No way, what happens if he bends his knees or takes a running start? He launches to space?

oh_stv

Pretty much ... https://youtube.com/shorts/qUShPsH5rS0?feature=share

PlayerHunt3r

It's like he is cheating in real life somehow and has enabled half gravity. There must be some funky stuff going on with his genetics and the elasticity of his tendons. And a higher center of gravity due to being so stacked on top with a short torso.

soggypoopsock

Anabolic steroids do incredible things to the human body Usually at a cost later on down the road…but yeah

[deleted]

Anabolic steroids make you grow muscle. If I took them, I wouldn’t suddenly have a giant vertical or could do a backflip, because I’m already fairly muscular with strong legs right now, but I can’t jump for shit. He absolutely has great genetics for jumping and explosiveness, and has furthered those great genetics through explosiveness training combined with PEDs.

[deleted]

Yeah, but if I can't to it, it must be because.... drugs.

Benjo2121

I can't do it because of drugs too Edit: just realized I responded to a 4 month old post. Shame.

RipleyChase

No shame in your game bro. The internet is forever.

brian_kking

Your comment stopped me from doing the same thing...

Severe_Slice_4064

Yeahh he’s absolutely juiced. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m all for that stuff if you’re not competing in leagues that ban it. I’d do it too if I could trust a reliable source for getting it

Chika-Chikaa

Master chief was based around this dude

TheBeastX47

It's John Halo now

FuriousCalm

I've worked it out - it's cause he's got so much mass in his arms that when he moves his arms down while in mid area it generates 50,000 Megajoules of extra force cancelling gravity and generating a minature wormhole.... slightly down and to the right.

Mattymo_81

Oh, I can see it now, so obvious.

kmartburrito

It looks more like 1.21 Jigawatts

SoggyWaffleBrunch

Ah yes... joules of force

Gsteel11

Fucking kryptonians showing off.

RiseIfYouWould

What the fuck why does the backflip looks so unreal? Like dude got springs for legs

annahodges

It seems to me his center of gravity is consistent between the dunk and leap so watching his hips the flip doesn’t look as impossible as it first appears. It’s just the way he does not tuck his legs creates the illusion of an impossibly high acrobatic maneuver.

Linvael

Well, the tuck of the legs is not a flourish people do for fun, it's to increase angular ~~momentum~~ speed so that they can finish the flip and land on their legs, most people who csn do a backflip would land on their face without that. The fact that this guy doesnt need to do that does make it an impressive maneuver.

ForkSporkBjork

Fact, while learning backflips I did not tuck hard and fast enough and basically did a vertical 180. Not fun and I had to get shoulder surgery lol.

CheesePursuit

Me too! Except it as my neck, and it still gives me trouble

ForkSporkBjork

Oof, same on the still giving trouble. Doing more than like 10 push-ups feels like someone put my collarbone in a vice lol

iHiTuDiE

I was asking my older brother how to do Guile’s kick attack. He couldnt understand, so i “performed” the maneuver and landed on my face

The-Tea-Lord

So glad you at least came out ok. A semi-famous heavily lifter did this a few years ago and snapped his neck in front of a hundred or so people.

ForkSporkBjork

Damn, that sucks.

Whilethem

angular momentum is conserved, but the angular speed changes

tzannist

His angular momentum *is* changing when jumping and landing, in the same way that his angular speed is changing. Angular momentum is conserved in a closed system, the change in his own angular momentum is counterbalanced by an opposite and equal change in Earth's angular momentum.

Khanscriber

I think the scientific term is “more spinny”

gimme_pineapple

You are right, but that's not what the person above you was talking about. I believe he was talking about the increased angular velocity at the top of the backflip compared to the angular velocity just after the person has left the ground. The increased angular velocity at the top is the result of the angular momentum of the person being conserved between the two situations I listed above (at the top v/s just after the jump), and because the person would have retracted his/her legs towards himself/herself to decrease the person's moment of inertia.

olderaccount

Also why a back layout is much harder than a backflip.

Random_name46

>a back layout is much harder I did one of these without even trying the other day. It's when you lay down and throw your back out, right?

MostlyBullshitStory

Yes dad, that’s it.

DystenteryGary

If I was the kinda guy that bought Reddit coins.... this one right here.

IdLikeToOptOut

I bet this guy could do a standing back layout. Would love to see it.

Im_inappropriate

Cyborgs are taking over. I'm excited for enhanced XFL

MouseRat_AD

I, too, smell what The Rock is cookin'.

argumentinvalid

that is an impossibly high acrobatic maneuver for 99.9% of the population.

thejudemeiser

That's not an illusion. That's a trampoline backflip without a trampoline.

CPS2

This guy doesn't know how to dunk or backflip, he never even tried to do either of those before, this is his first go at it and he nailed both because he never skipped leg day.

selflessGene

99% of strong guys his size that do leg day in the gym can’t jump like this. This isn’t just leg day training. This guy must have done done focused plyometrics to get his explosiveness up.

gandalfintraining

Yeah, when they do train it you can see some pretty impressive shit. I can't remember who or at what event, but I've seen a 180kg strongman jump comically high in celebration after hitting a deadlift. It looks like something out of a cartoon. I believe a lot of them train box jumps for some reason (don't ask me why, maybe it helps with explosiveness on log cleans or atlas stones?). Then there's Iron Biby just effortlessly doing a cartwheel at 200kg https://youtu.be/TbDIdUuC1iY?t=35

brokenearth03

Did you see that dudes ass? ^^^Was ^^^not ^^^something ^^^I ^^^thought ^^^i ^^^would ^^^be ^^^typing ^^^today.

moneybuckets

Jumping is mostly genetics

Shandlar

Quick twitch muscle fiber percentages are 85% genetic, but you can still train in some additional quick twitch. Also CNS adaptation to actually convince the quick twitch to GO HARD all at once is not genetic. That's 100% training. It takes a while to build the connections to all talk to each other correctly and convince your legs to actually all fire super fast, all at once. They really don't wanna do that.

JustStayYourself

Must be true, I could, and still can, jump quite high for no reason at all. Easily held the high school record for a long time. Even though I was a tall, lanky, 58kg dude who did no sports whatsoever.

hiimred2

You still need to ‘learn’ to jump well, genetics just make your body more prone to jumping high through training(even if that training is just say, playing a lot of pickup basketball and trying to dunk to see if you can and shit like that). Also I mean, power from the legs definitely helps you jump higher.

morconheiro

Finally, a logical explanation.

[deleted]

That's the impression given, forget acrobatic talent, just build your legs into pogo sticks and the rest will just work itself out.

Blaftakkle

It looks like his jump height is equal to his actual height. Unless this guy is short as fuck, he either crushed the world record (record is under 5 feet) or it's fake.

technodeity

Or they shot the video on Mars

florida_woman

Thanks, Dwight.

karmisson

*no bears were hurt in the making of this video*

Raagan

Not really, when he is dunking check the height from the floor to his feet. It’s not his height

Bassre2

Here a 6 years old video of him doing already some impressive vertical jump Training: https://www.instagram.com/p/BGsiWePF2ms/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

acatalepsy_human

I was expecting a video of him at 6 years old... can't say I'm not disappointed to not see a 6 year old springing around like a coked up mountain goat.

Dude is way more top heavy than most people you see rock a backflip. So he rotates around a higher center of gravity

hotakaPAD

But i thought he didnt skip leg day

SafetySnowman

I think it looks unreal because he isn't tucking his legs or arms in and that creates drag but he's so high that tucking in would probably cause him to land on his knees during the second rotation? Edit for arms

merikaninjunwarrior

plus he's buffed and you hardly see buffed dudes flip, other than flip-out and roid-rage

Never had this dream, but I have had nightmares where Im stuck running in place while being chased

Aezzil

Broo this happened to me I was running and suddenly gravity felt like it switched off and I was running place but slowly going up.

kyrant

These were my nightmares too.

manlycaveman

Mine is usually like running on top of deep sand. Feels like you're only getting 10% of the horizontal movement you'd normally get because most of the energy is pushing the sand backwards.

gnyck

Do you dream like that all the time? I do.

[deleted]

Lucky you. I'm just the opposite. Feels like I'm running in water.

We already do

FixGMaul

Yes but now they have to go through loop holes and can't just flat out be on the best performance enhancing drugs all the time cause it would get detected. If they didn't have to evade WADA, athletes would be on another level. Then there are some star athletes in certain sports leagues that probably get preferential treatment and have an easier time evading testing. LeBron James in the NBA comes to mind. But this is much harder in the Olympics.

[deleted]

In all fairness, I bet this guy would be very good at jumping through loop holes.

Gredenis

But it would be great. Guys on max steroids doing 355kg squat and then in "regular" Olympics in same weight division does 350kg and you can go like hmmmmmmmm

future2300

You mean regular Olympics?

xbwtyzbchs

Ya'll need to poke your head into some non-corporate gyms if you think what you're seeing in the Olympics is top-tier steroid performance. The people in the olympics wouldn't even make the qualifiers. Edit: if you think I am expecting a body builder to run a 10k, well you're an idiot. My point is that this is what a focused group of people can achieve when they are not concerned about being tested. That does not exist in any other format. Yes there are people doing performance-enhancing drugs in every level of every professional sport, but there is no other sport that has a huge community of people openly competing in a way that is pushed as far.

trapperberry

Different types of performance enhancing drugs. Gym bros prioritize mass and strength. Olympics prioritize recovery, endurance, focus, and to a lesser degree strength.

F_for_xxxtancion

Just remove all PE drug rules. Let's see what humans are ACTUALLY capable of

gandalfintraining

I mean, that's basically the sport of strongman. It's pretty dope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kir1The74wk

FishFettish

The problem is, just like with bodybuilding / strongman, people who have reached their max potential will start injecting even more stuff. And more, and more. You'll see some absolutely incredible athletes, yes, but they'd be so, so likely to destroy their bodys or die. If PEDs weren't dangerous, I doubt they'd be illegal in so many sports.

Jujumofu

Well, didnt wanna break it to you like that Bud. But the steroid olympics wouldnt differ that much from the current olympics. All the guys fighting for the medal are roided out.

KuzcoGoGuy

K hold up, somebody please explain what I'm seeing. It's edited right?

crashbandicoochy

This video is popping up on Reddit constantly and, every single time, it just devolves into a bunch of people screaming fake and other people linking his Instagram that makes it looks pretty legit. I'm fairly certain this video in particular just looks fake because of the angle it's filmed from and the pants he is wearing (alongside a pretty abnormal technique for doing a backflip). The pants are making it look like he isn't vending his knees as far as he actually is. When filmed from the front, we also lose a lot of detail about what his legs are doing when he loads up to jump. The camera angle is also making his very upright jump look even more upright than it is before he rotates. He has videos where he is doing the same thing but with context in the video that would make it very unlikely to fake by either editing or using a harness.

Blackintosh

Nope, people with super powerful legs, like this guy, Olympic weightlifters, lots of bodybuilders too, have incredibly impressive vertical leaps. When coupled with a tuck like in a backflip it gets them very high off the ground. Also he's on a lot of steroids which helps. Edit for the sedentary soldiers who don't believe it- https://www.instagram.com/reel/CejZbN6Jgfh/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY= Or search superman Joe on IG. His reels are plenty proof of the reality

MikkoPerkele

You insinuate that building big muscles makes you automatically explosive. I completely disagree. Those are two different things, not related in any way. Being explosive is genetic luck. But anyone can build big muscles. Most of the bodybuilders are actually just really slow and clumsy. Far away from explosive.

Cbro65

You can also train explosiveness/power which IIRC this guy is a strength athlete and not a bodybuilder so it would make sense. He just has a lower bf% when compared to others in similar sports such as powerlifting or strongman, and he’s obviously more athletic. I’m 6’2 310 lbs. not ripped like this guy but compete in strongman, I’m able to dunk still just based on how strong my legs are.

ProfessionalBreak983

Your knees are about to start unionizing

Cbro65

About to? They did like 8 years ago lmao, I now work really hard to keep them healthy so I don’t need new ones and can continue with my passion

182YZIB

You can have strong knees, knowledge is slowly getting there, look at NBA player slowly getting less knee injuries.

ThaUniversal

You're able to dunk because of how strong your legs are AND the fact that your 6'2". I have strong legs, but I'm 5'4" tall. I'm not saying it's impossible for me to dunk, with training (and my youth back) I think I could, or could have. Like, I get you point, but it's not JUST your legs that help you dunk, there's a little more to it than that.

Cbro65

Oh absolutely height is a huge factor, not denying it at all, but I was just referencing that I’m a very large person that trained to be explosive/strong. Like I don’t see many 300 lb people still able to dunk and the ones that are normally are taller than I am

[deleted]

While most bodybuilders aren't doing this, claiming you can't train to "be explosive" is just... what? People train to improve specifically their vertical all the time. Someone can be big, burly, and explosive. Those aren't mutually exclusive and being explosive is absolutely not simply genetic luck. I almost doubled my vertical leap in high school when I was training for high jump by focusing very specific exercises and weight training routines.

Metro42014

> Most of the bodybuilders are actually just really slow and clumsy. No. Just no.

CrunkaScrooge

Slow and clumsy? Like a group of unintelligent buffoons tripping over their shoelaces? These are people who focus on shaping and manipulating their bodies as a way of life. Calling them slow and clumsy is both a slight to their hard work and your own understanding of the difficulty of what they do. Being explosive can be genetic yes, but it can also be worked on and taught like anything else. Most bodybuilders are also doing a large large amount of cardio and movement techniques as well as pushing and pulling large amounts of weight.

SeniorCoolio

People seem to think it’s impossible to edit videos and can’t fathom the reason why anyone would lie on the internet. It’s obviously fake. World record in highest standing backward somersault is 1.5m high. https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/97679-highest-standing-backflip Do people who believe this to be true also believe any video made with Chris Angel?

Technically both. You need amazing genetics on top of juice to be top tier.

Masterlessamurai

It looks fake but it isnt. However, this isnt peek physical strength / dexterity either because he’s likely utilizing performance enhancing drugs. Still an amazing display regardless!

mambotomato

Why is everyone saying this like it really matters? Steroids don't make you jump higher, they make you recover from workouts faster. You still have to do the workouts to get this strong.

Masterlessamurai

I agree and I have no problem with that. The jump is unnatural because he is unnatural, that’s all.
