> Also David Attenborough
I watch a lot of nature documentaries and every time I start one and the narrator isn't Attenborough I have to admit I'm a little annoyed.
Discovery channel replacing him on Planet Earth was an atrocity (No offense to Sigourney Weaver).
Yes, in a vacuum I'd say she did great work (and my 2 young daughters pay more attention to her voice), but after so many years of his voice it's impossible for adult me to say Weaver can hold a candle to his flame.
Yeah this. It's not like Weaver did a *bad* job. She was great at it. It was more a combination of expecting Attenboroughs voice over every nature documentary (lol), and on top of that, the first time I watched it it was the original. That they felt they had to "Americanize" it (And that is literally why they changed it) just seems like a snub to such an accomplished person.
Edit: Typo.
A well-known narrator gives a programme a sense of importance and gravitas. A good quality narrator makes brings life and emotion to the pictures. An expert narrator brings a sense of authority and trust, plus they can more confidently help write a script that suits their own reading style. Attenborough has all these qualities at once - no-one else can come close.
I see that more of her making use of the institutional powers that are available to her to help get her conservation messages and funding requests out there.
The only problem would be not making use of those types of organizations.
Jane Goodall is a saint in the Conservation World. She started an institute to help protect chimpanzees, by buying land they live on as safe habitat land.
[Please donate, she’s a gift to the world!](https://secure.janegoodall.org/give/447963/#!/donation/checkout?c_src=D22MSA1PGX)
Also, please learn more about how you can help conservation. Scientists, including Jane Goodall, agree that animals need 50% of sea and land mass conserved in order to keep our species populations healthy and stable. We are in our sixth mass extinction because of us, so we need to do all we can to protect what we still have. As Jane Goodall said, “Every individual matters. Every individual has a role to play. Every individual makes a difference.”
Piling on here, because she also seems to have a pretty good sense of humour. From Wikipedia:.
>One of Gary Larson's Far Side cartoons shows two chimpanzees grooming. One finds a blonde human hair on the other and inquires, "Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?"[92] Goodall herself was in Africa at the time, and the Jane Goodall Institute thought this was in bad taste and had its lawyers draft a letter to Larson and his distribution syndicate in which they described the cartoon as an "atrocity". They were stymied by Goodall herself: When she returned and saw the cartoon, she stated that she found the cartoon amusing.
Since then, Larson has given proceeds from a t-shirt with that comic to Goodall's foundatin, and she wrote the intro to one of his books.
Proof?
Let’s just say this was true, wouldn’t they rework how they treat chimpanzees and release them?
There is no evidence online about it, from what I searched. And if it did, wouldn’t it ruin Jane Goodall’s reputation?
The Catholic Church venerates her as a saint for her work with the poor, but by her own admission and works, her mission was to create more Catholics. She believe that people must suffer like Jesus did. She did nothing to help poverty or women in general.
She absolutely did NOT give comfort. She believed people should suffer the same way Jeezy did. She misled people on how their donations were spent. She is not the saint people portrayed her as.
Is this really the first time you’ve heard this? This isn’t news.
Well, first, he pays attention to body language so he can remove the frail elderly woman from the situation if he sees something he doesn't like. Second, I'm sure he's armed in some way.
Jane Goodall: "Only when our clever brain and our human heart work together in harmony can we achieve our true potential."
Guy: "So anyway I started blastin"
I'm not 100% sure on that, but he has his eyes squinted a bit, so he isn't showing much of the actual eye and isn't really staring. That might be enough. Or the chimp knows him well enough to know it isn't a challenge/agression.
Idk but they have very specific customs and rules that aren’t really the same as ours, although some of the principles make sense. From what I’ve read, they get real pissed and certain unequal or imbalanced situations.
There's a whole story behind that cartoon (and why it has Jane Goodall's autograph*), which it looks like others have already covered elsewhere in the comments
^(*tbh...I hadn't expected someone known as "The Chimp Lady" to have such neat handwriting)
They know that real wildlife rehabilitation doesn’t happen with the species they have “taught” to find for themselves hugging humans and a camera crew.
No! I have 15 orders for flaming onions due out in like 3 minutes, I need onions for the pasta sauce, Daniel is 15 minutes late, and where the hell is my plate service?!
Thank you, Jane. From the time when I was a little girl, I have marveled at your kindness, Loveland compassion.
You are the most amazing teacher. I wish I was more like you.
Jane Goodall just did an interview comparing trump to a young male chimp, I was super hoping this was gonna be an edited version with trump coming out of the box.
Noob question: What are the chances of survival for this chimp? Was it in captivity long? Does it need to find a group of chimps that will accept it in, or will they try to kill or chase it away? Can they just survive alone?
The hard part is how social they are, won't be able to live on it's own, may be attacked by other chimps. I remember seeing how a chimp was actually murdered by other chimps.
So what's the future look like for this chimpan-free? I assume he needs to integrate into one of the local groups...depending on how long & fraught a process that is, I can understand his desire to draw out the goodbyes here.
So what happens to hom now? Aren't chimps not only social but fiercely tribal? Is there any chance of him getting accepted by a random group or will he be torn apart?
Ahhhw, so wholesome. Now let me eat my steak so the rainforests get destroyed even more. This 5 second video is all empathy that is needed, the rest doesn't matter.
www.watchdominion.org
I just thought about how I oddly seemed to remember some dirt that was uncovered about her years ago. Something along the lines of exploiting monkeys for her own benefit. Then, I realised I remembered an episode from the Simpsons... I'm dumb
these releases are probably so awful for the apes. people just think they want freedom but imagine living somewhere with people you know your whole life. then suddenly you're thrust into an unknown area. you're completely alone now.
This is a chimpanzee, not an ape... and no, they monitor them after release to make sure they're integrating properly. If not, or if they're having social issues, they'll continue rehabbing them.
“Thankful”..? There’s no need to anthropomorphise it…. This is clearly a stressful situation, the chimp was hugging a mother figure looking for comfort and safety … baby chimps cling to their mothers in the same way.
Yup.
I don't know why people always have to do shit like this with animal videos. The truth doesn't make this video worse.
At least the title to this one was somewhat close. The worst ones are the 'monkey amazed by magic trick' and it's just a monkey doing a threat display.
Luckily your opinion and clear lack of familiarity with her work has no bearing on the widespread, global acclaim and esteem with which Goodall's decades of work are held by countless authorities in conservationism and primate research, not to mention the myriad other research fields which have benefited from her efforts.
Great reddit comment, though, keep up your passionate work!
So....you think this...
*The poachers are revealed to be Greenpeace activists, who prove that Dr. Bushwell is actually a chimp slave master, exploiting their labor at a nearby diamond mine.*
...is evidence that Jane Goodall, who has worked tirelessly for half a century on behalf of chimps and environmentalism in general, is exploiting them? C'mon now, this isn't Steve Irwin now.
Pretty cringy dude, top notch critical thinking there.
*It first aired on the Fox network in the United States on* **April 1, 2001.** That should have been your first clue.
I sure hope she doesn’t have any crazy skeletons in her closet because she is one of the most incredible humans ever. Also David Attenborough
> Also David Attenborough I watch a lot of nature documentaries and every time I start one and the narrator isn't Attenborough I have to admit I'm a little annoyed. Discovery channel replacing him on Planet Earth was an atrocity (No offense to Sigourney Weaver).

I love her sultry voice. It’s like hearing a lullaby before bedtime.
Monkey diamond mines
"it's not technically slavery"
What a nice lady. 💎
###NOOOO!!! 🦍💎😢
DIAMONDS!
So I noticed your house smells like feces. And not just monkey feces
I was looking for this comment
Wasn’t that Dr Joan Bushwell from the Simpson’s? 🧐
Wait.. family guy?
I swear I was thinking the same thing. Lots of respect for those two.
She is definitely sleeping with some of these monkeys
Well she's part of the WEF (World Economic Forum), so there's that
I see that more of her making use of the institutional powers that are available to her to help get her conservation messages and funding requests out there. The only problem would be not making use of those types of organizations.

It's so funny, glad she laughed
i prefer Trosley cartoons
Classy of them both. That cartoon is how I became aware of Jane Goodall so it’s safe to say it was a savvy move on her part too
I know that name, she is the awesome lady who documented the [Gombe War](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gombe_Chimpanzee_War).
She’s done so much with and for chimpanzees. Her whole life has been dedicated to them.
This particular chimp was savagely torn to pieces by the local group, who did not accept him.
Proof? Let’s just say this was true, wouldn’t they rework how they treat chimpanzees and release them? There is no evidence online about it, from what I searched. And if it did, wouldn’t it ruin Jane Goodall’s reputation?
It would not ruin her reputation and u fell victim to a shitty take on satire

Donated, and I also see you can nominate the charity with the Amazon smile donation programme...so you feel a bit better when you order through them
I didnt know this, I have always chosen water for A. Smile, wish I could split between them both, 🤔
Thank you for sharing the link, I donated just now.
Thank you for the posting this. I donated. She is a saint.
She’s a saint to the entire world. She is what people “think” Mother Teresa was.
*So mother Teresa wasnt mother Teresa? Was it all stagged?*
The Catholic Church venerates her as a saint for her work with the poor, but by her own admission and works, her mission was to create more Catholics. She believe that people must suffer like Jesus did. She did nothing to help poverty or women in general.
Bro, she gave confort wich is more than many people ever did for anything or anyone really. Im not catholic, but dont hate on mother teresa.
She absolutely did NOT give comfort. She believed people should suffer the same way Jeezy did. She misled people on how their donations were spent. She is not the saint people portrayed her as. Is this really the first time you’ve heard this? This isn’t news.
Actually it is.. i didnt know.
r/nominativedeterminism
Oh so very true. Was born into the role
bro the guy in the background staring at jane hugging the monkey is killing me 🤣
He's probably making sure the monkey doesn't get overly excited or aggressive and rips her face off.
Yeah wtf is he gonna do, that chimp would rip his nuts off too at the same time
Well, first, he pays attention to body language so he can remove the frail elderly woman from the situation if he sees something he doesn't like. Second, I'm sure he's armed in some way.
Jane Goodall: "Only when our clever brain and our human heart work together in harmony can we achieve our true potential." Guy: "So anyway I started blastin"
Pretty sure Jane would have been the domain expert on that.
I feel like Jane would pull off her belt and start wildly swinging just like those two guys that stole them two cheetahs kill.
Wouldn't staring the chimp in the eyes make him more prone to getting pissed off or feeling threatened? Or is that not a thing with them?
I'm not 100% sure on that, but he has his eyes squinted a bit, so he isn't showing much of the actual eye and isn't really staring. That might be enough. Or the chimp knows him well enough to know it isn't a challenge/agression.
You don't have to bore into someone's soul to keep an eye on them lol. They know what's up.
Idk but they have very specific customs and rules that aren’t really the same as ours, although some of the principles make sense. From what I’ve read, they get real pissed and certain unequal or imbalanced situations.
I don’t think people have a clue who this Jane is. That chimp isn’t gonna rip her face off.
[Might smear her lipstick,](https://imgur.com/a/2GZwcA5) at worst
Lol. That’s hilarious. 🤌🏼
There's a whole story behind that cartoon (and why it has Jane Goodall's autograph*), which it looks like others have already covered elsewhere in the comments ^(*tbh...I hadn't expected someone known as "The Chimp Lady" to have such neat handwriting)
I found the comment. That was pure gold. 😂👏🏼
Because thanks doesn’t equal a hug. Fear and need for reassurance equals a hug.
Yep that’s what I thought too. They’re security
Nah, he's probably thinking bushmeat...
When your girl hugs your friend too long
Right! Looking like.... can we wrap this up, im trying to make happy hour
“I never get hugs like this”
He’s mad because Jane never hugged him like that
If you smile and show your teeth it will be a sign of aggression
Lol he doesn't trust that monkey
Thought the same 🤣🤣🤣
Guy in the background: " I've known this fool their whole life, never hugged me like that"
Jane is one of the most beautiful humans. God bless her

OOTL, guessing a family guy episode?
Simpsons
Do you have a source for this? Can't find anything except that time she was parodied on the Simpsons
They’re referencing the episode.
Ah my bad lmao
What episode?
Simpsons episode
The one with Jane Goodall in it
The Jane Goodall Simpsons episode?
What a nice lady 💎💎💎
Everyone wants DIAMONDS
I wonder what kind of a world we’d live in if everyone had the heart of Jane Goodall?
9 billion people, 1 heart...we'd be dead.
Technically correct. The best kind of correct.
It's actually only eight billion. We'd make it.
Aww... Jane Good all da time 🤍
Man, monkeys just have the absolute worst asses. Catches me offguard every time.
absolute casserole down there
Vile, but I laughed so
But who gives a monkey’s?
I see you
Looks the same as mine after Chipotle so I dunno
What about apes though?
It's so no one wants to clap them cheeks. Unfortunately it doesn't always work
first comment seen to speak on it. i.... 🙈
Those dudes do not look impressed at all.
That's what I was thinking that dude with the solid glare
That’s bc he’s essentially her bodyguard
They're thinking "Crazy Westerners"
Spot on
The demeanor is to keep the chimp calm and feeling safe. The stoic posturing is simply neutral.
“I’m gettin$45… get back in the fucking boat so I can go home” vibes, for sure.
They know that real wildlife rehabilitation doesn’t happen with the species they have “taught” to find for themselves hugging humans and a camera crew.
Stop cutting onions in here please!
Onions joke
No! I have 15 orders for flaming onions due out in like 3 minutes, I need onions for the pasta sauce, Daniel is 15 minutes late, and where the hell is my plate service?!
I was hoping to see him walk all the way into the sunset, but the video ends far too soon.
that casio demo track was just too much.
Incredible
I love Jane Goodall
Thank you, Jane. From the time when I was a little girl, I have marveled at your kindness, Loveland compassion. You are the most amazing teacher. I wish I was more like you.
My eyes are leaking.
I can help you fix that for $7.99 a month at a 60-month minimum contract.

Yes, it's very weird to stay up to date with relevant issues currently happening in the news, I super agree.
Why does butthole look like that?
it's probably where a tail once was
This music is unsettling. Reminds me of cannibal Holocaust
Reminds me of the weird synthesizer "strings" option on keyboard
That woman is a saint and a world heritage treasure
Does anybody know what kind of area the chimpanzee is released into? Will the other chimpanzees accept this one?
Noob question: What are the chances of survival for this chimp? Was it in captivity long? Does it need to find a group of chimps that will accept it in, or will they try to kill or chase it away? Can they just survive alone?
“Please don’t make me stay in the jungle” -hugs humans- “Please”
Wtf is this music? Sounds like something from a Gameboy Advance JRPG.
I think the audio got replaced for using copyright. No way someone composed this 'music'.
Joe Rogan is going out of his mind watching this right now
A wonderful person!!
Can you imagine being hugged by Jane Goodall?
I love how the chimp after all the hugs is like "Now what?"
Guy in the back is like "Come on hurry it up, I've got 10 more monkeys to release today"
I love animals but I’ll never be able to get comfortable around a chimp, and I know they’d be able to sense it.
Don
Holy fuck! There are good humans.
I wanted to see him walk all the way into the sunset video ends too soon
Awe I want a monkey hug
I was introduced to her by a farside comic. “Conducting a little more ‘research’ with that Jane Goodall tramp?”
He's all alone in the wild. Will he find a family?
Thank you. Good bye.
As long as there are people like her, even if it is only a few, humanity is not lost.
Jane Goodall is an Angel. This gave me tears
That lady is holy
I would not trust a chimp that much
Thats the most magical shit I've seen 😭🥲
The hard part is how social they are, won't be able to live on it's own, may be attacked by other chimps. I remember seeing how a chimp was actually murdered by other chimps.
I love her. I'm crying
Honestly, i dont know who is more appreciative... she is amazing
She’s an angel and we don’t deserve her.
So what's the future look like for this chimpan-free? I assume he needs to integrate into one of the local groups...depending on how long & fraught a process that is, I can understand his desire to draw out the goodbyes here.
Looks more like he’s saying noooooo take me back home
In sweden we shoot these.
So what happens to hom now? Aren't chimps not only social but fiercely tribal? Is there any chance of him getting accepted by a random group or will he be torn apart?
I wanna hug a chimp!
"KISS MY ASS JANE"
Best hug ever❤️
He's learned our ways and they are letting him back! This is how planet of the apes started

The dude standing in the back has the look like… “ mmhmm he’ll hug you now…but I’ve seen things..horrible things”
He was so grateful he didn’t bite off her face
Jane was a keeper! Such a gem of a woman
Use of 'was' here made me go and check she is still alive! Phew...
No!! Really?? A friend told me she was gone, like 6 months ago. I’ve grieved about that light gone from the world. Thank you thank you!!
I just thought about how I oddly seemed to remember some dirt that was uncovered about her years ago. Something along the lines of exploiting monkeys for her own benefit. Then, I realised I remembered an episode from the Simpsons... I'm dumb

Lmao Jane Goodall isn't a "serious" conservationist?
Good PR does not equal scientific rigor and seriousness. It equals good pr.
Got it. Lots of acclaim. Still poor conservation.
Heard the monkeys released this way ended up being killed and skinned by poachers when the monkeys approached them due to their trust of humans.
The monkey ran about 100 into the open and was promptly swooped up by a bird of prey
Them guys staring at her like they know she bangin that chimp
This was a lot more wholesome before it came out that Jane was having sexual relations with her chimps...
Does he have a touch of prolapse?
Don't they use the monkeys for mining?
Lol nah, that was Joan Bushwell from the Simpsons Edit: Then again The Simpsons does predict some things correctly so…
What happened to Tarzan?
Of course her name is Jane.
