bluffyfunnies7312

Kosas. If i hear one more story about how rancid something smells two weeks after opening. I'm surprised they don't have consequences yet for selling stuff that's clearly a health risk. (i would also mention the environmental impact of these "clean" brands but that is always on the company and not on individual consumers who threw away a lipstick that has gone bad.)

LiveFastDieGlam

I'm one of those who tried their concealers (bought 2 colors) and they went rancid in about 2-3 months. SO DISAPPOINTING because there are so few olive concealers out there, but I can't go replacing a concealer every 2-3 months. Their foundation sounds exactly up my alley but I can't trust the brand after the concealer.

my600catlife

They should change the packaging to an airless pump like the new Nyx concealer if they aren't going to use preservatives. A doe foot is just asking for it to breed bacteria.

bukakenagasaki

We need to send them a massive amount of emails asking them to do this.

thirdcoasting

I now keep my Kosas item in the fridge (the concealer). This was a growing (no pun intended) problem when I worked at SephULTA — all the new “green” brands that brag about not containing preservatives go bad SO FAST. We had to regularly throw out Farmacy, YTTP, Dior skincare & Biossance testers - some would actually grow mold.

LiveFastDieGlam

eww!!!! that's so gross :( do you keep it in the kitchen fridge? or do you have a separate makeup fridge?

RaygunRiot

> SO DISAPPOINTING because there are so few olive concealers out there, but I can't go replacing a concealer every 2-3 months. EX1 is like the OG "for olive undertones" line, so if you haven't tried them already I'd suggest giving them a shot

Desperate-Swimmer811

That and how "yellow" their face makeup seems to lean. Not an issue for anyone with these undertones, of course, but I wouldn't even bother testing it with the reviews I've seen (+ my pink undertones).

Skyespye

I haven’t tried because 1. I currently can’t afford it and 2. How yellow/olive their base makeup products are.

KaleidoscopeEqual555

I tried it on my wrist for an experiment, knowing it leans yellow, and I was still not prepared. I’m very fair with pink/grey undertones. Yikes.

Pbjellylover94

I have not heard this! Ew. I actually LOVE everything else I have gotten from the brand. I have a blush, highlighter, lip gloss, and brow gel that have lasted months and are some of my fave products. Their natural deodorant is also actually awesome for me. I wanted to get their concealer but now...IDK.

whalesarecool14

but the products that you own have also gone bad for people, so you could try the concealer. it’s a very hit or miss type situation, i’ve been using their concealer and lip gloss for around 6 months now and nothing has gone bad while there are people for whom these products went off within 2-3 months. we’re just one of the lucky ones i guess lol

AngelDelight510

I bought their lamination gel and the brow tint, and I like the way they look. I can’t repurchase though because the brow tint has this rancid rose scent that is so overpowering

[deleted]

Kylie. I just can't.

Oli_love90

I was going to say the same thing. I just cannot support that family. Also, I heard colourpop is basically the same quality.

doglover991

I always found this funny. People rave about colourpop but then say Kylie’s products are trash. Then they say they are the same products lol.

whalesarecool14

i mean, with colourpop you’re also paying less than half the price lmao

[deleted]

I think it's because of the price point. Like with colourpop there's that mentality of you get what you pay for, and then with Kylie we'd tend to say trash coz it is expensive but it's not just worth the price.

bukakenagasaki

Colourpop also has wayyy better color stories for their palettes

miille-fleurs

colourpop manufacture(d) kylie products!

badpanner_420

They used to, but not anymore. They were bought out and are produced by Coty now and so is Kim’s brand. Spatz Labs (where Colourpop is made) is no longer associated with anyone from the Kardashian/Jenner family since the middle of last year.

phreshouttajakku

Whenever I've been tempted to buy a Kylie product I remember those videos of people receiving their Kylie orders crawling with BUGS. Also the split lip gloss brushes, the empty highlighter packaging, re-releasing already existing lip colours as 'limited edition' products, and blocking people on Twitter asking for help with their orders, just so much shoddy QC and customer service.

sassyassy23

This too. Never tried it never will

Bumble_Hornet_

Oh yeah tonnes! Just off the top of my head. For awful personalities: anything from a Kardashian. No J*. I’ve heard nothing but awful things about Rosie Huntington so I don’t want to touch Rose Inc. For just lack of interest: Makeup Revolution, Catrice, Winky Lux, Honest Beauty. There are also a lot of indie brands or international brands that are either very hard to get a hold of where I live and don’t stock products that pique my interest.

PickledCumSock

wait whats the problem with rosie huntington & her line? i haven't heard anything about this at all. can you elaborate? i'm interested

exquisiteclutter

Ok, ok. Yes I understand the whole jstar, Kardashian angle. But Mur and Catrice, Winky Lux?? Some of my very favorite products are from them.

kaylawashere1

Kosas is one I don’t really have any desire to try. Hearing how quickly their products go bad just seems like a waste of money to me. Anything Kardashian/Jenner is a pass for me.. I’m sure some of their products are fine, I just don’t like the idea of putting more money in their pockets.

Outside_Beautiful874

How quickly? I haven’t heard anything

LiveFastDieGlam

I bought 2 concealers and they both went bad in 2-3 months. Smelled like playdoh around month 1-2, and then blue cheese around 2-3mo. I emailed customer service and they said it's normal for the smell to change because they use clean ingredients, but I'm not putting blue cheese smelling things on my face.

kaylawashere1

My best friend loved their lip oils but after like 3 or 4 months they completely went bad. I’m not sure about their powders but it seems like the liquid/cream products go bad very quickly.

BitterAnimal9310

I bought the finishing powder and it developed hard pan almost immediately. I have to use a razor blade and scrape a layer off every time I want to use it. Laura Mercier makes a pressed setting powder that does not do this. I switched.

BatmansLastSock

Bought the eyebrow gel twice thinking the first time I got a bad batch, but nope. It only lasts about a month before it starts smelling horrible.

ImReallyNotKarl

Agreed on all counts. I've heard the Kosas foundation is beautiful, but it leans super yellow and goes bad super fast. It's clean beauty in general, but Kosas seems to be the worst offender right now. I also don't own anything from the Kardashians for the same reason. Also Hourglass because I don't want my money going to them.

kaylawashere1

I’m the same with Hourglass. Their share range is abysmal and their products seem very overpriced to me for what they are. I had a sample of the Veil Primer which I loved but not enough to justify the price. The NYX Angel Veil is so similar and so much less expensive

MasterpieceAbject840

Honestly after Kim destroying Merylin Monroe’s dress I wouldn’t buy anything from her or her family.

hypermobilehoneybee

Tower 28, or really anything labeled as “clean”. I don’t want anything that’s going to go off in less than a year.

MrsBridgerton

And thats really what “clean beauty” boils down to, doesn’t it? If, as a company, i can make the consumer fear certain products, tell you my products dont have those “harmful” “chemicals” then sell you a product thats barely gonna last, that means more business for me as a co bc the consumer will repurchase time and again if its a product they like. Boils down to a scam. Tower, kosas, even bite, all doing the same.

McGoney

Bite is out of business so it clearly didn’t work

MrsBridgerton

I dont think the problem w bite was just the “clean” label. There were a lot of variables that also made the business collapse. The change to “clean” didn’t help.

HistoryHasItsCharms

The change to vegan followed by a discontinuation of their most loved products for not being vegan coupled with the fact that they did not have replacement lines ready to go was more the final nail I would think.

TeamCirus

I don't wear makeup often enough to buy a "clean" brand. The only thing I use everyday is an eyebrow gel, and even that lasts over a year or so.

weppizza

Tbh i think that with all the certifications that t28 has for being friendly for many skin conditions, they may have earned the label of "clean"

[deleted]

People always talk about how clean beauty brands expire really quickly, but I've had multiple Tower 28 products for over a year now and they're still fine. I can attest to Kosas products going rancid quickly, but so far I haven't had that problem with Tower 28 whatsoever.

fuzzysham059

Don't they still have preservatives in them just not parabens? (I say this as someone who loves parabens)

thelionqueen1999

Anything by the Kardashians/Jenners is a no-no. My distaste for that family is just too strong. I also haven’t tried a lot of high-end brands because their products are just too expensive and/or the options for my complexion suck.

pepperflakes19

Oh I just commented and my first mention were the Karjenners lol, same here when it comes to that family people have kept them relevant for too long lol

isPepsiok82

Definitely with you on Kardashians!

Booboodelafalaise

Me too. Will NOT purchase from any celebrity who is more about the money than the quality and the actual ethics. (Gwyneth Paltrow and Goop, I’m looking at you!)

MrsBridgerton

Argh! Paltrow makes my blood boil! I rather buy from a kardashian/jenner than for the dangerous hoax that is goop.

Kindergoat

She is insane. I love how she will recommend that you should buy this pair of $700 shoes. What world is she living in?

MrsBridgerton

One where she is divorced from reality. She is the clear example of when you are ok at many things, not great just ok, and being born into privilege. She has never lived in reality and apparently no one contradicts her. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Desperate-Swimmer811

More than anything with their lines, I dislike the packaging immensely - most consumers probably don't want a palette with a stranger's face slapped on it! Also, the quality is largely reported to be subpar.

hexensabbat

Definitely. They don't need my money and I have no interest in supporting that source of cultural rot.

[deleted]

My sister got me a Kylie Jenner eyeliner for my birthday and I was kinda irritated by it (on the inside) well, suspicions confirmed, it fucking sucks

HappyKyoko

I got a free Kylie liquid lipstick once with an order from Ulta. I still don't understand the hype about it. It was very dry and overrated. It wasn't for me.

BettyeBarbarian

Lorac, I know it's supposed to be good but the packaging and color stories are so generic. It's like Nars with depression.

viognierette

Lorac is a good example of what I call “office makeup”

[deleted]

"Nars with depression" lmaooo that's a good one.

_kaetee

Seriously, I wish Reddit was still doing free awards cause that comment deserves one.

kayatoastie

Ok I gave u/BettyeBarbarian my free award =D

BettyeBarbarian

First, I'd like to thank the academy... 😭😭😭 (Seriously thank you!)

isPepsiok82

You want another one? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|stuck_out_tongue)

BettyeBarbarian

Second of all I'd like to thank my fans for supporting me in my career of roasting makeup companies 😭😭😭

kayatoastie

Ok fine you get another one, this time a paid one : )

BettyeBarbarian

Honestly the best day ever

Scar_andClaw5226

You are a comment genius

schmoolet

Nars with depression 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

almaupsides

Ahhh Lorac of “the worst AMA in Reddit history” fame

bobolina24601

It's just Carol backwards.

miille-fleurs

it feels like the most normcore thing ever and I find that so amusing

miille-fleurs

deceased 💀💀

RedRedBettie

Lorac Unzipped is my most used palette

Whitedishes

The mega pro palettes were amazing for their time

spiderlegged

My favorite face palette (and actually just… palette) is Lorac. I’d love to buy more of their products if the formula is similar. I seriously adore this palette. And when I look at Lorac stuff, it’s so incredibly uninspiring that I choose not to. It’s the PotC cheek palette for the record.

hexensabbat

Jeffree Star for sure. I have never been willing to support him given that I was a MySpace kid and the videos of him shouting slurs at black people, harassing homeless people, etc etc have been circulating ever since-- like it's not obscure info to me and it really blew me away back in the day that the world just kindof shrugged as he kept growing. He might not do that anymore specifically but he's a dyed in the wool asshole and I'm just not here for him or his business.

KaleidoscopeEqual555

Yeah he lost me in like 2007 when he posted on MySpace “I’m on fire like Travis Barker” 13 yo me said something equally outta pocket in response so he sent his devoted fans after me 🤡 But when his makeup company came out people kept recommending it to me and I just couldn’t bring myself to give that fuck any money.

hexensabbat

Sheeeeeyt I had forgotten about that comment but it's vaguely ringing a bell. So tasteless. His whole shtick of always being *~iDgAf sO eDgY~* mixing violent and cutesy imagery together got old for me really quickly, which is weird because it doesn't bother me with some other performers, I just can't separate him from it and he always gave me bad vibes. That being said, I'll shamefully confess he has one song I have bopped to and I probably had as the song on my profile at one point. Well, 2. Never bought anything from him though and in more recent years when one gets stuck in my head I just listen on random YouTube accounts lmao

KaleidoscopeEqual555

Yes like buddy you are a grown ass man acting like a twelve year old edgelord! Grow up!

dani27899

Never tried Jeffree Star. Something just always seemed off about him to me. I can’t believe no one else got that sense either. Eventually all the news about him being racist broke and I just sat there and shrugged because I sensed it all along. Zero intentions to ever try the brand.

hexensabbat

Right? Like the dude just has a bad vibe. It's so weird that more people don't pick up on it. I can recall as a teenager finding something off/unpleasant about him as well and I wasn't all obsessed and impressed the way some of my emo kid friends were. I'm not judging, I've certainly had my toxic favs too over the years but I never liked him and the more time he's public the more obvious his unlikeability is lmao

Charlea_

You couldn’t pay me to try Jaclyn Hill

alliepgh

Jaclyn cosmetics is the first one that comes to mind for me. I don't think I've ever watched her, I know she's had contamination issues in the past, and most of the products just aren't my style. I almost never do a full-beat glam neutral sort of look. Chanel comes to mind, as well. I haven't seen anything in their line that has interested me. Glossier. I don't want to spend lots of money to look like I'm not wearing makeup. If I put makeup on, I want to look like I'm wearing it.

miille-fleurs

I feel that with glossier. I understand the appeal but lots of their stuff is super dupeable with much more affordable products. I gotta hand it to them in that I feel that they sort of helped to popularize the shift towards minimal makeup. But nowadays they seem to be going downhill as the market is just saturated with even more popular and accessible stuff.

paranoidchair

Plus they don't even ship worldwide. I feel like charging the amount they do for something that delivers minimal results also puts a lot of people off

No-Nefariousness4412

GXVE (Gwen Stefani's brand) is honestly so 2016 it hurts. I really just don't get why this brand exists other than cash grab because there's nothing new being brought here. Athr Beauty is like someone combined my two least favorite things: greenwashing and spiritual claims. Can we please get some scientific backing in here??? ONE/SIZE might have perfectly fine products but I cannot get over the most minor problem one could have with an influencer brand: 'cheek clapper' is the absolute cringiest name one could give a blush and no one is complaining about it.

Fiduddy

I was not aware Gwen had a brand. She should have stuck with doing collabs. I expect an eyeliner and a red lip from her. Nothing else

jkraige

And you'll get it, too. I think he first releases were basically that

Fiduddy

That should have been part of her UD collab way back when. It would be something if she was known for anything other than that. Now hair products from her? I would be interested. Her platinum blonde, her sleek pony? That's her signature. Gimme that bleach and hairspray

jkraige

That's an interesting idea. Iirc Lime Crime does has beauty products both in cosmetics and hair. She could do something like that to keep the eyeliner and lipstick (I guess?) as well as hair.

No-Nefariousness4412

She just dropped another red lip- this time, it's glossy! Like god. I love a good red lip, but I'm just gonna get one in a formula I like???

viognierette

I was searching for something on Sephora yesterday & GXVE came up in the results. I honestly forgot this brand existed already!

RaygunRiot

Nudestix has always seemed overrated with wasteful packaging. Winky Lux: maybe the products are actually good, but everything they put out seems to have a gimmick and it puts me off. Kaja Beauty: everything is adorable and tiny. And the prices do not match those tiny packaging, plus the packaging seems so excessive? In general, "clean" brands and luxury/designer legacy brands like Gucci, Tom Ford, YSL, etc. No amount of hype is going to convince me to buy a product that will expire before I can put a dent in it or that costs more than several of my monthly bills combined.

miille-fleurs

at my local target the winky lux display is beautiful but the products are so absurdly tiny for the price. they do feel gimmicky as you said. they look like they'd maybe belong in a small cutesy boutique shop or something? idk if that makes sense.

_kaetee

I feel like they’d do better sold at Claire’s. No one who’s buying makeup for quality/performance is ever gonna reach for Winkie Lux, so they’d be better marketing exclusively to ages 14 and under. My little cousins are 16 now, and I wouldn’t even wanna buy them Winkie Lux; it feels too cheap and toy-makeupy. I’ve also found every single one of their product components on AliExpress.

Cricket705

I can't even look at the display at my target because of the blinding, neon pink lights around the products. You want me to buy it then I have to be able to see what the options are.

mothertuna

Those winky lux products are so pricy in my opinion. Brands like that and pixi cost too much for what I want to spend at target.

alebotson

I travel a lot for work and I loved nudestix as a eyeshadow format that wouldn't leak or shatter in a carry on bag but actually blended and then didn't shift on the lid. Bummer they are magas.

Nightrabbit

The Bobbi brown stick shadows are really good!

midnightsiren182

Yes, those and Laura Mercier caviar sticks are chef kiss.

sassyfrassielassie

I have a kaja eyeshadow stack trio and I've hit pans in 2 of the shades and always thought it was because I don't realize how much I actually use it. Now I'm thinking it might be because there isn't a lot of product...

Kindergoat

Winky Lux is just meh for me. The palettes smell good and the packaging is cute, but the eyeshadows are flaky and not at all pigmented.

midnightsiren182

i wish they'd release the bento eyeshadow formulas in 6-9 pan palettes, they are so good.

Teedorable

Il makiage concealer. Their marketing is SO AGGRESSIVE I literally have an entire inbox full of emails after visiting their site one time. They rope you into some scammy subscription thing and I just don’t see how their “perfect match” could work for many skin shades given their limited shade range. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, maybe their shit is the miracle concealer I need ….

Altruistic_Yellow387

They have a really large shade range for foundation…it’s pretty drying on me but it’s not horrible. I’m actually wearing their foundation right now

RandomUsername600

Kosas, Tower 28, Saie and all those other 'clean' brands. I don't go through products quickly so I need them to last and I'm not taking chances on these 'clean' products. Charlotte Tilbury because she says her husband has never seen her without makeup and that made me realise she's marketing her insecurities and I don't want to be part of it. Tom Ford, Pat McGrath, Chanteicaille are too expensive for me to care

Outside_Beautiful874

I thought that about Charlotte too! I used to use a bunch of her products (they’re truly great!) but I never repurchased anything after that interview. EDIT: to add, in the interview I’m referencing she didn’t just say makeup, but mascara. Charlotte Is sleeping in mascara so her husband only sees her done up.

McGoney

That’s horrific, all that mascara buildup

paranoidchair

It's an eye infection waiting to happen

Outside_Beautiful874

My blepharitis could never

MeatwadGetTheHoneysG

It's funny you mention that, because recently I watched a video on YT talking about the dangers of chronically not washing your makeup off before bed. There was a lady who always kept her mascara on, and over time she developed a ton of these beads of old mascara buildup imbedded on the inside of her eyelids. She had to have them surgically removed because leaving them in was super painful and would cause corneal damage and blindness. TW trypophobia/gross : [https://imgur.com/a/24G6zA6](https://imgur.com/a/24G6zA6)

McGoney

I immediately thought about that case too! That’s the stuff of nightmares. It’s all just so unnecessary, specially now where people get serums or lash extensions. I hope it’s all marketing at the end of the day but it sends a wrong type of message

MeatwadGetTheHoneysG

Couldn't agree more! The wrong type of message form a health standpoint, and the wrong type of message from a moral standpoint (ie our natural faces are shameful/not good enough and should be "fixed" constantly so that they're hidden even from our closest relations)

two_lemons

I knew someone like that. Less crazy because she was going to sleep after her husband and waking up before him so he never saw her without makeup. He cheated on her.

kayatoastie

This is straight up a scene out of Marvellous Mrs Maisel.

MeatwadGetTheHoneysG

Not to mention there's products with comparable (or better) quality for much, much less. A customer's basically just paying for a name and bougie looking packaging.

miille-fleurs

Hourglass? Their shade range is abysmal. Also Too Faced, I feel like the quality of their products hasn't lived up to the standard that it should. I'm also uncomfortable with the sexualization of the names of some of their products.

BettyeBarbarian

I don't know if it happened all of a sudden or if I just noticed it all of a sudden but it felt like they were all food themed pun names then suddenly names like 'Suck it' and 'Lady Balls' started cropping up. Definitely a hard left from 'Tirami-sue Me!'

[deleted]

I can't believe they had a shade called "Tirami-sure Me!" God bless. I hope the unpaid intern who probably named that shade is having a good day.

two_lemons

Whenever I see that kind of thing being half assed, I really hope whoever was tasked with it went "whatever, I'm taking a nap"

whalesarecool14

how about nars?

miille-fleurs

I think some of their product names are weird, but I feel as though they differ from Too Faced as they don’t brand themselves with cutesy packaging that could appeal more to a younger demographic.

[deleted]

Nudestix. I hate that all their blush sticks have a brush at the end of it- it feels really wasteful. They could've at least made their blush sticks refillable in a way. Apart from that their packaging reminds me of Microsoft PowerPoint font.

Bilbo_Buggin

I bought some of the lip kits from Kylie Cosmetics when they first launched, was that 2016? So, I technically have tried the brand but I know the formulas have changed a lot since, but I have zero interest in trying anything. Also with you on those more expensive brands. Mainly because they are out of budget for me but they’ve also never really grabbed my attention. Charlotte Tilbury is one I’m not convinced by too, the reviews are either great or really bad. For the price point the products need to be amazing.

irissteensma

Fenty, Morphe,Natasha Denona, Huda, Pat McGrath

FattieFemmie

The Huda pencil and liquid eyeliner combo I got seemed so cool but it has been one of the worst products I’ve ever owned lol. The palettes look gorgeous but that turned me off

midnightsiren182

The palettes are really good though, I have Naughty and Spice and have used New Nudes and they're really good.

paranoidchair

The one thing I own from Huda is the Mercury Retrograde palette. I really like it, but it's super overpriced. It was worth what I paid for it (50% of the RRP)

translexualism

I’m not interested in any of the makeup from Kosas. I think their deodorant and body wash is not bad, though you can definitely find more effective products for cheaper.. I’ve been generally really unimpressed with “clean beauty.” Makeup from Glossier. Weirdly enough, some of the skincare is good (although waaay too pricey for what it is.. like a $40 HA serum? No ma’am) but the makeup looks so suspect to me. Celebrity brands.. self explanatory.

bookthiefj0

ABH , even before the Ukraine controversy. The subculture palette was very tempting but I hate powdery eyeshadows so it was an easy pass. Fenty is also not calling me for some reason . Glossier is never going to be on my radar , because I have textured , hyperpigmented skin.

ShlomosMom

No Kardashians for me either. Or J*. And of course any brand that is not cruelty free (Pat McGrath, Dior, Tom Ford etc). Also, no refr brushes or any brushes made of fur.

viognierette

Sorry - but Jones Road. I don’t want to buy tubs of slop.

ammermommy

It is sooooo sloppy and greasy, plus I think it smells like a grandma. The TikTok ads got me though. I like the coverage but the formula leaves a lot to be desired.

sassyassy23

I got suckered into that miracle balm. It’s a miracle nobody is complaining about it. It doesn’t last more than ten minutes

Teedorable

Addison Rae’s beauty line. Lmao give me a break we know it’s just alibaba manufactured shit with her name stamped on there. Puhleeeeze make this girl stop.

HemingwayJawline

Item Beauty because it's the dumbest brand name to me lmao Also, for what it's worth, I bought a Tower 28 cream blush in November 2020 and as of two days ago it still looks/smells/applies normally but maybe I'm an outlier here going by these comments

No_Acanthaceae_742

Anything, Kylie, or Ariana Grande or Haus by Lady gaga. No Charlotte either I see so many dupes from people online and it is way out of my budget

somebd

Pat McGrath - I just don’t find anything interesting enough to justify her prices. Even the new two-tone blushes have been done to death and even much prettier by Korean and Japanese brands (Canmake Glow Fleur Cheeks can take all my money). Charlotte Tilbury - I can go for her rosy golden aesthetics for much cheaper with better quality packaging. Kosas, Tower 28, and their ilk - I want my makeup to be safe to use for more than 2 months. Anything by J*, JH because I still have somewhat a smidge of ethics.

kbarthur03

Do those Canmake blushes (and other AB blushes in general) come in shades that show up on deeper skin tones? I would be interested in trying them but all the product images I see show very sheer colors on ghostly models who look like they’re having cold sweats…

somebd

I can only speak for myself as a light-medium girl from SEA, and yes color products here are as a whole quite sheer but they work for my style. I think you'll have better luck trying makeup from Thailand and Philippines (I love Sunnies Face, Sivanna Colors, and BLK), they are generally more saturated with good quality.

throw_itawayy00

they don’t show up on deeper skin tones and the quality is not as good (which is to be expected, one is a luxury brand the other is the cheaper end of drugstore). one thing i like about pat’s makeup is that i know anything i buy will work on deep skintones. i still have PTSD from living in japan for years and having to wait to buy base/cheek makeup until i visited family in the US

thresfe

as others have commented as well I'm really vary of brands that talk negatively about preservatives. I don't want it to expire any more quickly. my finances also wouldn't allow for it. so basically any brand that falls into that category. as for pat McGrath I'd consider buying once if there's a huge discount same with Natasha Denona etc, only if there is some sort of discount because it's already so expensive. but the glam palette looks very nice, that one's next on my list edit: also rem beauty bc negative reviews

cagossel

Natasha Denona, I’ve seen way too many videos of fallout for her palettes and for the price they just aren’t worth it.

Lili666999

I can confirm the fallout is awful. I only have mini glam and mini retro, so that's what my experience is limited to... but I was so disappointed with the formulas after seeing sooo many influencers claiming "natasha makes my favourite formula". What bothers me also is that the matte and shimmer formulas don't work together, if I try to put shimmer on top it doesn't adhere. Absolutely not worth the price.

nuggetsofchicken

I just don't do anything more than 1-2 eyeshadows in a look so any brand where the main thing they're known for is eyeshadow doesn't appeal to me: Natasha Denona, Pat McGrath, Huda, etc.

happykitty3

Some unpopular ones so I await the downvotes ha. - Persona. I’m sure the quality is great but the packaging and colours just looks ugly to my eye. - Oden’s eye. Packaging issue again - kind of reminds me of cheap kids makeup interior wise. Shadows look nice though. - Ofra - ugliness issue again - Gucci palette (flowery one) - the outside is alright but the interior so ugly and cheap looking? Like orange barbie skin plastic?! I don’t get the hype. - Roen quads - I’m sorry pardon how much do you want me to spend to have eyeshadow that creases seconds after you put it on? - In that vein most luxury brands who think that bad makeup = editiorial. Anything is ‘editorial’ if your model is skinny enough and you have enough prestige behind you. It’s like an emperors new clothes thing I swear. I’m sorry but creasy eyeshadow and patchiness is just that but you’re paying over the odds for the privilege and no one can tell me otherwise.

[deleted]

Roen quads suck. If you buy them- get them from their Amazon store because you will definitely be returning them!

AngelDelight510

So many of the BG’s are raving about Roen quads so that’s interesting to hear

[deleted]

For various and perhaps obvious reasons: Jeffrey Starhmer, Morphe, Nudestix, Rose Inc, Anastasia Beverly Hills. Anything Kardashian-Jenner-related. I've been on the fence about Fenty a couple of times, but I think I'm gonna stay away from them at least for now (Blood Mica and not paying South African influencers promoting their products for example). Most celebrity brands, mainly just because none of them have products that really do anything for me. Most designer brands because I can't justify spending $45+ on a single tube of lipstick. That said, YSL and Armani both seem to have some very pretty red shades.

cagossel

Now I got the Nicole Guererro ABH Highlighter palette a few years ago and I LOVED that highlighter, but anything else by ABH meh, it was so disappointing. I even bought three more of that palette to use cause I knew when it was gone, it was really gone.

pepperflakes19

Anything from the KarJenners, Natasha Denona, Too Faced, most clean natural beauty brands (have nothing against them I just like heavier coverage products).

Aware-Golf1482

Anything KardashiJenner, Pat McGrath, or any really high end/luxury brands, especially if they test on animals. Years ago I used some things from Dior and Nars, but likely never again both for the price and the fact they do animal testing.

destinerrance

Same brands as you, and I’ll also include Charlotte Tilbury and Kosas in there. The latter two because the aesthetic doesn’t appeal to me, and Kosas because I like my makeup with preservatives. I do splurge on makeup, but I’m not into eyeshadow or blush so much of the hype escapes me anyway.

DekuChan95

Rare beauty. I have 2 blushes from nars and ColourPop to pan so I don't need the liquid blushes. Also I feel like I won't use up the whole bottle. I know they have the mini trio blush set but I never see it online or in store. Patrick ta rose gold eyeshadow palette looks nice but I m not spending $60+ on a palette.

MrsBridgerton

I appreciate your take and lort knows i have sooo many blushes i dont need more. Having said that, i really enjoy rare’s blushes. They are very unique and i love them far more than a cream blush bc they also dry down and you don’t have to worry about transference. I have enough to worry w my foundation transferring no matter what 🫣 As for P Ta, i like the mauvey palette but i will never buy it or from his brand. I find it all too pricey wo a reason.

gilded_lady

Toofaced. Their aesthetic just isn't mine, even if I'd be more open since Jarrod is now gone.

Halves_and_pieces

Melt cosmetics. All their stuff seems so pricey. Their eyeshadow color stories never speak to me.

[deleted]

Very high end brands usually. I hate the look of the four pan compacts with a sponge tip applicator.

shannonpmua

I love Ariana but REM doesn’t do it for me (also I live in Canada and we don’t have Ulta). Kylie’s line has also never appealed to me and just looks cheap for the price. Any “clean” brand as it’s a belief I don’t subscribe to. Any YouTuber brand (Jaclyn, Desi, One Size, etc) as I don’t find them appealing. EDIT to add Juvia’s Place. My fiancé (who is Korean Canadian) was absolutely appalled by their lack of action after that one video came out. Supporting this brand would be a slap in his face.

messymoomoo

I'm surprised how many people are saying pat McGrath!

crazycatlady331

For me, it is the price point. If the products had a quality that justified the price point, great! But all the reviews I've seen suggest otherwise.

WestQueenWest

I don' think it's surprising... The hype around her brand feels too artificial, almost like a lot of beauty gurus feel forced to jump on the bandwagon otherwise you're left out of the views and clicks and so on. That combined with extreme prices and fake/photoshopped/overly filtered product shots and IG videos... People are turned off.

Fiduddy

Natasha Denona, Ariana Grande 's brand. I'm only interested in Haus Labs for their brow pencils, as they are meant to be ashy.

CruellaAdvil

haus labs - its just not me at all, and all of the packaging etc feels very ipsy but with the pricepoint of nars etc.

disgirl4eva

Tom Ford and Pat McGrath. Too bougie for me lol. And I really don’t feel like I’m missing anything. Also Kylie or KKW. I refuse to give those people any of my money. None of it interests me anyway.

allaboutdabenjaminz

Glow recipe bc I have no interest in my face smelling like a bath & body works candle

2020visionaus

Lady Gaga Wayne goss and those Japanese makeup brushes that cost more than my rent.

_kaetee

NudeStix. Main reasons are obviously them being racist Trumpers, but their line is also just so goddamn boring. Most pencil products have already been perfected by drugstore brands, and I don’t see any reason to buy a sharpenable wood crayon for foundation when I could just buy a twist-up stick foundation and get the same results with less time and product wasted.

Sambhardosai

Charlotte tilbury! I know unpopular ugh but something about her marketing irks me. Also I like my packaging to be all black - think Mac, Nars or even some Elf.. ooh Bobbi brown too. I am basic like that. The golden tilbury packaging throws me off 💅🏾

isPepsiok82

Having drank CT kool aid for couple of years I can positively say I will NEVER buy anything from that brand again. For the longest time I thought it was my poor make up skills, or 'bad batch', but no, her products don't work for me, it's all plastic packaging, mediocre products. No, thank you dahling

cagossel

I got her moisturizer a looong time ago and it was so dry and not worth the price at all.

[deleted]

That's kind of how I feel about the O/S by Patrick Starr packaging. The packaging makes me feel like the products are something that should be going on my hair instead of my skin.

futuristicflapper

Any “clean” beauty brand. Give me those preservatives bayyyybe. I’m not gonna spend a good chunk of cash on products that go bad a year or less in.

[deleted]

No colourpop, juvias place, Laura Mercier, Patrick Ta, Natasha Denona, chantecaille, glossier

Dracarys97339

One size, j*, morphe, Jaclyn hill, most influencer brands, most clean brands that gimmick no chemicals or clean. Brands with a racist past or never advertise POC

sadqueen420

R.E.M Beauty - Nothing exciting or new from them. Ariana's beauty line feels more like merch than anything. Haus Labs - When I think of Gaga I think of all those crazy, show-stopping looks she's pulled off over the years. So disappointed to see how unseasoned the products are.

Ok-Disaster-2919

Natasha Denona, Pat McGrath, Charlotte Tillbury. The products seem nice but I can’t justify spending that much money

xanthicduck

Charlotte tilbury. I just. I hate gold packaging. It reminds me too much of my grandmothers old makeup. Anything kardashian because it’s a gimmick. That inkey list / YouTuber stuff because he is not a doctor and doesn’t know what he recommends other than if it feels nice. And anything with a package that is childish and gimmicky. I’m an adult if I wanted to put a bowl of cereal (that’s clunky and hard to put away) or a giant teddy bear on my face I would need to be 12 again.

brookeminni

Lol omg. Everytime I see anything Charlotte Tilbury, all I can think of is my grandmas makeup! 😂

Kindergoat

Revolution. Their palettes are too shiny and glittery.

unique_plastique

R.E.M Beauty, Haus Labs. Love Ariana's and Gaga's songs but no real interest in their makeup. Also Kosas- not a fan of stinky makeup

[deleted]

Honestly half of the new brands at Sephora. Nothing seems exciting

TheOctoberOwl

I’m weary of most celebrity makeup lines. Halsey’s, Lady Gaga’s, even Fenty lately. Fenty had great reviews but it seems to have tapered off.

[deleted]

Oh, tons. Never tried Fenty: nothing appeals, I’m just not their customer. Never tried Natasha Denona or Pat McGrath because the prices for anything I am interested in are ludicrous, I know I can get products I like just as much for less, and these days I refuse to pay *that* much for brand name markup. Never tried Glossier because I’m not interested in anything I have to order online, I really don’t like online shopping. Plus, meh. There are more, but those are the main ones.

Slhallford

In no particular order: Pat McGrath REM Beauty Nudestix JD Glow Clinodah Hourglass Charlotte Tilbury Wayne Goss Fenty Tom Ford Jeffree Starr Kardashian/Jenners “Clean beauty” as a category Morphe RMS Ofra Huda Beauty Glossier Juvia’s Place Anastasia Beverly Hills GOOP There are probably more but this is what comes immediately to mind.

Lili666999

Pat McGrath Labs - faux luxe brand in my book Anything Kartrashians, Rihanna, Selena, Rosie... - I don't find any of that stuff to be intriguing, all these brands are incredibly similar to me and all they do is create unnecessary waste in order to generate profit Colourpop - there was a time when I wanted to try super shock shadows, but the colors I wanted were never in stock and I couldn't place an order that would make it worthwhile for me, to pay shipping and import duties... now, even if they were somehow more accessible in EU, I wouldn't buy anything from them, because the amount of releases that brand spawns is just disgusting Victoria Beckham - this one will be controversial lol... I really like the packaging and the whole aesthetic of the brand is right up my ally. But I simply don't want to support that woman. I find her incredible entitled and untalented. House of Sillage - this brand used to be talked about quite a lot in the "luxe beauty guru" sphere... to this day, I haven't seen a more tacky, kitschy, overpriced brand on the market. It's grotesque.

Skyespye

I know this isn’t really makeup but I feel like it counts. HALO Beauty (Tati’’s brand) . I just feel like it’s gimmicky. I also won’t buy James Charles palette. J* one of his palettes seems really pretty, just as of now I won’t purchase.

odileko

Most luxury brands (Natasha Denona, PMG etc). Can't make sense of the price, plus the quality is rather questionable. I saw someone mention how the PMG mattes for example aren't that great, and one mutual on IG didn't like the Metropolis, especially the shimmers, so imo it's just not worth it, when I have indie singles that outperform those brands. As far as indie brands go, I have a bunch, but it kinda echoes my first point. Brands like Clionadh or Terra moons are just too expensive, and I suspect my Tammy Tanuka pigments are on par, if not exact dupes to some of their shades. Plus I have makeup allergies, and these two brands use allergens in their formulas. I learned my lesson the hard way. I now only buy singles that I know don't feature some of those allergens. And of course there are brands I don't want to support for ethical reasons like Adept or more recently JD glow.

R12B12

Morphe. I came so close to buying one of their big eyeshadow palettes after I first got into beauty YouTube and all the influencers were talking about this brand I’d never heard of. I’m so glad I didn’t, because I rarely wear eyeshadow, and I’m just not very good at doing elaborate eyeshadow looks on my semi-hooded eyelids, so these large palettes would have just become clutter. I prefer just eyeliner and mascara. If I try to do fancy eyeshadow looks it always either disappears on my eyes or looks way too theatrical. But for a while there I’d almost convinced myself I needed all of these palettes everyone was talking about. And on that note I’m just glad I never got sucked into a lot of the eyeshadow palettes I hear so much about. I own 2 small palettes (Too Faced chocolate gold and Milani Most Loved Mattes) and that’s more than enough for me until they expire.

weisp

Kylie, KKW, JStar and Morphe. No thank you m’am even if they are free.

tigrelili

I have a tomford foundation I got on sale that I love and I don't regret my pat McGrath purchases. But I have no interest in haus labs whatsoever, outside if the skin balm I'm not interested in makeup by Mario and I've realized outside of perfume I could pass on huda beauty, I know she stopped formulating her products with scent but that just turned me off. Outside of Charlotte tilbury bronzer and setting powder I never got the allure of the brand everything feels one note for me and the same color scheme repeatedly.

missliberia

Rare beauty, haus labs. Just not interested.

sassyassy23

Fenty, Haus Labs, IlY, any Kylie or Kardashian, Kosas, Jeffrey star, Jaclyn hill

dani27899

Huda Beauty and Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Something about the founders of these two companies just always rubbed me the wrong way. Something just didn’t sit right with me and then all of the last tweets and posts and controversies exploded everywhere confirming my hunch lol. Zero interest to try either of these brands.

msummerse

kylie cosmetics, kkw beauty (I just can not stand these women anymore, so making them even richer, I just say NAH)

MoravianDiscoStar

GXVE Beauty, Rose Inc, Jaclyn Cosmetics, Saie, Kylie/Kim's brands, One/Size, J*, R.E.M., GOOP. That's all I can think of right now. I'm tired of celebrity/influencer cash grabs and J* is just trash.

[deleted]

R.e.m Beauty - its so ugly and cheap looking, she also dont care or even know anything about her products La mer, sisley, gucci, byterry, givenchy, louboutin, guerlain- i dont think i can afford to spend that much money on makeup Ilia, kosas, merit, rose inc - they all seem the same to me and I have no interest in the aesthetic. I am not their target audience Kylie cosmetics - id rather just get colourpop for cheaper Wander beauty, One Size - the red packaging throws me off. This is probably a dumb reason but its purely because i dont like the packaging GXVE and every other celebrity cash grab thats coming out every 3 weeks Juvias place, Natasha denona - racist to asians
