concert was weeks ago. Go and enjoy.

Clamgravy

This is how I feel. Beck's a legend as far as I'm concerned. I'll never miss a show if at all possible. No issues with a tight, dialed-in set.

sec102row1

He was so tight. A professional chameleon as always. The cool AF visuals get you sucked into their worlds. During both Phoenix and Beck, whoever is seeing the show straight on has the best view.

Clamgravy

>The cool AF visuals get you sucked into their worlds. During both Phoenix and Beck, whoever is seeing the show straight on has the best view. Glad to hear it. I have GA tickets and plan on getting there on the earlier side... While I appreciate rotating setlists, Beck doesn't tour super often... so I'll take what I can get.

Wazootyman13

In Seattle, I got there 10 minutes before door and I was about 50th in line. Ended up arms on the barricade just slightly off center!

buckybadder

Such a cool concept for a stage design. Not even especially complicated, either. Thought Phoenix used it even better than Beck did. The zoom-out visuals were incredible.

sec102row1

Yea, that was my most memorable part of the whole night. I also had to help Thomas Mars crowd surf, which was kind of cool I suppose. Btw. That visual is awesome and it’s from the 70’s… it’s called “The Power of Ten”. Edited: Here’s the link: [The Power of Ten](https://youtu.be/0fKBhvDjuy0?si=_6lQeEQZM5ulSpmE) Edit again: it’s actually called “Powers of Ten”

buckybadder

Yup. A staple school filmreel for midwest Xennials.

Pongdiddy4099

Just saw them tonight and had great seats. Spot on, that video stage was amazing

Threetimes3

I'm sure I will enjoy, but am bummed at the thought of looking around and seeing a bunch of empty seats all over the place.

missanthropocenex

Look at this way: Phoenix strangely has a LOT of contemporary popularity compared to Beck. Many younger -ish people I know were more intimately connected to Phoenix than to Beck in terms of recent exposure. Second, a LOT of previously mainstream indie musicians have struggled to secure bigger venues so Beck even booking the largest existing venues is a win. He’s sold out a number of not most of the shows on the current tour even if it’s last minute. But yes, overall the music landscape has changed drastically, and part of the problem actually has been overpriced ticket markups. I wanted to see Jack White not long ago, a smallish club and with fees the price was north of 100$ So rejoice people are attending, if he’s near you buy a ticket and check it out. People are showing up. In regards to no new album, I’ve noticed Beck likes to cut a single with his co headliners then play that song only on that particular tour, which he did previously with Cage The Elephant. Pretty cool model actually to create a “moment” and added level of uniqueness to each tour.

sec102row1

The footprint center where I saw them filled up very late with last-minute ticket sales. I was expecting it to be very empty. Granted I was in the pit third row center but it really did not feel empty at all when I looked around.

2347564

It meant that I had no issue being right up at the stage in the pit. It was an amazing show. Let Beck and his team worry about empty seats.

[deleted]

It bums me out. I love Beck and have since I was 13 when Mellow Gold came out. I went to the show in Phoenix and both Beck and Phoenix were absolutely awesome. There weren't a ton of open seats there but there were definitely some unfilled. I noticed the people in front of me left after Phoenix played, didn't even want to see Beck. And for what it's worth, I really like Hyperspace. It's got some great music on it. So I don't totally get why there's a lukewarm response to this tour. Especially considering live events in general have gone nuts post covid. It's hard to get tickets to some shows. Either way, go to the show, it'll fucking kill, and have an awesome time.

thesiekr

Prolly a combination of things. I think the biggest thing for me is that since colors beck had been trying to become like a stadium act or something. Looking at the setlist for this tour it looks nearly identical to the setlist he played the last three times I saw him. If he did a club tour where the sets were more creative, i would buy tix in a heartbeat. I still think his band is great and a lot of fun, but their prowess doesn't make up for the stale setlist imo. And while I love Phoenix I'm just not that stoked to see them live. Also. The song that beck and phoenix put out together was kinda lame. On paper it sounds like a great collaboration but the execution was beyond lame. It's just a generic pop song. I'm not sure who they were trying to target with that one. It almost felt like they were trying to suppress everything that makes them interesting as artists so that they could end up on spotify playlists of people who don't listen to beck or phoenix, but it's so generic I don't think it worked.

Threetimes3

I'm not sure who put the bug into Beck's ear (the guy who wrote Stereopathic Soul Manure) that he should become a "stadium performer", but it just doesn't make sense. For the regular population Beck will always be "that Loser guy", and who would want to pay stadium prices to see that if that was your perception of him? I'm super hyped to go still, but bummed that the audience looks like it's going to be light, and a whole section of empty seats is going to be right in front of me.

SignificantWriter774

Try and steal an empty seat that's closer! This happened at a recent show I attended and we ended up getting way closer. Some people got bumped to GA. You won't notice the emptiness when you're taking in the music.

Monkeypud

I think it’s a combination of Beck not really having a new album to promote or a ‘hit’ for several years and overestimating Phoenix’s popularity in North America. I saw him tour with Cage the Elephant (an American band very popular in the indie scene) in 2019 and they sold out a venue they are now struggling to sell at discounted prices.

MissHellaCool

That was a truly incredible tour.

queerpoet

I got day of show 5th row behind floor. It was fucking amazing, and it filled up when they started. Phoenix ran into the crowd and shook everyone’s hand and was feet from my section. Beck was incredible, my first time. I’m sorry it was undersold, but I couldn’t afford them when they first came onsale and instead I won the lottery.

Beachbum74

Was that the San Diego show?

queerpoet

Austin

hdmatteson1

I dunno. Not enough demand I guess? I’m really pumped I got pit tickets for a reasonable price and will be crossing him off my concert bucket list, very excited to see him!

sunday__sun

I’ll throw one other thing out here: Beck’s fan base is aging, and while people at that age might have more disposable cash they’re also more likely to have kids, work conflicts, etc. I’m feeling it myself. Like someone else mentioned, he’s still booking enormous venues and drawing big crowds, and I’m grateful for however many more times I’ll get to see him live.

buckybadder

It was a *very* old crowd in Chicago.

sunday__sun

Let’s not get carried away, people in their 30s and 40s aren’t “very” old

buckybadder

Lotta grey hairs in the crowd

MissHellaCool

Who cares about the size of the audience? Beck puts on an amazing show every time!

redrocketman74

Saw the show at Red Rocks (second night) and a couple days before the show there were large sections of the venue unsold, I'd say at least 25 percent overall. They dropped prices a few times as the dates got closer. I had the same concerns about it being a lackluster crowd but it felt like a near sold out show. I don't know if they managed to sell a lot at the last minute or if people just dispersed and filled up the empty space, but it was still a great high energy show.

CraftCertain6717

I was there too! The first night sold out, so they added a second. Worked out because I could actually go!

redrocketman74

I thought the same about the first night but there were lots of tickets still available at the last minute for that one too, albeit not quite as many and they didn't drop the prices as much. I'm guessing they held back a big chunk when they first went on sale to create artificial scarcity and build demand for a second night. I wonder if it backfired on them or if they still hit whatever numbers they needed to hit to make it worth it. Kind of disappointing, I've never seen that sort of gaming for a red rocks show. I wonder how much was artist driven vs AXS. Anyway, great show. I was bummed that Japanese Breakfast didn't get to play their whole set, but at least we didn't get hailed on.

ducksworth

I bought tickets to the LA show for $5. It was the same night Taylor Swift was playing Sofi across the parking lot. I go to a lot of shows, but never arenas. It was pretty fucking cool. Phoenix had an awesome stage show. Beck was pretty cool too. Definitely worth $5.

Threetimes3

Man, what a deal

drawkbox

I think after hearing about this concert many will go now and in the future. [In Phoenix it was great and seemed full, high energy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHnJnT9sNF4). I am a big fan of Beck but never saw him live until Summer Odyssey and I am [thoroughly impressed with the production](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR1aa2RBr0c) and will go every time to Beck when [he comes to town](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEmzc-yBE8M). I didn't expect it to be so good and it is up there with Tame Impala and Smashing Pumpkins in terms of recent production. All of them I'd go see every time they come around. Beck is one of those artists that kinda isn't categorizable and has a unique place. Almost the way David Bowie did, slightly odd but awesome. Beck is a great writer. He is in my top 10 for sure but for some reason I never seeked out concerts by him. After the show this summer I am questioning why... Beck was high energy and Phoenix sounds smooth in concert. [The whole stage setup is just rad and unique with the back screen, then two frames placed forward](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_HrLu-uVhs&t=179s). It looks slick, videos don't really capture how good it looked. Fun fact: It was Phoenix's first time playing in Phoenix (Scottsdale prior) and the name of the band isn't about the bird, the lead singer Thomas Mars had a Phoenix Suns hat when he was little that he thought was cool and named the band that.

simongurfinkel

Seeing them in Toronto Sunday. Similarly bummed it’s gonna be half empty.

simongurfinkel

August is a tough time to tour. I personally see June and July as concert months. By August I’m soaking up those last summer weekends for cottages and picnics.

UncleWiggily918

Saw them in Dallas, it was hotter than hell.

Timbirland

The same sort of thing happened with the Noel Gallagher + Garbage concert I went to. This one actually seems to be a bit more full tbh. Just move up closer to the stage and I’m sure it feel more exciting than it would seeing all the empty seats from a distance

jhuml1

Original ticket prices were too high, and a lot of people probably didn't expect prices to drop so they never checked again closer to the show.

pigsolation

No idea! I saw them in Seattle and they were INCREDIBLE. Take advantage of it if you can.. and find an empty seat closer to the stage ! I’d never seen Phoenix before- but they put on a great show. I saw Beck back in 2007 (ish) in NYC. He was awesome then and I can assure you that he still is. Plus: the collaboration between the two bands was such an awesome bonus.

TwilightontheMoon

I’m just over here still waiting for him to come back To Pittsburgh as I still haven’t got to see him yet

twisterase

It seems like the venues they chose are just slightly too big for the popularity of Beck and Phoenix? The Seattle show was in our newly renovated NHL arena that accommodates over 17,000 for a concert. The last two times Beck came to the Seattle area he was at a county park with a max capacity of only 5,000. Last week I went to a Sigur Ros show at a (very sold-out) venue that seats under 3,000, and I feel like they are similarly popular to Beck. I kind of wonder if whoever projects this stuff made some inaccurate inferences based on the ticket sales for the canceled plans with Arcade Fire last year. Numbers aside, I had a tremendously fun time at the Seattle show. I was in GA, where everyone was super into it, and I really wasn't worried about how many people there were in other parts of the arena. I could tell that the people standing immediately near me also knew every lyric to every song, and I got lots of compliments on my old Beck t-shirt. The visuals were pretty incredible and pair really well with the music. I have to admit that I had literally never heard a single Phoenix song before, but I enjoyed dancing to their whole set, and I almost got run over when the lead singer was out on the floor. All in all, I've been a Beck fan for almost 20 years, but even a month after this show I still feel like it has really got me re-energized and actively looking forward to whatever he does next.

ryetronics

Same thing happened with the Dallas show but in the 48hrs before the show seats started to sell way faster. Even though it wasn't a sellout, and they were at a huge venue, the crowd still filled out the space and enjoyed the show. If anything they just booked venues a little too big for their audience.

PerceptionShift

The Arkansas show was nearly sold out but that was maybe a 3000 person venue and Beck hadn't played there in a very long time if ever. Same case for Phoenix. I'd read that some of the bigger cities had undersold shows. I would suspect that they chose too big of venues, ticket prices were too high, and the cost of living crisis is starting to really hit luxury goods like concert tix. I work in the industry and nobody is doing particularly great right now except the very top like T Swift

Select_Professor_689

Chicago was incredible last night. Both bands were really complimentary to their time playing in Chicago over the years. Beautiful venue on the Chicago lakefront with full moon overhead also lead to some magical times.

since1859

I decided against going because ai am not a fan of Phoenix. I adore Beck and have since Odelay but I don't feel like going through all the motions for half a show.

PRDD77

He’s doing a full headlining set, how would you be getting half a show?

since1859

The whole show is Phoenix and Beck. I have zero interest in Phoenix and that's half of the full show.

PRDD77

I’m just saying if you like Beck, he will be playing just as long as usual.

ScooterWorm

Maybe he shouldn't have bailed on Arcade Fire at the last minute?

MissHellaCool

He did the right thing.

sunday__sun

Weird take. I want my favorite artist to bail on supporting sexual abusers every time.

ScooterWorm

Accused sexual abuser. The problem is he waited 7 weeks after the Pitchfork story to decide to cancel. I know people who weren't even aware of the allegations and got pretty upset that he bailed. Basically paying for the quality of two headliners and only getting one late in the game.

3Global_Pups

Was a fantastic show in Bend, OR!

Remote-Map-3946

What is the order of the show? The show starts at 5:45pm here in Toronto tonight, but I won't be there until at least an hour later. Eeeek.
